Using MacMail

When I use MacMail to send email, the paper clip showing attachments does not show up in my "sent" box or when I am composing the message and preparing to send it.  And when I receive email with attachments, usually that is not indicated with a paper clip either.  However, if I actually open up the email, the attachments are shown at the top.  I like to verify that MacMail has sent the attachments, but this process seems laborious.  Is there a setting which would allow me to call up an icon in my mailboxes (like on the PC) that will indicate which emails have attachments associated with them?
On a related note, is it possible to get the imac to stop stripping attached images into the body of the emails that I send?  I like to send photos as attachments, not as part of the body of the emails.
I am using an imac 10.5.6 OS.

Sorry, but when I right-click on "To", nothing happens.  I can still type in that box though.  I do not get columns in my email boxes, only rows, so I am not sure what I should be dragging, sorry.  I can fill in the "To" box and add the attachments, they just do not show up with an icon (paper clip), either as I am composing the message or after I send it.  So it is difficult to verify that it actually included the attachment.  I see some other discussion traffic on this subject, so maybe this is just a weakness of the Mac?

Btinternet being your internet service provider? If I'm correct, have you followed their directions:

  • How do I get macmail to show amount of emails in my INBOX, as it used to do?

I use macmail and with my INBOX, there used to be a total count of emails in there in parentheses after INBOX. I still have the amount listed in the sent, trash, delete sections, but it is not appearing after INBOX.  How do I get it to once again show the amount of emails?

Double tap above the INBOX or ALL INBOXES and the list will advance automatically to the most recent email or the top of the email list.

  • I downloaded Office for Mac 2011, and almost immediately my Yahoo email stopped working, most images were disabled throughout my internet sites, and my bank site reported that I was using a "new computer," which is not true. How can I get my email to work

I have an iMac version 10.6.8/2.66 GHz Intel Processor and 4 GB memory, with Safari 5.1.10. I had used Office for Mac 2008 but had to upgrade for work. The download (from Amazon) went swiftly, but when I started Word, it did not function too well. Then about an hour later I noticed that my Yahoo email site stopped working, it lost all images and the text just jumbled up on the left side of the screen. No amount of emptying caches or resets/quits/restarts did anything. I called the Internet support, and they just said it was my iMac that had the problem. I have been reduced to using MacMail as my email, but this is tenuous, as my Yahoo account keeps holding things up and constantly asking me for my password (and sometimes it does not accept it). How can I get my computer back?

The path may be long and tedious, grasshopper.
Actually, the download of Office 2011 for Mac probably was not legal and may have contained bugs or other things meant to make it unstable, or invite a host of issues. The usual path would be Office 2011 for Mac on DVD so you could reinstall it and add the extras from the disc as needed; or fix the installation later on. The updates for security were downloads from Microsoft servers. You'd need a legitmate version with pass code.
Options for Mac and office-like application suites include Libre Office, NeoOffice, and these run free. The latter supports up to Mavericks. 10.9.1 now. They have a word, excel, and other parts a lot like the real office.
If you have a working clone of the system prior to installing the Office 2011 for Mac download and any subsequent and perhaps unseen extras, you could revert to it simply by restarting the computer from the clone, where it resides in externally enclosed self-powered hard disk drive, of a type known to support OS X clones... With ports to help work with most modern Macs. FireWire + USB. Then, clone it back w/ carbon copy cloner.
Short of that, perhaps someone will see your post and offer some indepth method of hunting down bugs via use of Console logs; and maybe booting into Terminal utility to use unix code. It can be rather involved. Maybe Linc Davis will offer some detailed reply that will invite you to read carefully and try it.
I've given up using computers long ago.

  • How do I change an IMAP MacMail acct. to a POP acct on my iMac?

    Hello,
I have an iMac OS 10.6.8 and am using MacMail through AT&T (I know, yuck). Today I created a new macmail account. I noticed it automatically created an IMAP account. I also noticed the incoming and outgoing mail servers didn't match my other email accounts (all POP accounts) so I changed them (along w/the Port # & a few other things). When I first changed the incoming mail server to pop.att.yahoo, I noticed the Account Type changed to att.net POP. Yay! But somewhere along the line, it's back to an IMAP account w/all the POP settings.   ???
I cannot find any information at AT&T nor here about how to change an IMAP account to a POP account. As I mentioned, MacMail did NOT offer me a choice when creating this new email account and there is no button-down option to choose POP on Account Type.  Any suggestions?  Did something in MacMail change in the past year or two?
    Thank you!
    lablady

Lablady here--> I can't seem to find a way to edit my initial post so I'm adding information in a reply:
From further research & chatting with AT&T, they keep asking me to "Deselect "Automatically set up account" if it is enabled." and that that button should be on the first window when I click to Add an Account.  It is NOT there.
I've been searching the Internet and have found nothing that offers an explanation although I have seen other people asking a similar question: "Can you create a POP account with macmail 4.5?" which seems to say that someone else is having the same problem that I'm having.
Also, it was suggested that perhaps I have reached my limit of POP accounts, so macmail won't create another one. I have my primary account plus 4 sub accounts with POP. I've never heard of any limits on POP or IMAP accounts, have you?
This really is ridiculous. If there is a way to DeSelect Automatically setting up the accounts, can someone send me a screen shot? Or was that option removed with macmail 4.5?? I've been through all the information within macmail: General, Accounts, RSS, Junk Mail, Fonts & colors, Viewing, Composing, Signatures, Rules and don't see a thing about that. I've also looked through the macmail drop-down choices: Mail, File, Edit, etc. and don't see anything that says to DeSelect or even TO Select this option.  What am I missing?
I don't like having anything on servers. I want my mail downloaded onto my computer & immediately deleted from the server. I really need to get this email up and running in POP so I would appreciate any ideas, suggestions you have.  Many thanks!

