Using serialized objects for 'static' perso

Hi,
I guess this is food for thought. I am looking at the following avenue.
use serialized objects - compliant with the back office software - as 'static' perso. by static I mean all perso data that the card simply stores and does not need to use/modify to function.
These objects could change over time (data and methods) without having to re-issue card applications; and many "genertions" of cards could exist on the field as the back office software would know how to adjut to them.
Has this been done/looked at before ?
Regards,
Philippe

Hi,
What I meant was use objects serialized by software (outside of the card) to personalize easily all data that:
1) have the same access security level
2) do not need any modification/understanding from the applet
My post is quite old now ...
I actually have done it and it is quite useful, at least to setup prototypes.

  • Direct DB access from Session Bean w/o using Serialized Objects

    I am developing a system where I am receiving some messages (data ) inside session bean and I want to log that data into data base .i.e inserting that data in to various tables. I am not showing that data to client ( that is taken care by another application).
    So I am directly calling insert methods on various tables instead of going for serialized classes for each of that tables and calling setter methods. Is this approach correct? Or this will create nightmares when millions of messages are to be logged? Do I have to make serialized objects? Please post the suggestions ..Thank you in advance.
    If session bean is making direct inserts in the DB using Helper classes as shown below is there any problem of concurrency?? Means multiple session bean instances inserting data in the same table using the helper class will create any problems?? I am using MySql db presently. Or all will work fine coz I am using the data source and pool available in welogic app server?
    Is this a good approach if my application is doing inserts 90% of times? or I have to use entity beans or serialized objects encapsulating each class?
    public class Logger implements SessionBean

    //some methods to look for required value in another tables

    Hi,
    Nothing wrong in using Helper class to insert into table. It won't create problem as long as your database server able to handle that many request from client.
    If you use weblogic server and datasource, the server will take care of all connection pool management depending upon your configuration parameters.
    Moreover, insert won't lock the table. So you need not worry about those things.

  • Problem in using View Object for validation

    Hi,
    I have defined a simple swing form to practice. It has one Entity Object and two View objects. One of these view objects is an updatable VO based on the EO and the other one has a simple "select count(*)" from a table. I defined a method validation on one of the EO attributes to see how can i use the VO for validation. On the other hand i defined the Application Module to use both of my views. As far as i undrestood, when i define a VO for AM, the AM will instantiate it the first time it starts running. Here is the code inside the method validation for FirstName attribute:
    /**Validation method for FirstName
    public boolean validateFirstName(String data) {
    ViewObject vo = getDBTransaction().getRootApplicationModule().findViewObject("CountEmployeeInstance");
    if (vo == null) {
    System.out.println("vo is null");
    else {
    vo.executeQuery();
    if (vo.hasNext()){
    System.out.println("count = " + ((CountEmployeeRowImpl) vo.next()).getCount());
    else {
    System.out.println("vo has no next");
    return true;
    The problem is that vo.executeQuery() does not return any record. In fact the vo.hasNext() returns false and i get the message "vo has no next" on the console. Please pay attention that the VO's sql statement is SELECT COUNT(*) and it always returns a record. I found that if i use vo.closeRowSet() before vo.executeQuery() everything works fine.
    Please tell me that what is my problem and why is it working like this?
    Best Regards,
    Alireza Vali

