Using awt in Linux with XWindows running but not running in GUI

I need to use the awt package from a console environment in Linux. I have the XWindows server running in the background but the main system and all my terminals are running in console mode, text only. We have to do this for other support reasons.When I try to use awt from the console it gives me a cannot locate server on 0:0. Is there any way to use the X server without starting in graphical mode to use the awt package? A bean that I am needing to use refers to it but I do not need to draw a window or anything like that. It is just a program that kicks off, creates a file, and then exits. No user interface. Thanks for any help. Let me know if you need anymore details.

Starting from 1.4 AWT has Headless mode which allows to run applications which load AWT but doesn't use it for full extent. See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/awt/AWTChanges.html#headless for details.

look people, i may have a solution for this. This happened to me a few times before and resolved alone, but last time it happened was when i turned off my router and back on while my comp was running and appeared when i tried opening firefox after that. so wat i did was i shutdown the computer and the router and tried turning both on again, and it resolved.
Therefore, Summary: Shutdown computer then turnoff router then turn both back on

Apple, as I'm sure you know, now manage official phone 'unlocks' directly rather than the Newtork doing so.
When a GSM Network Provider buys a consignment of iPhone's they are locked to that carrier and may only be officially unlocked if said carrier requests it. If so, it is Apple who do this, via iTunes.
I am therefore inclined to think that part of the any generic iTunes syncing process involves the transmission of key hardware data, including IMEI, to Apple whenever the handset is synced.
If this is the case and, as each iTunes account is linked to a credit card, were Apple to maintain a database of genuinely stolen phones (ones reported to Police) they could advise said Police force when a stolen phone stuck its metaphorical head over the parapets once again? They would be able to identify the name & address of the new user.
I have spoken to the Police here in Ireland today and they regularly engage with Apple on such matters.
This may not be tracking as we know it Jim, (not using GSM Triangulation or GPS) but it's arguably even more targetted and leaves an indelible fingerprint of guilt on the thief.

I'm looking for some help connecting linksys IP Cameras to my home network to monitor my property when I'm travelling. I used to do this with linksys WAPS, but since I've discarded all my old linksys networking and standardized on airport, I can't get these things working. I know that I have to identify my camera through the DHCP table and set up port forwarding and there is the problem.
My network consists of 4 base stations set up in a roaming network - same network name and passwords. I need to do it this way so I don't have to switch network when I move from one side of the house to the other, go to the cabana, or my shop in the barn. The network works pretty well since I went to a roaming set up. Good performance, yata, yata, yata.
However, the roaming network requires the AEBS's to be set up in bridge mode, rather than sharing an ip address. When the AEBS is set to bridge mode, you don't see a DCHP table or have the ability to identify your IP Cam through the AEBS - and hence, no port forwarding.
I am able to identify and set up my Linksys IP Cam by locating the ip address on my FIOS router, even though, it's plugged into an AEBS. I set it up, see the video, remove the ethernet cable from the IP Cam, restart - and I can't get to it from an AEBS. In researching this, it appears, I should be setting up the AEBS to "share an IP Address", going to the DHCP table and identifying the camera's IP address and setting up port forwarding. However, you don't see any of the DHCP or port forwarding options in Airport Network Utility when configuring in bridge mode.
I'm hoping I'm missing something here and that the solution isn't to set it up at the FIOS router level, but I'm beginning to think that's my only hope. What concerns me there is that I should be able to see the IP cam on the network without port forwarding since I'm not coming from outside, and I can't even do this unless it's connected hard wire.
I'd appreciate any insight into this that anyone might have. I've hit the wall with what I know.

In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first.

Had this problem for quite a while but found a work-a-round. I click anywhere in the text I want to delete and insert any character. I am then able to block and delete any text I want to. It's been working great.

Looking at the error message "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection" , It appears hostname and port may be incorrect. Review the targets.xml under E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\SAP_solman_SDB\emd and
emoms.properties under E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\SAP_solman_SDB\config folder to make sure host ( sap_solman) and port (1527) are correct.
As far as setting the environment variables goes, you can go to control panel -> system -> advanced -> environment variables and set the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID

Windows 8.1 64bit. Webcam works with "Camera" app but not with Skype.

I've spent a few hours googling and trying out various things - all listed below. I give up - any ideas??? OS: Windows 8.1 64bitMemory: 32GBWebCam: Microsoft VX-7000. OK - I appear to have resolved the issue. I restricted my google terms to [vx-7000 site:microsoft.com "windows 8.1"] Which uncovered this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933311 I noticed there were a couple of Windows 7 x64 specific registry settings that were mentioned so I checked these and they weren't as per the article. In fact - one of the Registry Keys was already used by other software "AI Charger+" which is some ValueAdd software that came with my motherboard. I uninstalled AI Charger+, uninstalled LifeCam driver. Reinstalled LifeCam driver in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Still not working. I returned to the registry and noticed the settings still differed from the above article. I corrected them (which involved not just amending Data but having to add new Values). I then disabled and reenabled the LifeCam from dvcmgmt.msc I was then able to get video from the webcam in the Skype for Desktop preview screen.

You must go to the website of the audio interface manufacturer and look for, download and install updated drivers for the audio device you are using.
This is not, neccessarily, an Apple issue.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:

C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

My iPhone4 docks correctly with some devices but not others, please help!

Firstly spologies if this is old news but sometimes its easier to 're-ask' than trawl thousands of pages!.....
I have a 3-year old iPhone 4 that has developed a problem which i'm trying hard to solve;
*Phone used to dock fine with anything and everything - this was about 1 year ago.
*for no apparent reason it ceased docking with my Bose Soundock and a Logic3 accessory dock (connected to a hi-fi) at home
*symptoms were; it would charge and operate as normal whilst docked but would not play music through either (the Logic3 dock did not acknowledge it was docked). Otherwise it would sync and connect normally with iTunes, etc. and connected fine when plugged into my car.
*I reset it, restored it from back-up, updated/reinstalled iOS (this has since updated at least twice) with no other effects. Also checked and reset all settings.
*I subsequently bought a Pure Contour dock as I was able to try it in the shop and my phone worked with it, plus it has Airplay anyway. I have since, in an attempt to find a bedside DAB radio/alarm dock that works with it, found that it works fine with some devices but not others with no rhyme or reason as to which.
*2 days ago I changed out the docking port myself using a cheap replacement bought from Amazon, to see if it would cure.
* now the problem is reversed! The Bose and Logic3 docks I have, that it wouldn't work on before, it now DOES....and the Pure dock and my car, which it DID work with before now fail to connect with it!
*just to reiterate this, my wife's gen3 and gen5 iPods dock and work faultlessly with all devices mentioned....and mine had done previously.
to my knowledge it is NOT;
- a compatibility issue. The phone used to work fine on everything I had. Then it stopped. How's that?!
- a connector issue. The male connectors on all docks haven't changed.......and the female connector in my phone has changed from liking selected devices to then liking the others!! (it is female after all ;-) !)
-a software issue. iOS has been updated and the phone wiped and restored and all sorts so many times I can;t see how it can be!
could it be a problem with the data exchange between phone and device when it is docked??
or do I really need to try changing the port for an 'official' one??
or is it just broken and that's that?!

It's either a problem with the connector on your phone (dirt, lint, bent pin, corrosion) or with its connection to the motherboard inside. Cleaning the connector is a good place to start; either a dry toothbrush, air blast can or wood toothpick. Next inspect it carefully with a good magnifying glass or jeweler's loupe. If nothing turns up it is probably damage inside, which will be difficult to fix. Aren't you due for an upgrade about now? Your iPhone 4 is 3 generations out of date!
