Using 'exp' from Oracle 8i Lite
I want to dump an Oracle 8i Lite database to a binary dump file so that I may import it into a Oracle 8i production database. Can I do this using the exp80.exe program in the \ORAWIN95\BIN directory? If so, what is the correct command line to carry out this?
I have tried:
EXP80 system/manager@ODBC:POLITE FILE=C:\POLITE.DMP
and I get a Oracle Error 942 encountered.
Am i on the correct track?
Thanks

based on your nsl parameter settings, we can see that both databases use the same characterset. so, characterset conversion should not take place. the reason why you are facing these warnings is due to environment variables.
you should set NLS_LANG environment variables both before exporting and importing. Then warnings should disappear. For example, in your case you can set NLS_LANG=.WE8ISO8859P1 (please note that I have omitted language and territory parts here)
Try setting enviroment variables and then perform export and import again.

ODSI service using function from oracle database
Hi ,
I need to create a ODSI service using function from oracle database.
I am not sure how to create a Physical Layer and Logical Layer using the function fron db.
Kindly provide a sample . I need It ASAP. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
TaraHere's what you do.
Create New Physical Data Service -> Relational -> MyDataSource -> Table -> SomeTable ... finish the wizard.
So now you have a Physical Data Service that represents a database table.
Create New Physcial Data Service -> Relational -> MyDataSource (the same one as above) -> Database Function -> Enter UPPER for the Function name, enter MyUpper fro the XQuery Function. Finish the Wizard (use something like MyUpperDs for the ds name).
Open MyUpperDs. Right-click -> Edit Signature on MyUpper. Change the ReturnType to string, change the Occurrence to Zero or One.
Add a parameter, change the Type to string, change the Occurrence to Zero or One.
Save.
Now, open the first ds you made SomeTable.ds (whatever). Run it in the test view.
Go to the Overview tab. Create New Operation. Give it the name SOMETABLE_UPPER. Save it.
Go to the Query Map tab, open SOMETABLE_UPPER. Drag and drop SOMETABLE (the system-generated function into the mapper. It will show a dotted line from SOMETABLE to the Return. Now drag-and-drop the SOMETABLE to the top-level element of the return type, it will show solid lines from each element in SOMETABLE to each element in the return type.
Now, drag-and-drop MyUpperDs.MyUpper into the Query Mapper. Edit the source, find where it added the line "for $x in myd:MyUpper()" and delete that line.
Change a line that simply returns a value to use your function, for example, change
<FIRST_NAME>{fn:data($CUSTOMER/FIRST_NAME)}</FIRST_NAME>
to
<FIRST_NAME>{myd:MyUpper(fn:data($CUSTOMER/FIRST_NAME))}</FIRST_NAME>
Click on the Plan tab and Show Query Plan. You will see that in the query plan, it is using the database UPPER function where you specified MyUpper.
Go to the Test View and run it.

Tnsping timed out using dg4odbc from Oracle to MYSQL through ODBC
Hi,
I encountered problem when trying to connect from Oracle to MYSQL using dg4odbc, hope you can shed some light
Oracle database is 11.1.0.7 on SUSE Linux 64-bit.
Since the application which runs on MYSQL DB only offers ODBC driver on Windows platform, so I installed the 32-bit ODBC driver (from ServiceNow) on a 32-bit windows server (driver download from http://wiki.service-now.com/index.php?title=ODBC_Driver) .
created system DSN: MYSQLDEV, The DSN connection works fine. I then installed Oracle 11.2.0.1 gateway for ODBC 32-bit on the same windows server, the following configurations were done:
On 32-bit Windows server:

if listener is not listening to the service, then the tnsping on the windows server should fail as well.
I don't know why only the tnsping from Linux failed, is it due to the 32-bit ODBC uncompatibility with 64-bit oracle server? or my configuration problem?
Of course, when I created the DB link from oracle, the connection failed with
create database link mysqldev connect to xxxx identified by "xxxxx" using 'jelly';
Database link created.

