Using several Sun Java Versions parallel

I want to use several Sun Java Version parallel - is this possible and if yes how can I set this. I want to use for one program / or one website (like www.0815.com) the version 1.4.2_06 and for an other program / or website (like www.sample.com) the version 1.3.2_06 ?
The problem is that we are using a terminal server application (3rd party) what is running better with the 1.3.2_06 and we are using an web based software which must use the 1.4.2_06 - I only know how I set one of this as an standard but not using one for this and another for this.
thanks for your help

  • Using CLDC Sun Java(TM) Micro Edition SDK 3.0 EA with netbeans

    Hi ,
has anyone stumbled upon this - I just installed netbeans and Java(TM) Micro Edition SDK 3.0 and am trying to work with the examples of the sdk inside the netbeans , but when I open them I get the message : "Problem - the project uses platform CLDC Sun Java(TM) Micro Edition SDK 3.0 EA", but it was not found. Create platform named like this - I tried to do it , but it doesn't help.
Is there any way of overcoming this?

Ok , I found the solution.
I installed the Sun Java Wireless Toolkit for CLDC ver 2.5.2.2_01 directly (not as part of the SDK 3.0) , then added new platform and a new project configuration
    according to the new platform.
In case someone else stumbles on that....

  • Sun Java Version Mgmt, Which Version, Deployment Methods

    All,
We are preparing to deploy the Enterprise Portal NW04s (7.0).  We've realized that we have many different versions of Sun/Microsoft Java deployed around the organization.  I'm looking for advice around a few questions.
    1.  Which version of Sun Java should we standardize on?  We're assuming the latest which is 1.6.0_03.
    2.  How have other organizations deployed this?  Batch scripts, logon scripts??  We do NOT have SMS or other deployment tools.
    3.  Is there a way to auto detect when launching the portal if someone has the right java JRE and if not to prompt them for an upgrade?
Thanks very much, any assistance is appreciated.
    Ethan Hill

JVM of end users should not create trouble. Any JVM should do good in most cases. For portal users, browser version matters the most.
The best place to find the information you need is the platform availability matrix.

    Hi OBX
Yes that is the correct version, at least that's the one that comes out of the box. You can upgrade to later versions but you have to do this both on the server and on the client. One thing that you must not do is allow the client machines to upgrade when the server is still on 1.4.2_06

  • Wildcard Certificate use in Sun Java System Messaging Server (IMAPs/POPs)

I'm trying to use a wildcard certificate acquired from GlobalSign and am having problems getting
it (properly) into the cert database.
I tried using certutil, and that didn't seem to work at all, it would list without user cert status:
    rmorneau+root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config# /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/certutil -L -d .
    GlobalSign-Ext-CA CT,c,
    *.xxxxxxxxxxx.edu ,,
I had some success using msgcert and pk12util, but after importing it in, then seeing that it did
have user cert status, after a quick restart of Messaging (IMAP/POP), SSL quit for IMAP and kicked all
my IMAPs users out temporarily (until I put the original cert8.db and key3.db back).
    -------- ImapProxy_20101115.log----
20101115 135531 ImapProxyAService.cfg (id 2590) SSL negotiation failed for IP XXX.XXX.X.XXX: Cannot connect: SSL is disabled. (-12268)

I truly appreciate any help on this matter.

    2. Does the certificate nickname in NSS match the configured certificate nickname in the product?I'm not sure, but I'll try that the next time I try this... will probably be late at night were I won't be interrupting IMAPs and POPs
Makes sense. Prior to release 7 update 4, the servers have to be shut down before modifying certificate databases. As of 7 update 4 you can do a one-time migration to the cert9.db/key4.db format that >should allow certificates to be updated without taking the servers offline.
This was in the log just before the other log entry that I showed before.
    20101115 135440 ImapProxyAService.cfg ASockSSL_Init: couldn't find cert imap.xxxxxxxxx.edu (-8174)
This is the key line from the log. The server is looking for a certificate with the NSS certificate nickname of 'imap.xxxxxxxxx.edu' and is not finding that certificate so issue 2 is likely the problem.Yes, this was it. Oversite on my part, forgot they had to match and could not be a form of just domainname.edu or *domainname.edu.
You either need to modify the default:SSLCertNicknames setting to match the nickname of the new certificate, or install the new certificate using the existing certificate nickname of 'imap.xxxxxxxxx.edu'I modified the default:SSLCertNicknames setting.
Thank you CNewman very much for all your help.
And, for those trolling for an answer with more detail via an Internet search (that is, if Oracle doesn't screw up these forums for anon searches)::::
With the private key in hand (not password protected), I used 'openssl' to get it into a pkcs12 type file:
(It is best to do this as root and not as sudo root as you might run into problems if your host
does not have root power to write to your home dir on the/a NFS share.... you will get "unable to write 'random state'".)
    root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/GlobalSign-certs-new# /usr/sfw/bin/openssl pkcs12 -export \
    -in ket-wildcard-cert.pem -inkey private.key -out cert.pkcs12 -name xxxxxxxxx.edu
    Enter Export Password:
    Verifying - Enter Export Password:
Where "private.key" is the key file, and "ket-wildcard-cert.pem" is the (pem format) cert from our cert provider,
and cert.pkcs12 is our cert file that will be imported into the database, and xxxxxxxxx.edu is whatever you (nick)name your cert
    in the database
(I think you could use a password protected private key if you have that password.. I don't.)
Next, I used 'msgcert' to import the pkcs12 cert file into the database (I'm sure there is a way
to use certutil or even pk12util to do the same, but I'm on Sun Messenger 6.3 at this time, so that's what I used.
If someone would like to elaborate for those....?):
(It is best, when using 'msgcert', to do it where your mailsrv user has some privs.. I took my pkcs12 cert and moved into /tmp.)
    root@mmp1:/tmp# /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/msgcert import-cert cert.pkcs12
Enter the PKCS#12 file password: (blank)
Enter the certificate database password: (token password in sslpassword.conf)
Make sure your (wildcard) cert nickname matches what you have in
    ImapProxyAService.cfg and PopProxyAService.cfg at the "default:SSLCertNicknames" field.
    Edit if need be.
    root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config# /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/certutil -L -d .
    GlobalSign-Ext-CA CT,c,
    xxxxxxxxx.edu u,u,u
    root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config# grep default:SSLCertNicknames *AService.cfg
    ImapProxyAService.cfg:default:SSLCertNicknames xxxxxxxxx.edu
    PopProxyAService.cfg:default:SSLCertNicknames xxxxxxxxx.edu
Then, of course, restart the msg service(s).
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/stop-msg
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/start-msg

  • Sun Java Plug-in - Java Version

Hi. We are using the Sun Java Plug-in configuration and I've noticed that when first-time user click on my URL that Forms is requiring that they download Java v. 1.4. How is this controlled? What if I want user to be using a different version like v. 1.6? Can I control this?
Also, how is Forms finding that v. 1.4 is installed on my user's computers after they complete the installation of v. 1.4? From DOS, if I issue the 'java -version' command it still returns their previous version?
    Thanks in advance.

Sun's plug-in is the future. Oracle made JInitiator because at the time we needed to release Forms for the web, Sun's plugin was not up to par. It now is very much so. There are two major versions after 1.4 so you should look into using 1.6 of the plug-in.
JInitiator is not going to be supported with upcoming Forms v11. You will need to go to Sun's plug-in if you upgrade. Version 10.1.2 will be supported for 18 months after 11 comes out so you need to upgrade the Java plug-in within roughly 2 years anyway. The upgrade from Client/Server can be somewhat time consuming if you have client/server only functionality (see the Forms Upgrade Center for resources: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/upgrade/index.html). The upgrade from 10.1.2 to 11 should just entail a recompile of the FMB filies.