  • I'd like to use this mail sometime

Hi. I've never been able to use Macmail or learn any of its features. I set up this whole thing including the password and it's never been accepted. Is there a simple and easy way of doing this? I've read all posts and finally had to make one of my own. Should I make a new password? I don't know very much about this whole system (new Mac user) especially the keychain business.

    Hello Todd.
You have a .Mac trial version or you purchased a .Mac account or is the email account you are trying to use with Mail provided by your ISP or an email account provider?
Regarding the Keychain business, the following links may be helpful. You can also use the Finder help with a Keychain search.

Mac OS X: About using a keychain to avoid typing passwords
You can use a keychain to keep track of passwords for applications, servers, Web sites, or even sensitive information unrelated to computing, such as credit card numbers or banking personal identification numbers (PINs).
When you open an application or connect to a server or site using software that's keychain-aware, your keychain provides the password so you don't have to type it.

  • Port 993 error message, now can't set up MacMail for GMail account.

I've been using MacMail for years without a problem. Recently a little exclamation point came up with an error message indicating that the server couldn't connect with the 993 port for my Gmail account. After trying to update my software, restart the program, etc etc I deleted the account, thinking I'd just recreate a MacMail connection to my Gmail account. Not I'm receiving an error message that the server imap.gmail.com is not responding, and I can not set up a MacMail account linked to my Gmail.
I've seen lots of people with this problem, but no sufficient answers to correct it. I am not using a portable device, I am using my iMac to try to make this happen.
Please help! Any incite is much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Emily

    Hi Emily,
For port 993, is SSL checked & authentication = Password?
    Could this be it?
    Gmail send but not receive...
Here are two steps that have come in handy in related situations
    1) login to gmail on your computer or device via a web browser
    2) once logged in successfully, go to this URL to unlock:

  • Using Outlook to send photos

Aperture is setup to use Macmail to attach photos, is there a way to use Office Mac 2011 Outlook to do the same ?

Aperture can work with Mail, Entourage, Eudora and AOL.
There is a thread on the forum that describes how to hack the Entourage script for Outlook.
Or just use the Media Browser in Outlook.

  • Just used Migration Assistant and can't access files, get message

I just used Migration Assistant to move files (per directions on screen) from my older iMac to new G4 running 10.4.1. It seems as though everything has transferred, but when I try to open folders that have migrated, I get a window that says, "The folder could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges".
Is there a way to obtain these privileges? Not sure how to proceed. If not, should I scrap everything and just drag and drop files? I had hoped to preserve all of my settings, address books, older email (using macmail program), etc...
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hello christine:
Do you really mean OS X 10.4.1? The current level is now OS X 10.4.11.
Try running permission repair from disk utility. If that does not work, I think I would do an archive and install on the G4:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Than would install a pristine OS X (which would need to be updated while preserving your files, programs, and settings.

    Hi,
Please refer to the following link http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3581
For changing the HTTP, you need to do it outside the muse after exporting the site or after uploading it to godaddy.

I recently upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2 - since then, when using Macmail, every t ime I type and asterisk (') the cursor jumps to the next line. Anybody know a fix?

I'm not having that problem but there was a previous discussion where several people reported that turning off smart quotes resolved the issue for them. That setting is in Apple menu > System Preferences > Keyboard > Text

  • Muse/BC and MacMail integration 2-9-14-Pls help!

Hi All...sorry for a simple questions but I am at my wits end trying to getting this to work. I was tranferring, my exising personal Muse website/email accounts to BC so I
can easily update the site vs FTP uploads and get more familiar with it so the more sites I do for clients I can promote the service better. That being said, I just want to be able to continue to use MacMail to get all my email on my imac and iphone etc.. I followed the directions I got from Adobe support best I could and it did not work not matter what I tried. I used the mail.domain.com for incoming and outgoing server as instructed and it just would not work. Shouldn't this be really easy? I have a client I am did for a website for which is going to go live soon I did and am worried about tranferring the clients email to BC. Any suggestions to make this transition would be greatly appreciated! I really love this software and have done pretty good with the technical stuff so far, but I am stumped? Thanks again for any suggestions...

Site Settings -Site users? I do not have that option listed? I forget to mention that before?
Here is what is showing on my dashboard? Please advise....maybe that is part the problem? I looked everywher and do not see a dialog box like that?

  • MacMail keeps turning my forwarded emails into text attachments

I need help. I use Macmail as my business email address and when I forward an email I want it to stay in the body of my email and instead mail changes the forwarded emails into text file attachments. No one is opening them or seeing them. They don't want to open attachments because they are too busy. Please help, I want to keep my forwards in the same email as my new note. I tried turning off Rich text in the preferences and that didn't help. It still does it using plain text. I have a jpg as part of my signature that goes under my new note, not at the bottom of the forward. I'm using MacMail 4.3 and OS 10.6.4.

You have to get rid of that JPG in your signature and also make sure to remove any styled fonts or colors too. When you do anything fancy in your signature, that will turn your message into a Rich Text message, regardless of what Apple Mail says it is.

  • How can I embed a photo into macmail?

I don't want to send it as an attachment but would like for it to show up in the body of the e-mail. What should the format be? I've tried cutting and pasting but that ends up as an attachment. Thanks!

If you are using macmail - and your photo is in iPhoto - as others suggested you can just drag and drop it... after selecting new message. However, as far as the recipient, that mail program may or may not display it that way and you would have to check the settings as other suggested.
I would tend to think that most mail programs would not show embedded pictures as a security precaution. There may be settings within the recipients email program to allow for thus -- you would have to check & would depend on the mail program itself
