Using fullscreen

I am looking to transfer an old java application to run using the fullscreen api - currently I have got the application to show fullscreen without all the usual adornments and it generally works alright. The problem is that it is largely Swing based and as soon as any Dialog boxes of any kind appear the whole thing locks.
Is it possible to continue using any of these in full screen or do we have to find a way to route them through one of the existing panels? If it is the latter, can anyone suggest good ways to do this?
Does anyone have any other guidelines for working with Fullscreen mode or for migrating from windowed to fullscreen applications?

JavaDoc says "Windows cannot overlap the full-screen window. All other application windows will always appear beneath the full-screen window in the Z-order." So I doubt it is possible to use dialogs without switching out of full-screen mode. But.
You can try to using JInternalFrame, I even heard something about modal JInternalFrames which therefore can be used to create internal modal dialogs.

  • White pixel appearing in screen in upper left corner when using fullscreen

    hi,
Whenever I use fullscreen a white pixel will appear in the upper left corner of the screen.
The pixel is also appearing in a screenshot, so it must be software.
Last week I did a clean install on my mac, and only put my files back (not the preferences). But I have the same problem again.
When I delete the loginwindow.plist and log off and in again, the problem is gone. But will reappear when my mac will go to sleep and wake again (or restart).
Can anybody help me fix the problem?
    Thanks!

I suddenly had the same problem (little white pixel in very top left of screen)

  • Using fullscreen on my first monitor makes the other one gray

So when I go into fullscreen on my first monitor, the other one becomes gray (like the Mac OS X login screen, almost like this: http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/183/2/e/linen_desktop_shaded_by_tbg10101- d3ksrb5.png).
It happens when i click the http://gyazo.com/e9d8ec2ecff4828a8465368de564ebcb small 2 arrows button on the top right of the window, and it also happens when I open some fullscreen programs. The only things this doesn't happen on and I still can click on stuff and do stuff on the other screen is League of Legends, fullscreen on  Video players in Google Chrome and Safari (like youtube.com, twitch.tv etc)... ( By the way when i go into fullscreen on youtube or twitch in Safari and i click on my second motor the Dock and a white list on the top comes up on the full screened monitor (the one with Safari), this is very annoying and should eb fixed.)
How can i fix this problem with the gray screen on second monitor tho? This problem kinda ruins the purpose why you should have a second monitor...
    Thanks for the help

    Hello Kladdy
Check the settings In System Preferences to make sure that Displays have separate Spaces and that should make it to where when you go full screen, it will not be a blank window.

  • Using fullscreen applications with two monitors

I have an external monitor connected to my macbook via VGA and the mini-DVI adapter. I often use the second monitor to play video files, while using my macbook display for other work. My problem is that whenever I try to run an application in fullscreen mode on either monitor, the other monitor goes black and is unusable. I've searched these forums and the internet in general, but have been unable to find any kind of solution to this. If anyone knows how to remedy this, please help.

Haha. Found the answer to my own question. There's an option in VLC to disable black screens during fullscreen. Guess I must have missed it.

  • Ps CC: Color Shift On Second Monitor When Using FullScreen Mode

I have been suffering from a new issue since re-calibrating my external NEC Multisync monitor with an i1 Pro calibrator.
Though colors across the system as a whole are improved over similar calibrations with a SpyderPro4, whenever I use the full-screen mode in Photoshop CC (using the F key), the color shifts radically red.
I have tested the other solutions of disabling graphics processing and OpenGL/OpenCL to no avail.
Some testing has revealed that in full-screen mode the colors most-closely resemble the profile for the connected Macbook Pro Retina.
Is Pshop loading the wrong ICC profile just when switching to Fullscreen? I can usually get the correct profile back if I command-tab to another program and back again, but this is an unnecessary workaround.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Alex

this kind of thing just cannot happen with a high-end Eizo or NEC PA - with these units, there is no video card calibration LUT at all, because it's handled internally in the monitor.
Dag, that's what we expect. But why are the LUTs on the graphics card slightly modified?
The programs Display Profile, Calibration Tester (and Calibration Loader) belong to the GMB ProfileMaker package.
    Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann
    P.S.:
    Perhaps it works like this:
In advance to an actual calibration by ColorNavigator, the program writes these modified values with
equal "deviations" for R,G,B into the graphics card LUTs. Either as a marker or as numerical preparation
for the hi-res correction in the monitor itself.

