Using internet and Powerbook 15" titanium in Moscow

going to Moscow soon. Need tips on connecting to the internet with my powerbook. have airport card and bluetooth dongle by Macally

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You can check you current RAM configuration by going to Apple menu > About This Mac > More Info.
Click to enlarge. This is from my iMac but shows that I have 1x 512MB and 1x 1GB modules installed.
Although on some computers you must match pairs of RAM modules it's not neccessary on the Powerbook G4. If you have 2x128MB then I would advise buying 2x512MB PC133 144pin SODIMMs:

  • I lost my connection when I was using internet and when I want to reconnect to airport it give me connection timeout error, I changed my password on router but still doesn't work. How can i fix my problem?

    Hi,
I lost my airport connection when I was using internet and when I wanted to re-reconnect to airport it gave me connection timeout error, I changed my password on router but still doesn't work. How can i fix my problem?

    Hello there hastibahreini,
It sounds like you were using your Wi-Fi network from your Airport base station and the connection cut out. You have reset the password on the device but the issue persists. I would try the 3 resets outlined in the following article in order to help resolve the issue. If it persists, is the Wi-Fi connection issue happening on more than one device or computer?

  • Can I use two airports to use internet and listen to itunes in stereo? simultaneously?

Can I use two airports to use internet and listen to itunes in stereo?  I just bought a second airport so I could listen to itunes & Pandora on my stereo.  My problem is that I haven't been able to connect to both airports at once.  I want to listen to the stereo (one airport) while using internet which is connected to a separate airport.  Unfortunately, the stereo and ethernet cables are not close by which is why I bought the second airport.

You can run both simultaneously. You just need to reconfigure the base station that will be used for streaming as a wireless client.
I suggest that you start by performing a "factory default" reset on the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) to get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration. By default, the AXn will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN
After the reset has completed, plug the AXn into power, and then, verify from the iMac that this network shows up in the list of networks under the AirPort icon in the OS X menu bar.
Be sure to first switch the wireless network to the AirPort that will be used for streaming. Note: You will temporarily lose the Internet connection from your "main" AirPort. Then, run the AirPort Utility. The Utility should now find the streaming AXn. If not, use the Utility's "Configure Other" option under the File menu option in the Utility's menu bar. Enter 10.0.1.1 for the Address and "public" for the Password.
AirPort Utility > Select the AXn > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    Network Name: <existing "main" AirPort's wireless network>
Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
AirPort Utility > Select the AXn > Manual Setup >Music
    Enable AirPlay (checked)
iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    Verify Password: (optional)
Click Update to write the new settings to the AX

  • Airport express: use internet and air tunes at the same time?

    Hi,
I'd like to use and airport express to create a wirelss network (and so use the internet) AND stream music to my stereo with air tunes - at the same time. Is this possible? So far, I have been able to create a wireless network (and use the internet) OR use the airport express to play music. But whenever my internet works, itune can't find the base station - claiming it "can't be found on the network?"
Can you do both at once?
I'm connecting to an ethernet jack (I'm at a college). It's not a cable modem or DSL. Is this the problem?
Under "music" in the utility configuration. I've selected "Enable Air tunes at the base station." I can't select "Enable Airtunes over ethernet port." When i try to change the network options to allow me to select this "ethernet port" option, I have to tell it how to "distribute IP" addresses. i don't know how to do this, and everything I've tried destroys my internet connection.
I appreciat any help you have to offer. thanks
    1.5 GHz PowerPC G4, 12'' powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    solution:
My problem ended up being specific to the network I'm using. There is evidently another router on the ethernet system that was assigning my airport express an IP address (192. ...), rather than letting the network DCHP give me a direct IP address (something like 160. ...). The 192 address made it impossible for iTunes to see my express base station, but I was getting internet, passed through this other router.
The fix - and I'm not sure if this is totally kosher - was to manually enter a correct IP address for my base station. I got the IP address by seeing what this other router was sending my computer to get onto the internet. It gave me the correct router and a workable (160. ...) IP address. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to manually pick an IP address on the ethernet, but this one is working for the time being, and now iTunes can find my base station.

  • Use internet and phone at same time?

I am new to smartphones, so I was hoping someone could help me. I was using my Samsung Fascinate phone yesterday when I also tried to use the internet. The phone call got disconnected. Is there a way to surf the internet while being on the phone? I figured with a phone as advanced as this, you should be able to do both. Do I need to access the wi-fi to get on the net, or can I use the 3G for both the phone and web? I would appreciate any help.

Verizon and therefore the Samsung Fascinate uses CDMA wireless technology.  It is not possible to be on the internet and phone at the same time with CDMA with a 3G connection.  In order to use the internet and make phone calls at the same time, you need to be connected to wifi.  Cell carriers AT&T and T-mobile uses GSM which allows data and phone at the same time.

  • How to use internet and airport express at same time?

I have my airport express set up in a room with my stereo.  I can stream from computer and iTunes music library fine.  My internet net gear modem is in another room connected to the phone line.  My computer is an another room again.  All devices can stream to the stereo from the iTunes library.  I also want to play iTunes radio and other internet music apps and stream to the stereo.  It seems they can't because they are unable to use both networks 'airport' and 'net gear' at the same time.  I'm thinking if the airport express was plugged into the modem it would all work, is that right?  But my stereo and speakers throughout the house all run from a different room.  The other option is to move the phone but thats not an option either.  What else can I do?

