Using Live View with PHP

Hi, I'm working locally on a Wordpress site via Dreamweaver in Live View. I can't save a background image in my CSS. It says no link can be found. I'm using MAMP.

PHP pages require a server to render pages in browser. If you want to view PHP pages on your local computer before uploading to remote server, you will need to install a local testing server.
WAMP on Windows - http://www.wampserver.com/en/
XAMPP on Windows - http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html
XAMPP on Mac - http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-macosx.html

• Can't use DW WYSIWYG with php?

Hi,
I'm a graphic designer who has used Dreamweaver for years to design HTML and CSS. I am comfortable jumping back and forth between code and design views to manipulate the code as needed.
I have a new co-collaborator on a project who is extremely knowledgeable about backend/programming stuff (I'm not) and he cut up my original HTML files and turned them into .php files. For efficiency, he is using include files all over the place, which I can totally understand.
However, as I'm way more comfortable designing visually, with the awesome help of DW CS4's interface and code navigator, I feel like I'm floundering trying to manipulate the design now that I'm working with the includes.
I successfully installed XAMPP and am able to view the "complete" web page design using //localhost, or if I'm using "Live View," however, that's the only way to see it all come together. Also, I am now unable to use the code navigator to jump right to the CSS for any given item. Basically, I feel like everything has to be hand coded and previewed in the browser for every single change.
Am I missing something here? Now that all the files are set up as .php, can I no longer use the WYSIWYG features of DW???
Someone pleeeeeease tell me I just need to set some sort of preference. I really need to be able to work these pages as if they are just HTML, with full DW interface "hand-holding" so to speak.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.
-Karen

It depends what you mean by the files being PHP. If the include files consist of HTML, you can certainly edit them, but not in the main file. You need to edit the include file. You cannot edit anything that is dynamically generated by PHP code in a WYSIWYG way.
One way to deal with CSS in include files is to use Design Time Style Sheets (press F1 to look them up in the Help files).

• When using Live View, site looks great, browser testing goes crazy

I am creating a new website (and I am really unexperienced with Dreamwaver CS5). But when I check my site using "Live View" everything looks great, the way it is supposed to. Then when I go to test it in my browswer (Primary browser is Chrome) it goes crazy: I at first noticed that I had saved one copy as an .asp but then resaved it to .xhtml I did delete the first line of code already that the .asp file created as it kept giving me an error on line 1.
Then I tried to do a spry drop-down menu bar, which I have deleted since I thought I was doing something wrong with that and I should just stick to what I half-way know.
If I were to preview the template page it gives me this error:
This page contains the following errors:
error on line 150 at column 76: error parsing attribute name
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.
Here is line 150:
if (a[i].indexOf("#")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a[i];}}
If I were to test the index.xhtml page in the browser, it ignores most images (all but one), and the first nav-bar (an editable region) appears to the left instead of under the header. The layout is totally ignored and everything is on the left-hand side of the screen instead of in a two column layout.
I am not testing this on a server just off of my computer.
I am assuming that the error has something to do with the .asp file I first did and when I resaved it, since I don't know what I would be looking for, is still in there screwing it up.
Here is the code from the template page:

1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
4) If you prefer your nav on the left instead of the right, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all left instead of all right) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in the HTML source.

Instructions

Be aware that the CSS for these layouts is heavily commented. If you do most of your work in Design view, have a peek at the code to get tips on working with the CSS for the fixed layouts. You can remove these comments before you launch your site. To learn more about the techniques used in these CSS Layouts, read this article at Adobe's Developer Center - http://www.adobe.com/go/adc_css_layouts.

Clearing Method

Because all the columns are floated, this layout uses a clear:both declaration in the .footer rule. This clearing technique forces the .container to understand where the columns end in order to show any borders or background colors you place on the .container. If your design requires you to remove the .footer from the .container, you'll need to use a different clearing method. The most reliable will be to add a <br class="clearfloat" /> or <div class="clearfloat"></div> after your final floated column (but before the .container closes). This will have the same clearing effect.

Logo Replacement

An image placeholder was used in this layout in the .header where you'll likely want to place a logo. It is recommended that you remove the placeholder and replace it with your own linked logo.

Logo Replacement

Be aware that if you use the Property inspector to navigate to your logo image using the SRC field (instead of removing and replacing the placeholder), you should remove the inline background and display properties. These inline styles are only used to make the logo placeholder show up in browsers for demonstration purposes.

To remove the inline styles, make sure your CSS Styles panel is set to Current. Select the image, and in the Properties pane of the CSS Styles panel, right click and delete the display and background properties. (Of course, you can always go directly into the code and delete the inline styles from the image or placeholder there.)

Backgrounds

By nature, the background color on any div will only show for the length of the content. This means if you're using a background color or border to create the look of a side column, it won't extend all the way to the footer but will stop when the content ends. If the .content div will always contain more content, you can place a border on the .content div to divide it from the column.

References Available! We accept cash, check, Visa, Discover, MasterCard

I'm assuming this is a static web site. Rename (F2) all your pages with .html or .htm extension.
.xhtml is not a valid extension.

Hi Ben,
How did you design the filter on the view?
This error usually occurred when people use SQL T-SQL. Here are two similar posts , please check whether they are useful for you:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e1ba76f9-855f-4087-91a7-c3e492e59be4/conversion-failed-when-converting-the-nvarchar-value-xxxxxx-to-data-type-int?forum=transactsql

Please create a new list, and create a new view, then add a filter on the view, compare the result.
I hope this helps.