  • Cannot have multiple flvplayback instances using fullscreen

    Hello,
I am using AS3 with CS5. I created a flash project which contains multiple instances of flvplayback. Each plvplayback plays a separate video and each has its own controls. It all works fine when playing, pausing and controlling the videos. The problem is with the fullscreen functions. If I click the fullscreen button on the first flvplayback, it makes the second video go full screen. If I click the second video fullscreen button, it opens fine into its own video except when I do it three to four times. After three to four times of toggling fullscreen on the second video, it opens the first video into the browser larger than its original size but not full screen. I have tried recreating the flvplayback instances by re-importing the video files. Each flvplayback has been given its own instance name. Even when I create a separate custom button, not part of flvplayback, and give it the command to launch fullscreen on the first video, it still opens the second video to fullscreen. When I use just one video and remove the other ones, toggling fullscreen works fine for that particular video.
I don't understand what it is going on. This is a very strange problem. Maybe I'm missing something basic so if someone can please help me on this I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Kris

Using fullScreenTakeOver=false prevents only the case that flvplayback become fullscreen by  stage.displayState='fullScreen' .
I'm also seeking for a solution for this bug, unfortunately no luck so far.

  • Play Quicktime file on extended mode with 2 monitors using fullscreen

I have content that plays in QuickTime that was designed to run on 2 displays using extended mode. Whenever I full screen it defaults to only using one of the displays.

Here, this might help you. I was having problems copying to my Lacie external hard drive, too. I contacted Lacie and this was the response I received - which I followed and have now been able to move all my imovie, idvd, quicktime, etc. files to the Lacie:
The default formatting on these drives is FAT32, compatible with both Mac and PC. However, FAT32 has some limitations-it will not hold any single file larger than 4GB and it does not like filenames with any other characters other than A-Z, a-z, 0-9, periods and underscores. Mac
OS 10.1.x and 10.2.x will not mount large FAT32 volumes.
The Mac Extended format does not have any of these limitations as it is the Mac-native format. If you will not be sharing this drive with a PC at all, reinitialize the drive as follows. You will need to copy off
any data you need temporarily as this will erase the drive.
OS X - Initializing with Disk Utility (will erase the drive)
    1. Open the Disk Utility found the Utilities folder.
    2. On the left, select the drive (not the volume below it).
    3. On the right, select the Partition tab.
    4. Under Volume Scheme, set it to the number of partitions desired(usually Mac OS Extended).
    5. Set the format you desire.
    6. It is not necessary to check the OS 9 Drivers check box.
    7. Once you have the drive set up how you desire, click on the Partition button in the lower right.
    8. It should only take a few moments to complete, and when done, the drive will mount on the desktop.

  • How can I make my whole site in fullscreen (API) mode, not just the opening page?

I'm building a site that consists only of static pages, no scrolling, and I want the whole site to be in fullscreen mode. I know it's not good manners on the internet to have a whole site in this mode but it's a site with art and music and I really have a reason to have it this way.
I've been doing a lot of searching and I've got the fullscreen API to work for me, but just on that one particular page. I want it to stay fullscreen even when I go to another page on the site.
Maybe I've been doing this wrong somehow and the script is supposed to work that way but I've not been able to make it work.
    Thanks in advance
    db

Thanks so much for your quick replies.
The thing is I designed the site and tested it on a lot of different screen resizer plugins and it looked good.
What I did not count on was the space you lose with the dock. The content just gets too small on a 1366x768 for example.
Nancy, with "This allows content to fit the available viewport.", you mean the browser window? I've already built it that way.
Jon, ok so I was right about the API not working on whole sites then but it does have the the opputunity to make a single page fullscreen though.
Though I want the fullscreen mode on IE as well, I don't think the interface elements take that much space on windows computers and
maybe I won't have to use fullscreen there. This site is also not designed to work on mobiles so no issue there.
I have been thinking about some alternatives:
    1. Some kind of workaround that you mention Nancy, but I haven't found any.
    2. Have the visitors push a key to get into fullscreen but it seems that there is no equivalent to the F11 on mac, just different shortcuts for
different browsers. Or have I missed something here?
    3. Make the next page open up in an iframe but it just slows down the loading of the page.

  • Switch to fullscreen in a desktop app which is running windowed

I have a desktop application that runs with a transparent masked border, so since it's not a fullscreen application i have <fullScreen>false</fullScreen> in the app descriptor. BUT I'd like to be able to switch to fullscreen mode in some instances. I try to do so with:
    stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE;
But this doesn't seem to work. The app is still not fullscreen after issuing that line. I suppose it's because of the descriptor, but if I set  <fullScreen>true</fullScreen> the app will start fullscreen, which I don't necessarily want (usually it's a windowed application with transparent chrome).
    So is this possible?
    Thanks!

    I have a desktop app using <fullScreen>false</fullScreen> in the app descriptor and have no problems switching between fullscreen mode or windowed mode just by setting stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE; or stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.NORMAL;
There may be something else at play causing the fullscreen mode to fail.

