Using BPM in full synchronous scenario

Hi PI Experts,
I'm trying to use a single BPM in a "full synchronous scenario" like this :
-Portal EP call webservice -> SAP PI. This one then execute a BPM with 2 successives steps/calls of Bapis :
-first Bapi call on Backend ECC
-second Bapi call on Backend SRM
-...and then return response message to EP caller
When designing BPM, i can only create variables in container using "Abstract Asynchronous interface"'
=> I don't understand how to design the response message from BPM to EP caller....
Thanks a lot for your help
Best regards
Etienne

Hi,
use Sync/Async bridge in your BPM.
check this blog: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/1403 [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken]
Also check this section from help.sap.com: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/43/65d4dab39b0398e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm
Primary porpose of the bridge is to enable communication between a Synchronously calling system and an Asynchronous system....can also use for Sync <--> Sync communication.
Your BPM design will be:
Receive(Open S/A bridge) --> Send(Sync..ECC) >Send(Sync..SRM)> Transformation --> Send(EP...close bridge)
I mentioned transformation because i suppose that you will get response from both ECC and SRM and hence you will need to map it to a single message structure that you wil send to EP....2:1 Mapping required then..
When designing BPM, i can only create variables in container using "Abstract Asynchronous interface"'
Not only Asynchronous but also Synchronous message interfaces can be used....the only condition is that each and every MI has to be Abstract

Abhishek.

  • PI BPM synchronous scenario

    Hi,
I'm new to PI and have a question about synchronous scenario in PI using BPM.
Basically my scenario is like this.
    RFC1 --> (RFC2 >RFC3>RFC4) --> RFC1.response  (  ( ) means 'inside BPM')
What I'm having difficulty is that I call RFC1 and it needs to get result from RFC4.
I have done asynchronous scenario in BPM but for this case,
everything is synchronous and I don't know how RFC1 can call RFC 2 and get response from RFC4.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    hi,  I have a BPM scenario which have these steps;
    1) write a WS request to txt file
    2) then  a java mappnig(no problem in this step)
    3) call an rfc get the response
    4) write the rfc response to ftp server
    5) if writing ftp is ok return a response else give an alert
    my bpm steps
open s/a bridge- send step asycn(txt)-transformation-send to rfc sycn-send to ftp
I did these, how should I continue?

  • Multiple IDocs to File using BPM

    Hi All,
I have configured a scenario of multiple IDocs to file using BPM.  In this scenario while I am triggering IDoc from R/3 system it is sent to the external program.    I am getting in the status record of WE05 as IDoc is sent to an external system with status code 03. But I am unable to view the same message in moni of the XI system.
Also I have checked the ALE settings on both the sender and receiver side and it is fine.
Also in SM58 nothing is there in queue.
Can anyone solve this issue of mine?
    Cheers,
    Neethu.

    Hi,
in many cases it's a problem with the RFC connection. You should try an authorization test in SM59 of the R/3 system.

  • Bundling of idocs using BPM

    Hi
If you are using BPM to bundle the idocs and send them in file format to target system.............. here we can think of 3 different options on which we can bundle
    1. Payload based
    2. Message based
    3. Time based.
Could you plz confirm me if we can achieve all these 3 options even without BPM in the application system ?? If we can achieve this in the applicaiton system itself ........are there any situations in which we are foced to use BPM for this particular scenario (Bundling of idocs)
    Thanks
    Kumar

    Hi Kumar,
Very simple example which  I had faced....
If you bundle idocs are application level..i.e. by setting XML port to collect idocs you will have multiple Control records i.e. control record for every idoc where as if you bundle them using BPM you can have only one control record. ( which we need most of the time while bundling idocs.)
Also in BPM you can set correlation on payload data. You can have multiple condition here...but at application level you do not get that control. Basically I think you get a control over Payload in BPM and you can play as you want.
Again even at application level if you try to bundle large number of idocs it will give you memory dump ( in sap)..
But bundling idocs at application level is faster process than BPM.

  • Regarding Email alerts Using BPM

    Hi All,
i need to send an Email Alert through using BPM here is the scenario where customer is entering some data which is coming thru Web Service to XI,
    1) so here i have to validate the customer using SQL Database if customer exists then it should proceed further or else it should raise an alert.
2)Once its validated it should go thru another division check from SQL database, Based on the division if we have it as 00 then order should be created in R3 server or if is 10 the it should be created in SQL Server.
3)If no division exists an alert should be raised.
i just need to know the that for this above scenarios how many Alert category should i have to make
                                      or
is it possible to create only one alert category to raise this two Email Alerts pls suggest ...............
    Thnks you

    Hi All,
    Thanks for the quick responces,
I have created all the steps required to send an Alert using the given Above blogs here i am facing some issues like
    1) in properties tab of the BPM were we have a options like Alert Category
    Alert Desception
here my doubt is can i give the same Alert category to the Above two conditions as per my Scenario ABove ie
For Validation Alert & Division Check .
And also here we are using BPM so is it necessary for me to write An java codes for the Above Requriments
Kindly guide me if i am mistaken .

