Using different oracle inventories

Hi all,
We have oracle 10.2.0.4 single instance database installed on IBM AIX 7.1 machine. Now we want to install 11.2.0.3 database on the same machine but with different oracle inventory. But i am not sure how /etc/oraInst.loc is updated if i use more than one oracle inventory in the same machine.
Please suggest.
Thanks,
Sandy

You can use different Oracle inventories. What you will need to to is to modify the contents of /etc/oraInst.loc to point to the appropriate inventory when performing any maintenance activities (patching, upgrades etc).

  • How to make Oracle Developer Suite use different Oracle client version

    Hello,
    I have installed Oracle Developer Suite 10g (9.0.4) on Win7 32bit
    When I run Oracle Forms or Oracle Reports or any DB tool (like SQL Navigator or PL/SQL Developer) and trying to connect to remote Oracle DB 10g (10.2.0.5.0) I get an error ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION.
    Then I've installed Oracle Instant Client 10.1.0.4.0 and made DB tools use this client and error was gone, but I still get that error using Forms and Reports.
    So my qustion is, can I make Oracle Forms and Reports use any other Oracle Client but that was installed with Oracle Developer Suite? Or any other suggestions are welcome how to fix connection issue in Forms and Reports?
    I have read many threads and some suggested to set NLS_LANG. Done that, but it didn't help :(

    The better question is why are you trying to use an obsolete Oracle product on such a new OS and expecting it to work properly? Are you also using MS Office 95 on this machine? Attempting to hack a solution is fine if you are just learning to use a product or just playing around. However, I would never recommend attempting to do what you are doing.
    Oracle Forms 9.x was desupported years ago, long before Windows 7 was released. Trying to use it in this manner is risky at best and not something that should be done in a professional environment. If you are a student or just home user trying to learn on your own, I would recommend that you use a virtualization product like Oracle Virtual Box and create a vm of an older OS. For example XP, then install on that platform. If you are a licensed user of Win 7 Pro or higher, I believe Microsoft is still giving away (for free) "XP Mode". Details here:

    Hello,
    We want to create a replication in our laptop.

    Can we replicate part of the database using different Oracle DBMS versions?

    I'm having some issues using some Oracle drivers versions in different applications that use different Oracle versions (8 and 9), is there a way to define for one Connection Pool one version and for another a different one but still have XA support?

    Thanks,
    JohannHi, nope. The whole JVM will only load one version of a given class.
    I would do everything you need to do to use the 10.2.0.3 thin
    driver in all cases.

  • Can we use different Databases (Oracle & SQL Server) in one report?

    Post Author: venki5star
    CA Forum: .NET
    Hi there.
    Can we use different databases (Oracle & SQL Server) in a same report?
    If possible how?
    Another question,
    Can we change the Provider Name at runtime of the given report. If so the above question is useless...
    Thanks in Advance.

    I tried this using Oracle Provider for OLEDB (the one that supplied by Oracle Client) and Crystal Reports 9. you can drag the column into designer but the image does not appear in preview.
    I guess it's because CR does not recognized it as image, and there are no information that the blob data is an image at all.

  • How do you join two tables from different Oracle schemas using a subquery

    I am trying to join two tables from different Oracle schemas using a subquery. I can extract data from each of the tables without a problem. However, when I combine the select statements using a subquery I get the Oracle error *'ORA-00936: missing expression'*. Since each SELECT statement executes on its own without error I don't understand what is missing. The result set I am trying to get is to match up the LINE_ID from PDTABLE_12_1 in schema DD_12809 with the MAT_DESCRIPTION from table PDTABLE_201 in schema RA_12809.
    The query is as follows:
    sql = "SELECT [DD_12809].[PDTABLE_12_1].LINE_ID FROM [DD_12809].[PDTABLE_12_1] JOIN " _
    + "(SELECT [RA_12809].[PDTABLE_201].MAT_DESCRIPTION " _
    + "FROM [RA_12809].[PDTABLE_201]) AS FAB " _
    + "ON [DD_12809].[PDTABLE_12_1].PIPING_MATER_CLASS = FAB.PIPING_MATER_CLASS"
    The format of the query is copied from a SQL programming manual.
    I also tried executing the query using a straight JOIN on the two tables but got the same results. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
    Edited by: user11338343 on Oct 19, 2009 6:55 AM

    I believe you are receiving the error because you are trying to JOIN on a column that doesn't exist. For example you are trying to join on FAB.PIPING_MATER_CLASS but that column does not exist in the subquery.
    If you want to do a straight join without a subquery you could do the following
    SELECT  DD_12809.PDTABLE_12_1.LINE_ID
    ,       FAB.MAT_DESCRIPTION
    FROM    DD_12809.PDTABLE_12_1
    JOIN    RA_12809.PDTABLE_201    AS FAB ON DD_12809.PDTABLE_12_1.PIPING_MATER_CLASS = FAB.PIPING_MATER_CLASS  HTH!

