Using a DAQCard-1200 on Windows XP w/ LabView 8.0

I'm attempting to connect a Windows XP equipped laptop running LabView 8.0 with a DAQCard-1200.  I originally gathered data from an experiment from an older computer running LabView 6, and so I copied the vi over to the new system.  Originally I was missing some subVIs from the DAQ folder.  Now I've copied files from the older version that it was missing (AI acquire waveforms, 1easyio.lbb, files of that nature) into the new folder DAQmx.  These files create the error message "... is not executable".  I've read some stuff of the discussion boards that it seems to me that DAQ isn't the same as DAQmx, but I'm not sure why.  As soon as I fix this problem, I'm also having difficulty installing the new 6.9.3 driver for the DAQCard-1200 because theres a newer version installed.  I found the discussion board topic about how to uninstall newer versions through the control panel and I did that, but that's actually when the problems started happening with non-executable vi's.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Mike,
You are correct that Traditional NI-DAQ and DAQmx are different.  Before setting up a system you need to determine which one is right for you.  You can check here to see the most recent version(s) of the driver which are compatable with your hardware. The DAQCard-1200 is not supported by DAQmx, and the most recent version of Traditional DAQ which is compatable is NI-DAQ 6.9.3.
The second thing to take into consideration is software compatibility.  You must check to see what LabVIEW versions are compatable with DAQmx 6.9.3.  This information is provided to you in a Knowledge Base.  Traditional NI-DAQ was designed for use in LabVIEW 6.1.  It will also install to earlier versions back until LabVIEW 5.0.1.  Although it is not recommended, it is possible to use DAQ 6.9.3 with LabVIEW 8.0.  The procedure for getting this to work is outlined in Using Older Versions of NI-DAQ (6.9.3) with LabVIEW 7.x or 8.x.
After installing the correct version of the driver, you can try opening and running your VI.  There may be some minor modifications required to get the application to run in LabVIEW 8.0.  Do not copy DAQ or DAQmx VIs between computers.  It is likely that this can cause difficulty in communicating with your device due to incompatibilities (i.e a newer VI may not be compatable with your DAQCard-1200).  If you find that you are still unable to run your VI after following the above suggestions, post back with the problem you are having for further guidance. If possible, it would be recommended to upgrade your hardware and begin working with DAQmx to ensure the best possible support with your application.

  • DAQCard 1200: How can I send two TTL singals on separate channels with adjustable delay shortly after (typically a few milliseconds) external triggering?

    Hi, this is probably a simple question, but I have never used the digital and timing part of any DAQboard before... I wish to use an old Power Macintosh 7200 with a DAQCard 1200 for timing and synchronizing external events . The scenario is as follows; an external device (in my case; a CCD camera) sends a trigger signal (TTL, 600 ns). I want this signal to trigger the DAQCard, whereafter I want the DAQCard to send two TTL pulses (20 microsecond duration) from two separate channels (one pulse from each channel). The first pulse must be sent within a few milliseconds after the trigger is recieved. Th
    en I wish to be able to control the delay from the first pulse is sent and to the second pulse. This delay should preferably be adjustable from a few microseconds and up to at least 20 milliseconds. How can I achieve that kind of operation? (I need a few tips to get started.. like for instance: should I connect the external trigger signal to the EXTTRIG pin or to the gate pin of one of the counters? Do I have to interconnect the counters in some way? Do I have to invert the OUT signals? etc..)Thanks for your help in advance.

    I have not personally used the DAQCard 1200, but if it is similar to the E-series devices, you route the trigger signal to the gates of both counters.
    In your code, use the Data Acquisition->Counter->Generate Delayed Pulse VI twice, once for each counter. You can then set an input on that VI to select to trigger on the gate, and set the delay and pulse width of the pulse. Since both will start from the same trigger, you can delay either pulse as long as you wish, from microsecond to seconds, making the second pulse follow the first.

  • I want to use an old Daqcard 1200 with Labview 8.5. Where is the driver?

    I'm using Labview 8.5. I have an old Daqcard 1200 and there doesn't seem to be a driver for it. I downloaded an older version of NI-DAQ that claimed to have support for that card, but when I tried to install it wanted me to uninstall my newer version. Is there a way to use this card without going back to an ancient version of NI-DAQ?

