Using Libdc1394 within a cocoa project

I am working on a project where I need to capture video from two firewire cameras and do some processing on them.  I also need to be able to control the camera features such as gamma, gain, white balance, etc.  I was looking into Libdc1394 which seems to allow this functionality, but I can't figure out how I would go about using that along with a traditional cocoa application.  Does anyone know how I would go about doing this?

The process should be fairly straightforward.  Add the library to your project (drag-n-drop into frameworks group or equivalent), add the header include path to header search path, add library paths and flags to library search paths and flags.

  • How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project?

OK...this is a probably a very basic question but I'm not sure how to word it clearly.
How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project? What I mean is that I have a bout 50 minutes of video and I want to make two DVDs using different clips from this original 50 minutes of footage. It would be a real pain to have to re-import the video AGAIN for the second DVD. I suppose I could drop anything I don't want to burn to DVD back into the clips pane but that would wipe out all my transitions wouldn't it? I want to save each project in their “raw” form so I can burn additional DVDs later otherwise I would just do them one at a time and not care about one of them being destroyed.
Wow...that was a mess. Does anyone understand what the heck I’m asking? I hope so.

How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project?
You can't. You make separate projects using the same or different clips, segments, transitions, titles, etc. You can even duplicate the first project and then modify/make the desired changes in the duplicated project. Each project can then be burned as a different DVD or as different titles on the same DVD if there is enough room.

    Hi
You can do this - by not doing it the way You describe as it will not work.
    a. the external hard disk - MUST BE - Mac OS extended (hfs) formatted -
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - will work for most things - BUT NOT FOR VIDEO (iMovie, iDVD or FinalCut doesn't matter)
    b. Do not alter or move any folder named
    • iMovie Event's - or -
    • iMovie Project's
    on DeskTop/Finder - at all
All moving's of Events and Projects must be done within the iMovie Application - then connections will not break.
(move them back and see if iMovie remembers them - then do move as described above)

  • Uploading a PDF "within" my Captivate project

Hi, I would like for learners to have the option of clicking an attachments link within my Captivate project so that they can download a file that is relevant to my course WHILE they are watching the video.  Can Captivate do this?  I've used a similar feature on Articulate Presenter.
    Thanks,
    Robyn

    Hi Robyn,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
In order to download a file from the Captivate output, you need to attach a file in a Captivate project on any button or click box.
Add a button or a click box then go to Properties > (define the) Action > On Success > (Select) Open URL or File > (Type the name of the file in) URL:  and then publish the project.
After publishing the project send the File along with the output or paste the file in the output folder, so that the object (button or click box) would be able to find the file which has been attached to it.
I hope this will help you.
Please let me know the status along with some more information:
    1) Version of Captivate?
    2) What kind of an output are you taking from Captivate?
    3) Are you using any LMS to upload the output?
    Thanks

  • I can't connect to my PXI from within my LabView Project

    Please advise,
I have been programming my PXI-8195 fine for weeks, but this morning I am receiving an error in connecting to the remote system from within my LabView Project.  MAX says it is 'connected-running' and I even successfully tested a DAQmx task.  I tried rebooting the PXI a couple of times as well as my host computer.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Hi Nik11,
What error are you receiving in LabVIEW?  Also, what operating system are you using on the 8195, and are you using LabVIEW or LabVIEW RT?

  • Any advantages of using HD in an SD project?