  • XML Publisher Bursting using different locale settings

    Hi,
    I have a report that shows numeric fields in different format mask if I select different template each time while submitting request. One template file's language is English and its territory is United States. Other template file's language is German and its territory is Germany. English template shows number like 1,500.94 ( "," comma as digit grouping symbol and "." period as decimal symbol) which is fine. German template shows 1.500,94 ( "." period as digit grouping symbol and "," comma as decimal symbol). So everything is great for me until I am using XML Bursting. Even if I specified german templates in bursting control file the output pdf file shows numeric character like English template. (e.g  1,500.94).
    Example of bursting control file
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xapi:requestset xmlns:xapi="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/xapi" type="bursting">
    <xapi:request select="/">
    <xapi:delivery>
    <xapi:filesystem id="file1" output="${DEST_PATH}.pdf"/>
    </xapi:delivery>
    <xapi:document output-type="pdf" delivery="file1">
    <xapi:template type="rtf" location="xdo://XXCO.XXCO_INVOICE.de.DE/?getSource=true" filter="" >    --->  It gives same output  with en.US
    </xapi:template>
    </xapi:document>
    </xapi:request>
    </xapi:requestset>
    Has anyone got any idea what is going on when bursting take care of generating PDF file again after the report is completed ?  Could you please help on this issue ? I will be grateful if I solve this problem. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ugur

    Hi,
    I have solved this issue by using <?xdoxslt:xdo-format-number, '999G990D00', 'da-DK')?> in every number fields instead of using different template file with danish language. Bursting also correctly shows number I wanted to be after this changes. So don't bother using different template file in order to show different digit grouping and decimal symbol. It's very simple this way except page total and carried forward totals. I choose number-separators=',.' option in xdofo:show-carry-forward tags.

  • How to host one application using different database connection on OAS?

    Hi,
    Jdeveloper - 10.1.3.4
    Application - ADF/BC
    Oracle Application Server - 10.1.3
    Above our the specifications for our application,
    We have two database schemas different for development and production therfore we have different databse connections for the two,
    we have one application which is in production and enhacements on the same application are done by the development team.
    Since we have two different schemas for developement and prduction we use different database connections for the application on development and production.
    The problem is our Model and View Controller project are same, only the database connection file changes that's why we are able to host only on application at a time on our OAS. This is probably because the URL generated by OAS for developemnt and prodyction application is same.
    Is there a way we can host two instances of the same application with two different database connections on the a single OAS.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Raksha

    Use different deployment profiles each with a different context root for your application?

  • What XA JDBC driver should I use with Oracle 8i 8.1.6

    I need to use an XA JDBC driver for Oracle 8i 8.1.6. I am using the driver in
    a ConnectionPool in a TxDataSource for use by some entity beans using EJB 2.0.
    I'm running WebLogic Server 6.0 sp2, EJB 2.0, Java 2 SDK 1.3.1 Server VM, Solaris
    2.7, and Oracle 8i 8.1.6.
    I know of three different Oracle XA drivers: WebLogic jDriver for Oracle XA, Oracle
    OCI type 2 driver XA, and Oracle Thin tyoe 2 XA. Are there any other drivers
    that I can use for Oracle 8.1.6? Which driver and which version should I use?
    For example, can I use the Oracle 8.1.7 JDBC drivers with the Oracle 8.1.6 server,
    or would the Oracle 9i drivers work with the Oracle 8i server? Which drivers
    are faster, and which support more features? I assume that I should not use the
    type 4 driver since I am not using an applet, but I don't know if there are bugs
    in the OCI C library for Solaris or in the JDBC drivers that use it that prevent
    XA from woking. Which version of the Oracle C OCI library should I use if I use
    a type 2 driver?
    Thanks,
    Ross Goldberg

    Hi,
    I think you can't use the 8.1.6 thin driver for XA, you would have to
    use the OCI driver or 2PC-enable your datasource. AFAIK this has been
    changed for 8.1.7
    Check http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/////jta/thirdpartytx.html.