  • Help SOAP to RFC Scenario using BPM (Synchronous communication)

    Hi,
I am doing a scenario from SOAP to RFC scenario(Synchronous communication).  Here I am creating a PM Notification in the SAP system through a webservice.
I am using three BAPI'S here,
    1. BAPI_ALM_NOTIF_CREATE
    2. BAPI_ALM_NOTIF_SAVE
    3. BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT
I am successful in calling the first BAPI from the Web Service.  For this I have not used BPM.  But to commit the transaction(PM notification in this case), I have to execute the other two BAPI's as well.  I have to pass the output of first BAPI to the second BAPI and then execute the 2nd BAPI.  And finally have to execute the 3rd BAPI.     FYI, 3rd BAPI is not dependent on any output.  It has to be executed independently after execution of the first two BAPI's.
How can I execute this scenario?  Do I have  to use BPM?  If yes please let me know the steps in detail.  I have not done any BPM scenario till now.  So please answer me in detail.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Vijay
    p.s. reward points are must

    Hi Vijay,
Yes, You will indeed need a BPM in this case...
Based on my understanding of the Scenario u have explained, here are the steps that would be needed.
    1. Receive With the Sync-Async Bridge open.
    2. Transformation Step (Between the source Request and The BAPI_ALM_NOTIF_CREATE Request)
    3. Send Synchronous
    4. Fork
    5. In one Branch of the fork - Transformation (Between the BAPI_ALM_NOTIF_CREATE Response and API_ALM_NOTIF_SAVE Request)
    6. In the other branch of the fork - Transformation (Between a Dummy Source and the BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT Request)
    7. Send Synchronous (to make the 2nd BAPI Call)
    6. Transformation ( BAPI_ALM_NOTIF_SAVE Response and the source Response)
    7. Send Asynchronous (to make the 3rd BAPI call)
    8. Send the Source Response and close the Sync-Async Bridge.
There might be alternative ways also of doing it...
Also a better design would be to take care of the 2nd and the 3rd BAPI call within the code of the 1st RFC Function Module.

  • JMS to Synchronous Web Service Scenario (Need Advice to use BPM or Not)

    Hi Experts,
We have a scenario where we fetch data from JMS Sender and Send it to MDM Webservices.
We want to have the files processed in such a way that until we get a response from webservice back that it was sucessful ,then only we need to process the next file.
We would need advice as can we use BPM for this.
We are thinking of having BPM like this:
    RecieveStep(Asyn)-SynchronousSend Step(with wait)-Stop
The problem with this is when processing huge files the processing time of the Queue is taking very long and sometimes we are getting SYSFAIL.
Please would anyone advice as how can we approach this scenario either using BPM or without.
Also Can we use multiple queues or multpile instances concept for this scenario.
    Please Advice.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards
    J

    Hi Prateek,
Thank you very much for your quick reply.
The response from Webservice does not need to be sent anywhere.
We just want that after recieving the response back from webservice(SOAP) then only we need to process the next file.
Can we control something from Sender JMS adapter side as well as it is picking up all the files and all files wait at BPE until each one gets processed.
Is this possible without BPM or with BPM.
Please advice as what wud be possible steps inorder to achive it through BPM or Without BPM.
    Thanks and Regards,
    J

  • File to IDOC Scenario using BPM

    Hi Experts,
I am working on file-Bapi-Idoc scenario using BPM.
        I have two conditions
    1. If the Sonumber is populated then need trigger an Bapi_change
2.If the Sonumber is not populated from the file then need to trigger a Bapi_Createfromdat to create the sales order and receive the salesorder number as response from Bapi
and the response of these BAPIs should be validated whether the Bapi is successful or not.
If it is successful message then need to trigger IDOC or else should throw an alert message.
let me know the steps involved in this scenario.
can i send alert message to other email IDs or can i send it to only XI admin?
Please let me know u r inputs.
    Thanks in advance
    Praveen

    Hey,
You need to have a BPM for this.
    BPM design.
Recieve step(abstract asynchronous) for file structure
Switch Case(condition whether sonumber is populated or not)
    if populated
    Branch 1(of switch)
transforamtion step:- mapping between File and Bapi_Change(Request structure)
Send step(abstract syncronous) To send the BAPI_change
    Branch 2(of switch)
transformation step:-mapping between file and BApi_Create
Send step(abstract synchronous) To send the BAPI_Create
Block step(which will include the Switch step)
trigger an Execption in case of an error(in any of the two branches) through the block
The Exception will trigger an alert.
Now after the Block step there will be a transformation step(which will have the mapping between RFC response and Idoc)
Next is the send step(abstract asynchronous) for the idoc
In case if there is no exception the Idoc will be triggered or the exception branch will trigger the alert
    rewards points if useful

