Users w/least privileges in Acrobat Standard can't create PDF files. Could this be security setting?

Trying to find out where Acrobat stores its temp files while creating/printing a new PDF and if it is possible to tell the program to use another location.  My guess, and I could definitely be wrong, is that our Sys Admins have locked users from writing into this temp folder.  Additionally security audit logs are filled quickly when users attempt to cut and paste from Acrobat.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, you should ask your sys admin to not lock this folder. This
can cause a lot of problems with many applications.
The temp folder used by Acrobat is actually not the Windows temp folder,
though, but an internal one, which can be found by executing this code in
the JS console in Acrobat:
app.getPath("user", "temp")
In my case (Acrobat XI Pro on Windows 7), it is:
/C/Users//AppData/Local/Temp/Adobe/Acrobat/11.0
It is possible, though, that applications like Distiller still use the
Windows temp folder for some other tasks.

If the repair does not do the job, then try a different job settings in the printing process. The error you are getting comes from the Distiller step of the PDF creation. You can go in steps if you wish by trying to print to file. Then opening that file in Distiller to see that happens.

  • I can't create PDF files from DWF files

I'm looking for a solution for creating PDF files from DWF files. When I attempt to create a DWF file to PDF, the file has problems being created. Does anyone have a solution to this?

We are trying to print to pdf format from a dwf (Autodesk Design Review) drawing file.  DWF is autodesk’s version of PDF.  In autocad, you can print to either dwf or pdf.  However, some of the fonts within autocad are not recognized by adobe so the fonts often don’t print properly.  Thus, we print to dwf first, then print again to pdf.
We operate 2 basically identical computers; the one computer is able to print from dwf to pdf and the other is not.   When I say not able, only part of the drawing actually prints; like it is not able to process the data.  The computer that cannot print from dwf to pdf, can actually print directly to pdf from Autocad.    It just cannot print from dwf to pdf.
Both computers are running Windows 7, Autocad Architecture 2015, and Adobe acrobat X.
Let me know if this is enough information.

  • Can't create PDF file from Browser Window

Hi, I used to use Acrobat extensively (but not recently) to create PDF files from various websites. Today when I tried to do it from IE and from Chrome I found out that the ability to do that is no longer there.
I cannot figure out why it disappeared nor how to fix the problem.
Does anyone have any insight to this?
    I'm using Arobat X, version 10.1.5.
    Karen

I am clueless as to where to start. Adobe PDF and Adope PDF Conversion Tool Bar are both enabled, but they do not appear. I can, however, print to PDF (thanks for the head's up). My browser of choice is IE9 ... I also have Chrome installed and I can print to PDF from it, too, but do not see any PDF extensions (if that is what Chrome calls them).
Given that I probably have upgraded IE someplace along the line (it just does it), is there a way to make that installed tool bar appear that you know of?
Again, thanks for the PDF printer tip!

  • Acrobat 11 doesn't create pdf. files from doc. files

I tried to create a pdf. file from a doc. file (Office 2003). Acrobat 11 instead opens a warning message with the following contents (translated from German):
A high security level has been chosen. Start the application that created the document, activate the dialogue "safety warning", choose "always trust macros from this resource, activate ... from Adobe Systems Inc. (the message aborts there).
I selected "Extras/Macro/Safety/Safety level" , there I selected "low". The above mentioned message still comes up.
What do you suggest to do in order to finally create pdf. files from doc. files?
Additional information: Creating pdf. files from xls. files (Excel), txt. files (Editor) and saving a webpage as a pdf. file all work fine.
    Thanks for your input!

Although Office 2003 is old compared to Acrobat XI, according to Compatible web browsers and PDFMaker applications it should work, though support has passed end of life.
So my first test (if it were me) would be to see if PDFMaker works if run in the simplest way (the only way I ever use it, this right click conversion stuff isn't in my worldview). That is, does the Acrobat menu appear in Word and does it work? If it does not work, no other method based on it can work.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 can't make pdf files in 2003 Word