    I've asked this question before. This is the reply from Joe
    Weinstein:
    For reliability and JDBC 2.0 compliance, I recommend the
    Oracle thin driver.
    If not that driver, you should verify that a type-2 driver
    actually does
    deliver better performance, but then I would not have a
    strong preference
    between their type-2 and ours. Theirs may be faster, and JDBC
    2.0 compliant.
    Both are succeptible to OCI bugs, some of which only they can
    fix, but we
    listen.

  • Getting exception using 11G oracle driver

    upgraded oracle database from 10G to 11G, and I made the following changes in my application for 11G:

  • Index not being used in Oracle 11g

    Hi,
    I executed an SQL in Oracle 9i based on a Materialized View with an index. Execution plan shows it used Index and did Range scan. But the same query if I executed in Oracle 11g, it did full table scan and ignored the index. Finally, I used /*+Index*/ hint to tell compiler to use the index. Can anyone tell why it happended like this.
    below is the query.

    Yes, it is possible.

    ) order by dbms_random.value(0,100);
    create index test_ix on test(l);

    The only difference is records order in the table.
    In the first case CBO decided that index range scan would be reasonable.
    In the second case CBO preferred FTS as less costly.

  • Use of oracle.jdbc.driver now deprecated.

    Hi all,
    Just thought of sharing this note with us.,(if its new ..)
    http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle9i/doc_library/901_doc/java.901/a90211/overvw.htm#1008871
    Extract ...,
    Beginning in Oracle9i, the Oracle extensions to JDBC are captured in the package oracle.jdbc. This package contains classes and interfaces that specify the
    Oracle extensions in a manner similar to the way the classes and interfaces in java.sql specify the public JDBC API.
    Your code should use the package oracle.jdbc instead of the package oracle.jdbc.driver used in earlier versions of Oracle. Use of the package
    oracle.jdbc.driver is now deprecated, but will continue to be supported for backwards compatibility.
    All that is required to covert your code is to replace "oracle.jdbc.driver" with "oracle.jdbc" in the source and recompile. This cannot be done piece-wise.
    You must convert all classes and interfaces that are referenced by an application. Conversion is not required, but is highly recommended. Future releases of Oracle
    may have features that are incompatible with use of the package oracle.jdbc.driver.
    The purpose of this change is to enable the Oracle JDBC drivers to have multiple implementations. In all releases up to and including Oracle9i, all of the Oracle
    JDBC drivers have used the same top level implementation classes, the classes in the package oracle.jdbc.driver. By converting your code to use
    oracle.jdbc, you will be able to take advantage of future enhancements that use different implementation classes. There are no such enhancements in Oracle9i, but
    there are plans for such enhancements in the future.
    Regards
    Elango.

    The two main things that would have to change
    - driver : com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
    - url: jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433
    It may be that this page will help you
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/learning/jdbc/
    You also need to make sure that the files Msbase.jar , Msutil.jar and Mssqlserver.jar are all available in the "classpath"
    For a web app, that means these files should be in the WEB-INF/lib directory.
    Good luck,

  • URGENT HELP!!. Applying 8.1.7.4 patch in different Oracle Homes.

    Hi all,
    We are using 8.1.7.0 on SunSolaris OS(5). We've 4 oracle instances running on 817 and one on 8174. They are all in different oracle homes.
    Oraclehome1 - 8170
    Oraclehome2 - 8174
    When I tried to put 8174 patch on Oraclehome1 the installation terminates without installing the software and its not giving any errors. In oracInventory logs it displays the following version numbers.
    8.1.7.4 > 8.1.7.4
    I also tried to reinstall full software on Oraclehome1. It is also failing with link errors.
    How can I install 8174 patch in oraclehome1? OR how can upgrade the oracle instance under oraclehome1 to 8174?
    Thanks for any inputs.
    Regards

    Yes I did shutdown the database and stopped all other services running on the machine.

  • Dbms_crypto - avoid error when using different key in lower environment

    Hello Experts,
    We are using Oracle 11.2.0.2. We are planning to implement dbms_crypto to encrypt few columns. We clone the data from production to lower environment ( DEV, QC).
    For the lower environments, we do not want to get the sensitive data from production and do not plan to use same key. Rather than getting an error when using differnt key, is it possible to get a different resultset back.
    In other words, we want the implementation to be same across environments but want to use a diffent key in lower environment and get different result (or garbage).
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    While testing this logic, I am getting following error when using differnt key to decrypt. It works fine if I use same key.