    Hi there,
Apologies if this question has been asked and answered - I ran a search but couldn't find a "specific" answer if you will.
I've been given the proposal of producing an SD project but utilising HD footage; which I know is possible!
But the guy who is handing over the job is insisting we can take advantage of the HD footage within the SD project as it'll be larger than our PAL SD "canvas" [which I know is true], which means we can [and I quote] "zoom in and retain detail".
I'm really not so sure this is possible!? As I was under the impression that any HD footage brought into an SD project would be automatically resized to fit the project dimensions!
Could anybody kindly point me in the right direction? And to be honest I'd rather we have the piece shot as we intend it to look [or as close as] in the final edit, ie. cut aways, close-ups, wides, etc., rather than relying on a probable myth of the above!
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards, Mark.
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi there Jerry,
Many thanks for the reply and the warm welcome -- I've been lurking around these parts for months now, but it's my first post!
Well, I'll be honest and admit to being shocked -- don't you hate when you're wrong?!
I was absolutely certain that importing HD into SD would simply be re-sized to the SD dimensions! Oh well...
But [and as you rightly said] I would rather see the material shot correctly for "correct use" in the first place rather than relying on the fact that we could possibly zoom-in [which is often an unatural move in interview situations].
I need to convince the "guy" [as we shall now call him] of the need to storyboard and script [of which they will be rather than vox-pops] the end use of the interviews.
Another day, another dollar... Or pound sterling in my case!!
    Many thanks once again.
    Regards, Mark.

  • Anyone help ol' man with Cocoa project, please?

    Hi all,
I recently volunteered to help transcribe Birth, Marriage and Death (BMD) records dating back to 1837 for FreeBMD -- a registered charity -- to help folks trace their family trees online. Unfortunately, while the Mac software has some nifty features, it's still really s-l-o-o-w and tedious to use and I reckon the speed and accuracy could be increased 3x using a slightly different approach.
I was reasonably okay with 'C' in the old days but never quite managed to get my head around OOP yet (probably due to my age). The app I have in mind consists of an ultra-simple text editor (a la Apple's 15 minute example project) with combined bare-bones image/PDF viewer plus a few extra bells and whistles, and I've already designed the interface -- about as far as I can get for now
I see a lot of really knowledgeable folks replying to postings in this discussion group, many with huge numbers of posts under their belts, and I reckon this would be considered a fairly 'trivial' app that could be knocked out during a long coffee break for anyone experienced in Cocoa programming.
If you feel you'd like to help with this charitable, not-for-profit project, please email me at "ojisanATadamDOTcomDOTau" and I'll send you what I've got, together with some good sample code that clearly addresses most of the problems.
Your input will help me get a handle on what eludes me about OOP (I learn really well by example), make life easier for all the Mac volunteer transcribers out there, help MILLIONS of hobbyists trace their ancestors quicker (genealogy is the #1 hobby in the US, and probably also in Australia, UK, and Canada etc.), and help level the playing field with Windows (their transcription solution is currently better than ours).
    Kind regards
    Ernie

    I aim to please.
As for .NET, the major language for .NET development is C#, and this language is clearly based on Java with a few minor syntax changes. It uses exactly the same object model as Java, and even the underlying technology is similar to the Java Virtual Machine.
I'm not attempting to convince you, just set the record straight.
As long as we are setting the record straight, we should clarify a couple of things. .NET is the "virtual machine" part. You can use C#, J#, VB, or even a slightly twisted variant of C++ with .NET. For those of us who spent a few formative years swearing at MFC, .NET is a significant improvement.
I haven't done much with .NET but I find it to be very much like Cocoa, both in the functionality it provides and the slightly twisted way you have to use it. In Cocoa, you have to use Objective-C or Objective-C++. In .NET, you have to use Microsoft's own slightly strange variants. If you can understand all the brackets, receivers, and messages in Cocoa, you shouldn't have any trouble with all the carets in .NET C++.
You're quite right, it's obviously much less effort to write a program in Cocoa and then re-write it for .NET, than it is it to write it in Java in the first place and run it unchanged on three different platforms. Java is so portable that a Java program written on one platform doesn't even have to be re-compiled to run on another. If you write a program using Cocoa then you limit your market just to Macs - very much a minority platform compared to Windows. Write your program in Java and your market is literally unlimited.
Everything you've said here is correct. Still, every Java program I have ever seen is clearly a "Java" program and usually cannot achieve the same level of integration with the OS that either .NET or Cocoa gives you by default. Java programmers still have to make an effort to ensure that their programs run and run well on platforms they didn't develop it on.