  • IDoc to soap synchronous scenario with BPM

    Hi,
I am working on IDoc to soap synchronous scenario using BPM. Here i am facing lot of soap exceptions in my production system. I handled the exceptions. The data getting excuted for the first time, the same data(just changed the description)is giving exceptions for the second time. Please let me know why the exceptions are getting, and different type of exceptions and solutions for the same.(Blog also is fine)
    Thanks & Regards,
    Pragathi.

The data getting excuted for the first time, the same data(just changed the description)is giving exceptions for the second
    time.
Ideally you should not get an exception for the same data....can you tell is the description and where are you getting the exception...is it a part of the SOAP message or some object?
An exception might have occured because the description would be something unacceptable by the target application.
and different type of exceptions and solutions for the same
there would be many blogs....your thread would be spammed...better make a search on SDN with exception text that you are getting.

  • Problem with File RFC File scenario without using BPM

    Hi all,
I am trying a File RFC File scenario without using BPM with the help of the following thread:
File - RFC - File without a BPM - Possible from SP 19.
The XI system is PI 7.0 sp 12. When I am trying to acheive the above scenario, I am getting wierd results i.e., when I observe in SXI_MONITOR, the message is showing as processed successfully, but when I watch the message status in communication channel monitoring, I am getting the following error:
"Attempt to process file failed with com.sap.aii.af.service.cpa.CPAException: Couldn't retrieve inbound binding for the given P/S/A values: FP=;TP=;FS=DEV120;TS=Test_Service;AN=MI_Invoice;ANS=urn:sap.com:test;"
I am not able to understand what the problem is. By the way, one more thing, is, I have kept the File processing mode as "Delete" in the sender file adapter. But the file is not getting deleted. I think the reason could be because of the above error.
Can any body help me out in getting my problem resolved?

  • Synchronous scenario using receiver mail adapter

    Hi All,
I am trying to do a Http to Mail synchronous scenario. My requirement is, if the mail has been delivered to the reciver mail server, it should send an acknowledgement/response back to XI. Simlarly when it fails to deliver the message it should send an acknowledgement/response back to XI.

using this method a delivery ack mail is send to the TO address as rightly pointed out.
Now senthil, if you want to you can have a mail sender adapter polling for mails and you can maybe correlate the To address using a BPM and then recognize this to be a delivery ack for the mail you send. Its not concrete as maybe a delivery ack might say it was not successfully delivered too so then you might have to enhance your logic to check the content to see what the mail is all about. Pheww ....
Doesnt seem right.. so I gather the best is to redesign the interface if the flexibility is in your hands.
Other option is to have a acknowledgment request in your Send step of the BPM

  • RFC Scenario using BPM

I did whatever mentioned in that blog(/people/arpit.seth/blog/2005/06/27/rfc-scenario-using-bpm--starter-kit). Also I do have some experience in BPM.
After testing I don't see the file inthe outbound directory. So I started analysing from all sides.
    1. First checked the message in my sxi_monitor, it black and white flag showed that the message processed successfully.
    2. I opened the message and saw the message from CENTRAL Client passed to PE ADAPTER Client with tooltip showing "Transfer to Process engine".
    1. First I checked whether my BPM is correct by pressing F7. There is no syntax error.
    2. I checked in sx_cache, the ReturnCode was 0.
    3. In smq2 I saw a message stuck in the PE queue. I double clicked the queue and saw the status text as "Permanent error in BPE inbound processing".  So I kept debugging by pressing F8 and after that the message got disappeared.
    4. I opened the message in sxi_monitor, and after the CENTRAL Client the message passed to PE ADAPTER, which measn the meesage has got transferred to process engine. But i'm not seeing any change in the file.
    5. Also what I      did was use transaction SXMB_MONI and chose process radio button and execute. Located my message but there is no task value which starts with 'WS..' in Process def column.
Can you please pinpoint where i went wrong and anything else?
One more thing, everytime i test the new file the file goes and gets stuck in the queue and I have got to follow the item 3 mentioned above.
    Thanks,

Hi Kishore,  The second block is a synchronous send block in the BPM triggers the call to RFC.  I've done it as per the blog.  There is no transformation step in the BPM.  Anyway I fixed the issue. In the receive block whatever container value I used should be used in the send block also. Earlier I was getting some warning. Now my BPM is clean and it worked.
Lesson learnt: Ensure there is no warning in the BPM. Thanks again Kishore.