  • Menu bar does NOT appear in FULLSCREEN APPS

    Hey everyone,
I recently updated to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard on release day. Although I am relatively unfamiliar with the full screen apps Lion + ML have started enabling I seem to be having an issue.
I started using fullscreen mode with Safari and noticed I lost my menu bar. I soon found that moving my cursor up to the top of the screen made the bar come back into place.
HOWEVER, about a day ago it stopped working! Is there something that has happened to stop this from working? It's quite annoying as once I'm in fullscreen mode I cannot leave it without hitting the esc button, which closes my browser down losing my websites and work I have done.
This problem also persists in other apps that I fullscreen, I merely used safari as an example because its one I would like to use most in fullscreen.
Is there any other way I can make the menubar show up again? And is there a reason moving my cursor to the stop of the screen no longer brings up the menubar?
I am running ML on Mid 2009 MBP OSX 10.8
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

The final solution to solve all problem I reported is to uninstall Air Display. This solved my question.
After unintalling Air Display, dragged icon now can be dropped as expected just after reboot. Hot corner can work as expected just after reboot. Menu bar can be shown properly in full screen mode when mouse was moved to the top as expected just after reboot.
Without uninstall, the workaround is to wait for an hour for my ML to be stablized. It means that after about one hour, those problem would then be resolved automatically, but it means I cannot reboot my ML if do not want to wait.

  • App switching in fullscreen mode: Losing Focus

I have my mac running Mountain Lion (Ver 10.8.2) and have noticed that when switching between applications when fullscreen mode is involved that the application I am switching to loses focus.
    Scenarios:
Switching from fullscreen app -> fullscreen app
Switching from fullscreen app -> not fullscreen app
Switching from not fullscreen app -> fullscreen app
For all of the above scenarios when the switch is completed, the app I am switching to loses focus, but the application bar still shows the correct application name (so it doesn't just switch to Finder). This happens regardless of if I use a multitouch gesture or CMD+TAB to do the switch. Also, when this happens "CMD + ~" doesn't switch between windows of the application switched to.
I would expect these scenarios to work the same as switching between regular applications where the one you switch to is in focus after the switch. Is this a bug with the fullscreen mode? or is there a setting I missed that can fix it? or is it a "feature"?
I thank you for any help you can provide - this irritating bug makes it impossible for me to use fullscreen mode for my purposes.

That was the problem! I had Live Wallpaper installed and running, so I guess I won't use that until there is an update to fix te problem.
    Thanks!

  • Dock Keeps Appearing in Fullscreen Quicktime

Whenever I'm watching a video in Quicktime using fullscreen after about a minute the dock pops up, without my mouse prompting it. The only way to get rid of it is to exit fullscreen, and re-enter it. Only happens in my user account, tried it in a test user and it did not happen.
    Any ideas?

  • More Mac OS X Fullscreen Issues

    Howdy all,
Having an interesting problem on Mac OSX 10.3.4. Seems that if you try to start full screen exclusive mode from the AWT-Event thread, it hangs forever.
I have a swing app for displaying a slideshow, and want it to display fullscreen. The app functions perfectly on Windows and Linux, but hangs forever on Mac OS.
It was particularly annoying because all the test programs from Sun ran fine, but my app would hang. I spent a some time tracking it down, and it seems that full screen exclusive mode can be started from any thread EXCEPT the AWT-Event thread. This is troubling because I just want to make a swing app use fullscreen mode, and if I can't use the AWT-Event thread I will need to write my own renderer.
Anyone had this issue? Known bug? Any common work-arounds?
    Thanks,
    -g

I've been having a look around the FullScreen APIs recently and have have equal measure of success and failure on both MacOsX and Windows. (I read somewhere that possibly MacOsX3.5 sorts out some teething troubles so i'll be trying that tonight).
I also saw that on the Mac you need to use a different thread, but in doing so I am suspicious that a whole bunch of race condition issues are being thrown up when you try changing display mode etc . the online book at fivedots about java gaming suggests that you need to call some fullscreen methods in the event dispatch thread, so as you can imagine i'm getting bogged down.
I think there needs to be some good literature on the net from Sun about the intended threading models for fullscreen and windowing mode. The tutorial says one should avoid mixing the two models, but this is not good enough - i want to be able to switch between windowing and active rendering easily, and also to be able to shut down the EDT as well and drop from a gui-based work mode to console with the same app.
I've been going round in circles trying to find and trying to write code that works a) on one platform and b) on both platforms where windowing and fullscreen switching is involved. I have tried setting up non-EDT threads that immediately call back into the EDT to adjust properties of the fullscreen window etc to try to avoid locking up the EDT. I'm perfectly happy with the invokeLater and invokeAndWait calls, but fullscreen implementations on windows and MacOsX are really hard
Can anybody shed some light? What's going on? Whats the intended threading model here?
    Thanks in advance
