Using Pages to edit document created in Word...Help!

Hi! I'm fairly new to Mac and am experiencing much frustration while trying to edit a Word-created document in Pages. This document contained page numbers in the footer that I need to edit. Unfortunately, I am unable to change the page numbers in Pages. I try to click on the numbers and it doesn't do a thing. When I bring up the footer section in Pages, the text box falls just to the left of the page number.
Any input would be appreciated SO much! I'm getting tired of borrowing a friend's computer to do work that I'm pretty sure I can do on my Mac.

Welcome to Apple discussions.
This issue comes up rarely, but it is a known problem. There's something odd about how some Word files get translated into Pages format -- the page numbers get a little screwy. There are two things I can think of to try: 1) Click on Format > Advanced > Make Master Objects Selectable. If this works, you should now be able to select the page number ... or 2) Insert a small rectangle, wrap off, colored white, over the page number, then put a proper page number in either the header or the footer.
Just so you know, I receive Word docs all the time with page numbers in them, and they translate fine. But every now and then I hear tales of the same problem you're having.

iwork for ios accepts for upload and also happily opens all your Microsoft office files, from Office97 standard doc/xls/ppt to the 2011 versions of docx,xlsx,pptx and various other of these format extensions.
Notice : the upload feature in www.icloud.com is only active if you in fact own these apps on your iPhone/Pad/pod. it is not a feature of iWork for the Mac ( iwork09 ) which itself is not icloud capable at all.

I have just purchased an iPad 2 32Gb. I want to be able to use it for work.
I need to be able open and edit documents created in Microsoft Office. Primarily .doc and .docx files. Is this possible? or am I better with D2 or Documents to Go.
Also, can I save a document attachment from an email and open it on my iPad for reviewing and editing?

Yes, "pages.app" will open these files. In the same manner "numbers.app" will open xls,xlsx and "keynote.app" will open powerpoint files.
iwork09 files from a Mac can also be opened. And you can save each files back in various file formats, also save them as pdf.

Yes. "open in .." then a suitable app is in the list : say you get a docx, then pages will be presented as app to open it.

That can't be right.
The Mac runs OSX of some description.
Your iPad runs iOS 7.04.
Pages '09 runs on the Mac.
What do you mean by 4 pane window?
Are you sure you are not running Mac OSX 10.9 Mavericks and actually have Pages 5 installed?

For some reason my 09' pages will not view documents created in Word 10' any suggestions?

For some reason my 09' Pages will not open any documents from 10' Word. It simply opens up blank. Any suggestions?

I updated my pages and os. I am currently running 09' pages and os 10.6.7. The link I gave you earlier was not correct. I have attached one I just opened up with microsoft word on another computer. My pages opens up but is blank. The link is below:

The only other thing is that word opened it up in compatibility mode and said that the document originated from the internet. Could this be something that is causing pages to not open? Thanks for all of your help.

Unable to edit PDF created by Word 2011 on Lion.

Two weeks ago I upgrade my 24-inch iMac from Snow Leopard to Lion on which I am running Adone Acrobat 9 Pro (with all the latest updates).
My challenge is that I am trying to edit a PDF file created using Microsoft Word 2011 for Mac. When I print the file from Microsoft Word 2011 for Mac and click on the PDF button, the only option I see to create a PDF file is "Save as PDF", so this is the only option open to me. (I seem to recall that there used to be a 'Save as Adobe PDF' optionm, that is no longer there.
When I open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro I get the folloiwng message:
"Acrobat was unable tp make this
document accessible because of the
following error:
Bad PDF; error in processing fonts.
<unsupported Type 2 font>[1]
Please not that some pages of this
document may have been changed.
Because of this failure, you are advised to
not save these changes."
Any thoughts as to how I can create a file using Microsoft Word 2011 for Mac and then be able to edit it in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro?

Help me with a document created on WORD.

Can you help me please? On screen I have a document I composed on WORD, but I cannot move the page upward to read the bit at the bottom, as I cannot see and arrows at the side, to put my curser on. What should I do? There are 18 pages to this document, but I am stuck on its first page.

What to do depends on the version of Word. In Office 2008 (the first version to run natively on an Intel Mac) , look at the lower left corner of the window. Make sure you are in either "Draft View":
or "Print Lauout View":
The other views are harder to use.
Also see if changing the "Zoom" options helps:
Did you create the document or did sonmeone else do it on a Windows computer? If the latter and they have Office 2010 for Windoze and you have a older Mac version, ask them to resend as an Office 2007 document.
If these don't help, and considering Office is not an Apple product, it would be a good idea to post in the Microsoft Office for Mac forums here:

Be sure to select the correct version of Office you have and show what Mac OS you are running. That will save time.