Create XML using data from Oracle
Other than using OracleXMLQuery, how do I create an XML file from the data from a table in Oracle?
Rgds,
SeeteshVetsrini:
Thanks for your response. I no longer can receive email at [email protected], because I am at a different company now. So please post directly to this forum so I can receive my messages.
I would imagine that "look ahead" is a feature needed by many applications, since the heading of a document may depend on the data within. In my case, we have a Pack Slip that we want the bold heading title to change if the word "FAX" is inside the body of the document. Instead of saying "Pack Slip", it would say "Fax Pack Slip".
Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Using FOP from Oracle PL/SQL
Hello,
I'm trying to use Oracle XML DB features in order to get a PDF document and Apache FOP is a very good tool.
Can anybody give some code example about FOP from an oracle database (10g) ??
Thanks...
LionelYou're probably behind a firewall and need to set a proxy server in the database.
You can do this by adding the following code (of course before you make a call to the SOAP request)
utl_http.set_proxy('yourproxy.yourcompany.com', NULL); -
Using OCI from Oracle 12 to connect to an Oracle 10 server instance
Can I use the newest Instant Client of Oracle 12 to connect to an Oracle 10.2.0.5 server instance?
For at least the last decade OCI has always been backward compatible like that. I expect it will work.

Oracle 8i Lite - OO4O and other Questions
1.) Can OO4O (Oracle Objects for OLE) be used with the Oracle 8i Lite database ?
2.) Does Oracle 8i Lite operate as a "client/server" database ?
3.) Is it possible to have multi-user access to Oracle 8i Lite ?
4.) Is there documentation somewhere that lists all of the limitations with 8i Lite as compared to 8i ?
We are in the planning stages of a partial mobile system, and want to know how much difference in development efforts for the 2 platforms (Oracle 8i on Win 2000 server and Oracle 8i Lite on NT/98/95 Laptops).
Any information on Oracle 8i Lite would be appreciated. -- Especially need an answer to question 1 right now.
Thanks,
PaulaHi,
I am qouting below from the oracle 8i Lite documentation which says it supports triggers . Please clarify.
Oracle Lite DBMS
Oracle Lite DBMS is a lightweight (50KB - 750KB), Java enabled database designed from the ground up for laptops, handheld computers, PDAs and smartphones. It supports industry standard ODBC, JDBC, SQLJ, and Java Stored Procedures and Triggers. It provides a streaming fast "C" interface, OKAPI, to its object kernel. It also supports Java Access Classes, JAC, a fast and easy way to make Java Objects persistent. Oracle Lite DBMS now supports all popular mobile platforms, including Palm OS, EPOC, and Windows CE, letting you deploy enterprise applications on virtually any mobile device.

Hi Wizards
I'm in an endeavour to do the following things -
1.Generate XML output from Oracle 8i Lite database
2.Modify the XML and update the database taking the modified XML.
My java platform is JDK 1.2. I've used the XML SQL Utility for Java, and in doing so i've been successful with the 1st step. I've used the Oracle 8.1.6SDK JDBC Driver which is compatible with JDK 2.The code fragment is like the following -
import java.io.*;
import java.sql.*;
import java.math.*;
import oracle.xml.sql.query.*;
import oracle.jdbc.*;
import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
public class orasql1
public static void main(String args[]) throws SQLException
Connection conn = null;
String tabName = "emp";
try {
Class.forName("oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver");
conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:Polite:POlite", "SYSTEM", "manager");
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println("Oracle Connection error\t:");
System.out.println(e);
System.exit(0);
OracleXMLQuery qry = new OracleXMLQuery(conn, "select * from " + tabName);
qry.setRowsetTag("SCHEMADOC_1");
qry.setRowTag("EMPLOYEE");
qry.setStyleSheet("emp.xsl");
String xmlString = qry.getXMLString(true);
conn.close();
try {
File output = new File("emp.xml");
FileWriter xmlFile = new FileWriter(output);
xmlFile.write(xmlString,0,xmlString.length());
xmlFile.close();
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println("Output file error\t:");
System.out.println(e);
System.exit(0);
I am putting some sample code for step 2 in the following section -
import oracle.xml.sql.dml.*;
import java.sql.*;
import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
import oracle.jdbc.*;
import java.net.*;
public class orasql2
public static void main(String args[]) throws SQLException
Connection conn = null;
String tabName = "emp";
String fileName = "emp.xml";
try {
Class.forName("oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver");
conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:Polite:POlite", "SYSTEM", "manager");
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println("An error has occurred.");
System.out.println("Please check your CLASSPATH variable..");
System.out.println(e);
System.exit(0);
OracleXMLSave save = new OracleXMLSave(conn, tabName);
URL url = save.createURL(fileName);
save.setRowTag("SCHEMADOC_1");
int rowCount = save.insertXML(url);
System.out.println("Successfully inserted "+rowCount+" rows into "+tabName);
conn.close();
Compiling the above code is fine, no errors! But while running the application I get the error -
Exception in thread "main" oracle.xml.sql.OracleXMLSQLException: java.lang.Class
CastException: oracle.lite.poljdbc.OracleStatement
at oracle.xml.sql.dml.OracleXMLSave.insertXML(OracleXMLSave.java:345)
at oracle.xml.sql.dml.OracleXMLSave.insertXML(OracleXMLSave.java:248)
at orasql2.main(orasql2.java:27)
My question is whether this thing can be done at all using Oracle 8i Lite? If so then how?
Waiting for ur advices.
Biplab
(An Indian, but at present in Houston, Texas)It looks like be a classpath issue. Would you check with the class name.

