Using STRUTS on oc4j ????

Hi!
I'm experiencing problems when trying to run a sample STRUTS-application on OC4J.
I have placed it under 'default-web-app' and I'm pretty sure that the rest of the configuration is OK (updated Application.xml and http-web-site.xml). But it will not work!!
From the global-application.log:
7/16/02 11.06 AM Banking: JspServlet: unable to dispatch to requested page: oracle.jsp.parse.JspParseException: Line # 3, <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-bean.tld" prefix="bean" %> ERROR: duplicated tag definitions within the same TLD: password
at oracle.jsp.parse.XMLUtil.domDocToTagLib(XMLUtil.java:870)
But the problem is that there is NO duplicated definitions of the 'password'-tag in the file 'struts-bean.tld'!!!!!!!!!
Have anybody experienced similar problems with STRUTS and OC4J ?
I have deployed the same application to JBOSS (just dropping the war-file on the deploy-catalog of JBoss), and it starts off immediately.
The web-application is in a file called banking.war. The application can be downloaded from TheServerSide.com, in the free downloads from the Struts book by O'Reilley, and its in the zip-file for Chapter 3.
I would appreciate any response on this issue, and maybe we don't have to switch to JBoss to make our application work...?

I saw a post on this recently. The error is in the Struts build that you are using. Apparently the latest builds have eradicated this bug. Therefore remove Struts, download a later version and re-deploy.
For what it's worth, I would deploy your application as a seperate application. If you want to use directories that's fine (unless you are using 9iAS, i.e. OEM). Simply edit the server.xml file to add a new application pointing to the directory containing your stuff. Don't forget that the directory structure has to be EAR standard. There is another thread about this.
Then edit the http-web-site.xml (or default-web-site.xml in 1022) to add your web application.
Simple. It also makes removing an application a lot easier if you have to upgrade your version of Struts.

  • Using Struts with JDeveloper, BC4J and OC4J 9.0.2

    Is it feasible to use Struts with JDeveloper 9.0.2, BC4J 9.0.2 and OC4J 9.0.2? We have an application that uses the BC4J JBO tags in version 9.0.2. We wish to use Struts and we want to retain the use of the JBO tags. Is there a way to do this without upgrading to 9.0.3?

    Here are two related questions:
    Can we upgrade to oracle9iAS 9.0.3 yet still use JDeveloper 9.0.2 and BC4J/JBO 9.0.2?

    If you are using JDeveloper then remove the following file:
    <JDEV_HOME>\j2ee\home\jaxb-rt-1.0-ea.jar
    <JDEV_HOME> is the location where you have JDeveloper installed.
    When you compiled your classes, you compiled them with JAXB 1.1 libraries in the JWSDP 1.3.
    When you were running your classes within JDeveloper, OC4J looked at the jaxb-rt-1.0-ea.jar library before looking at the libraries in WEB-INF\lib, causing the IncompatibleClassChangeError.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I get the context-parm from a web.xml file using struts?

    Hello:
    I need get the context-param from the web.xml file of my web project using struts. I want configurate the jdbc datasource connection pooling here. For example:
    <context-param>
    <param-name>datasource</param-name>
    <param-value>jdbc/formacion</param-value>
    <description>Jdbc datasource</description>
    </context-param>
    and then from any Action class get this parameter.
    Similar using a simple server can be:
    /** Initiates new XServlet */
    public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
              for (Enumeration e = config.getInitParameterNames(); e.hasMoreElements();) {
                   System.out.println(e.nextElement());
              super.init(config);
              String str = config.getInitParameter("datasource");
              System.out.println(str);
         public void doPost(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res)
              throws ServletException, IOException {
              // res.setContentType( );
              System.out.println("Got post request in XServlet");
              PrintWriter out = res.getWriter();
              out.println("nada");
              out.flush();
              out.close();
    but only this works for init-params, if I use
    <servlet>
         <servlet-name>MyServlet</servlet-name>
         <display-name>MyServlet</display-name>
         <servlet-class>myExamples.servlet.MyServlet</servlet-class>
         <init-param>
         <param-name>datasource</param-name>
         <param-value>jdbc/formacion</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </servlet>
    inside my web.xml. I need something similar, but using struts inside the action class for that I can get the context-params and call my database.
    Thank you

    To get context parameters from your web.xml file you can simply get the ActionServlet object from an implementing action object class. In the perform (or execute) method make the following call.
    ServletContext context = getServlet().getServletContext();
    String tempContextVar =
    context.getInitParameter("<your context param >");

  • How to use the same OC4j server with different port number

    How to use the same OC4j server with different port numbers..?
    I have to OC4J installed on my machine on different hard disk drives....
    I want to be able to run both the server simultaneously..?
    is it possible ..it yes then how..?
    for that i have changed the port number of one server...
    but when i am trying to start the other server with different port number..it says that JVM -Bind already...
    Is there any clues...?
    Nilesh G

    In the config directory:
    default-web-site.xml: Change the port the HTTP listener listens on
    jms.xml: Change the port the JMS service listens on
    rmi.xml: Change the port the ORMI listener listens on.
    Or, you can add another web-site.xml file, and deploy your applications to 1 server, and bind the web applications to the different web sites. This way you only have to deploy your applications to 1 place.

  • How to assign bean value to a local variable in JSP using struts.

    Hi everybody!
    I've a problem that puzzled me on how to assign a bean value to a local variable like String in JSP using struts.
    we can have someting like this to display the value
    <bean:write name="detailService" property="status" />or
    <bean:define id="theStatus" name="detailService" property="status"/>
         This is country: <%=theStatus%>but an error occured when I tried like this:
    String currentStatus = "<bean:define id="theStatus" name="detailService" property="status"/>";
    or
    String currentStatus = "<bean:write name="detailService" property="status" />";Is there a way to do this?.....
    Any help pretty much appreciated

    Java != JSP.
    The <bean:define> and <bean:write> tags are custom tags meant to appear in the HTML section of a JSP file, as opposed to the scriptlet section. They actually get turned into java code as part of the translation process.
    The <bean:write> tag naturally just writes out what you tell it to.
    The <bean:define> tag defines a local variable, and gives it a value.
    this should do it.
    <bean:define id="theStatus" name="detailService" property="status" type="java.lang.String"/>
    <%
      String currentStatus = theStatus;
    %>With the advent of JSTL, you shouldn't really need to use scriptlet code anymore. Personally I am for 0% scriptlet code in any jsp I write.

  • Issue in converting Struts view to JSF view using struts-faces integration

    Hi All,
    I am facing a issue in my Sruts to JSF conversion application using struts-faces.jar integration library.
    Need expert's help desperately as I am not able to use <s:form> tag in my new jsf page to call a struts action.
    I want to call a struts action from my web page designed using JSF,
    but it seems impossible without using <s:form> tag from struts-faces integration library.
    Please suggest how to resolve this...
    I am using WSAD 5.1 IDE with inbuilt Test environment WebSphere server
    JSF Version: Sun's RI 1.1
    Struts framework: 1.2.6
    Struts-Faces Integration Library version: 1.0
    I have configured a controller element in struts-config.xml file as has been suggested by different online
    documents I studied:
    <controller>
    <set-property property="processorClass"
    value="org.apache.struts.faces.application.FacesRequestProcessor"/>
    </controller>
    But configuring a controller does not allow my test server to start up properly and due to errors the ActionServlet also becomes unavailable.
    If I comment the controller and start the test server it starts fine but then I cannot access the converted jsf page which contains the <s:form action="/xxxxx.do"> tag.
    If now I get back to <h:form> tag instead of <s:form> tag with a <h:commandButton action="xxxx.do"/> for form submission in my jsf page, I see the html page generated with all components but now checking the html source generated I see
    <form action="/contextName/jspFolder/sameDisplayedPage.jsf"> which is not valid and never gets called successfully.
    I think someways I need to use the <s:form> tag with the controller configured properly to use the struts-faces integration library's request processor, to get things working. But HOW???
    Following is the error I get if I use the <controller> tag element in struts-config.xml file and start the server.
    This error appears on starting the server without accessing any application's jsp web page

    Finally if I change my <s:form action="xxxxx.do"> tag to
    <h:form>
    <h:commandButton id="submit" action="xxxx.do" value="Submit" />
    I see the webpage coming up in the browser (no controller element used in struts-config.xml file this time)
    But in the html source of this html created from jsf I see
    <form id="_id2" method="post" action="/training2/jsp/welcomeF.faces" enctype="application/x-www-form-urlencoded">
    here form's action attribute is pointing to the same displayed page with the context name prefixed. I
    assume it is because jsf could not resolve the "xxxx.do" action to anything so set it to the same displayed page.
    May be I am wrong as usual...
    Below is the simple struts jsp page which I need to convert to jsf page as I am converting only the View part of application.
    I want to use the same struts beans and application logic at the back-end. At front-end I need UIComponents from JSF to be used.
    Following is the struts jsp page
    <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1" %>
    <%@ taglib prefix="html" uri="/WEB-INF/lib/struts-html.tld" %>
    <%@ taglib prefix="bean" uri="/WEB-INF/lib/struts-bean.tld" %>
    <html:html>
    <html:base/>
    <html:messages id="messages" />
    <font style="color:red; font=weight:italic; font-family: century gothic">
    <html:errors/>
    </font>
    <BODY>
    <P>Sample Struts and JSF integration example</P>
    <P>This one is being displayed via Struts specific tags</P>
    <html:form action="validateUser.do">
    <bean:message key="label.name" /> : <html:text property="name" />
    <bean:message key="label.password" /> : <html:password property="password" />
    <bean:message key="label.age" /> : <html:text property="age" />
    <bean:message key="label.city" /> : <html:text property="city" />
    <bean:message key="label.address" /> : <html:text property="address" />
    <html:submit property="submit" value="Show info via Struts" />
    </html:form>
    </BODY>
    </html:html>
    I have converted it into the following jsf page
    <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f" %>

    <%@ taglib uri="http://struts.apache.org/tags-faces" prefix="s" %>
    <f:view>
    <HTML><BODY>

    I've managed to get this working Ok from JDeveloper:
    See:
    http://www.groundside.com/blog/content/DuncanMills/J2EE+Development/?permalink=573FDB6F8D918B9704907899635CABB1.txt
    http://www.groundside.com/blog/content/DuncanMills/J2EE+Development/?permalink=2B04ACE99A6437EDED775F15553D1DED.txt
    Basically you just have to fiddle around with Library settings to get this working OK.
    As to how useful this is, well that's up to you - I'd not regard Faces + Struts as a must use combination, rather it's a can mix if you really need to. Look at Faces and Faces navigation first and see if that actually gives you enough before you start to look at mixing.

  • Should we use struts? Or another framework?

    Hi all!
    The company I work at is building a set of java applications (internal tools) and a website (what the clients will use). So our internal tools' users are our employees, and clients will use the website. Anyways, small introduction to get you situated. Also we use an object oriented database system (very high tech stuff I love it) and a JDO mapping to it. Now we are at the stage where all our internal tools are built, and we need to build the website. We will not have MASSIVE traffic to it, the nature of our product is more likely to be used often by a few clients. Our website will have all the standard stuff, like login, my account, mailing list, forum, news feed, menues, and a billing process for our clients, so we need some security.
    All this to ask this simple question, given these parameters, do you think its a good thing for us to use Struts, or would we be ok with just jsp / servlets? For now, we have determined that using an application server is not necessary (we cant use EJB CMP because of JDO, and like I said we dont expect massive traffic), and we are looking for using templates also (Velocity looks good). The bottleneck for us is does it require a big learning curve, considering we are still newbies at jsp / servlets also. We would like to spend no more than 1 to 1 1/2 month to build the website.
    Thanks for your thoughts, sorry for long post :)

