Using 25fps with 30fps clips together?

A student from Poland shot some video using 25fps we finished the shoot with another camera at 30fps.
Her video looks quite shabbly next to the material shot at 30fps. Even when I changed the project settings to 25fps.
Another issue is that she downloaded her clips to Movie Maker and deleted the orig footage. She brought them to my Mac in MTS format via jump drive. I have converted to MP4 and Mov using 3 different conversion porgrams and the result is always the same - they are not as clear and crisp as the footage shot with my Canon Vixa HD.  I should say hers is also an HD camera.
Is there anytging we can do to make this work out??
Thanks

Hi
Have no hands on experience - but closely related.
I record in interlaced SD-Video Quality (PAL 25fps) and need to do DVDs for USA = NTSC (29.97 fps)
I use JES_Deinterlacer (free from Internet) to do the conversion to NTSC. This it does very good - compared to putting one fps into a project containing the other - in iMovie and so FinalCut. So by using this way to do the conversion - the final quality is as good as I can do it.
alt. I thing Compressor™ (from Apple) also can do this very good - but at a cost - and there are Professional products that also can do this - to an astronomical cost (but I can hardly see the difference)

  • Using MouseEvent with Movie Clips

Hopefully i have a real easy question. I have a movie clip
that i saved in a library. I gave the movie clip an instance name
so I can instantiate the movie in my document class. The movie clip
    itself has 3 layers.
So i instantiate the movie clip, add a mouseevent to the
movie clip instance and then add it to my stage(addchild()). My
problem is that the MouseEvent.target could be any of the 3 layers
of my movie clip, I was expecting the MouseEvent.target would be
the entire movie clip. So when i go to change the x, y position of
the MouseEvent.target, only the 1 layer moves and my movieclip
    becomes disjoint.
Hopefully someone can give me an easy way to test to see
which layer is returned by the MouseEvent and then I can move the
entire movie clip instead of just the one layer.
    Thanks in advance.

NedWebs, you hit it on the head. My movie clip is made up of
movie clips(I dont know what the proper terminology of the
movieclip that contains the other movie clips, parent movieclip?).
So is there a way to get back to the parent movieclip when
one of the children movie clips are targeted? In my action script i
only instantiate the parent movieclip, so i assume the children
movie would have to be related to the parent movieclip in some
    fashion.
So when my MouseEvent.Target is one of those child movieclips
I need to somehow reference the parent movieclip and move it..
I dont have the code here with me, but I can post it when i
    get home tonight.
PS. I guess i should have created this topic in the AS 3.0
    forum.

  • How can I use all tracks from multi-channel source audio with Multicam clips?

I cannot figure this out. Working in Premiere I'm prepping for a 2 camera show, with typically 4 to 6 track dual-system audio recorded by the sound guy. I can sync, and make multicam clips any number of ways–whether sync by timecode, sync by audio, or eyeballing–but whenever I edit using the MC clip, Premiere mixes down all the audio channels into a stereo single track, and I cannot pick and choose which audio track from the original to use. With 2-5 people mic'd on lavs, I need to be able to choose which audio is either cut in or heard at any given shot.
Is there any way to have control in multicam clips over which track of audio gets edited into the timeline, or even: that all tracks of audio get cut in? It's very important for the editors to be able to see waveform (which also disappears for some reason in the mixdown) and pick and choose which audio is heard?
I'm sure this might be a simple fix, but I cannot get my head around it for workflow purposes for my assistant editors. We need to use multicam, but this audio thing is driving all of us crazy. None of us can figure out how to have a multicam clip and use it with control over what audio is cut in.

True, but what I need to be able to do is have my multicam sequence in the source monitor, and cut into my working sequence with either just the audio I need from the sound guy's multi-channel WAV, OR cut in all the sound and from then I can just enable or disable what I need or don't need. But also be able to match back to the Multicam source from my working sequence.
I don't want to have to open the synced sequence, and razor blade the things I need and have to copy and paste into my working sequence in order to have the full spectrum of my multi-channel mono lav WAV files...with their waveforms visible.
Essentially, I want my Multicam clips to load in the source monitor, and the ability to cut them into the working sequence without it mixing down the audio into a single track with no visible waveform–which is what it is doing currently. Can I choose to edit in either ALL of the tracks of the WAV file along with the camera shot I want, or control which audio gets cut in?

What kind of Mac to you have?  This camera is a tape based DV one that connects best with firewire and I cannot tell if your Mac has firewire.  If your mac *does* have firewire, get a camcorder firewire cable and try again.
ETA:  Oops, I am pretty sure that all the "desktop iMacs" have firewire, so you should be good to go.  You will probably need a cord that goes from FW800 to your camcorder.

