Using isDefined for a dynamic struct?

I know how you can check for a defined variable or object using isDefined("myVar"), but I have a struct that can have varying properties. While I can explicitly write out the "myStruct.myProperty" checks in quotes for this method, I'd like to put these into a function where a variable is passed into it.
Is this possible? Basically, I'm populating form fields and some fields may not be defined yet. Thoughts? Thanks.
Ryan

Thanks for the help BTW. I'm still new to CF, I'm more of a .net guy.
Basically, I have this. It's a form that edits and adds bios for members:
objStatement = objConnection.PrepareStatement("select bio_first_name, bio_last_name from cpppeBios where bio_id = ?");
objStatement.setInt(1, Int(FORM.edit_bio_id));
objResults = CreateObject("java", "coldfusion.sql.QueryTable").Init(objStatement.ExecuteQuery());
EditBio = structNew();
EditBio = objResults;
....and, I have input fields down below...
<input type='text' value='' />
I use the same form for adding and editing bios. What is the best approach for handling populating of these fields when the EditBio object can be null or contain data. I would access the data using EditBio.bio_first_name, etc.
Thanks again.

  • Using htp.p for print dynamic data in apex region make my page slow?

    Hi, everyone!!! My name is Rafael, and...
    I search in the web and in this forum but i can´t find a answer for my doubt.
    Using the procedure htp.p for print dynamic data in apex region through on demand process , this will leave my webpage slow to load when the user access?
    Example:
    For build a menu in my webpage, it´s read a function in the database that returns variable string, so by a demand process this string is obtain and print in a web page using htp.p.
    I notice that this practice causes slow to load the data on the page.
    This is it...
    If someone help me, thanks...
    bye and Happy new Year!!!

    Hi,
    Try commenting out the function call and print some sample text in the htp.p like htp.p('Hello world..');
    I think the function call is probably taking a lot of time .. not htp.p.
    I have used htp.p to print out values dynamically in a lot of situations and have not ever come across any performance issues.It could be a problem with the function you are calling.
    Thanks,

  • Using a reset button for a dynamic table

    I have a 6 page form that includes several dynamic tables. There is a reset button that clears only specific parts of the form because it is something that will be filled out weekly and a lot of the information will stay the same. My problem is that I want the reset button to clear specific rows of the table, but reset whatever is typed in the row for every instance in the table. The reset button only clears the row I want in the first column, not all the other columns/instances. Has anyone done this before or have any suggestions?
    I don't want to include the whole script for the reset button because it has about 100 fields to clear but essentially this is what I have for the dynamic table and it works but only for the first column/instance, the rest stay the same:
    xfa.host.resetData("form1.Page1.Subform1.Table1.Row5.Textbox1.somExpression");

    Hi,
    I’m not sure I understand your exact scenario but I use a function in a script object that I pass in a subform (possibly the top subform to reset the whole form) and the function resets all fields within it.
    function resetData(node)
        if (node.className === "field")
            var enableResetData = node.desc.nodes.namedItem("enableResetData");
            if (enableResetData === null || enableResetData.value === true)
                // reset all fields except those with enableResetData set to false
                node.rawValue = null;
        else
            for (var i = 0; i < node.nodes.length; i++)
                var currentNode = node.nodes.item(i);
                if (currentNode.isContainer)
                    // ignore some form objects
                    if (currentNode.className !== "draw" &&
                        currentNode.className !== "variables")
                        resetData(currentNode);
    If there are any fields that I don’t want reset I put the following code in the initialise event of those fields.  Depending on the number of fields involved you might what to reverse this logic.  (you could also add the desc.enableResetData element in the XML Source view)
    var enableResetData = this.desc.nodes.namedItem("enableResetData");
    if (enableResetData == null)
        enableResetData = xfa.form.createNode("boolean", "enableResetData");
        this.desc.nodes.append(enableResetData);
    enableResetData.value = true;
    This works by storing a value “enableResetData” in the desc element of the field, allowing a generic function to have specific behaviour for particular fields.
    Hope this helps.

    my phonegap (Adobe press, Powers jQuery with dw 5.5) book (old book (c)2010-11) says for above code: // is this valid for today, is this the right to use or for iOS can use dynamic google maps embeded(can be embedded fo iOS)???
    On iOS, calling window.location loads the map directly
    into the app. That’s great until you realize that iOS devices
    don’t have a Back button, so there’s no way to exit the
    map. To get round this problem, I loaded a static map as
    an image in the map page block. It’s not interactive, but at
    least you can continue using the Travel Notes app after
    viewing the map by clicking the Back button generated by
    jQuery Mobile.