    Chris,
    1- Every thing is fine with the ADF model layer in this practice. I have tested it by using Test option on AM and it works. It works exactly the same as how it works throug swing UI that i use for it.
    2- The VO is beeing found and as you see in the code, i have tested it by "if (vo == null)" just after the statement which finds it and vo is not null which means it has been instantiated by AM as it was supposed to.
    3- The VO's SQL statement is "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM EMPLOYEE" with no where clause. I have 14 records in this table.
    Every thing is OK with swing form. It runs and shows the records and all the binded operations like "next record", "previous record" and so on work perfectly on the records.
    4- The code i used is a combination of two examples. Example 9-7 and 9-8 in pages 9-12 and 9-13 of mentioned document.
    Now my findings:
    I changed the code to the following:
        /**Validation method for FirstName
        public boolean validateFirstName(String  data) {
            ViewObject vo = getDBTransaction().getRootApplicationModule().findViewObject("MaxEmployeeIdInstance");
            if (vo == null) {
                System.out.println("vo is null");
            else {
                //vo.closeRowSet();
                vo.executeQuery();
                System.out.println("Row Count = " + vo.getRowCount());
                System.out.println("Default Slot = " + vo.getCurrentRowSlot());
                vo.next();
                System.out.println("Slot after next() = " + vo.getCurrentRowSlot());
                vo.reset();
                System.out.println("Slot after reset() = " + vo.getCurrentRowSlot());
                vo.first();
                System.out.println("Slot after first() = " + vo.getCurrentRowSlot());
                vo.last();
                System.out.println("Slot after last() = " + vo.getCurrentRowSlot());
                System.out.println("----------------------");
                vo.executeQuery();
                System.out.println("Deafault index = " + vo.getCurrentRowIndex());
                vo.next();
                System.out.println("Index after next() = " + vo.getCurrentRowIndex());
                vo.reset();
                System.out.println("Index after reset() = " + vo.getCurrentRowIndex());
                vo.first();
                System.out.println("Index after first() = " + vo.getCurrentRowIndex());
                vo.last();
                System.out.println("Index after last() = " + vo.getCurrentRowIndex());
                System.out.println("Slot Before First = " + vo.SLOT_BEFORE_FIRST);
                System.out.println("Slot Beyound Last = " + vo.SLOT_BEYOND_LAST);
            return true;
        }Here are the results :
    Row Count = 1
    Default Slot = 0
    Slot after next() = 3
    Slot after reset() = 0
    Slot after first() = 0
    Slot after last() = 0
    Deafault index = 0
    Index after next() = -1
    Index after reset() = 0
    Index after first() = 0
    Index after last() = 0
    Slot Before First = 2
    Slot Beyound Last = 3
    As you see, after the execution of the statement "vo.executeQuery()" the The RowIterrator pointer is not pointing to the slot before the first record but it is pointing to the first record itself. And that is why the statement "if (vo.hasNext()" returns false because we just have one record and RowIterrator Index is standing on that record and there is no next record present. The very important thing is that even reset() method does not set the index to the slot before the first record and it sends it to the first record.
    After that, i took the statemet "vo.closeRowSet()" out of the comment and here are the results:
    Row Count = 1
    Default Slot = 2
    Slot after next() = 0
    Slot after reset() = 2
    Slot after first() = 0
    Slot after last() = 0
    Deafault index = -1
    Index after next() = 0
    Index after reset() = -1
    Index after first() = 0
    Index after last() = 0
    Slot Before First = 2
    Slot Beyond Last = 3
    These are the exact things that we expected from the first. After query execution, the pointer is set to the slot before first record and the reset() method does its defined job which is sending the pointer to the slot before the the first record.
    My Assumptions:
    The Rowset which is created by AM is somehow different from the RowSet which you create in your program. I am absolutely sure that this functionality is not a bug but a design decission. I look at my simple program and see that when it runs, the data is queried and shown on the screen which is all done by AM by instantiating my VO and executing the query on it. AM reasonably must put the RowSet pointer on the first record and not the slot before first record. And i am sure that if i use reset() method on the shown RowSet, the pointer goes to the first record and the data on the screen does not get cleared. Whe we use vo.closeRowSet() and execute the query again, the AM made RowSet is closed and a new one is created and the new RowSet is your's not AM's so it functions as you expect.

  • Is it mandatory to use Business object for data transfer and work flow?

    <font size="3">
    <pre>
    In our enterprise projects we deal with some screens where we add or update some data and again
    we retrieve that data and display to user in various ways like displaying on screen as
    a report or viewing in excel etc.. Most of the times, though we identify the business objects
    based on the nouns in requirements document, really while implementing there will not be any
    business logic in the objects. Almost all the objects which we identfy as business objects
    may have methods like add, delete, update and retrieve methods. Still in these cases, is it required to
    have business objects or can we use transfer object to send the data for saving and retriving or any other
    pattern/guideline is there for dealing such cases?
    I really appreciate your comments on this topic.

    In my opinion, DAO pattern would be suitable for you. Generally the DAO (Data Access Object) will have the CRUD (create, read, update, delete) methods to retrieve data from data-source (e.g. database). Based on the data it will create the DTOs (Data Transfer Objects) and pass them to the caller. It will also receive the DTOs from the caller and save it the data-source. Thus in your case you can
    - remove the CRUD methods from the Business Objects (BO) and make them pure DTOs and use them with DAOs (If you are using JDBC codes inside your application and you don't have much of validation or processing logic in your BOs).
    http://www.corej2eepatterns.com/Patterns2ndEd/DataAccessObject.htm
    OR
    - use BOs in combination in DAOs (if using the database connection from a pool and BOs are having complicated processing logic).

  • Using Serial Port for Non-Serial Data Acquisiton

    I searched the forums and couldn't find anything related to this topic.
    I saw that it was possible to use the parallel port for simple digital I/O and I was hoping the serial port can be configured the same. It seems all the VISA VI's only want to use the serial port to recieve ASCII chars at a given baud rate, but is it possible to simply poll the status of the serial line at my own speed to see if it is high or low, kind of like a single pin DAQ?
    It seems it would be possible as long as the serial data is read and controlled by labview and not by Windows. Let me know if you have any ideas how to approach this problem, or any feedback as to why it is not possible.
    Thanks everyone!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Select Property>Serial Settings>Modem Line Settings. For example, the CTS State is an input to the pc.
    Using these lines is a very poor replacement for a scope or DAQ board. The only things you can get back is Asserted, Unasserted, or Unknown. The range of acceptable signals is quite large. Anything between +3 and -3 is an unknown state. Your other signals are +/3 to 15 volts. what kind of signals do you actually want to capture?
    edit: There is no such thing as VISA Status so I have no idea what you are actually using.

