Using MDW to drop publication

I created a publication using Mobile Database Workbench (MDW).
I can now see the publication in the mobile manager. I can also see the "replicatoin objects" created in the "owning" schema and in the MOBILEADMIN schema. (These are well described in this thread: Tables "CEQ$table_name" vs "table_name" )
I then opened my publication again in MDW and chose
Project | Drop from Repository | Publicatioin
I then received a dialog asking "Are you sure you want to continue with the drop operation". The "Drop From Repository" check box was checked. I clicked Yes.
Result:
The publication no longer appears in mobile manager.
However, the replication objects still remain. These are:
* The CVR$<tablename> tables
* The CEQ$<tablename> tables
* The triggers on the replicated tables
* The objects and rows created in MOBILEADMIN
How are these supposed to be removed?
Are they removable with MDW or must the Java API be used to remove?
For that matter, can anyone explain why I would want to use the Java API's as opposed to MDW, or even as opposed to the Packaging Wizard to create publications?
I'm finding all the different ways to do things mentioned in the docs to be quite confusing.

Hi,
I'm used to work directly with the Java API. I don't know how buggy is current version of MDW or Packaging wizard, but in previous releases these tools had very serious bugs, which forced me to use the API solely. I have developed some simple tools to manage the mobile server through the API effectively so I don't see any reason why to take a risk in using the gui tools anymore... Maybe, you just faced some of the bugs, because when I use the API to drop some of the publications or publication items, it removes also the subsequent tables. So, I would reccomend to try to remove the object using directly the Java API...

How do i drag indicator control type on WPF instead of using Drag and Drop points

In my WPF application, i have a window which is docked with the screen. i want to automate to expand the window using an Indicator control type, by sliding it. As of now i use StartDrag and StopDrag using specific points, which is not correct when it runs
in many other screens.
Could you please let me know, is there way to slide the control (to set window display size to viewable) without using drag and drop action using points.

Do you mean that the control of the WPF is invisible and you want to set the window display size to make it visible? If so, I think you could use the Mouse.MoveScrollWheel Method to change the windows view until the control is visible. The link below might

Creating a formula using a alphabetic drop down list?

I am creating a work sheet using formulas and drop down list. I have one drop down list that has a list of name and the second list is a list of letter that correspond to those names. (ex: column "J" on line "4 - 29" there is the letter
"A-Z" and then continues , in column "K" line "4" starts the list of names. In Cell B4 is the drop down list of names in column "K" to choose from, I would like the letter that corresponds to that name automatically

Right column.

I think you are talking about the [[Bookmarks Toolbar]]. That article will show you how to add sites to the toolbar and even how to display the toolbar if it is hidden in your new Firefox install.

You really should be doing backups with an actual backup application, especially one that will work automatically, and, if your external HD is large enough, back up your entire system. These can automatically back up only what's changed since the previous backup, and some will keep "archive" copies of things you've changed or deleted, also.
Too many things can go wrong, such as your internal HD failing, and you'll have a major project to reinstall everything.
You already have Time Machine, built-in to OSX. You might want to review the Time Machine Tutorial, and perhaps browse Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
#27 in the second link mentions some alternatives, too.

Images resizing when using drag and drop

We just recently got PS Elements 7. I have a blank image that is sized at 600 x 1662 pixels. When I want to put a photo into that blank, I make sure that the photo is 600 pixels high. With 6, what I used drag and drop from the bin, the photo fit perfectly. With 7 it is apparently resizing the photo and I have to stretch it to fit. Is this something that I have set wrong? If I am making sure that both items should fit together based on number of pixels, why is one changing size? Something has to be changing size or the items would fit together. I am assuming that something is set wrong, because this just does not strike me a something that should happen, or the program is not a very efficient photo editor. If necessary I will go back to 5.0, although there are things that I like better in 7.

I'm frankly surprised you had success with this in PSE 6, since the past two versions create a special kind of smart object from images dragged up from the bin. You can use copy/paste to create a regular layer, or you can drag down to a thumbnail in the bin from an open image, but the project bin doesn't let you drag up anymore, by design.
Did you mean to say PSE 5 rather than 6? It worked normally there.

I have a heirarchical embedded folder structure under \Documents. Usually, as I drag the file to be moved over the various folders, they will blink twice, then expand/open to reveal contents (in Finder). Now, when the file to be moved is held (hovering) over the destination folder, it will not blink or expand, so there's no place to drop the file. If I release the mouse button, the file image disappears, showing that it is "going back to the place it came from", a.k.a. was not moved. This just started happening. I noticed it after upgrading to Mavericks. Is this a bug or could anything else be causing this?

As of today, Apple Support discovered during a remote support session with me that the same thing happens on their own system. It is isolated to "Column View"; the Icon and List views in Finder behave correctly. Issue is being escalated to engineering, and Apple will call to report status in a couple days. In all likelihood, this is a bug that will need to be addressed in a future update.

Transfering files using drag and drop to Nano P

I havent installed the supplied disks that came with my Nano Plus but am transfering files using drag and drop from "my music" folder on my computer to the Nano. These files are stored on my computer as the Name of the Artist as the folder name with a sub folder named the CD title (default setting when using Windows media to rip) with the individual track files in that folder.
When I drag the main folder over to my Nano it just displays the Album title on the screen but not by artist and there is no way to select by artist (you can just switch "folders" on the Nano which will then display the CD title. If I used the supplied software with my Nano to transfer the files will I be able to choose by artist, CD, Genre, etc or is this not a function of the Nano?
Is it best to just select the individual song tracks and throw them in one large group on the Nano and then it can figure out which artist, album, genre they belong to?