    Well, this took me a while to get solved, but it is indeed solved.
    I tried USB Overdrive and it could, and perhaps should work, but apparently it will not. When adding a device, it seems that USB Overdrive is not set up to handle any input device that does not register itself as either a Mouse or a Joystick. The VEC USB Footpedal that I'm using is "Device type: Other".
    So, I went for Quickeys. And Quickeys can do it all. It did recognize the device, I was able to assign it to the scope of the particular audio playback app I wanted to use (Amazing Slow Downer OS X - which is truly amazing. Any musicians reading this who are looking for a way to learn pieces by ear, this does it better than anything else I've seen yet).
    I created a shortcut in Quickeys for the ASD app; added the middle button of the foot pedal as the trigger; set one step, entering 'space bar' as the step (which toggles playback, similar to many audio players).
    It all worked.
    Quickeys is very confusing and seemingly featured with an endless array of options. Enter at your own risk. Ask me for help. This was the only way to get it done that I could find. I did write to the author of USB Overdrive asking him to please support additional devices as I did find some traction from gamers who like to use a foot pedal in addition to other input devices. There was a Windows-only management utility for the foot pedal that was intended for custom input, assigning the buttons to any keyboard input or mouse click event. It would be nice to have a simple and easy to use utility like this. But, Quickeys did do the job.
    Thanks for your help, you guys!!!

  • How to use a collection type of bind variable for execute dynamic statement

    Hi,
    We have a case where we copy selective data from Schema A To Schema B in one oracle database. The copy is achieved by using
    execute immediate 'insert into '||target_schema||'.tablea select * from '||from_schema||'.table a where a.id in (select test_id from '||from_schema||'.table c);';
    This works fine it takes an average of 10 seconds to copy around 14 tables. We have a requirement to bring this time to 2 seconds. One observation has been the clause
    "select test_id from '||from_schema||'.table c" in the above sql statement repeats for many inserts . Thus we were thinking to bulk fetch this set of tests ids and use a bind vatiable of collection type for the execute immediate clause. Any suggestions on how to achieve it?
    Thanks,
    Chandana

    So what? Constructing a string for a table level insert and parsing it can't possibly be a performance problem. If you were creating a string in a loop to insert rows into a table by getting the data FROM a collection - that's a problem that keeps showing up in the forums.
    I'm with bravid and Nikolay on this one. First find out which side, select/insert, the problem is on.
    As they said you need to provide more information about the process.
    And using collections for your use case is definitely not the thing to do.
    1. How many rows are we talking about?
    2. Are the rows being inserted into an empty table?
    3. Are you running these queries during peak production hours or in a batch windows?
    Tune the SELECT if the problem is on that side.
    Post an execution plan for the SELECT part of a query you think should run faster.
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON
    SET AUTOTRACE TRACEONLY
    SQL> select * from emp;
    Execution Plan
    Plan hash value: 3956160932
    | Id  | Operation         | Name | Rows  | Bytes | Cost (%CPU)| Time     |
    |   0 | SELECT STATEMENT  |      |    14 |   546 |     3   (0)| 00:00:01 |
    |   1 |  TABLE ACCESS FULL| EMP  |    14 |   546 |     3   (0)| 00:00:01 |
    SQL>On the INSERT side you might be able to use bulk inserts
    ALTER TABLE myTable NOLOGGING;
    INSERT /*+ append */ INTO myTable . . .
    ALTER TABLE myTable LOGGINGIf the insert tables are always reused you could just leave them as NOLOGGING. Since you can't recover bulk data you need to make sure to get a good backup after the loads if you need to recover the data from the logs rather than just reload it yourself.

  • Using isDefined within a cfloop

    I am trying to check a number of submitted form fields. The
    forms fields are numbered Q11, Q12, Q13, Q14, etc. Rather than do a
    set of steps for each form field, I'm trying to do it with cfloop.
    I have it set up as:
    <cfloop index="i" from="1" to="20">
    <cfif isDefined('form.Q1i')>
    Do this stuff
    </cfif>
    </cfloop>
    I don't get any errors, but it also is not processing the 'Do
    this stuff'. I've tried changing the format; ('form.Q1' & #i#,
    and 'form.Q1' & i, and others. Then I get error messages.
    Any clues to the problem?