  • How do I crop an image with a Clipping Mask using a circle instead of a rectangle?

I watched Adobe TV Illustrator's tutorial about cropping images with a clipping mask. In the video, the presenter uses the rectangle tool with the clipping mask, and makes a reference that the circle or vector shape could be used, but I cannot figure out how to get the circle.
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-illustrator-cs6/cropping-images-with-clipping-masks/
I'm new to Illustrator and need step by step instructions!
    Thanks!

    Christine,
As Larry said, and as I said in the first post:
For a Clipping Mask, you just create a path, in this case a circle, and place it on top of the image, then select both and Object>Clipping Mask>Make.
You can see the shortcut when you use the dropdown; it is Ctrl+7 for Windows.
At least in the old days, you could also use Alt/Option+O+M+M (easy to remember, Object>Mask>Make).
It is easy to skip/overlook the exact steps.

aim trying to put 2 audio clips together and you can hear the unnatural break. Is there a transition I can insert to cover it up. Kind of like we do with video clips? Like an overlay? Thank you

You could put the two clips on two different tracks with a slide overlap and fade the first clip out out and the second clip in.
Or trim both clips in a way, that the first clip ens with silence and the second clip starts with silence.

  • Problems using Anyconnect 3.x client together with Kaspersky AntiVirus

We have Notebooks with Windows Vista - most of the notebooks have "Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 für Windows Workstation" installed and some "Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 für Windows".
Anyconnect 2.5 works perfect on these notebooks.
But when I upgrade anyconnect to version 3.0 or 3.1, I have the problem that all HTTP traffic is blocked - all other network traffic is still working.
When I quit the Kaspersky client (or uninstall it), everything is working again - except that I have no working antivirus protection.
Of course, I have tried different settings for the Kaspersky client (without success) and asked our Kaspersky support (who said that anyconnect is causing this problem and not Kaspersky).
My first experience with a Windows 7 notebook is that this problem does not exist using Windows 7.
So maybe the problem is caused by a strange combination of Windows Vista, Anyconnect 3.x and Kaspersky.
Does anyone else has problems using Anyconnect 3.x client together with Kaspersky AntiVirus?
    Kind regards,
    Peter

We've recently run into an issue related to this. We found that it was related somehow to Firefox. If one looks inside of
/Applications/Cisco/Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.app/Contents/MacOS/ there are symlinks to Firefox libraries:
    $ ls -lntotal 1800-rwxrwxr-x  1 0     80  891232 Aug  3  2012 Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Clientlrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      60 Jun 13 15:57 libmozsqlite3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libmozsqlite3.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      55 Jun 13 15:57 libnspr4.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libnspr4.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      54 Jun 13 15:57 libnss3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libnss3.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      58 Jun 13 15:57 libnssutil3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libnssutil3.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      54 Jun 13 15:57 libplc4.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libplc4.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      55 Jun 13 15:57 libplds4.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libplds4.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      58 Jun 13 15:57 libsoftokn3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libsoftokn3.dylib
So as a simple confirmation we were able to remove Firefox and have AnyConnect connect fine. As a more permanent workaround we replaced the above symlinks with 0 byte files and we were able to have our cake (AnyConnect connecting) and eat it too (Firefox installed as well).

  • Audio data not loading with certain clips. Premiere Pro CC 2014, using .mts files

When I open a project, sometimes a clip will not load its audio data. In the photo I've attached, you can see the video clip on the right has the waveforms showing up, but not for the clip on the left. Rendering does nothing, I've tried clearing Premiere's cache, and I've signed out and back into Creative Cloud as I saw in another forum post with no success...any suggestions?

Right clicking, and selecting "make offline" then re-linking the media seems to work. Thanks! Just weird how this happens sporadically with different clips in different projects when I open them.

  • Multiclip editing with 'broken' clips

I've got three DIFFERENT takes of a group singing a song.
I want to use the sound from one take - making that take the master.
The other two takes wander in and out of time.  I'd like to chop them up to make sections fit, then fill the non-fitting spaces with blank slugs.  And then I'd like to be able to work on the song as a multiclip.
So the timecode will not be contiguous on two of the tracks.  Clip, blank, clip, blank.
Mmmm.  So, as far as I can tell, I'd have to export out those two tracks, re-import them as new media, THEN make a multi-clip.
Or can someone suggest a way I can work with the two tracks that will have a dozen clips (and blanks filled with slugs) each on them ... without having to create another generation of the media?
    All ears,
    Ben