Using Pages to edit existing HTML??

How useful/user-friendly is PAGES for this: I have some pre-existing Web pages, created for me by someone using Dreamweaver & GoLive. All I want to do is edit the text and images, maybe mess with the tables? Possible?? Or more of a hassle than it's worth???

Pages can only open raw HTML files, which means that if you want to pull the web pages into Pages for editing, you won't see the images. I think this likely far more hassle that it's worth -- you'd be better off learning a little HTML, and editing the code directly in a text editor like TextEdit, or an HTML editor like the fabulous and free Taco HTML Edit.

Remove watermark in Pages (in a doc created in Word)

I cannot work out how to do this. I can make the master object selectable, but when I delete it, although the watermark disappears, there is still an icon that remains on all the pages in the document.
Please help!

Welcome to the forum.
+Menu > View > Show Layout+
There is probably something on top of it. Hold down the command key and click outside of the margins to get the pointer tool then drag select into the document. If you pick up more than one object, shift click on one to unselect it.
If the object has light crosses on the corners, it is locked:
+Menu > Arrange > Unlock+
If it is a background object:
+Menu > Arrange > Make Background Objects Selectable+
If it is a master object:
+Menu > Format > Advanced > Make Master Objects Selectable+

How could i block a document in Pages from editing and create editable fields in it?

Construct your document with spaces for the editable fields, then use Print > PDF > Save PDF file to convert that to a PDF image file.
Insert the file into a new pages word processing document as a floating object, then resize it to match the original size.
Move the image to the background and Lock it.
Insert a text box, place and size it for each field, and add some Placeholder text to each field. When set as Placeholder text, clicking on the text will select all of it, and anything typed will immediately replace the placeholder.
Limitations:
The text box cannot be locked in position without also preventing it from bring edited.
An editable textbox will not adjust to accommodate extra text. Adjusting it manually will not affect the underlying image.

I'm getting a glitch in Acrobat XI PDF document created from Word.

I have been using Microsoft Word 2010 and Acrobat for many years.
I have this Word document (a user manual) with images that I've pasted into from MS Paint. Then I add some arrows and call-outs.
I save my Word document with the Save as Adobe PDF option.
The resultant PDF is great but the images are in front of the arrows and call-outs.
But when I use the Save As option and choose the PDF type (of file format), it works fine: the images are in the back of the arrows and call-outs.
It seems to be a bug in the Save as Adobe PDF function. Or is it a user error?

Thank you for your response. You could be correct. It could be a Word problem with the Save as Adobe PDF option.
I tried the Save As option and selected the PDF Save as type, and it does work. (I selected the option to Create bookmarks using Headings, and that works great fortunately).
I have narrowed the problem to a simple test case, that you can try.
Create a new blank document in Word 2010.
Insert a header and a footer. (I chose the Austere).
Put a heading on the page. (I used the Heading 1 and typed This is a heading.)
Insert a line shape. (Insert | Shapes | select a line and draw a line).
Paste in a small image. (I did an Alt-Prnt screen of a small window, and then did a Ctrl+V to paste it into the Word document).
Move the line so that it is partly on and partly off the image.
Save the document.
Save it using the Save as Adobe PDF option.
It will open Adobe Reader or Acrobat and it will look correct. The line will be above the image.
Close the PDF file.
Back in Word, right-click on the image and select the Wrap Text | Behind Text option.
Save the document again.
Save it using Save as Adobe PDF again.
It will open Adobe Reader or Acrobat and it will not be correct. The line will be below the image.
So I think this points to the Save as Adobe PDF option as the problem.

My cover image is bigger than the rest of the document created in word. How can I fix this?

I'm working on creating an ebook. I created my cover in Canva and downloaded it as a jpg file. The rest is in word. When I combine the two into a pdf file though, the cover image fills the screen and the word document shrinks. The whole goals is to have everything the same size page since it will be read on ereaders. How do I fix this?

Best and easiest fixed in Word. Place the JPG on a new page 1 of the Word document, scale it there.

You can directly edit PDF files in PDF format, it may be unnecessary for you save PDF as word. Anyway, if you want to save pdf as word and found that the text are images, you need to make use the original page is a image, not editable text. Have you checked that in your Acrobat Pro? You can also use PDF OCR to resolve the problem--tranfer images to editable text. Google is good buddy to help you find some free applications. Be well.
