Using ipod mini power adapter for nano?

I just got an ipod nano and I have a few questions:
I noticed that it doesn't come with a charger (or power adapter?...not sure what it's called) which I thought was unhandy for traveling because then I can only charge it through a computer and I won't always have one around. I had an ipod mini before which did come with a charger. Can I charge the nano with my old ipod mini charger?
And also I was stupid and forgot the instalation CD for the nano at my sister's who lives really far away, so I was wondering do I need the CD or is the software that I have for ipod mini ok too?

Hi Hol,
You can use any iPod charger. See charging FAQ's:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61127
For the software, you definitely want the Nano software. You can download the Updater from Apple which covers all models.
Good luck,
Maz

  • Using iPod mini Power Adapter to charge iPod 5G ???

    Hi!
I got my new iPod 5G. Now I'd like to use the old iPod mini power adapter. It got a Firewire connection. Does it work? Or do I destroy my new iPod???

The power adapters can be used with any iPod or iPod Nano, they aren't model specific. A 5th Generation iPod can be charged by Firewire, it just can't use a Firewire cable to update. Updating of any iPod after the 4th Generation or the Mini can only be done via USB.

  • Can't recharge using iPod USB power adapter

My 2nd gen iPod shuffle will recharge ok when plugged into the USB port of my Mac, but when I plug it into an iPod USB power adapter it won't recharge, the indicator light does not light up, and if I turn the power on the light turns to amber for a couple of seconds then goes blank.

This sounds like your iPod USB Power Adapter is malfunctioning... does it charge other iPods?

  • Is it possible to use the firewire power adapter for ipod to charge an Ipad

There is information everywhere that the Ipad doesn't charge with low power adapters.
The first power adapter I received with my first Ipod was the firewire power adapter and it allows intensities even higher than the 10 W Ipad adapter.
Could this old adapter be used with Ipad
Model n. A1070 output 12V 6.7 A if I believe what is written on it.

You should only use a USB-type charger for the ipad. Any other charger is risking damage to the ipad.
The ipad uses 5Volts at 2 amps for best charging. This is why it came with the wall charger.
You can charge it with any 5 Volt USB charger as long as the output amps is approximately 1 amp or more. If the amps rating on the charger is less than 2 amps, it will charge slower, but it is safe. The ipad will only draw the current it requires, but any voltage higher than 5 volts is risking damage to the ipad.
    Hope this helps.

I got a 85 W adapter (used for Mac Book Pro) for a Mac Book AIR. Can I continue to use the 85 W Power adapter instead of buying another 45 W one?

Yes. The Macbook Air will only pull the max Wattage from the adapter as it's supposed to.

  • Can I use an alternate power adapter for ibook g3 600 MHz?

My old adapter is frayed, sparking, and no longer works even with electrical tape around the fray. I don't want to buy the same model b/c my ex-boyfriend had 2 other adapters fray in a similar manner.
I'm overwhelmed by the power adapter choices. There are many on ebay but I wonder if they won't work properly. There is also this one (POWERBOOK IBOOK AC ADAPTER ( PS-AC4 )) at amazon:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001YXWVO/ref=ordcartshr/002-0375612-5404059?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance&n=172282
I just want to get something that works for the lowest price possible. My computer is old (battery has close to NO lifespan -- I have to plug in at all times) and I may have to soon replace it for a school requirement.
    I appreciate any suggestions.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The MacAlly adapter will work fine. We are using two of them on two of our four iBooks.
Another, and bit sturdier, adapter can be found at Other World Computing
The MacAlly adapter's cord (the one on Amazon) is a bit flimsier than the cord on the one from Other World Computing, but both are working fine on our iBooks.

  • I bought a usb power adapter for my ipod nano so I can plug inti a power outlet. Will this take less time to charge my ipod or same amout of time if using the computer?

    Hi, Atcandela.
I've a Macally external fire/usb enclosure that powers up and mounts directly on to my PB Aluminum 1.67 laptop but the USB portion doesn't draw power.
Do you mean it mounts and works OK when connected via FireWire, but not when connected via USB? If so, that's unsurprising. I would be surprised to hear that it doesn't mount when you use the FireWire connnection, because most drives are able to get enough power from that port.
Does MacAlly not offer a cable for your drive that allows it to draw power from both your USB ports? Some manufacturers of external drives or enclosures do offer such a cable, and it's well worth buying because it's much smaller and more portable than an AC adapter. Have a look at this one from Western Digital — it might fill the bill for you.

  • Belkin Power Adapter for iPod mini

I wanted a power adapter for my mini and of course, after X'mas, every store in town was out of stock for the Apple adapter. But the guy told me the Belkin Power Pack for the iPod Shuffle also works for other iPods. I bought it and thought I'd give it a whorl. But I wanted to make sure it's ok to use on my mini before I plug it into my ipod. I've done research online but I can't seem to find anything on it. So can anyone tell me if the Belkin Power Pack for the iPod Shuffle is also compatible with my iPod mini (2nd gen)? Were there any problems with using the shuffle power pack to charge the mini??
    Thanks!

i think you should really post your own topic in the forums so that we can keep these threads specific to a topic and you get more attention for your topic and you should really try to post with better english next time with capitals and more than just one long sentence that is very hard to read.

  • Will my ipod mini power cord fit my new nano

will my ipod mini power cord fit my new nano

There is no direct to power plug included in the nano pkg., only a usb connector. My mini power is firewire to a wall plug and a regular pinned adapter to the iPod. The connector that came with my iPod mini looks like the same pinning, but it is deeper(?) that the nano plug. I have tried to use it but no go. I thought someone else may have a fix, or an idea as to why it is not working.

  • Use Ti Power Adapter for 17" in an Emergency?

Can I use an old Ti Power Adapter for a 17" G4 Powerbook to run from A.C. outlet? I don't care if it charges the battery. Would it damage the 17"? Should I take the battery out and just run it via A.C. using the Ti?

If the plug fits it should be fine but just check the wattage, my wife and I use each others adapters, she has a G4 iBook and we run a Powerbook and a G3 iBook from the same adapter.