    >> This code Does Not [work]
    That is because when using isDefined() the values *must*
    reside within quotes inside the function. So,
    isDefined("form.Q12#i#") is valid where isDefined('form.Q12' &
    i) is not (the string "& i" is outside the required quotes).
    Also, your reference to the unknown variable name is
    incorrect. Since *i* is a dynamic variable that you are saving to
    the name of another variable you'd need to reference it as
    something like "form.Q12#i#" where *FORM.Q12" is the string and *i*
    is the dynamic value.
    So, using your code as a base to work from, try this:
    <cfloop index="i" from="1" to="20">
    <cfif isDefined("form.Q12#i#")><cfset Q12Temp =
    Q12Temp & ", " & "form.Q12#i#" /></cfif>
    </cfloop>
    Or to be a little cleaner, try this:
    <cfloop index="i" from="1" to="20">
    <cfif structKeyExists(form, "Q12#i#")><cfset Q12Temp
    = listAppend(Q12Temp, "form.Q12#i#") /></cfif>
    </cfloop>

    ORA-00904: "SUBJECT_OBJ": invalid identifier
    ORA-06512: at line 7The problem is that your variable subject_obj is not in scope inside the dynamic SQL you are building. The SQL engine does not know your PL/SQL variable, so it tries to find a column named SUBJECT_OBJ in your SAM1 table.
    If you need to use dynamic SQL for this, then you must bind the variable. Something like this:
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'insert into op_sample (select id,name,:bind_subject_obj from sam1) ' USING subject_obj;Alternatively you might figure out to use static SQL rather than dynamic SQL (if possible for your project.) In static SQL the PL/SQL engine binds the variables for you automatically.

  • Aggregation by Client for a Dynamic Timeframe

    Hello,
    I am working on a report in BI Answers and having some problems to get the results for a dynamic time-frame.
    My report is showing the amount of orders of each client. For the moment it is showing the amount of order for all the orders in the database. I am intending to create the possibility of giving me the same report, but by taking a time frame into account (a from to date feature).
    My database looks like this:
    Order_Data:
    - Client_Name Char
    - Order_Date Date
    What I succeeded so far is to give me the amount of orders per client per day for a certain time period (by using a between filter and a between prompt), it looks like this:
    01/01/08 Client A 5
    Client B 7
    Client C 6
    02/01/08 Client A 1
    Client C 2
    But I want to have the result for each client for the whole time-frame, like this (the dates should be dynamically chosen):
    From 01/01/08 To 05/03/08
    Client A 123
    Client B 654
    Client C 61
    Any help is highly appreciated
    Evgeny

    Hi, If you remove the date field in the report and keep only the filter, the system should automatically group by for the selected data range...Not sure whether that is what you are looking for..

  • Creating Report using EPM Functions with Dynamic Filters

    Hi All,
    I am new to BPC, In BPC 7.5 i seen like we can generate EPM report using EVDRE function very quickly and easy too. Is the same feature is existing in BPC 10.0 ? if no how can we create EPM reports using EPM Functions with Dynamic Filters on the Members of the dimension like in BPC 7.5.
    And i searched in SDN, there is no suitable blogs or documents which are related to generation of Reports using EPM Functions. All are described just in simple syntax way. It is not going to be understand for the beginners.
    Would you please specify in detail step by step.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Siva Nagaraju

    Siva,
    These functions are not used to create reports per se but rather assist in building reports. For ex, you want to make use of certain property to derive any of the dimension members in one of your axes, you will use EPMMemberProperty. Similary, if you want to override members in any axis, you will make use of EPMDimensionOverride.
    Also, EvDRE is not replacement of EPM functions. Rather, you simply create reports using report editor (drag and drop) and then make use of EPM functions to build your report. Forget EvDRE for now.
    You can protect your report to not allow users to have that Edit Report enabled for them.
    As Vadim rightly pointed out, start building some reports and then ask specific questions.
    Hope it clears your doubts.

  • How to use i for if condition in a for i in loop?

    Hi friends,
    I have a question on how to use i for IF condition in a loop, in order to get an efficient programming and results. Here is outlined SQL:
    cursor is
    select c1,c2,c3 from table1; -- 100 rows returned.
    open cursor
    loop
    fetch c1,c2,c3 into v1,v2,v3;
    for i in 1..3 loop
    if 'v'||i between 90 and 100 then
    v_grade := 'Excellent';
    elsif 'v'||i between 80 and 89 then
    elsif 'v'||i between 50 and 59 then
    end if;
    end loop;
    close cursor;
    This way, I don't need to use a lot of if..then for hard code v1,v2,v3,.... actually I have more v..
    But Oracle gave an error of this usage of 'if 'v'||i' or 'v'||to_char(i).
    Thanks for any advice in advance!