    Hey Ben
It's XDCAM EX (from a Sony EX3).  Mmm. GOP.  Maybe I could export it as ProRes 4:2:2 HQ, I wonder if that would make a difference?  Are you suggesting there is generational loss from XDCAM?
Any time you recompress when working with a compressed codec then there is necessarily a generational loss ... though how bad it is will depends on how lossy the codec. When you Export > Quicktime Movie from FCP, if the clip isn't otherwise processed, then you're just copying the bits from the original files, frame for frame, not necessarily recompressing ... but where the codec has a GOP format (like XDCAM) then any edits at all to the original file can compromise that GOP structure, which means no matter which way you cut it the whole GOP structure has to be rebuilt (re-conformed), which effectively means that you get a recompression. Exporting as ProRes 422 is still a recompression, but it's a very good quality I-frame codec so at least you'd end up with a clip thats in a more edit friendly format (and whats widely considered to be a "visually lossless" one.
I've been able to sync up the three takes ... the tempo is different in each, very slight, so every now and then I lose a second (or less than) as I re-sync.  Fill the spaces with slugs.  But they are all sitting on the timeline, stacked on their own tracks.
One of them is the master take chosen by the client.  The other two are with the breaks (to adjust sync).  I will make a ProRes 4:2:2 HQ of each.  And then I should be able to sync all three as multiclips, right?
Once you've got your clips all synced up on the timeline then you're going to want to export each track as a separate clip. Unfortunately, unlike some other NLE's, FCP does not currently allow you to create multiclips from an existing stack of clips that are pre synced in the timeline. Instead, as noted, you'll have to export each of the 3 tracks as separate clips and then reimport those clips, select them, and choose Modify menu > Make Multiclip... it'll ask you how you want to sync them,  if you've made them as above then you should be able to gang them together according to their In Points.
    Hope it helps

  • CS4 crashes when working with 720p clips

The 720p clips were taken by a Panasonic DC with movie feature and the format is motion jpeg (xxx.mov). I used to edit the clips with CS3 without any problem. But now with CS4, which crashes even after some scrubbing and playing. I have tried formatting my harddisk and reinstalling vista and CS4, but still the same.
    Any idea please ?

I was able to get one interlaced encode at 29.97, lower first, that looked dreadful. Blocky, pixellated, ugly. That is the only time it has ever completed making an avi file that played. A Microsoft RLE codec completed the output but would not play in Windows Media Player.
    And here's the thing:
Using the same footage with the same codec I am able to get beautiful Hi Def 1280x720p, 30fps, square pixel, 44.1kHz avi file exports from PREMIERE 6.0! Everything is the same except AME, so it's not like there is no baseline or background upon which I'm basing things.

  • Trim mode with merged clips

I'm cutting a feature film on FCP 5.0.4 editing 23.98 NTSC DVCAM. The audio was recorded on a hard disk recorder with independent timecode and the clips were merged using slates.
If I enter trim mode by double clicking on the video track (with the purpose of trimming only the video track) and change the duration by clicking on the +/-1 or 5 frame buttons, the picture will suddenly jump by 5 or 6 seconds and the white "out shift" or "in shift" numbers will jump 5 or 6 seconds as well. Dynamic trimming has the same problem.
However, the actual edit made is correct, it's just impossible to see what frame I'm on without playing it back or getting out of trim mode. If I trim the audio and video tracks together then everything works as it should.
Has anyone seen this problem before? Know how to fix it? I couldn't find anything in the archives.

I created a new user account and trashed my preferences and I have the same problems. I created a new project, and new sequences. Same problems.
It only happens with 23.98 (batch reverse telecined using Cinema Tools) NTSC DV clips that have been merged with separate 24-bit 48 khz Quicktime audio clips (converted from BWF using BWF2XML). Clips that were captured from the tape with audio and video simultaneously don't have this problem. The discrepancies between the actual amounts trimmed and the white numbers in the trim windows are consistent. If it's off by 6:10 on a clip, every time I try to trim that clip it will be off by the same amount. But the number varies from clip to clip. It's generally 5-8 seconds.
If I try to trim only the audio, I don't have any trouble. If I trim the audio and video at the same time I don't have any trouble. It's only when I trim the video on its own. If I use the original video clip before it's merged with an audio track then it trims fine. If I cut the merged clip into a sequence then delete the audio track from the sequence the problem remains.