  • Can I put 4:3 photos/videos & 16:9 videos together within a iMovie project?

Looks okey to put them together within a iMovie project. But I can't get the iDVD to complete the burn process (I always encountered the iDVD not responging....)
    1. I can preview the work both on iMovie & iDVD.
    2. The DVD burn process gets no responsive..
    3. I then remove all 4:3 photos/videos, then it works!
So, is this the root problem to cause iDVD failed?
    Thanks for any input.

    Gerret
You can do it both ways.
You can desgin your menus as 16:9 but withh all the button and info content inside the 4:3 central area. Then set those menus as 16:9 pan&scan. Then you'll see them full screen in both TVs, 16:9 and 4:3. In 4:3 TVs you'll see just the central part. I hope to be clear !!
If you use 4:3 menus you'll see them pillarboxed in widescreen TVs.
If you use 16:9 menus and set them as 16:9 letterboxed you'll see them letterboxed in 4:3 TVs and sometimes the text could be seen very small.
At the end is your desicion as designer. Every option has pros & cons.
    Hope that helps !

  • How do we embed projector and supporting files within an XCode project/app?

Many Director 12 developers would like to put their projects into the Mac App Store, and I'm one of them. It seems to me that the safest way to meet Apple's various requirements (sandbox, receipt validation, and whatever Apple adds in the future) is to somehow use Apple's own tool: Xcode.
Which web pages out there explain how to add/embed a Macintosh application (Director 12 projector) and supporting files (movies, casts, sound files, etc) within an XCode project and resulting app?
I got no obviously right results with Google searching. I might have chosen the wrong keywords to search for.
I searched this forum and found some posts about preparing for the Mac App Store, but those answers seem to be either out-of-date or very incomplete for this purpose.
Huge thanks to anyone out there who can point me in the right direction!

So receipt validation should be implemented via an Xtra? Then I must hire a Xtras developer, because I don't know the C++ programming language nor Objective-C/Xcode.
Maybe I should ask that developer to implement this:
    https://github.com/roddi/ValidateStoreReceipt
I must decide whether to have all the receipt validation logic coded in the Xtra, or simply have the Xtra access the receipt and then I would code all the receipt validation using Lingo. Perhaps having all that coded in C++ would be more secure against hackers, but I lack the technical knowledge to be sure. Doing the validation in Lingo would make it easy to change that validation Lingo code for each product I put in the App Store; Apple asks developers to change and obfuscate validation code, to make hacking more time consuming I guess.
I read a forum message somewhere here, that hinted third-party Xtras could create issues with code signing? Does anybody have experience with that?
Plus there is the whole issue of sandboxing. I think my apps will need no entitlements at all. Do I need to indicate that fact, somehow, somewhere? Some of my apps use the Lingo getPref and setPref commands, but I think that does not require an entitlement. I'm not doing anything special at this point, but might want to make use of Game Center and In-App purchases later.
And then there is this whole business:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5755957#5755957
It seems to me that we on these forums should be discussing all these kinds of issues in detail. It is both very complicated and very important for the many Director developers who would like to publish to the Mac App Store.
I think Adobe could sell more copies of Director 12 to aspiring App Store publishers, if they contributed to their customers' understanding of these issues. But maybe the Adobe people don't have special knowledge on this topic. I fear that we are on our own.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and select the Library that you moved.  That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

    Hi Memalyn
Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

    HI Ana ...
I had FB working again two days ago, and yesterday in mid-serve Safari just "couldn't find the server" once more...
    That's a different issue...
First, if you can just use English, open System Preferences > Language & Text then select the Language tab. Drag English to the top of the list then restart your Mac.
Now for the server issue. Try using Open DNS. That shold help the "couldn't find the server" issue...
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these numbers exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
    Then click OK.
Try accessing Facebook on Safari now.
