Using Sensitive Data in Flash

Hello,
I am working on a Flash project for the web which will be using some sensitive information (for example, username, password). I am concerned about putting that data directly in the Flash file (that is, in the Actionscript used in the Flash file) in case someone decides to try to download and crack the swf. Although I am sure someone else has had to deal with this issue, I cannot seem to find a solution.
The solution I have attempted to implement is as follows.
Place the sensitive data in an external file (I am using an XML file).
Load the data into the Flash file at runtime.
Secure the data file.
Step #3 is where I am running into trouble. I have attempted the following methods of securing the data file.
1) Place the data file in a directory that is not accessible from the web (for example, underneath public_html). This method failed presumably because the web browser needs to access the directory?
2) Place the data file in a web accessible directory that has been password protected via .htaccess. This method fails because a visitor is prompted to enter a password in order for data to be loaded into the Flash file.
3) Use .htaccess to only allow access to the data file and/or its directory from the same domain. Once again, this fails presumably the request from the web browser is coming from the visitor's IP?

Right tried that and the preloader wont display, even when I simulate download at a slower speed.
To make sure I am doing this right:
I have my slideshow in layer1. It starts in frame2, I have my preloader in frame1.
I then make a new layer which appears above layer1, in that I go to the end of my slideshow and click at the end.
I then goto window - action and then enter the code you gave me.
If that is right then the screen stays blank until the slideshow starts, no preloader.
Am I doing this right?

Date Picker Result Used in Query for Flash Chart

Hello,
I'm creating a flash chart using an SQL Query. The query uses two date pickers for the beginning and ending date of the data the query returns. For some reason the substitution string for the data pickers do not work and do not return any data. If I hard wire the start and end date to something like '12/01/2008' and '01/31/2009' the query and the flash chart work just fine. When use the string representing the data pickers (:P65_BEGIN_DATE and :P65_END_DATE) the query does not return any data. Is there some problem using substitution strings in queries for flash charts??

I look at the debug output without changing anything and I am not really sure where the two date pickers are being populated. However I do have defaults set up for each datepicker of:
P65_BEGIN_DATE: to_char(sysdate - 30, 'DD-MON-YYYY')
P65_END_DATE: to_char(sysdate, 'DD-MON-YYYY')
and the dates I would expect show up in the date picker.
Also I created a Computation of Before Header type with the following PL/SQL expression:

and I see the following output when in debug mode:

Custom Map in flash using XML data for dynamic map and point of intrest loading...

Been some time since I have used Flash for anything...
I'm working on a little project to dynamically build a map
and set points of interest on the map. At this time I have the
(mySQL) data being queried and formatted with PHP and pushing the
data to Flash as XML.
In starting the project I'm a bit lost... I mean I have my
data and a good XML format but as it is I'm lost on parsing the
data in Flash and assigning its values to movie clips or other...
I've looked at the Loader Component and the XML Connector
Component and find I can get that to work at all...
My second though was to create a single movie clip on stage
and give it an instance name of "Background" and have it load the
URL of an image given in the attached XML doc... Node "a_zone" and
the value given to attribute "image"... But this brings me back to
square one of not quite understanding Flash and parsing XML... With
this second idea I would use AS to create a movie clip, set it's X
& Y cords and load an image to it based on the XML attributes
listed in the "Gatherable" node (one for each node).
Any suggestions, examples or related info is welcome...

Okay, that really wasn't what I was looking for... But I did
go back and RTM :-)

2nd Layer: movieclip with the instance name "currentPicture"
The image loads into "currentPicture" from the URL given in
the XML "a_zone" node attribute "image" just fine....
But I'm not able to grab the attributes of each "Gatherable"
node it seems... am I missing something or just not pointing to the
right node?

Apps missing from use cellular data list in iphone 6

So I got the new iPhone 6...and half of my apps are missing from the "use cellular data" list...those that are missing won't load when I try to open them...they just flash and shut down. I've tried turning off wifi...I've tried resetting the phone...nothing works. What's the point of the phone if you can't use the freaking apps when you aren't connected to wifi?? Anyone else having this problem?? Anyone know how to fix it??

