Using stored parameter from data control class with stacked bar-graph

Hi folks,
I'm relatively new to ADF & EJB so I want to apologise in advance if this question seems rudimentary to many of you.
Edit:  I should have mentioned that I'm using JDeveloper 11.1.1.5
I'm having a hard time determining how to retrieve the value from a variable to be assigned to a property of the bar graph I'm trying to display on my JSF page.
I have tried to briefly summarise the logic below for reference.
I have a data control class (ActivityChart) that includes a method "getActivityDetail" returns a List of custom Objects (ActivityDTO) that are the underlying data for my bar graph.
public class ActivityChart {
    private Double axisScale;
    public ActivityChart() {
        super();
        axisScale = 0.0;
    public List<ActivityDTO> getActivityDetail(List<String> businessUnits) {
        List<ActivityDTO> returnNewList = new ArrayList<ActivityDTO>();
        List<TransactionDTO> dataList = new ArrayList<TransactionDTO>();
        TransactionSessionBean transBean = lookupTransactionSessionBean();
        if (businessUnits != null && !businessUnits.isEmpty()){
            dataList = transBean.getActivityData(SystemUtil.getCurrentUser(), businessUnits);
            returnNewList = processTransactions(dataList);
            axisScale = calcAxisScale(returnNewList);
        return returnNewList;
...The TransactionDTO object is basically a mirror of the entity object to store the fields from the queried db transactions.
The ActivityDTO object contains a String value (x-axis label) and 3 Double values for the values required for the bar graph.
What I'm trying to do is dynamically set the scale for the 2 y-axes (I'm using a dual-axis stacked bar graph) because the auto calculated values are not aligned.
Right now I've got the two relevant elements of the bar graph hard-coded with a specific axis value:
<dvt:y1Axis axisMaxAutoScaled="false" axisMaxValue="100.0"/>
<dvt:y2Axis axisMaxAutoScaled="false" axisMaxValue="100.0"/>.
The value I want to use for the Y-axis is calculated and stored in the "axisScale" variable in the above class.
Really at a loss of how to move forward from here.
Would very much appreciate any guidance/direction offered.
Thanks,
Karim

Looks like I may have found the answer!
I had to set up the variable in the bindings for the page and then reference the variable from the binding and add the property inputValue.
ie. value="#{bindings.axisScale.inputValue}"

    Hello,
    I have the following problem:
    I drag an attribute from Data Controls and put it in the jspx. af:inputText component is created, with property maximumLength set to maximumLength="#{bindings.AttrName.hints.precision}" e.g.:
        <af:inputText value="#{bindings.AttrName.inputValue}"
                      label="#{bindings.AttrName.hints.label}"
                      required="#{bindings.AttrName.hints.mandatory}"

      </af:inputListOfValues>We have to add the property for every single lov, because the client wants the input to be limited.
    Is there a way to modify this default behaviour?

    Shay,
    Thank you for the advice. I was using jsp pages. But I also tried jspx and had the same problem. I wonder if it is a problem with the tag library or with the JDeveloper software. When I create a new jsp page, at the step where the available tag libraries can be shuttled from left to the right, sometimes on the right side there is only JSF HTML but hot JSF Core, but JSF core is not on the left side either. Yet if you click finish and check the source tab you would see both directives for the two libraries are in the page.
    When building the pages, all the tags are created by JDeveloper. I do not have the freedom to edit the code because I do not know the tags. If I knew how to directly edit the tags, I can forget about the Design tab. But at least for now I am dependent on the Design tab.
    There are many questions on my mind such as the difference between <form> and <h:form>? Is it OK to mix all these tags from the different tag libraries in one page? What is the difference between the JSF HTML CommandButton and the ADF FACES Core CommandButton, and which one should I used in what context? And many many other questions. Are there any Oracle documents that cover these topics and systematically explain and teach the use of these tags? I just found documents for 11g, one of which, by its title at least, looks like a book for such purpose. But it is for 11g.
    Many thanks for your guidance!

  • How do  I use a variable from an Interface class?

    Right now I have three classes. First class is called Game and it extends my second class call Parent and also implements my third class call Source. Source is an interface class. I have a variable that I want to use in my Source class named Checker. Now, How do I go among using that variable from my Game class? What should the code look like?
    ex.
    public class Game extends Parent implements Source
    need help badly....

    ok, what I forgot to tell you guys is that my variable
    in my interface class is a boolean type(true or
    false). It is set to true now. But I want it to change
    to false when a user triggers a button in the Game
    class. How do I do this? You don't because you can't. If you have a varaible declared in an interface it must be static and final. It cannot, therefore, be changed. Better head back to the drawing board.

    in the HANA SQL editor , we run the stored procedure "name_of_sp" as

  • I need a stacked bar graph stacked but overlaying data help please

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to change an existing combination graph.
    Currently we use a combination graph that has a bar that shows the usage accross a number of weeks, with a line that shows total available over the top. So the customer can see what they have used in a week against themaximun it could be used in that week.
    Unfortunatley our customer would like this changes to a single bar graph that shows the usage and then if the total available is more than the usage (it is sometimes the same but never less) then this should be added to the bar graph to increase the bar in a different colour.
    I have looked at Reports 10g and the stacked bar graph seems perfect but this adds the two values together and not just the increase. I know i could minus one from the other but with the way my data is structured in the data model this could be a pain as they are linked via a data link in the data model and also seems a bit of a work around. Is there no way to have a overlay on the stacked graph or is there another way to achieve this that i cant see.
    Thanks

    I was able to figure it out.
    Instead of using creating the dataset using:
    CategoryDataset datasetWorkload = DatasetUtilities.createCategoryDataset()
    if a 'DefaultCategoryDataset' is used, the values to be displayed can be customised:
    DefaultCategoryDataset result = new DefaultCategoryDataset();
    result.addValue(200.0, "Allocated", "Jan 04");
    result.addValue(500.0, "Allocated", "Feb 04");
    result.addValue(10.3, "Over-Allocated", "Jan 04");
    result.addValue(16.2, "Over-Allocated", "Feb 04");

  • Help with stacked bar charts

    Help..................
    I am definitely missing something.
    I want to do something like the attached, stacked bar chart example.  This is pretty much
    one of the examples.
    What I need is for a horizontal chart instead of a vertical.  When I right click the legend and
    chose bar charts, it only shows vertical.  After messing with this for a couple of hours,
    I give.
    Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Another stacked bar graph plea for help!
    My scenario: I am recording 3ph current values (red, yellow, blue) on multiple circuits for some electrical tests we do.
    I want to present this data on a screen that is most visible from a distance, so the approach I have taken when I last wrote the software in Delphi was to have each 3 ph circuit represented by a 3 channel bar chart where the three channels are stacked front to back in order of magnitude. This allowed me to add multiple 3 channel circuits next to these to fill the screen from left to right.
    See attached Excel file to make it clear. I hope!
    The main issue I see is that the colour of plot needs to move front to back with the magnitude. ie Red is not always the front plot, it is the 'smallest' of the three plots that stays at the front.
    Some tests we do, may have 12 x 3ph circuits of this type which fills the screen up and can make it very busy. Rather than having 36 plots left to right, by stacking them in groups of three, I reduce the left to right number to 12 plots. The screen can then be viewed from a distance much easier.
    Any suggestions? I am expecting I will need to write my own routine for this, which if I do, i am quite happy to share when complete.
    See (and run) the attached LabVIEW code of my progress so far.
    thanks  Adam

    Hi everyone
    I am facing a problem with plotting a stacked bar graph with a line or dot for count.
    I have 2 y axes and one x-axes.
    Can anyone help out with suggestions as to how to do this in 9i Reports.

    The graph wizard in Reports 9i allows you to create a dual Y combination graph - is this not sufficient for your needs, or am I missing something?

  • Unusual use of interface defining static factory class with getInstance

    This question is prompted by a recent New to Java forum question ask about the differences between Interfaces and Abstract classes. Of course one of the standard things mentioned is that interfaces cannot actually implement a method.
    One of my past clients, one of the 500 group, uses interfaces as class factories. The interface defines a pubic static class with a public static method, getInstance, that is called to generate instances of a class that implements the interface.
    This architecture was very object-oriented, made good use of polymorphism and worked very well. But I haven't seen this architecture used anywhere else and it seemed a little convoluted.
    Here is a 'pseudo' version of the basic interface template and use
    -- interface that defines public static factory class and getInstance method
    public interface abc {
        public static class FactoryClass
            public static abc getInstance ()
                return (abc) FactoryGenerator(new abcImpl(), abc.class);
    -- call of interface factory to create an instance
    abc myABC = abc.Factory.getInstance();1. Each main functional area ('abc' in the above) has its own interface factory
    2. Each main functional area has its own implementation class for that interface
    3. There is one generator (FactoryGenerator) that uses the interface class ('abc.class') to determine which implementation class to instantiate and return. The generator class can be configured at startup to control the actual class to return for any given interface.
    I should mention that the people that designed this entire architecture were not novices. They wrote some very sophisticated multi-threaded code that rarely had problems, was high performance and was easy to extend to add new functionality (interfaces and implementing classes) - pretty much plug-n-play with few, if any, side-effects that affected existing modules.
    Is this a best-practices method of designing factory classes and methods? Please provide any comments about the use of an architecture like this.

    Thanks for the feedback.
    >
    I don't see how 'the generator class can be configured at startup to control the actual class to return for any given interface' can possibly be true given this pseudo-code.
    >
    I can see why that isn't clear just from what is posted.
    The way it was explained to me at the time is that the interface uses standard naming conventions and acts like a template to make it easy to clone for new modules: just change 'abc' to 'def' in three places and write a new 'defImpl' class that extends the interface and the new interface and class can just 'plug in' to the framework.
    The new 'defImpl' class established the baseline functionality that must be supported. This line
    return (abc) FactoryGenerator(new abcImpl(), abc.class);uses the initial version of the new class that was defined, 'abcImpl()', when calling the FactoryGenerator and it acted as a 'minimum version supported'. The generator class could use configuration information, if provided, to provide a newer class version that would extend this default class. Their reasoning was that this allowed the framework to use multiple versions of the class as needed when bugs got fixed or new functionality was introduced.
    So the initial objects would be an interface 'abc' and a class 'abcImpl'. Then the next version (bug fixes or enhancements) would be introduced by creating a new class, perhaps 'abcImpl_version2'. A configuration parameter could be passed giving 'abcImpl' as the base class to expect in the FactoryGenerator call and the generator would actually create an instance of 'abcImpl_version2' or any other class that extended 'abcImpl'.
    It certainly go the job done. You could use multiple versions of the class for different environments as you worked new functionality from DEV, TEST, QA and PRODUCTION environments without changing the basic framework.
    I've never seen any Java 'pattern' that looks like that or any pattern where an interface contained a class. It seemed really convoluted to me and seems like the 'versioning' aspect of it could have been accomplished in a more straightforward manner.
    Thanks for the feedback. If you wouldn't mind expanding a bit on one comment you made then I will mark this ANSWERED and put it to rest.
    >
    I don't mind interfaces containing classes per se when necessary

  • How Can I use a Variable  in Data Controls query. Frank Kindly check...

    Hii,
    I am using JDeveloper 11g ADF BC.
    My Requirement is that I hv a login screen which is taken from [http://blogs.oracle.com/shay/simpleJSFDBlogin.zip].
    I hv attached BC in this application. I want to use the login usercode in the next pages after login screen. Next screen contains 3 list items which will be populating based on the user. So I created &lt;af:selectOneChoice&gt; using the BC( Just drag & dropped the column into the page from the data controls). But in the data control i want to use this usercode for passing the condition. Now Data is coming without any condition.
    So How can I use the usercode in the Data controls query.
    When I tried to display the usercode in the next page it is showing by binding the value. its code is follows

    Hi,
    I didn't look at the example, but if you want to secure your application then you should use container managed security. Read this .
    Anyway, you could add this before return "good"; in your login_action()
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getSessionMap().put("username", user);Then, you can access this from anywhere in the application by using #{sessionScope.username}.

  • How can I filter a table from Data Control without enter query

    I have a table from a web service data control based on WSDL.
    I want to filter the table without input query at filter text box. Without filter text box, each would filter the table with a hardcoded query internally.
    For example, when user click A menu button then it filters the table where type = '1' and B menu button filters the table by type='2' and C menu button filters the table by type=' ' .
    How can I filter the table without enter query?
    Could anyone point me to a solution please.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    when you created the table, did you try selecting the "filter" option. Select the table and go to the Property Inspctor. In the tool bar of the Property Inspector there is an icon to change the configuration. Its adding filter filter fields for the user to search in.
    Option 2: The data of the Web Service actually is held in the iterators. If you wanted to filter the WebService query, I would not use the WS DC but a JAX-WS proxy in a POJO to fetch the WS Data. Then have the Data Control created from the POJO. You could have a method exposed on the POJO that allows you to filter the internally held data

    I get a message saying 2008 is not a valid token which in AS400 means it doesn't like the year.  Go figure.
    I've tried running a similar query in AS400 and I get the desired affect.  I've tried removing the parameter from the Where clause and putting it into the Select like:
    CHAR ('{?From Date}') as MyTestDate
    just to see the representation I would get and I get the same error.
    The question I have like everyone else is; is this possible with this version of Crystal?  I assume so since the same query will work in the database itself.
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hi Brain,
        Can you please try the query similar to the following syntax and verify whether it helps you!
    Select * from Orders where ([Order Date]) =
    CStr({?Date})

  • Anything dragged from data control palette squeezes text out of jsp page

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.4. When I drag-and-drop anything from the data control palette onto a jsp page, then any template text on the page will be gone in the Design tab of the page, only the component from the data control palette is visible. The template data is still there though, as can be seen in the Source tab. This makes the Design tab unusable if I want to edit the text on the page. If want to drag-and-drop another component from the palette, I am not able to drop it in desired place since the page text is not visible.
    If these are relevant: the page is a jsp page and the tab libraries used in the page before the drag-and-drop are:
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>Besides the text on the page, I also had a JSF HTML command button added to the page:
    <h:commandButton value="Quit"/>After the drag-and-drop the ADF tag libraries were added by JDeveloper, and the directives became:
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces" prefix="af"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/html" prefix="afh"%>Is there any incompatibility between the elements from the different tag librarries? How to fix this problem? Or anybody had the same problem before and solved it?
    Thanks!
    Newman

    Shay,
    Thank you for the advice.

  • How to drag component from data control palette and drop in a line of text?

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.4 and get frustrated with my attempt to drag a component from the data control palette and drop it in a line of text in a .jspx page. What I need to accomplish is to display a line of text to the use on a page:
    Get clearance for the Spring 2009 semester.This is a line of static text except "Spring 2009" is the {color:green}Term{color} attribute of a view object dragged from the data control palette. I found that if I try to type some text on a page, as soon as I create a new line, a <f:verbatim> is created. So when I tryped the first part of the text, the code is:
    <f:verbatim>
    <p>
       Get clearance for the
    </p>
    </f:verbatim>Then drag-and-drop the bound data from the data control palette:
    <f:verbatim>
    <p>
       Get clearance for the
       <af:outputText value="#{bindings.Term.inputValue}"
                 binding="#{backing_student_printOrQuit.outputText6}"
                 id="outputText6"/>
    </p>
    </f:verbatim>And then add the last word:
    <f:verbatim>
    <p>
       Get clearance for the
       <af:outputText value="#{bindings.Term.inputValue}"
                 binding="#{backing_student_printOrQuit.outputText6}"
                 id="outputText6"/> term.
    </p>
    </f:verbatim>This looks OK in the Source tab. But in the Design tab the bound data jumps above the text line. Both the bound data and the <f:verbatim> appear to be block elements in the page. And so is it when the line is displayed in the browser:
    Spring 2009
    Get clearance for the term.How to overcome this problem?
    Thanks for sharing your experience.
    Newman

    Shay,
    Waht a surprise! Just now I had already finished typing the posting to tell that it did not work. I tried changing the original code to
    <f:verbatim>
    <p>
       Get clearance for the #{bindings.Term.inputValue} term.
    </p>
    </f:verbatim>and got the display:
    Get clearance for the #{bindings.Term.inputValue} term.I tried various ways, putting single quotes around the whole expression in single quotes, around part of it, using square brackets, ... I was going to click the "Post Message" button, but gave it one last try:
    <f:verbatim>
    <p>
       Get clearance for the ${bindings.Term.inputValue} term.
    </p>
    </f:verbatim>and I got it! --
    Get clearance for the Spring 2009 term.It was my gut feeling that I was quite close because the dot-separated hierarchy {color:green}bindings.Term.inputValue{color} looks right, only some tiny bit in syntax narrowly missing it. I was lucky.
    Thank you for the suggestion!