    Unless there is some specific technical problem with interfacing to the old equipment, I don't think it is unreasonable at all to expect them to include drivers for legacy equipment. It would cost them very little to throw a few extra drivers into a package that encompasses their whole product line anyway, other than the missed opportunity costs associated with not selling new equipment in a few rare cases (which is probably what this is really about) .
    NI will probably explain better than i do. in general, they changed the way the DAQ driver operates, introducing also DAQmx. this is incompatible with the old way of functionning. for you, it forces you to choose the driver version to use.
    But anyway, it's not worth it for me to set up a machine just to run this thing. I'm just going to trash it. Thanks for the help.
    why dont you sell it over ebay? there are quite a bit that would love using it, for cheap enough. for example, this was one of the latest cards exhibiting 3 counters, operating differently than the modern version. it has its usefullness...Also, if this is the only one card installed in the computer, you wont miss anything with the new drivers

  • DAQCard 1200 / SC-2043-SG - Other Analogue Sensor Inputs?

    Hello!
    I am relatively new to these things, so sorry for any ignorance
    I have a self designed servo-hydraulic structural test rig with a load cell and displacement sensor on the hydraulic cylinder.
    Signals from both these sensors are inputted via a CB 50LP connector board and then a DAQCard 1200 to a PC using a Labview 6i program, through pins 1 and 2.
    I also have an in-house made strain gauge signal box that inputs to pins 3, 4, 5 & 6.
    The DAQ card is using NRSE.
    Now, this all worked fine for years, but now the in-house strain gauge board is kaput, so I am trying to connect up a SC-2043-SG that we have instead of the kaput inhouse board and the CB 50LP.
    I have read the DAQ Card and SC-2043-SG manuals, and pretty much understand what I have to do, but....
     Page 3.6 in the manual says, "Pins 1-8: Analog Input Channels 0 through 7—These pins carry the conditioned strain gauge bridge signals (referenced to AISENSE) to the DAQ board. They are not routed to screw terminals."
    So my problem is, how can I connect the first two analogue channels (pins 1 & 2) to my load cell and displacement transducer, whilst using pins 3 to 8 for the strain gauges, with the SC-2043-SG?
    I though I could just cut the 1 & 2 wires of the ribbon connector from the DAQ card to the SC-2043-SG and connect them directly to the sensors (and then not use strain gauge channels 1 & 2 on the SC-2043-SG), but am not sure if this would work / have any unwanted implications.
    Would this be OK, or is there an easier, neater way?

    Hi Bife,
    The SC-2043 is designed for strain gauge only, so you can't connect basic voltage signals.
    It is true that you can cut the cable in order to provide your own signals to the DAQ card.
    (not recommended, but it should work)
    You can also contact us so that we can suggest a better hardware (maybe the SC-2345 that can do multiple types of signal conditionning in a single enclosure).

  • Easiest way to connect DAQCard-1200 to BNC Input

    I have a DAQCard-1200 and I'm looking to capture a waveform from a BNC input signal. I can't seem to find any cables that go along with it, so I was wondering what the simplest setup is for collecting one channel of BNC input. Do I have to buy a Ribbon Cable and connect that to a BNC Adapter Board?

    To obtain BNC connectivity with your DAQCard-1200, you will want to use the BNC-2081 connector block. The PR50-50F cable will connect your DAQCard-1200 directly to the BNC-2081. Below is a link to the user manual for the BNC-2081:

    The digital lines on the DAQCard-1200 do not have hardware timing associated with them, so the maximum read/write rate will depend on software timing.
    This means that the read/write will depend on how fast your code can execute. One thing to remember is that as other programs call for CPU time you application code will slow down and if nothing else is using CPU time your application will run faster up to a point.
    If you need hardware timed digital I/O I would recommend using a DAQCard-6533.

    Ok so I downloaded the most current installer CS5.1, My previous installer was version 5.0. It did install fine fully updated to my license version. I just wanted to update in case anyone in the future has a similiar experience. Too bad this advice was not offered by the "experts" here.

  • Using Boot Camp to install Windows XP: problems with display going blank

    I have a new Mac mini (early 2009) connected to an older NEC MultiSync LCD (VGA only) display through a KVM.
    I initially used the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to make the display connection.
    All worked fine with Mac OS X, but when I attempted to use Boot Camp to install Windows XP (Home), the display would go blank with the display saying "no signal" at some point during the install and I couldn't get the mini's display back without power cycling the mini. Numerous attempts at removing the Boot Camp partition, re-partitioning, and retrying resulted in nothing but frustration. I typically had to force the mini to boot from the OS X install DVD or Mac partition to make the mini usable again.
    I have used my LCD display and KVM combination with a variety of computers running a variety of operating systems, including older Mac minis running both Mac OS X and XP, with no problems. And I intend to keep using it, so I wasn't going to assume the problem was there!
    After noting that Apple had already released a [firmware update|http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mini_DisplayPort_to_VGA_FirmwareUpdate] for this adapter to address "[possible intermittent flickering and compatibility issues|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3492]", I double checked that it was up to date--and it was. But, it made me suspicious that this adapter might have some more problems and be the source of the troubles I was experiencing.
    So, I got an Apple Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and tried that.
    No more display problems! Everything works fine with Mac OS X. Windows XP installed without so much as a flicker, and it works smoothly with my setup.
    I'm curious if I'm the only one who was affected by this problem?