Oracle 8i Lite - SQLPlus 8.0 Connect
I am running Windows 98 and Oracle8i Lite. I have been trying to launch SQLPlus 8.0 from Oracle 8i Lite. I typed SCOTT for a username and TIGER for a password, but I could not figure out what I am supposed to type for the HOST STRING. I researched the on-line documentation that came with the software, but the documentation does not have adequate explanation; it is too general to be helpful. I am not interested in getting connected to any external databse. I am just trying to obtain the SQL prompt SQL>. I would appreciate it if anyone could provide me with suggestions on how to resolve this problem.
Thanks!
nullI am using Windows 2000 Professional and I am experiencing the same problem. I can connect to the POLITE database from Oracle8 Navigator and Oracle ODBC 32bit Test but not from SQL*Plus. Here is what I see:

Oracle Lite ORDBMS 4.0.1.0.7

Server not available or version too low for this feature
Connected.
SQL> connect system/mgr

Should I try to upgrade my Open Client Adapater (OCA)? Could it be something with my PATH? How can I set up the default TNS to connect to POLITE? Any suggestions?

George,
Try the following host string: ODBC:POLITE
Lite typically uses the SID of POLite for installation of the default database, so this host string should do the trick. If not, drop me an email and we'll work through it together.
Hope this helps!

Does Oracle 9i Lite supports Thai language?
We are developing mobile application[residing in a laptop] using java and Oracle 9i lite version [Release 5.0.2]. The application has English and Thai version. After we upload all the data[thai and english phrases] to Oracle lite from server [residing in Sun Solaris, Oracle 91] we were able to see the Thai characters in mobile, but for some phrases there is an extra English character amended to the phrase. We are not doing any char conversion here, just collecting the data from server and inserting to lite version DB.
Entries in polite.ini are,
[All Databases]
DatabaseID=501
DataDirectory=C:\oracle\ora90\Mobile\Sdk\OLDB40
NLS_LOCALE=ENGLISH
MessageFile=C:\oracle\ora90\Mobile\Sdk\BIN\OLITE40.MSB
DBCharEncoding=Native
When i ran through the release document for Oracle9i Lite Release 5.0.2, i can relalize that it is not supporting Thai language. Correct me if i am wrong.
Did any of the latest Lite version supports Thai language. How about 10g? Or any alternatives is there in Release 5.0.2 itself.
Thanks and looking forward for your reply.
Best Regards,
MuthuHello,
I am not sure to understand your question.
Oracle Lite is a SQL Database , and you can access it from Oracle Application Server using the correct JDBC driver and then use the JSP Tag libs to access the data (JSTL SQL) or any JDBC API in J2EE.
If I am not answering your question please add more details about what you are trying to achieve...

Deploying jar file in Oracle 9i lite SDK
Hi,
I have packaged my application into a jar file. How can I deploy it in my development environment. I want to use it with Oracle 9i Lite webtogo SDK.
Thanx,
JEJE
I am not sure why do you want to deploy in SDK after publishing and synchronising the same, if I understand your question correctly.
Let me tell you how we are doing.
1) create the jar files(application) using wtgpack.exe and publish it.
2) This jar may not contain the java business objects etc other than database objects, some files.
3) Synchronize the database. Get the Lite database(ODB file).
4) if you have any stored procedures(upload it now by running batch files or by any means)
5) Deploy your Java objects(Java beans,JSPs,servlets etc) in your app server(Tomcat or OC4J). Run the application as we do against Oracle enterprise.