  • How to use a object for both key figure and as a charcteristc

    Dear all,
    we have a requirement where in we have to use Version Field as a key figure and as well as a charecteristc.
    Regards

    Dear Mayank Gupta
    Thxs for ur reply
    We are creating a EBIDTA Report which is already developed in R/3 and these result will be stored in Z table.
    we have created a DSO which will store this Z table data.
    Now the req is we have a created a field called ZVersion which is there in the Key fields of DSO. ok
    But in report we want to use the condition TOP1 on the version. as the version is a not a key figure we cant create the Conditon on the characteristc.
    If we use version as a key figure then the records are summurised in DSO as u have to insert it in Data Field.
    we want to use version as a primary key.
    so how to go abt it?

  • Help me understand JDBC connections using DataSource objects

    I'm writing a simple Java server application that accepts connections from multiple clients via RMI, connects to a SQL Server 2000 database via Microsoft's SQL 2000 JDBC driver, gets some data, and returns it to the client. The server application will handle every SQL database connection. However, it must be able to establish multiple simultaneous connections, since multiple clients may connect at the same time and request data.
    Sounds like a simple multi-threaded server that utilizes a connection pool for database connectivity, right? Well, if I want to do that, I have to register a PooledDataSource object with JNDI. My server threads that are handling requests will simply grab connections out of the pool to retrieve data (presumably).
    This seems like a fairly simple server application; however, all the information and tutorials I've read on using DataSource objects for database connections rather than DriverManager.getConnection() mention XML config files, J2EE application servers, Tomcat, WebSphere, etc. I really don't want to have to deal with all that just to get connection pooling and not have to use the DriverManager.getConnection() method.
    Is there a simple way to use DataSource objects without installing a lot of extra junk on my server?

    Thanks, diazlara. Your response was exactly what I needed to know. All the information I've read prior to this suggested that I had to have a J2EE server running, and that I had to register the DataSource object with JNDI. If you ladies and gents could take a quick look at this and let me know if I'm doing it correctly, I'd appreciate it.
    As proflux suggested, I wrote a connection manager:
    import java.sql.*;
    import javax.sql.*;
    import com.microsoft.jdbcx.sqlserver.*;
    public class SQLConnectionManager {
       private static ConnectionPoolDataSource connectionPool;
       // Initialize the connection manager
       public SQLConnectionManager() {
          init();
       // Retrieve a connection from the connection pool and return it
       public static Connection getConnection() {
          Connection connection = null;
          try {
             connection = connectionPool.getPooledConnection("myUsername", "myPassword").getConnection();
          catch (SQLException ex) {
             System.err.println("A problem occurred while getting a connection from the pool.");
             ex.printStackTrace();
          return connection;
       // Initialize the datasource and connection pool
       private static void init() {
          SQLServerDataSource mds = new SQLServerDataSource();
          mds.setDescription("MS SQLServerDataSource");
          mds.setServerName("127.0.0.1");
          mds.setPortNumber(1433);
          mds.setDatabaseName("SomeTable");
          mds.setSelectMethod("cursor");
          connectionPool = (ConnectionPoolDataSource) mds;
    }As you can see, I'm hard-coding the username and password for testing purposes. I'll incorporate a login/authentication system for any production code that I use this in.
    Once the SQLConnectionManager is created, connections can be retrieved as follows:
          Connection connection = null;
          try {
             connection = SQLConnectionManager.getConnection();
             System.out.println("** Got a SQL database connection from the pool");
             DatabaseMetaData metaData = connection.getMetaData();
             ResultSet rs = metaData.getCatalogs();
             while (rs.next()) {
                System.out.println("\tcatalog: " + rs.getString(1));
             rs.close();
             connection.close();
          catch (SQLException ex) {
             System.out.println("An exception occurred while connecting to the SQL Database:");
             ex.printStackTrace();
          }So, how does that look? I tested it out, and it seems to work just fine. Using this code, I am getting a connection from a pool, correct? I want to make sure of that. Also, are there any inherent weaknesses or flaws with this method that I need to be aware of?
    Thanks so much for all the helpful responses.

    This serial read data continuous.but when i click on the graph or made

    What can i do

    If I understand correctly what you're saying, there is a gap in you data when you click on the graph, or zoom in on it. If you have the acquisition and the graph in the same loop, you could be essentially pausing or slowing down the loop while you are interacting with the graph. I've never noticed this effect before myself, but it is possible.One solution might be to put the acquisition process in a seperate loop and pass data to the loop containing the graph in something like a queue.Mike...

    1. What is the purpose for SealedObject regarding the possibility of encrypting serialized objects with streams?
    2. Are there any differences in use of those two ways of securing objects?*
