Using BPEL console testing with XML attributes

I'm having trouble with using an XML attribute in my BPEL process. When I put an attribute on my input element, the BPEL Console test page no longer works. Here's what I'm doing:
I create a synchronous new BPEL project in JDeveloper using the default input and output XSDs, and add a simple assign to assign the input to the output. When I deploy this and look at it in BPEL console, I can see the input field and enter my value to test.
Now I go back into JDeveloper and add an attribute to the input element, and then redeploy my process. Now when I go into BPEL console, the Initiate tab no longer has any field for me to enter my value. Clicking the XML Source radio button doesn't help either. (I also tried invoking the BPEL process web service through the app server control - same issue.)
I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3 with App Server 10.1.3.3.0. Does anyone know how to make the BPEL Console testing work with XSDs that contain attributes?
Thanks,
Skip

A bit more info on this. It doesn't appear that the problem is limited to the console tester. I created another BPEL process which calls my original process, and attempted to set the attribute on the input using the Assign activity. JDeveloper generated this:
<assign name="Assign_1">
<copy>
<from variable="inputVariable" part="payload"
query="/client:TestAttributes2ProcessRequest/client:input"/>
<to variable="Invoke_1_process_InputVariable" part="payload"
query="/ns1:TestAttributesProcessRequest/ns1:input"/>
</copy>
<copy>
<from expression="'bob'"/>
<to variable="Invoke_1_process_InputVariable" part="payload"
query="/ns1:TestAttributesProcessRequest/ns1:input/@attribute1"/>
</copy>
</assign>
As you can see this is mapping a variable into the /TestAttributesProcessRequest/input element and then attempting to set the attribute of that element to the value 'bob'. This compiles just fine but when this code is executed, this error occurs:
Error in <assign> expression: <to> value is empty at line "87". The XPath expression : "" returns zero node, when applied to document shown below:
oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLElement@7efe7efe
(Line 87 is query="/ns1:TestAttributesProcessRequest/ns1:input/@attribute1"/>)
Is there something wrong with this generated code? Do I need to do some kind of custom code to set attributes, instead of using the graphical tools in JDeveloper?

  • Error logging in using BPEL Console

    Hi
    When I try to login using BPEL Console, I get following error:
    "No domains accessible to the user logged in"
    I tried link "Goto BPEL Admin". I found no domains there. I am unable to add new domain also.
    Can anyone let me know if I need to change any configuration to make this work?
    Thanks

    Hi Badri,
    Check 1:
    First checkpoint where we can identify the detail of error description is checking the following log files;
    Domain Log: $SOA_Home\bpel\domains\default\logs\domain.log ('default' is the default domain name)
    - This log file will be created everytime the SOA service is started and will log any domain level startup issues
    OPMN Log: $SOA_Home\opmn\logs\OC4J~oc4j_soa~default_group~1.log
    - This log file will log all the BPEL process specific logs (creation/termination)
    System Log: $SOA_Home\bpel\system\logs\orabpel.log
    - System level logging is provided for infrastructure, AXIS, and WSIF issues
    All these log files should give a clear picture about the error which might be causing this issue, based on which you can take necessary actions.
    Check 2:
    Check whether the database on top of which Oracle SOA suite was installed is up & running. If not, ensure the RDBMS listener is running & restart SOA service.
    Check 3:
    The Oracle SOA suite will be installed on top of a database (Oracle Lite/external Oracle DB), where three schemas would have been created during installation namely Orabpel, Oraesb, Orawsm. These schemas might have got corrupted (or) their passwords might have got changed which throws "No domains accessible to the user logged in." error in Oracle BPEL console. Ensure all 3 schemas are present in the database and their passwords are intact as specified in the datasources.xml/during installation and restart SOA service after corrections.
    Check 4:
    If any class files have been added in the SOA suite, ensure they are properly compiled and deployed @ $SOA_Home\bpel\system\classes.
    Check 5:
    If you have added any custom xpath functions for use in the BPEL process, you might have added entries in the $SOA_Home/bpel/system/config/xpath-functions.xml. Ensure that this file is well formed.
    Check 6:
    If you have deployed any BPEL process recently after which the Oracle BPEL console throws this error, there might be high chance for issues in the deployed BPEL process.
    All deployed BPEL processes will be picked up from the following location. Take backup of the existing processes, delete all entries and then restart SOA service.
    $SOA_Home\bpel\domains\default\tmp ('default' is the default domain name)
    Refer : http://sathyam-soa.blogspot.com/2009/01/oracle-bpel-console-throws-no-domains.html
    Hope this helps!

  • Delete stale instances using BPEL Console

    I want to delete all the stale instances at a time from a particular domain in produciton environment using BPEL console.

    Currently you don't have this option out of box, leaving the users to customize the existing purge script. However, an Enhancement Request has been logged with Oracle DEV Team for the same.

  • Error message when using Spry Data set with XML

    Hi,
    I have what i see as a big problem, might just be me being
    dumm, but here we go.
    When I try to use the feature of spry XML Data Set and insert
    spry table I get error message when trying it in IE 7.
    There are even a problem when I use fireworks automated slide
    show function, where you can choose to use the Spry/XML gallery
    feature.
    The error message I get everytime (incl the auto gallery in
    fireworks) is:
    The tag: "html" doesn't have an attribute: "xmlns:spry" in
    currently active versions.[XHTML 1.0 transitional]
    The tag: "div" doesn't have an attribute: "spry:region" in
    currently active versions.[XHTML 1.0 transitional]
    The tag: "th" doesn't have an attribute: "spry:sort" in
    currently active versions.[XHTML 1.0 transitional]
    and so on.
    What´s wrong?!

    Hello barvid,
    Ok, let's take each problem step by step:
    1. The first error you see in the browser: " Exception while
    loading ..." normally appears when you try to load files that are
    not permitted by the browser security model. This means the XML
    file you try to load is located on a different server than your
    HTML which is not allowed. The browser is not permitting to load
    any files that are not in the same domain as the current page
    because of the complex security risks. You'll have to either get
    the XML file from its original location and save it in your website
    or use a proxy on your web server that should request that file
    from the external server and send it to the browser as an XML from
    the same domain as the HTML origin.
    1.2 The "Exception while loading ..." error you see is a
    generic error and my previous advise is based on my experience. In
    case this is not your scenario you'll have to open the SpryData.js
    and around line 112 you'll see the following code:
    Spry.Debug.reportError("Exception caught while loading " +
    url + ": " + e);
    Please change this line with the following line of code:
    Spry.Debug.reportError("Exception caught while loading " +
    url + ": " + (e.message?e.message:e));
    to obtain a more verbose error message that may clarify the
    reasons of your errors.
    2. The problems you describe are not browser errors but they
    are w3c validation errors. At this point the XHTML standard allows
    every application that define custom namespace attributes to also
    link a DTD to the page so the page to continue to be valid.
    Unfortunately at this point this feature is not correctly supported
    by the FF and IE so we wrote an articles about how you should
    link
    the Spry DTD to your page so the validator understand the
    custom attributes Spry use. You'll find inside the full description
    of the problems and all the technical details you'll need to know
    to solve this issue.
    Regards,
    Cristian

  • How do i use a flash gallery with xml file

    Hi there....
    I am trying to include a flash banner template i have downloaded into my webpage using dreamweaver CS5.
    the template comes with an XML file with it in which you can reference your own images etc..
    I understand how to inclued the Flash object into my webpage by insert-swf- and then navigating to the .swf file...
    what i am having trouble with is understanding how this refereces the XML file in the download pack as i cant find any references to it in the code??
    I am just getting the grey flash box with no images appearing when i hit play etc..
    sorry if this is a really silly question!!
    mart

    If you are using DW to insert the Flash, that could be the problem.  It is not reliable resource in that respect (my opinion, but a shared one). I normally only use Flash to create the code and copy/paste it into my html page.  Did you get an fla file with the set, and do you have Flash?
    What you should do is test the swf file by itself to make sure it works.   Normally you can link directly to the swf file to check that out.  Just type in the url to the swf file and see if it plays.  There may be some other setup required that maybe an accompanying set of instructions might explain.
    Also, if you have a link to the html file you uploaded, providing it here may help in getting things resolved.