  • Question about putting video clips together

I am trying to put clips together in Premier Elements 12 using Windows 7 Professional. I keep getting an error message: "This thype of file is not supported or the required codec is not installed."
I admit that the clips are mostly jpeg and Flip video. I have installed the Flipshare software on the computer. What can I do to put these clips together? I saw an answer that mentioned exporting the BBB.prel Timeline to an appropriate file saved to  the computer hard drive and then import that file into AAA.prel, using  AAA.prel's Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets from where you drag  the import to the Expert workspace Timeline to join the AAA.prel  content already there.
But I don't know how to export, and what is an "appropriate file"?
    Thanks.

We need more information in order to resolve your issue.
Are you saying that you cannot import even .jpeg photos into your Premiere Elements 12 Windows project...and your Flip video as well?
    a. Were these jpeg processed in Photoshop? Do you know if they have the CMYK color profile? What are their pixel dimensions (width and height in pixels)?
    b. What is the brand/model/settings of the camera producing the Flip video?
With the above information we can get at the media and program compatibility issue(s) that might be triggering the message "This type of file is not supported or the required codec is not installed."
You say that you have installed "Flipshare software" to your computer. What do you intend to do with it? If you are thinking to use it to convert the problem files into another format that Premiere Elements will accept, we still need to know the properties of what you are working with and set Premiere Elements accordingly.
The concept of using content from one Premiere Elements project file into another Premiere Elements project file does not apply to the situation that you describe for your issue.
You need to describe what you have for media and then we can proceed from there.
The brand/model/settings for the camera that produced the Flip video is a good start.
MediaInfo and gspot are programs to get at the properties of your video. But the brand/model/settings information may be all that we need.

Please review and consider and then we can decide what next.

In iMovie 11 small gaps in clips seem to transition nicely, but how do I reduce or eliminate the larger gaps? I can't find a way to move the clips together.

    I'm intrigued by this!
Can you explain further what the gaps look like when you export the movie. Are there black spaces, for example? You mentioned earlier that "it jumps quickly between clips that I edited which gives it a jerky appearance at those transitions". So you are possibly just seeing a change in sudden movement when moving from one clip to another.
I've noticed when shooting with my AVCHD camcorder that if I quickly move the camera straight after pressing the record button to stop recording, a jerky movement appears when played back. This is because the camera is still recording for a fraction of a second after pressing the button, that is, there is a slight delay before actual recording stops on the hard drive (unlike a tape based camera).
I simply edit out these annoying movements. When hovering the pointer over the beginning or end of a clip, a small icon appears, shaped like a left/right arrow. Click on the icon and a small section of the clip end (or beginning if editing the start point) will be partly encased in an orange border. You can then drag the border's handle inwards in increments of one frame, up to one second duration. Repeat this if you wish to trim more than one second. I find this better for short trimming than just dragging the clip ends inwards and using Trim to Selection from the pop-up menu, as it is quicker and has more precision. To enable this feature, in iMovie > Preferences - Browser tab, check the box labelled "Show Fine Tuning controls".
Of course, this may not be what you are seeing. But I can't really envisage what you mean by "how do I reduce or eliminate the larger gaps", as there should be no gaps, as explained by AppleMan1958. Could you please provide some more information, or include a screenshot of what you are describing.
To take a screenshot, press the key combination Command+Shift+4 - a crosshair will appear on screen. Drag this diagonally across the section you want to capture. A .png image file will appear on the Desktop. When posting here you will see a camera icon in the reply window's menu bar. Click on the camera icon then follow the steps provided (it lets you navigate to the image). Sorry if you already know this!

  • Link external Video with Movie Clip

Hello all. I captured audio with an external recorder and would like to know how to link it with the clip in the timeline? I currently have them all sync up and would like to have them linked so they are locked and place and any changes in the timeline clips, reflects to the audio file as well. I have tired Shift L and also Apple L and none seem to lock both together. Any help or info appreciated. THanks
    Hector

If the video and the audio are in the timeline selecting both the video track and the audio track and pressing Cmd-L will link them. If they are in the browser with marked in points you can use the merge clip function.

  • String clips together from rtsp

    Hi
I'm trying to find the best way of stringing clips together for example a.mov, b.mov and c.mov.
At the moment they are all playable over rtsp seperately.
I want users to be able to watch them back-to-back. I know I can do this with smil scripts using <seq> but I don't like that there are no time-controls to skip forward or backwards, etc.
How do I create a reference file to point to rtsp://.../a.mov, b.mov and c.mov??
Is that the best way to go?

    okay...getting there.
I figured out some more info on smil that you can use:
    time-slider="true"
to add the scrubber but as the media is loaded sequentially the scrubber can jump around and move at different speeds as the "presentation" grows in size...but it did seem to work ok.
I'm still very keen to figure out how you create a reference file for multiple movs running off of rtsp. Any ideas?