    Thanks for comments and advices. But I didn't get your inputs clearly. Are you saying I don't need to use PL/SQL to achieve this?Correct. Ronel and John showed you the basic approaches. SQL is not a mere I/O language for making read and write calls. It is a very capable, flexible and powerful language. One can solve a problem with a few lines of SQL code, that will take 100's of lines of PL/SQL or Java code.
    So do not underestimate what can be done in SQL.
    v_cmd := 'UPDATE parts_categ_counts SET w1='||v1||', w2='||v2||...||v9||' WHERE seq='||vseq||';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE v_cmd;This code is also wrong. Besides the fact that there is no need for dynamic SQL, this approach creates a brand new SQL statement each loop iteration.
    SQL is source code. It needs to be parsed (compiled). The end result is an executable program that is called a cursor. This cursor needs to be stored in server memory (the SQL Shared Pool in the SGA).
    The problem with your code is that it is slow and expensive - it generates lots of unique SQL statements that need CPU for parsing and server memory for storage.
    These add up to a very significant performance overhead. That is the wrong approach. The correct approach is the same one that you would use in any other programming language.
    Let's say you need to use Java to process a bunch of CSV files - exact same CSV layout used by each file. A file needs to be read, processed, and a log file created.
    Will you write a Java program that loops through the files, for each file found, write a Java program for processing that file, compile it, then execute it?
    Or would you write a Java program that takes the name of the file as input, and then process that file and writes the log file?
    The 2nd approach provides a program that can process any of those CSV files - one simply needs to pass the filename as an input parameter.
    Your code and approach use the 1st method. Not the 2nd. And that is why it is wrong.
    To create a SQL program with parameters is done by using bind variables. Instead of
    v_cmd := 'UPDATE parts_categ_counts SET w1='||v1||', w2='||v2||...||v9||' WHERE seq='||vseq||';
    The following SQL source code should be created:
    v_cmd := 'UPDATE parts_categ_counts SET w1=:v1, w2=:v2 ..., w9=:v9 WHERE seq= :vseq';
    The tokens with the colon prefix (such as :v1), are bind variables. Think of these as the parameters to the SQL cursor.
    The server parses this SQL into a cursor. You can now execute the same cursor over and over again, using different bind variables. (just like the 2nd approach above that one would use in Java)
    In PL/SQL, this is made even easier as you can code native SQL code with PL/SQL code and use PL/SQL variables in it. The PL/SQL compiler is clever enough to do the SQL parsing, variable binding, and cursor execution for you. So in PL/SQL, you would use:
    UPDATE parts_categ_counts SET w1=v1, w2=v2 ..., w9=v9 WHERE seq= vseq;
    Where v1 and the others are PL/SQL variables.
    That all said - PL/SQL is only used for data crunching, when the processing of data is too complex for the SQL language to deal with. And this is very seldom the case.
    The main reason for using PL/SQL it to provide processing flow control, conditional processing and error handling, for SQL code. As the SQL language does not have these features.

  • Open cursor for a dynamic query

    Hi,
    I'm using forms6i and db 10g
    I want to create a procedure like below
         PROCEDURE pop_cursor (generic_cur IN OUT gencurtyp, querystring varchar2) IS
         BEGIN
              OPEN generic_cur FOR querystring;
         END;where generic_cur is a Ref Cursor and querystring will contain a query statement like 'select col1... from table1'
    The above way i'm not able to do that, i'm getting error
    Encountered the symbol 'QUERYSTRING' when expecting on of the following:
    select
    Is there any alternative??
    Please help

    You can only use that sort of dynamic sql in the database. maybe you can return the ref cursor to the form from a db-function, i don't know if it works in forms 6i.
    But you could tell us your requirement, maybe you can implement it without these dynamic things.

  • What is the benefit in using OID for names resolution?

    I have been wondering about this for awhile. I have been working on getting this to work in Iplanet along with Pat Lehane ([email protected]), and it works now.
    What are the benefits in using OID for names resolution when you can just use the static tnsnames.ora. Database and database names are not created dynamically and they don't change that often. Would creates a new database every day and has to worry about changing the static tnsnames.ora file. In my environment, we run Oracle applications from a server, so there is only one tnsnames.ora file, on the file server.
    It would appear that using OID would cause extra traffic (LDAP lookups) on your network.
    I would like some opinions from both Oracle and Oracle users. Thanks

    hi,
    A benefit of using OID for names resolution is that it allows you to centralize net8 naming (i.e., tnsnames) information in the same place (OID) where other types of administrative information (about users, enterprise groups, enterprise roles, etc) gets stored. If you are more comfortable using tnsnames.ora files for net8 naming, that is perfectly fine!
    An important reason that Oracle had for providing Net8 naming functionality in OID is that the legacy 'Oracle Names' functionality of Oracle 7 will eventually be desupported. This is discussed in metalink Note #135696.1 on http://metalink.oracle.com .
    Hope this helps.