The player will only show directories that contain music files.
The behaviour you want is common on players that manage their content with a database (typically HD-based devices), but Creative's flash players don't work that way (and the software used on the host computer doesn't have any influence on this - the user interface is controlled by the player's firmware).

Programatic Generation and positioning of components using Drag and Drop

I am relatively new to ADF and UI Designing. Im trying to generate a flowchart using drag and drop feature in ADF. This involves creation of dragging images such as start,decision .. etc from one panel to another and dynamically creating a flowchart.
Up to now i have managed to drag images from panel1 to panel2 and create them dynamically in the bean class. However im stuck at this point .. Im not able to position the draggable components on the desired position in the panelGroup. They either appear horizontally or vertically.
Is there any way to achieve this. Also is it possible to assign a dropTarget to a a target component which is created dynamically ?

I am too only 4 months old to adf ,i use jdeveloper 10g.
In 10g for the components to be placed at desired locations i think is somewhat possible. While you can arrange them by using spaces which causes
f:verbatim tag to appear or you can use ADF Faces Core items like Object Spacer and Object Seperator where you can set their length and width to space objects on page...

Illustrator CS6 crashes using Effect Stylize Drop Shadow. There's a work-around

Illustrator CS6 crashes when using Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow on a regular shape e.g. rectangle created by the Ractangle Tool.
I select the shape, apply the effect and it will crash giving this warning dialog: "The operation cannot complete of an unknown error: [CANT]". Then Illustrator CS6 crashes.
This is the crash report in Windows 7 32-bit:
Faulting application name: Illustrator.exe, version: 16.0.0.682, time stamp: 0x4f6e762b
Faulting module name: MMXCore.8BX_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4f44e8d6
Exception code: 0xc0000005
The crash happens about 90% of the time.
Possible work-around:
Since I experienced some strange behaviour of CS6 applications before, I experimented witn running Illustrator as an administrator (elevated privileges). When I do that, I can apply the effect without Illustrator CS6 crashing. Here I go again..elevated privileges (see http://forums.adobe.com/message/4432510) .
I have to admit, this is one of the many strange behaviours in CS6 applications that make their performance and reliability very unpredictable.

Because there's no need to do a "repair permissions" thing, that being a bizarre Apple concept. Thanks LowLuster! With that info I have another questions if that's ok. First, I'm sure it's formatted to fat32. I have learned I can't transfer movies over 4gb. I use an external hard drive for those. The files are ones I've downloaded from YouTube in the mp4 format and are never over 1gb. They're all mb in size.
I didn't realize flash drives had limited writes. Is there any way to confirm I've reached the limit? Both times I reformatted it I was able to add back the videos I previously had on it. I would say there were a hundred or so. Both times I left some "growing room" on the flash drive so I could add more files. And, both times I was able to continuing adding until I had reached the max capacity. The problem occured after I tried deleting files to free up space. Does this make sense with "the amount you have used it" theory? Does it start to become buggy at that point, or does it just make writes to the drive impossible?

Zap the PRAM and see if that changes things.

Data Subsetting using MDW

I am using Mobile Data Workbench to create data publications for users on win32 laptops.
While creating publication items, I would like to use parameters whose values I would like to specify using some variables, instead of manually keying them in for each user. Is there some way that I can specify the user name as the value for the parameter? Then I can use the same publication for multiple users and the data subsetting is done by the variable which gets its value dynamically from the user name to whom it is published.

I have not done this with MDW as such, but to include user based data subserring do the following
1) work out how you are going to identify the records for a particular user for the publication items in question. I know this sounds a bit obvious, but it is worth giving this some thought. Is the data directly in the table/view the publication item is based on? do you need to include some subselect to obtain the correct values (consider building a database view to help with this)? are the columns and joins all indexed (otherwise you will have performance problems in the compose process/download)
2) the basic template given by the system for a publication item is 'SELECT * FROM <schema_owner>.TABLE' change this to something like one of the following (dependant on circumstance)
'SELECT * FROM <schema_owner>.TABLE where USER=:user'
'SELECT * FROM <schema_owner>.TABLE where ID IN (select id from <schema_owner.view where USER=:user)'
'SELECT t.* FROM <schema_owner>.TABLE t, <schema_owner>.TABLE2 t2 where t1.ID=t2.ID and t2.USER=:user'
all of these will work.
NOTE <schema_owner> is needed for ALL objects included in the template
NOTE the colon (:) used to identify the bind variable
3) publish the new/altered publication items, and you will find in the mobile manager that under the users>applications tab, there will be a link in the data subsetting tab (probably called the oracle lite client type). click on this and you will get a screen with all of the bind variables you have defined for the application, with a place to add in the values for that user.
Couple of points
a) all bind variables (or data subsetting parameters) are held and tested as VARCHAR2. If you are matching to numerics in the base tables, do 'where ID=TO_NUMBER(:user)' otherwise you will get typecasting and this will affect your performance
b) run conspef on the resultant publication items and check all parts for performance. The apply process uses the publication item priimary key for its selection, whilst the compose uses the selection criteria. You may need to tune for both options
c) you can include multiple subsetting parameters for an application, but this may give more of a maintenance overhead
d) the subsetting parameters are part of the application. If you have two or more applications being used by a user, you will have to include them in each
e) the subsetting parameters can be included in the user setup ini script run by wsh as well