    Restart your Mac while holding down the Alt/Option-key until you get to the Boot Selection Screen.
    Choose to boot OSX.
    Use the BootCamp Assistant to remove the Windows partition.
    Go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and rest the default to be your OSX volume.
    Reboot your Mac again.
    Follow the instructions from here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173 and use the BootCamp Assistant again to install Windows 7

    For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
    The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Cannot use Remote Desktop host on Windows 8.1 Pro, termsrv corrupted?

    Few days ago I upgraded my home desktop machine from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 Professional so I can use the Remote Desktop feature.
    I enabled everything needed, checked "Allow computers to connect to this computer" from the Remote Settings, forwarded the port 3389 in my rounter and allowed it in my firewall etc...
    But I still can't connect to this computer from outside my home network or inside it. The error I get trying to connect is this:

    Since it's the first time I use this tool I'm not familiar with this log file, but what I managed to figure out from it is that termsrv.dll is corrupted and windows cannot repair it for some reason.
    My question is:
    How can I repair this file? Is this even the problem preventing me from connecting to this computer via Remote Desktop?

    managed to figure out from it is that termsrv.dll is corrupted and windows cannot repair it for some reason.
    So, the next step supposedly is
    using  DISM.
    Coincidentally I reached that page last night from
    this one, which I thought gave me a better awareness of how much manual repair might be possible.  E.g. maybe the WinSxS isn't quite as fragile as we are being led to believe?  (It's making me feel sort of like how I used to feel about the
    registry when seeing all the caveats about using RegEdit before I got used to that tool.)

    Something else that I became aware of yesterday serendipitously is SxStrace.exe.  I have never seen it used but it sounds useful.  E.g. perhaps easier to interpret for supplemental clues than the ProcMon trace that I usually advocate. 
    Or perhaps use both and see in ProcMon when the SxStrace is writing.   E.g. filter with  Operation Is WriteFile.
    However, what I would do first is find out what the state of your system is regarding that module.  E.g. try this Powershell pipeline to list what you have.
    PS C:\windows> dir -R -Fil "termsrv.dll" | sort-object FullName | ft Length, FullName -AutoSize
    Note that I am giving you the whole command line, including prompt to show where the command should be started from.
    C.f. another thread where doing the same diagnostic procedure seems to be finding more a problem with the Windows Update software than with the user's WinSxS cache.

Photos and a few of the videos came over but i am missing the majority of the videos. Help please!!! I have tried omnidisksweeper with no success in finding them.
    in my Usage it says i have over 40 gb of movies when i only have about 9gb which i can see using spotlight search. i really hope the other amount is my missing videos! these are videos of my kids as babies.

    Read this post and do the migration again, putting the library in a portable shape first if necessary.

In other words, in Windows, you can see the first image that is inside the folder as an icon on the folder itself. Is there a way to do this on the mac? Maybe some software program that will do it?     It would be brilliant if Apple could make picture folders behave like events in iPhoto. You could see a photo on the folder, and also mouse over it to change pictures.
    But no, there's not an application I'm aware of that does this. You can manually make a picture the folder icon, but it's a tedious process.
    Unfortunately this is another example of how dated and worn out the Mac's interface is. The concept of using a file folder as the icon for a directory of images is so 80's. You could use coverflow, but that only helps once you're in the directory itself. Or use iPhoto or Aperture, although they just do photos. Or try Lyn as an alternative: it has a sort of iTunes-like interface, and makes it easy to organize photos without having to put them in iPhoto. And it can display photos that are already in Libraries.
    But you'd probably need a Finder alternative. I use Leap, which displays any type of document. It also does tagging, which is another huge omission in the Finder. More like Windows Explorer (although still no photo on folder icons).
    Another very stylish Finder alternative, especially useful for pictures, is FileBrowse. I don't know why it hasn't gotten more attention. It DOES put photo previews on the folders it shows. And allows one-click expansion to show the photo enlarged. It's super fast, and even allow you to group/sort by camera or flash! It really has to be seen to be appreciated. It works in Lion, although it doesn't seem to be have been updated lately. http://www.filebrowse.com/index.html