How to handle sensitive data in BI?

Hi there,
we are about to load data from HR into BI. The authorities according to the queries and InfoProviders are lowered to a minimum so that only a group of people has access to those sensitive data.
But what about the generated tables in which the data of the InfoProviders are stored? Some people are granted to use SE16 (e.g. the basis team). How is it possible to protect the data from being reviewed without changing the authorities of the basis team.

If you do not want to change the authorities provided to the basis team then you will have to opt for the data in the table to be scrambled so that on displaying the information is not meaningful.

Does Tiger store sensitive data in its files like OS 9 did?

OS 7-9 and perhaps earlier stored sensitive data in files. For example once I copied a file to a floppy disk, and sometime later popped this disk in a PC. For some reason the file became corrupted and when I opened the file on the PC I was able to see the volume name of my Mac, the path, and other data that I never put there. The old OS always seemed to leave behind tracks in files. Does OSX do the same?
I have been looking for a way to find out myself, but since NDE classic crashes the classic environment in OSX, and I have been unable to find a OSX alternative to NDE (does one exist)? I have been stuck.
NDE was able to open volumes, see hidden files, change type/creator codes, and do other things. Does a alternative exist in OSX? It would be useful.

When looking for new applications, I recommend searching MacUpdate or Version Tracker. The user-submitted reviews accompanying the listings are helpful in sorting the wheat from the chaff.

Scatter plot using time series function - Flash charting

I am trying to build a time series scatter plot chart using flash chart component.
Situation :
On each scout date counts are taken within each crop. I want to order them by scout dates and display them in a time series chart. Each series represents different crop.

Problem
As you can see the observations are ordered by scout date. However when the chart appears, the dates dont appear in order. The chart displays the data from crop 1 and then followed by crop 4 data, which is not exactly a time series chart. Does flash chart support time series or they have no clue that the data type is date and it should be progressive in charting ? I tried to use to_char(date,'j') to converting them and apply the same principle however it did not help either.
Any suggestions ?

All labels are treated as strings, so APEX will not compare them as dates.
There are two workarounds to get all your data in the right order:
1) Combine the SQL statements into single-query multi-series format, something like this:

I am also facing a similar problem wherein the SWF file takes time to load the refreshed data in Infoview i.e. after exporting the xlf file to Business Objects platform. Currently I am using Xcelcius Engage/Enterprise 2008 SP3 Windows (file name: 51038212.ZIP) version 5.3.0.0 build number 12,3,0,670. Also the SWF file is approximately 2MB in size and it uses 42 live office connections.
Please suggest solution as to how to decrease the time it takes to refresh the live office connections.

I am completely new to the BusinessObjects suite and am trying to understand which features might help me solve a problem.
In K-12 education, there is often a desire to allow users to drill into and filter data in various ways, but at the same time a need to protect student confidentiality (as required by FERPA, a U.S. law). It is not sufficient to prevent access to the most detailed data; we also have to prevent the viewer from inferring sensitive data based on obvious demographic characteristics or already-known data.   For instance, given the following dataset for a school:

And a data display like this:

If I filter Gender to F and allow all ethnicity values, I will see the following:

Assuming I the viewer know there are three females in the dataset, and I happen to know that Jenny attends that school (info which is readily available), I now know that Jenny got an A.
Can I customize the universe or some other component in the system so that, in the above scenario, I see a "data not available" or something instead of the 3?

Hi,
You have to PERFORM 3 Steps.
Step-1
Create a Universe connection to the (Required)Database.
Step-2
Design a UNIVERSE representing your Business flow (Like a Department- HR, Sales, Purchase Etc)- As the UNIVERSE is a semantic layer(Do not hold data) you have to have a exact business flow in terms of how the data is moved and CREATE your required MEASURES and DIMENSIONS.
Step-3
Now you use the create the query by USING the MEASURES and DIMENSIONS you created in Step#2drop. Now you can model the report in any way Say... A Graph / Tabular way....