    Oracle just uploaded a new release of V2 Parser. It should
    support UTF-16.
    Yet, other utilities still have some problems with UTF-16
    encoding. Seems we just
    have to wait this one out.
    BTW, I'm trying to use Japanese. We, also, have some problems
    with JServer.

    This tells you that you're missing a log4j.properties file in your class path. I'll bet that log4j.jar is in your application class path.

  • Using activecontent.js along with xml

    I am calling a xml file along with my swf. how do i properly
    code when using activecontent.js
    my file location:
    /user/flash.swf?dataSource=file.xml
    I got the noscript correct, but not sure about the script
    part.
    If this belongs in the DW section please move.

    A custom XSQL action handler can do:
    getPageRequest().getPostedDocument()
    to get hold of the posted XML content. There's no other way to reference it as a parameter in a page. You could write a custom action handler that returns the contents of the posted document as a string like this:
    import oracle.xml.xsql.XSQLActionHandlerImpl;
    import oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLNode;
    import org.w3c.dom.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class PostedXML extends XSQLActionHandlerImpl {
    private static final String RESULTELT = "PostedXML";
    public void handleAction(Node root) {
    try {
    Document pd = getPageRequest().getPostedDocument();
    if (pd != null) {
    StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();
    PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(sw);
    ((XMLNode)pd).print(pw);
    addResultElement(root,RESULTELT, sw.toString());
    addResultElement(root,RESULTELT,null);
    catch (Exception e) {
    addResultElement(root,RESULTELT,null);
    }Then when you use the custom action element in an XSQL page like this:
    <xsql:action handler="PostedXML"/>
    Your XSQL data page will end up with:
    <PostedXML>...posted-xml-doc-as-string-here...</PostedXML>

  • Hierarchy tree with XML attributes in jsp

    hi,
    i need to build a hierarchy tree. data(parent and child) should be read from xml file. data is attributes of nodes in xml. i need to write the JSP code for above functionality. please help me. thanks in advance.

    Check this link for further details.
    http://www.dpawson.co.uk/xsl/sect4/N10301.html
    http://www.devx.com/getHelpOn/Article/11874
    The solution is based on XSLT approach. That can be still converted in other server side technologies.

  • Help Needed with XML Attribute Access (Bold/Italics)

    Hi,
    I have a form that displays data in livecycle designer. When someone imports an xml file into the form in Adobe Acrobat it should be able to display some data as bolded and some italicized based on the xml file.
    Here is the sample xml file
    <Table1>
         <Row1>
              <Cell1 style="none">1</Cell1>
              <Cell2 style="bold">2</Cell2>
              <Cell3 style="italics">3</Cell3>
         </Row1>
    </Table1>
    And the output should be:
    1 2 3
    Can someone please help! If the xml file should be designed differently please let me know.
    Thank you!

    Paul,
    Thanks for the help! I tried it out and it worked. One last question please. According to your explanation I added to the xml file the tags
    <body xmlns:xfa="http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-data/1.0/" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xfa:APIVersion="Acroform:2.7.0.0" xfa:spec="2.1">
    <p style="font-weight:bold;">2</p>
    </body>
    do I need to place this body tag around each number or can I place it in one location in the xml file?
    Thanks again.

  • Automatic Generation of classes with required attribute names

    Hi ,
    I am new to XML technologies ...I am having a problem in deciding whether I
    should use JAXB or Castor for data binding.
    The problem is the attributes I am to use are named differently as that found in
    the DTD.I have creted my own classes using the required attribute names and the
    n mapped them using the Castor mapping with the attributes.
    I was wondering how should I achieve --"automatic generation of classes" with th
    e specified attribute names?
    I understand that JAXB can be used to automatically generate classes ,but this
    uses the same default names as that of the XML file ..is there a way of forcing
    JAXB to generate classes that use my name attributes rather than that of the XM
    L dtd
    If I use Castor ..is there a way to do the same.Generate Classes with the specif