• Using Incontext editing with PHP pages

Hi,
Has anyone established whether you can use incontext editing
with php pages. My site works perfectly except for the pages i have
created in php. The reason i have used php is that they are secure
that only certain users can access.
The error message that comes up is: "No input file specified.
" But the page is up.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.
Chris

Hello Chris,
Yes, it is possible to edit PHP pages with InContext Editing,
however InContext Editing should not be used to edit dynamic
content in PHP pages. If you edit dynamic content that is loaded
into an InContext Editing editable region, it will be overwritten
as static content.
In regards to the problem you're experiencing, it appears to
be an issue with the HEAD http request. InContext Editing is using
HEAD requests to check the existence of the draft and published
versions of the current page (in your case, InContext Editing is
making a request for products_bedroom_draft.php). If those calls do
not work as expected (the HEAD should return status code 200/304 if
the checked page exists, 404 otherwise) then you will experience
this behavior.
A HEAD http request for products_bedroom_draft.php is
returning a 502 Bad Gateway status code which is not what InContext
Editing expects.
Please contact your web hosting provider for assistance with
this server issue. This will likely require changes in web server
configuration.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

• Dreamweaver crashes when using Live View to preview SWF in HTML page

I'm new to DW CS4 and I'm trying to insert an swf on a blank html page. When I attempt to use "live view" to preview Dreamweaver crashes every time. I can view the page when I preview in a browser though. Is there something new in CS4 I'm missing?
Please help!
Thanks.

• How to Live View with external CSS files?

I am using a simple HTML page that references several external CSS style sheets. The style sheets are site root relative. The code validates.
http://www.sandsmuseum.com/coinop/games/evansraces/documentation/index.html
In Dreamweaver, the page looks good in Design View. Previewing in a browser looks good when the box to save temporary files is checked (replaces css inline for the input to the browser.)
However the page is missing the CSS and an image that is site root relative when I try to view it with Live View.
Does Live View only work with a test server? I tried setting up a test server that points to the remote server but that does not seem to help.
I am sure I am missing something. Can someone please help?
Thanks,
Michael

Apparently I did not ask the question correctly or even make it interesting. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I might ask the question next time?
thanks

• T4i Strobe Refiring issues after using Live View to preview the shot just taken.

I have a Canon t4i and am using it in Live View, and have attached a Paul Buff transmitter to my hotshoe to fire the Strobe, but if I go and review my shot, the strobe will not refire, I must first turn of my camera. IF I don't review my shot, the strobe will refire, no issues. Any ideas why this is occuring?

I have no idea... You should get in touch with the folks at Paul Buff to see if there is a known issue.

• In accurate live view with Phone spec rendering?

I find the live view iphone rendering to be basicly unreliable. Can not use it. It renders at 2x or 1/2 size? Is this a retina issue for iphone 5? I also tried it in the X code with lphone simulator and the physical phone itself with my Apple provision certicate. Same effect? I re-booted and started from scratch, it worked for one iteration. then the issue re appeard?. Desktop renderings are rock solid. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
Tom.

Hello Tom,
Does the phone layout looks cornered on one side of the screen, with blank space on the other side?
If that is the case, can you check if it is a problem with some content lying there on the side which appears blank as explained in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5697311#5697311
Hope this helps.

• Error when using Analytic view with Input Parameters

Hi,
I am trying to create an info space based on my Analytic view which has input parameters. The infospace is validated and indexed without any issue. However when I ran the view, I get an error (50011) as it is unable to fetch any results. I tried using an infospace based on Calculation view with input parameters and the explorer view works without any issue.
Has anyone faced similar issues?
We are using HANA SP 6 rev 67 and BI 4.0 SP 4.
Also is there a way to enable input prompts for the users when they refresh the BO Explorer view? If not currently available is there any work around ?
Thanks

Hello George,
I don't have any personalization set on the info space. Also I am using mapped Account in BI to connect to HANA. The confusing part is that it is able to validate the infospace with the input parameters and index it. However query does not return any results. I even tried running the same query which explorer sends to HANA in the SQL editor and there too the same results, the query does not return anything. The model does return data when I do a data preview and if accessed from other tools like AAO.
Also when I use SSO connection to HANA, indexing of the infospace fails. Where can I see the error log?
Thanks,

• Flickering problem with live viewing with IMAQ Image Display

Hi everyone,
I am trying to write a program to do live imaging with Andor camera. I am using some examples from Andor. The images are acquired in sequence and send into IMAQ Image Display and also Intensity Graph. There is minimal flickering issue in the Intensity Graph but there is very bad flickering problem in IMAQ Image Display. Perhaps I misunderstand how to optimize the vision tools. Does anyone know how to overcome this issue? I have attached the code that I am testing. Thanks in advance.

You can use Vision Assistant to test our vision functions. Vision Assistant is really meant to prototype - it does not have all teh functionality of Vision Development Module and is not as flexible as we don't allow you access to all the settings for every function.
I recommend starting in Vision Assistant and then porting over to LabVIEW or C (whatever you are most comfortable with)...this is built-in functionality. There is nothing wrong with using Vision Assistant to do live imaging, just that you run into limitations and you will only be able to use this code on computers that have Vision Assistant.
Hope this helps.

• Using inline view with NOT IN clause

I have a query with a NOT IN clause in the where clause that I would like to convert to an inline view. The select looks something like this:
select uid, SYSDATE from tab1, tab2
where tab1.uid = tab2.uid
and ...
and tab1.uid not in (select uid from tab3 where....)
I've used inline queries elsewhere to great effect, but this one has me stumped. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

There can be problem with using not in or not exists depending on the amount of data in the tables and the relationship between them.
I didn't got if you had problem with the existing SQL-statement, created view or both.
Check statistics and look at explain plan for the sql-statement and the view.
The problem can actually be some where clause that you have in the sql-statement but not in the view, but apply later when using the view.