Case sensitive data in workflow

I am working with some case sensitive data in a work flow. To set and get the values from the container, I am using the macros swc_set_element and swc_get_element.
I realized that these macros automatically convert the case of the data I am passing to upper case. I don't want the case conversion to happen, and want to retain the original case of the data (which is a mix of upper and lower case).
Can somebody suggest an approach to handle the same?? Its kinda urgent.

Hi,
The data is generally converted to Uppercase if the Domain of the data you are using is not marked as case sensitive. You can set the "Lowercase" check box for the respective domains so that data is maintained in a case sensitive manner. May be you can copy the code of these macro's and change them to use your own case sensitive domains.

Using 2 data (SAP Netweaver BW) connections in Xcelsius dashboard

I have a situation when using 2 data (SAP Netweaver BW) connections in Xcelsius dashboard.
Break-down of issue:
I have a toggle button in our Sales dashboard which displays Top Ten Customers versus Bottom Ten Customers. I use the value of the toggle button to trigger the data connections. When a user clicks the toggle button for Top Ten Customers the value of the toggle button would be a 1 which would trigger a BW query to capture sales data for the Top Ten Customers. When a a user clicks the toggle button for Bottom Ten Customers the value of the toggle button would be a 0 which would trigger a BW query to capture sales data for the Bottom Ten Custoemrs. NOTE: all the key figures in both querys use a scaling factor of 1000. So for example, if invoiced sale has a value of 100,000 the scaling factor of a 1000 would display this key figure with a value of a 100. The issue I am having with the dashboard is when I click the toggle botton for the Top ten Customers, the value shows as 100 and if i click the toggle button for Bottom ten Customers the value would show as 100,000. I need the toggle button to show the values using the scaling factor coming from the BW queries for both Top Ten Customers and Bottom Ten Customers. It's only using the 1000 scaling factor coming from the Top Ten Customers.
Any help on this issue would be graetly appreciated...

Hi, I get both. I think the errors are connected. On the one hand it is not possible to create any SAP NetWeaver BW connection, because you cannot enter the connection details- just as in the screen above. The only option you have is to use the "browse" button, but then the blank error appears.
When trying to open a Dashboard from Portal you have to use SAP->Open and then SAP GUI should appear, but here I get the error "Could not open from SAP" instead. I have installed BEx and SAP GUI of course, reinstalled all of them two times just as recommended above, also reinstalled MS Excel, Flash, Java. Furthermore I tried to repair the installation and to change between different editions, personal, departmental etc.
In the meantime I think it should not be possible at all to connect to BW with the departmental license key. Can somebody confirm that?

Using PHP Data Services to create an object and accessing that objects data in an unbound way in AS

I've been able to use the php data services and bind the results of a function to a component. However I am having a hard time figuring out the syntax to use the data services to create an object out of the results, and then use that object as an array of filenames to provide the current index of the filename to a new sound object.
My problem is obviously in not being able to figure out the specific syntax, I have declared the service and and object of the services returned type and in the creationComplete() function I have assigned object.token = service.getData();
I've tried various ways of then pulling that data out of the object, with no success.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
This code probably looks horrible because it doesn't work yet.

In retrieving your data - what is your php returning to FB, an object, object array, an array? Either way, I have a brief example below that an object(s) is being returned. Pull the data from the lastResult in a ResultEvent. The object instantiated in the resultEvent will contain your data and you can do what you want from there.
Also, I always use Network Monitor to see what data (if any) is being returned from the server, you can also see how it is being sent back.

DVT X Axis Date Formatting using tabular data

I have a curious question about the <dvt:attributeFormat>.
I wanted to format my bar graph x-axis with locale sensitive date formatting.
I saw this attribute <dvt:attributeFormat> which I think is the best tool for the job.

The name of the categorical attribute is the name of the attribute/layer that was added to the Graph DataModel. The Graph model can be set declaratively by updating the pagedef. Here is the associated view pagedef for the above graph:

Does this mean that this tag only works when you are using page binding?
If you are using tabulardata in managing your data then does it mean that you cannot use this tag?
Then how do you format DVT graph data that uses tabularData if you do not know the attribute name?
The javadoc tag reference does not mention anything about this.

How do you format date attribute in a locale sensitive manner when your graph is using custom list in the tabulardata tag property of your graph component.