You need to tie things together in one network.
That means the express should be setup to join the netgear.. not work stand alone.
But it is much better to have ethernet run.. or use all apple routers. So you can extend wireless rather than join.
Some EOP homeplug adapters are ok.. but they are rather like wireless in being unknown until you test them. And why ethernet is well worth the cost.

  • Anyone use 300N and PowerBook

Hey. I dont have one of these routers, but seriously considering getting one of these as my 3rd attempt to jump on the 802.11n bandwagon. I so far have had a Belking N1 and a Dlink dir-625.
Heres the story. The belkin N1 worked great. However! It required frequent reboots, which some others experienced and may possibly be due to my ISP or modem. So instead of getting a new modem i tried the dlink.
The dlink fails. I am noticing horrible speeds though range was slightly better than the Belkin. But the speed is so slow. And also, there appears to be a problem using WPA or WPA2 security. I cannot use my powerbook with security turned on.
So what I am wanting to see if there are any users here that have an Apple with the Airport Extreme 54g card and have it working with the 300N router with WPA or WPA2 security enabled. And what kind of performance are you getting. My main purpose for going with N is that, I have a meadia network at home and need good LAN speed for xfer of large video files and streaming mp3s.
    Thanks for the help!!!
(Mod Note: Edited non technical remarks. Thanks!)Message Edited by JOHNDOE_06 on 08-19-2006 03:09 PM

Thanks for the info. Well I went ahead and got this router. Couldnt deal with the dlink any more. Yeah, I knew thats what I would have to do in order to utilize the N capability, but since the N accessories are as much or more than the router, I'll stick with G for now.
But I can go ahead and answer the question, in case other mac users want to know. I hooked it up and enabled security, and so far no probelms what so ever. So maybe 3rd times the charm. So now that problems solved. Now I just need to see how reliable this thing is, i have read a bunch of complaints on this thing in the forum, so will need to see how it lives up in that area.

  • Using Internet and taking a phone call at the same time

I have an Apple iPhone 5s. I generally keep the phone o/s up to date.  I recently updated to ios8 and now to ios8.2.  My problem (experienced recently), since the upgrade to ios8, I cannot take a phone call and use the Internet at the same time.  This was possible with the previous os versions.  Is the new ios8 the problem and is anyone else with a iPhone 5s experiencing the same or similar problem?

FaceTime is also good. So oddly enough the iPhone gets my voice very well in all situations except when using speakerphone on a phone call at the same time. What could be the cause?
A few months ago when I first got the iPhone on calls it seemed like people could hear me VERY well on speakerphone, but now people more often complain they can't hear me. Frustrating!
Yeah and it's an iPhone 4s on AT&T with full bars.

  • Colaborate on book using desktop and powerbook

    hello
I'm working on a book that I started on my desktop. I tryed to copy it to my powerbook and lost all the changes in made to the pictures. is there a way of moving back ant forth between both macs?
    thanks fred

To add to Smtr's suggestion one way to create that separate Book Library for moving between two computers can be found in Tutorial #9 You can remove all of the photos except those that are in the book and those that you think you might need and then move that between Macs by CD, flash drive or cable. If you need more photos you can use iPhoto Library Manager to copy those that you want from the primary library directly into the book library.
For future books I suggest you start with a new library as they make an excellent way to archive the book for future use as Smtr described.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Publishing on iweb using iMac and Powerbook

How can I get the same published pages in iweb on my iMac, after I have worked and published on the powerbook - using mobile me- without loosing my previous work on powerbook?
    Thank you.

Copy your domain file for your site from your iMac to PowerBook or vice versa. Do you have the same version of iLife on both?
Your domain file is found under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.

  • Almost all of RAM is being used, internet and other tasks are slow

My computer seems to be getting slower.  I don't do much more than run Safari.  When I run the activity monitor it shows that I have 3.99 GB of memory used out of 4 GB of physical memory.

This forum is quite general, basically for modern Macs. It would help if you said what model your Mac is and more importantly what Operating System you are running.
See your  About this Mac, More info for such detail.
Have reset Safari? I recommend you try this. It may be all you need to do occasionally.
From the Safari menu, select Reset Safari and select everything except Remove saved names and passwords.
Also from the same menu Empty the Cache as well and see how that goes.

  • I use MAC OSX Lion 10.7.5 which has become unstable when using Internet and Pages. Any ideas?

When using word, pages or email the cursor jumps around all over the document placing the typed information anywhere!
I am having to constantly rewrite emails and documents
Even writing this question has taken three attempts.
Any ideas what I can do to solve the problem would be really appreciated.
Could it be a keyboard problem (mine is wi-fi)?

    please someone answer!

  • HT5622 How to clear drive for maintaining access and using internet and applications without interference?

Stop ads from interfering with apps

i said right there, that i didnt want to move any more stuff off of the computer, ill dump trash or compress files, but i need to make room.
Not being a smartass, but somtimes it doesn't matter what you want.
If you can't clear enough space you may have to move more files off, or buy a larger internal drive.

This is not tested on Tiger, but there may be an equivilent.

  • Use wire and wireless at same time

My computer has wire and wireless network devices  together. Also I am using two WRT54G routers that one is conneted internet at next door and the other is in my office. Wire network is used to use internet and wireless is connected to use DVR(Digital Video Recorder). I know if I use one router with internet and DVR together, I wouldn't have any problem, but now I can't do that.
When I enable both network device, I can't use internet because the default is wire one which isnt' connect with internet. That's why I have to disable wire when I use internet.
What I ask you is I want use both at same time. That means when I want use internet, wire would be worked. Using DVR has no problem because wire is default.
How can I reach my goal?

How did you connect the two WRTs?