    Hello, Can you help me?
I purchased Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro four years ago when I went onto Windows 7 as I needed the 64 bit version. Prior to this I had Adobe Acrobat 7.
Recently I have been unable to make PDF files in Word although it is working in all the other Word applications and through the HP scanner.
It also won’t make PDF files through the Adobe programme and comes up with the message “Missing PDF files”and the repair command fails to save the problem.
I am using Word 2003 but prior to now the programme has worked without a problem.
Can you tell me how to solve the problem as I need the facility as I manage numerous websites for different charities.
My serial number is 1118-1780-5717-0649-5947-1289 and I am reluctant to unload the programme incase I can’t reload it.
I have tried to load Acrobat 7 onto my laptop which still has Windows Vista on it.  The serial number for this is 1016-1284-2194-6099-0208-1387 but it refuses to activate this.  Can you advise me on this ?
    I am desperate..
    Many thanks, Sheila

  • I can't create pdf files from word 2003 files in acrobat 9 pro any more

Until recently, i was able to make pdf files from word 2003 documents using the "create pdf from file" in acrobat 9 pro. Combining several word documents into 1 pdf was also a piece of cake.
Now, this doesn't work any longer. If i want to select the files, office 2003 files are no longer listed in the supported file formats.
    See the picture below

Try running a Repair Installation on Acrobat (via the Help menu).

  • Acrobat Reader can't open PDF file downloaded from the internet

I downloaded the following pdf file from the internet and saved it to the desktop. When I tried to open the file I got a message saying Acrobat couldn't open it. I do not have trouble opening other PDF files. There is something about opening certain PDF files from the internet that is causing this. Is there a setting in the PDF preferences that is causing this or some security setting.
    http://www.porteverglades.net/include/content/docs/media/Port-map-2009.pdf

It seems that Safari is unable to export the document as a PDF because the exported file was zero bytes. That's why I couldn't open it. I tried Firefox and did a File>Save. It saved the file as a PDF which I was able to open. So proglem solved.

  • Can't create pdf files

I puchased a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit preinstalled.  I installed by Acrobat 8.0 Standard program and performed all of the updates for windows and acrobat and everything worked fine.  I could create pdfs from both the adobe pdf printer and the links in Office 2007 and IE8.  3 months later I had to perform a factory restore on the computer due to an unrelated problem.  When I reinstalled Acrobat 8, I lost all the create pdf functionality.  When I print to the pdf printer, it shows it in the queue and then it disappears without creating anything.  When I use the Office 2007 create links, it hangs on "creating pdf".  When I click on the links in IE8 nothing happens.  Any help would be appreciated.

If you start Distiller, then you have to open a file to process. That would be the file you created with the print-to-file. The file may have a prn extension if you did not change it to PS, but it will be a PS file as long as you used the Adobe PDF printer. You can also look at the PS file in a text editor to see what is there and be sure you do not have an Empty job. When you come back, indicate the exact steps you take to get to where you have the broken problem with Distiller.

  • Can't create pdf files v10.0

I have computer with Windows 7 64-bit installed.  I was using adobe 9.X and was able to create pdf from a variety of sources.
I installed by Acrobat 10.0 Pro and performed all of the updates for windows, etc.  I can create pdfs from Office 2010 and some other applications.
When I print from an internally developed application to the pdf printer, it shows it in the queue and then it disappears without creating anything.
Before the upgrade to 10.0 the following would happen.
    a) print preview dialog would show up
    b) Click the print button and a dialog would appear and ask for the file name.
    c) The document would be generated.
    Now,
    a) print preview dialog would show up
    b) The dialog asking for a file name does NOT appear.
    c) The document appears in the print queue for a second, without a filename and then disappears.  Nothing is created.
    Work around,
    a) print preview dialog would show up
    b) select "print to file" to create a prn file.
    c) prn file is created
    d) right click on prn file and select "convert to adobe pdf"
    e) pdf file is created.
The pdf file has images, but I do not see any reason for the change in behavior.
Again everything work fine with adobe 9.X.   I have changed numerous setting without any solutions to date.
Any help would be appreciated to avoid the work around.
    Stephen

Did you ever find a solution to your problem?  We have an old Power Builder app that is experiencing the exact same behavior.

    Hi!
Try using apache fop. If you are familiar with xml and xslt it is fairly easy to write some database records into a table in an pdf file. Have a look at http://xml.apache.org/fop/index.html