I have two servers one using oracle 8i and the other 10G. Firstly i have exported the file from oracle 8i using exp command. Im trying to import the file into 10G , Although this takes place successfully the character set conversion takes place please see the output below

I'm not able figure out why a conversion is taking place even though the same character set is used in 10G.
I would be greatful to you guys if can suggest a way to avoid this conversion as i fear data will be affected kindly need your suggestions for the same and thank you.
Regards
Parikshitbased on your nsl parameter settings, we can see that both databases use the same characterset. so, characterset conversion should not take place. the reason why you are facing these warnings is due to environment variables.
you should set NLS_LANG environment variables both before exporting and importing. Then warnings should disappear. For example, in your case you can set NLS_LANG=.WE8ISO8859P1 (please note that I have omitted language and territory parts here)
Try setting enviroment variables and then perform export and import again. -
Oracle 9i Lite : Unable to Syncronization from Offline mode
Hi All,
I am using Oracle 9i Lite and Web-to-Go with it. I am getting a syncronization problem i.e. When ever an offline user tries to synchronize with the server an error page is being displayed . But that user is able to log in online mode without any errors.
Can anybody please help me.
thanks in advance
karthik prDear Friends,
I would like to know about Transaction Manager of Oracle 9i Lite. From where, I can get resources.
Thanks
Regards
Seetha I've never heard of a Transaction Manager for 9i Lite. The principal components are a client, WTG (WebToGo), MGP (Message Propagator) and an Enterprise Edition rdbms 8.1.7 or greater.

Using exp/imp to clone a database from Solaris to NT
Hi All,
We have an 8.1.6 Oracle database in production under Sun Solaris.
We actually use this database to run Siebel CRM system.
We have a Windows NT server which we used as a QA system
for this application.
We have a daily full export of our production database on the
Sun machine. Now my manager wants to import this production
dmp file into this Win NT database on a weekly basis.
The goal here is to maintain the state of this NT database
as much functional and close to the production one as possible.
I would appreciate your help on this.
I have some other general question:
in which case can the Oracle imp utility be run in the
full=y mode ?
does this make any sense at all ?
since the Oracle import utility does not delete
any existing objects before it imports, these objects
should be deleted manually and that's what I do
with all Siebel users schemas; of course I do not
do this with SYS, SYSTEM and other special Oracle
users; question: are there any objects in these
special Oracle schemas that have to be carried over from
the source database to the target database to
make the rest of the schemas functional ?
Somehow I failed to find Oracle documentation on how
to use exp/imp to create a complete clone of an Oracle
database.
Can direct path be used with full=y export/import mode ?
Thank you in advance,
Yuriy.As an alternative to using daily/weekly exports and imports, what would probably be more effective here would be replication. The databases could synch on a nightly basis and updated tables and rows will be transferred from your OLTP system to your read-only system. More information can be found on replication from "Oracle8i DBA Handbook" by Kevin Loney and Marlene Therialt.

Step by Step EXP / IMP database from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g
Please help on the captioned where I did the below
1. Use EXP to export the database from a Oracle9i database (O9_DB) OLD_Windows2003_SERVER
2. Install the Oracle 11g (default service name is ORCL) to a new Windows 2003 server and use the IMP to import the O9_DB, however, I need to create the same physical path as the OLD_Windows2003_SERVER (e.g E:\Oralce_9i\Ordata\) in order to complete the IMP
3. I can launch the SQL Developer and obtain the records count of evey tables being imported
However, is there any best / proper way to do the EXP/IMP, the ideal outcome would be
1. Create a new namespace say (OLDDB) which same as the Oracle9i database name so maybe I don't need to modify much on the application side to point to the new database ?
2. IMP the OLDDB to the new namespace OLDDB
Thanks in advanceHello,
If you create the new Database on a new Server, you could keep the same name for the Database.
To switch from the old Database to the new one, you'll have to change the hostname on the "tnsnames.ora" or in any configuration file which define the database connexion.
About the best way to do the Export/Import, you may have some details on the link below:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10819/expimp.htm#i262317
Else, why do you intend to stay on a Windows 2003 Server, why not moving to Windows 2008 ?
NB: Oracle *11.1* is certified on Windows 2008 and Oracle *11.2* is certified on Windows 2008 R2.
Hope this help.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin
