Using StreamInsight to pull SQL Server data repeatedly.

I have a typed class as follows:
    public class CallEvent
        public int CallID { get; set; }
        public int CustomerID { get; set; }
        public int ContactCenterID { get; set; }
        public int CallDurationSeconds { get; set; }
        public DateTime CallEventDateTime { get; set; }
I can easily obtain data using a SQL Server stored procedure into a point stream and output with a simple pass-though LINQ query. However, the simple application I created only collects (and aggregates if I use another more complex LINQ query) the dataset
being initially called.  My problem is that I have these events being inserted continuously into the database and need to query the database on regular intervals.
I would like to create a repeatable call to the database using StreamInsight.  I have the stored procedure that SI uses to collect data and tracks what has been processed.  A simple example of the procedure code is as follows:
BEGIN
BEGIN TRANSACTION
SELECT CallID, CustomerID, ContactCenterID, CallDurationSeconds, CallDateTime
 FROM CUST.Calls
WHERE Processed = 0
ORDER BY CallID;
UPDATE CUST.Calls
  SET Processed = 1
WHERE Processed = 0
COMMIT TRANSACTION
END
I know I need a timer and I will have it fire every 15 seconds, having SI call the stored procedure, process the stream and aggregate the data over that 15 period using tumbling and hopping windows.  The LINQ Queries to do this is not my issue.  My
issue is that I'm new to SI and I'm trying to determine what part of the SI code; the query, the binding, what; would reside in my timer event process procedure.  Currently I'm trying to get away with just using IEnumerable sink.  Can I do that or
is a special input adapter going to be needed?
Thanks.

You need to create a source for your call events. The adapter model is an older approach to working with StreamInsight. The Rx approach is much simpler. Call it SqlCallEventSource. This class needs to implement the observable pattern by
implementing IObservable<CallEvent>. Inside your SqlCallEventSource, you can setup a timer to call your sproc on a 15 second interval. When your sproc call returns rows, project/map them into CallEvents, and then send the
events to your subscribers. After that, you just need to get the stream of events coming off the source and run it through your query logic before sending the results to a sink for output.

  • Using DB Link for SQL Server

    Hi All,
When I query the SQL server table from Oracle using DB Link, it works fine for any table:
select * from testtable@DBLINK test -- This statement works fine because I am giving * i.e. all columns
But when I try to query specific columns like
    Select test.status from testtable@DBLINK test
then it gives me error ORA-00904: "test.Status invalid Identifier", I can see this particular column when I query the testtable for all of the columns.
I don't know what to do.
    Thanks

You need to use quoted names. SQL Server data dictionary stores names in same case they were entered while Oracle in upper case. So when you issue
Select test.status from testtable@DBLINK test Oracle parser will look for column STATUS while on SQL Server side it could be stored, for examle, as Status or status. Check column names on SQL Server side and use quoted names. Assuming column name is Status:
Select test."Status" from testtable@DBLINK test SY.

  • No HS to remote SQL Server Data Source using NT Authentication?

I am attemping to use Generic Connectivity to pull SQL Server 2000 data into 10g.
We have the DSN configured, the oracle files modified properly (we have done similar setups before), and are able to successfully tnsping the SQL Server.
However, after creating our database, when trying to execute a query against the remote source I receive the following error message:
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
[Generic Connectivity Using ODBC][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL
    Server]Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. (SQL State: 28000;
    SQL Code: 18456)
    ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from IDW_LINK
As the message indicates that the error is coming from the SQL Server, I assume a connection is being established.
I remember reading postings here from a couple years back about HS not being able to connect to remote SQL Servers when NT Authentication is required. Is this still the case?
I did in fact provide to the link my "domain\username", "password" combination that has access to the sql server, but this is of course using NT Authentication.
Any ideas on why HS would be sending "NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS" to the sql server? Is this still the already existing problem of no NT Auth for remote data sources?

Have you found a solution for this? Thanks.

  • Can we use different Databases (Oracle & SQL Server) in one report?

    Post Author: venki5star
    CA Forum: .NET
    Hi there.
Can we use different databases (Oracle & SQL Server) in a same report?
    If possible how?
    Another question,
Can we change the Provider Name at runtime of the given report. If so the above question is useless...
    Thanks in Advance.

I tried this using Oracle Provider for OLEDB (the one that supplied by Oracle Client) and Crystal Reports 9. you can drag the column into designer but the image does not appear in preview.
I guess it's because CR does not recognized it as image, and there are no information that the blob data is an image at all.

  • (new?) performance problem using jDriver after a Sql Server 6.5 to 2000 conversion

    Hi,
This is similar - yet different - to a few of the old postings about performance
problems with using jdbc drivers against Sql Server 7 & 2000.
    Here's the situation:
I am running a standalone java application on a Solaris box using BEA's jdbc driver
to connect to a Sql Server database on another network. The application retrieves
data from the database through joins on several tables for approximately 40,000
unique ids. It then processes all of this data and produces a file. We tuned
the app so that the execution time for a single run through the application was
24 minutes running against Sql Server 6.5 with BEA's jdbc driver. After performing
a DBMS conversion to upgrade it to Sql Server 2000 I switched the jDriver to the
Sql Server 2000 version. I ran the app and got an alarming execution time of
5hrs 32 min. After some research, I found the problem with unicode and nvarchar/varchar
and set the "useVarChars" property to "true" on the driver. The execution time
for a single run through the application is now 56 minutes.
56 minutes compared to 5 1/2 hrs is an amazing improvement. However, it is still
over twice the execution time that I was seeing against the 6.5 database. Theoretically,
I should be able to switch out my jdbc driver and the DBMS conversion should be
invisible to my application. That would also mean that I should be seeing the
same execution times with both versions of the DBMS. Has anybody else seen a
simlar situation? Are there any other settings or fixes that I can put into place
to get my performance back down to what I was seeing with 6.5? I would rather
not have to go through and perform another round of performance tuning after having
already done this when the app was originally built.
    thanks,
    mike

    Joe,
This was actually my next step. I replaced the BEA driver with
the MS driver and let it run through with out making any
configuration changes, just to see what happened. I got an
execution time of about 7 1/2 hrs (which was shocking). So,
(comparing apples to apples) while leaving the default unicode
property on, BEA ran faster than MS, 5 1/2 hrs to 7 1/2 hrs.
I then set the 'SendStringParametersAsUnicode' to 'false' on the
MS driver and ran another test. This time the application
executed in just over 24 minutes. The actual runtime was 24 min
16 sec, which is still ever so slightly above the actual runtime
against SS 6.5 which was 23 min 35 sec, but is twice as fast as the
56 minutes that BEA's driver was giving me.
I think that this is very interesting. I checked to make sure that
there were no outside factors that may have been influencing the
runtimes in either case, and there were none. Just to make sure,
I ran each driver again and got the same results. It sounds like
there are no known issues regarding this?
We have people looking into things on the DBMS side and I'm still
looking into things on my end, but so far none of us have found
anything. We'd like to continue using BEA's driver for the
support and the fact that we use Weblogic Server for all of our
online applications, but this new data might mean that I have to
switch drivers for this particular application.Thanks. No, there is no known issue, and if you put a packet sniffer
between the client and DBMS, you will probably not see any appreciable
difference in the content of the SQL sent be either driver. My suspicion is
that it involves the historical backward compatibility built in to the DBMS.
It must still handle several iterations of older applications, speaking obsolete
versions of the DBMS protocol, and expecting different DBMS behavior!
Our driver presents itself as a SQL7-level application, and may well be treated
differently than a newer one. This may include different query processing.
Because our driver is deprecated, it is unlikely that it will be changed in
future. We will certainly support you using the MS driver, and if you look
in the MS JDBC newsgroup, you'll see more answers from BEA folks than
    from MS people!
    Joe
    >
    >
    Mike
The next test you should do, to isolate the issue, is to try another
    JDBC driver.
MS provides a type-4 driver now, for free. If it is significantly faster,
    it would be
interesting. However, it would still not isolate the problem, because
    we still would
need to know what query plan is created by the DBMS, and why.
    Joe Weinstein at BEA
PS: I can only tell you that our driver has not changed in it's semantic
    function.
It essentially send SQL to the DBMS. It doesn't alter it.

I'm trying to migrate a Sql Server 2k database to an Oracle 8i schema using OMWB. After using BCP to collect metadata information on the source database, I tried to capture the source data model and got a "Capture aborted" message on the progress screen (even though then it appears a dialog window reporting "0 errors and 0 warnings", funny!). • SSIS: To run a SSIS package outside of SQL Server Data Tools you must install SCR - DP1 Connections of Integration Services or higher

We have SSIS installed on a machine that is not part of a cluster but it is accessible by the cluster.
Our job we have running on the cluster is failing with the following error:
    Error: 2014-01-31 09:14:37.52     Code: 0xC000F427     Source: SCR - DP1 Connections
Description: To run a SSIS package outside of SQL Server Data Tools you must install SCR - DP1 Connections of Integration Services or higher.  End Error
Any advice or information on how to resolve this would be great.
    Many Thanks.

    Hi NessaBella,
Integration Services service is not a cluster-aware service, and does not support failover from one cluster node to another. Therefore, in a clustered environment, Integration Services should be installed and started as a stand-alone service on each node
    in the cluster.
Based on the error message, it seems that SSIS is not installed on the cluster node on which the job was running. Although SSIS is installed on a machine that is not part of the cluster and can be accessed by each cluster node, the SSIS service installed
on a remote server cannot be used a cluster node. So, please install the shared feature SQL Server Integration Services on each cluster node. Besides, if certain packages need to run in 32-bit mode in certain jobs and the SQL Server installed is 64-bit version,
you also need to install BIDS/SSDT on the cluster node to get the 32-bit runtime of SSIS.

My SQL is on a different server
    Thank you in advanced

    Have you reviewed the setup.log?
On a side note, why would you put the database file on the same drive as the OS? That defeats the whole purpose of having a remote SQL Server. Why use a remote SQL Server in the first place.

    Iko says
You can now use Visual Studio 2010 to edit .rtproj report projects and .rdl reports.
You need VS10 SP1, then install the Data Tools for VS10, followed by the installation of SQL Server Express 2012 with Reporting Services and Data Tools.

    Hi Kiquenet,
According to your description, you installed VS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2, and create Reporting Services projects. Now you want to use VS 2010 or VS 2012 to open and manage the reports.
SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 supports versions of SQL Server 2012 or lower, we can directly download Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 from
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36843, then select SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Client Connectivity SDK as
    new shard features to install.
We can open the projects in both Visual Studio 2012 and Visual Studio 2010. For local mode only (that is, when not connected to SQL Server), we won’t get the design-time experience for controls that are associated with the viewer in Visual Studio 2008, but
the project will function correctly at runtime. If we add a feature that’s specific to Visual Studio 2012, the report schema is upgraded automatically and you can no longer open the project in Visual Studio 2008.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

  • SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013 (SSDT BI) and SSIS on SQL Server 2012

    This great blog entry titled
SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013 (SSDT BI), link below, highlights the lack of support for SSIS projects using SQL Server 2012, VS 2013 and SSDT BI for VS 2013. I see there is a new version
on SSDT BI for VS 2013 (12.0.2430.0, File Name: SSDTBI_x86_ENU.exe, Date Published: 10/27/2014) link below.

    Hi cjrinpdx,
According to the picture, it seems that we can use SSIS 2012 support is not included in SSDT-BI for VS 2013. And based on the previous versions, SSIS always different from SSRS, SSAS.
SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2012 supports versions of SQL Server as follows:
SSAS project can target SQL 2012 or lower
SSRS project can target SQL 2012 or lower
SSIS project can target only SQL 2012

  • Association rule in SQL Server Data Mining

I have been working on a problem on association rules in SQL Server Data Tools (Visual Studio 2008) for quite a while but have not yet been able to figure out the solution.
The problem is: I have a table named Sales_history in my SQL database. This table has following columns: CustomerID, ItemID, Month (from May2012 to April 2013), QtyShipped. I am looking to find association between Items and i want to provide recommendation
to the Customer (In this case CustomerID) based on their purchases.
Note: there are around 630 customers and about 34000 products in my table.
    My approach:
I marked History_Table as both Key and nested. And in the Key, i checked CustomerID as input and Key whereas in nested, i checked ItemId as Key, input and Predict.
When i run the model, i get a solution but i am not sure if i am configuring it right. Also i am not sure how i can write prediction join query to generate Item recommendations . I am really struggling with
this problem, eagerly waiting for the reply. Thank you.

    Hi Tatyana,
Thank you so much for your reply. I have now been able to create the data mining model using association rule and by writing a DMX query, i am able to generate the item recommendations to be given to customers for items they have purchased. However, i have
noticed one thing that in the DMX query, it gives the same item recommendation for any item i put inside the query.
Also, if i put any item in the DMX query from the generated list of recommended items, the output of that query also shows the item that is inputted inside the query.
Here is the query, that i am writing to generate item recommendations
SELECT predictassociation (CrossSellingModelV3.[Ztb Customer Item v3],INCLUDE_STATISTICS,5)
    FROM CrossSellingModelV3
    NATURAL PREDICTION JOIN
    (SELECT
    (SELECT '17IS56126' as m )
    AS Ms)
    AS t
What can be the possible reason behind this? Is this something related to the kind of data i have? In my data, there are 632 distinct customers and 34000 distinct products.
If i execute this query in management studio.
    select customer_CD, COUNT(Item_CD) from ztb_Sales_History
    group by customer_CD
    order by 2 desc
the output shows that  there are some customers who have bought just 1 item and also there are customers who have bought 2400 items. i mean the range is very high.