  • JSP newbie: local Sun Java System Application Server installation

I am new to JSP and I am preparing to get the software I need. JDK 6 and Netbeans 6 are installed. Now I need an application server. Since the Sun tutorials use the "Sun Java System Application Server" I have choosen this one (version 9.1). As far as I know I could also use, e.g., Tomcat or Glassfish (correct?).
I just would like to install the application server for learning JSP.
Could I safely install the Sun Java System Application Server on my PC so that the application server only listens to local calls? Does it use a lot of system ressources while idle?
    Thanks!

I`ve posted a shorter version of the question in the hopes of getting a timely answer. Thanks

  • SUN Java System Web Server 7.0U1 How to install certificate chain

I am trying to install a certificate chain using the SUN Java Web Server 7.0U1 HTTPS User interface. What I have tried so far:
    1. Created a single file using vi editor containing the four certificates in the chain by cutting an pasting each certificate (Begin Certificate ... End Certificate) where the top certificate is the server cert (associated with the private key), then the CA that signed the server cert, then the next CA, then the root CA. Call this file cert_chain.pem
    2. Go to Certificates Tab/Server Certificates
    3. Choose Install
    4. Cut and paste contents of cert_chain.pem in the certificate data box.
    5. Assign to httplistener
    6. Nickname for this chain is 'server_cert'
    7. Select httplistener and assign server_cert (for some reason, this is not automatically done after doing step 5).
    8. No errors are received.
When I display server_cert (by clicking on it), only the first certificate of the chain is displayed and only that cert is provided to the client during the SSL handshake.
I tried to do the same, except using the Certificate Authority Tab, since this gave the option of designating the certificate as a CA or chain during installation. When I select ed "chain," I get the same results when I review the certificate (only the first cert in the file is displayed). This tells me that entering the chain in PEM format is not acceptable. I tried this method since it worked fine with the F5 BIG-IP SSL appliance.
My question is what format/tool do I need to use to create a certificate chain that the Web Server will accept?

    --- BEGIN CERTIFICATE ---
    ... some data....
    --- END CERTIFICATE ---
    --- BEGIN CERTIFICATE ---

--- END CERTIFICATE ---is NOT the way to create a certificate chain.
I have installed a certificated chain (it had 1 BEGIN CERTIFICATE and one END CERTIFICATE only and still had 2 certificates) and I used the same steps as you mentioned and it installed both the certificates.

  • Sun Java Comm Suite - Need Clarification of Licensing

I must be a blithering idiot because for the life of me I cannot find the issue documented CLEARLY anywhere....."when you are ready to deploy" is a very vague term. I wish the marketing masters would use something like "Ok, it was free, now you have to pay" or "Feel free to use it, but if you want patches, etc. you have to fork over some money"

    Hi,
Now that Sun has stripped out the email services from
JES 5 and thrown them into another product, must I
now pay to USE Sun Java Communication Suite or is the
"licensing" strictly for support?Well I know you can't get support unless you pay for it :)
I must be a blithering idiot because for the life of
me I cannot find the issue documented CLEARLY
anywhere....."when you are ready to deploy" is a very
vague term. There is an underlying assumption here that running with unsupported software in a deployed environment is a bad idea (TM). This is basically saying the software is available for evaluation purposes.. which doesn't necessarily preclude from being available for production purposes... but it doesn't expressly include it either :)
I wish the marketing masters would use
something like "Ok, it was free, now you have to pay"
or "Feel free to use it, but if you want patches,
etc. you have to fork over some money"
I guess the simple question is, will I violate the
license agreement if I download and use the Sun Java
Communications Suite without paying for a license? When you install the software, the software licence agreement outlines the terms of 'permitted use' (section 3).
From my reading of the licence agreement, if you do not have an entitlement to the license (which I would guess you don't) then the software is for evaluation use.. which is defined as:
3(a) Evaluation Use. You may evaluate Software internally for a period of 90 days from your first use.
For any more clarification you may want to ask a Sun sales rep.
    Regards,
    Shane.

    Nope
This is part of the Oracle Lifetime Support policy:

'OLD' products can/may still be supported under *SPECIAL* support contracts. So if you're entitled to its support, you can access it. Otherwise, I'm afraid the answer is no.

  • Compatibilty Between SUN Java and IBM Java

    Hello all,
This is my 1st post in this Forum.
I build a Desktop application compiling my project with IBM J9 VM (build 2.3, J2RE 1.5.0 IBM J9 2.3 Linux Java.
The application runs on a windows pc that has the SUN Java version 1.5 installed, but it does not run on a pc that has the SUN Java version 1.6 installed.
I assume that there is a compatibility issue. Could it be the case that :
IBM Java Version 1.5 is only compatible with SUN Java 1.5 ?
    Thanks,
    Helen

You'll need to check the IBM site for a bug reports, I doubt Sun is going to be concered with a bug in IBM's implementation.

  • Using DRS to specify Java version when executing JNLP file.

We have an application that executes from a JNLP file that we are told is version sensitive.  We have a rule set created for a number of apps that work just fine to meet this goal.  However, when creating a rule to execute this JNLP application we are having issues getting it to work.  To simplify the process we created a certificate hash rule for this application and when reviewing console\trace we can see it correctly identifying and executing under the Java 6U29 environment.  The issue is that even though 6u29 is being invoked it does not work (merely displays a "application error" message).  However, if I instead launch the JNLP file using the Javaws.exe in the 1.6.0_29 folder the app loads fine.  When comparing behavior with the rule set environment and a 6u29 only environment I saw some peculiar entries.

  • Sun Java Plug-in Required Installing the Sun Java Plug-in, version 1.6.0_19

    Hi,
am new to this thread, excuse if any issues in posting,
my pblm is am running my application,
    Sun Java Plug-in Required
The Sun Java Plug-in must be installed on your local machine in order to run this workbench. The Sun Java Plug-in can be downloaded from the following directory:
    /dsworkbench/clientinstall
Please contact your system administrator to verify the location of the client installations.
Installing the Sun Java Plug-in, version 1.6.0_19
The Sun Java Plug-in is required to run the WebLogic version of this workbench. To install:
Download the file jre-6u19-windows-i586.exe and execute it.
On the license terms screen, select Custom setup and click Accept.
If you want to change the default installation directory, click Change and specify a different directory. Once the installation directory is set, click Next.
Click Next to accept the default browser registrations.
    Disabling Auto-Update Capability
By default, the Java Control Panel is configured to automatically download and update to newer releases of the Java Plug-in as they become unavailable.
It is advisable to turn off this feature so that compatibility between the Java Plug-in and the workbench is maintained. To turn off automatic updates:
Open the Windows Control Panel, and click Java. The Java Control Panel displays.
    Click the Update tab.
Under the Update Notification area, deselect Check for Updates Automatically.
"Java Update - Warning" dialog box displays. Click Never Check.
Click OK to save and then close the Java Control Panel.I have done the same and I restarted browser and my machine, and when I relogined to the application still the same message is appearing,
I don't know if I need to set the environment path, but I have done it. any pointers will be helpful

This tends to be a 32 bits / 64 bits problem. The runtime must match the architecture of the browser you're using; so if it is a 64 bits browser, you MUST have a 64 bits runtime. If it is a 32 bits browser you MUST have a 32 bits runtime. You can install both and cover all cases.

Our crossdomain.xml fille is configured correctly, and also previous versions of JRE are not having the problem (the Java logs look clean).
    Does anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks.

    Hi All
Got a similar issue with the tracking / bookmarking of sessions - when on sun Java update 7 all is well however when update 10 or 11 is installed then SCROM session start on page 1 not the page you were on, also as expected they do not get marked as complete.
    Two things happen
    1) A small window is left for - [http://riti04.cornwall.nhs.uk:7780/ilearn/en/learner/jsp/relogin.jsp] - URL
    2) We get an Error on page - [http://riti04.cornwall.nhs.uk:7780/ilearn/en/learner/jsp/lms.jsp] - URL
Looked for the Plugin section as per a pervious within the Java Control panel - but I'm not seeing it.
We use iLearn 5.0 and I am begining to think we need a patch but unsure which.
    Thanks
    Stephen