    The bottleneck
    for us is does it require a big learning curve,
    considering we are still newbies at jsp / servlets
    also. Struts definitely has a ramp up time -- especially if you are extensively using the taglibs that it comes with (and which provide most of it's power, in my opinion). If you are still ramping up on servlets and such, struts can free you from doing stuff that you would have to figure out for yourself. E.g.
    1. Proper handling of forms to provide validation and little detail things like repopulating them if something goes wrong
    2. Displaying messages back to the end user.
    3. Boring code to get html input from the user and put it into your object model.
    Personally, I think that struts makes it much easier to make robust and consistent applications, especially if multiple developers are working on a project. Also, since it is fairly well known, it's a lot easier to maintain/pickup an app written in struts rather than a custom job. Of course, that means that you don't have as much job security...;)
    So the question to you may be -- given what you know of what you need to do, what do you think will take longer -- building your own framework or learning one that has a fair amount of developer support. Of course everybody could do their own thing and you could spend a month mishmashing it to work together, which isn't unheard of either (although not recommended).

  • Saving results displayed on jsp into a text file using struts actions

    Hi,
    i am developing a web application using struts...the basic functionality of the system is to retrieve data from the database based on the search conditions given by the user. Hence for different search criteria there are different JSP result screens. Struts and persistence are being used. The user should be able to save/view the data loaded on the screen in a text file when he clicks on the save button.
    I am supposed to write an action for fileoutput which can be used by all the result screens...instead of writing the same code in all the jsp pages...how do i go about it? I have already written an action class for the same but when i click on the save button a blank IE screen opens up instead of the open /save dialog box...i have also added mappings for the same in struts config xml file....any suggestions?

    Again, you have posted to the wrong board. SignalExpress is an application written in LabVIEW.

  • Can I use Struts Validator Plugin's html:javascript tag?

    Hi:
    Is it possible to incorporate the client-side validation using Struts Validator
    Plugin's tag <html:javascript>?
    i.e.
    1) Insert the following tag to A.jsp and define a taglib:
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-html.tld" prefix="html"%>
    <html:javascript formName="aForm" staticJavascript="true"/>
    2) Define validation.xml as follows:
    <form-validation>
    <formset>
    <form name="aForm">
    <field property="aField"
    depends="required">
    <msg name="required" key="FieldMissingError"/>
    </field>
    </form>
    </formset>
    </form-validation>
    3) Insert the onSubmit event in aForm:
    <netui:form action="SubmitAForm" style="border-width:1px;" onSubmit="validateAForm(this)">

    Instead of writing something like this -
    <p class="logos">Logo1<a href="...></a></p>
    <p class="logos">Logo2<a href="...></a></p>
    <p class="logos">Logo3<a href="...></a></p>

    <div id="logodiv">

    <p>Logo2<a href="...></a></p>
    <p>Logo3<a href="...></a></p>

  • Loading Collections in to DropDownList box using Struts with bean

    Hi folks,
    I am very new to struts.
    I am developing one small web application using struts. I has developed Bussiness Logic, i need to use properly in struts.
    ManufacturerList.java is a Bussiness Logic class using to load all manufacturer from the database. It using by the collection LinkedHashMap.
    I need to use this BL in my struts application.
    GOAL: In sturts application i need to add the car details, one of the property for car is manufacturer.
    When creating the car, it should display all the manufacturer in the new student form.
    Please explain how to create with struts.
    Some of the Code i developed
    {color:#ff0000}<html:form action="/Car?op=saveCar">
    <html:errors/>
    <html:hidden property="op" value="saveCar"/>
    <html:hidden property="carCode"/>

  • How to get parameter and add it to hyperlink using struts tag?

    Hi everyone:
    There is a.jsp pass a parameter to b.jsp.How to get the parameter in b.jsp using struts Tag?I also want to add the parameter to a hyperlink in b.jsp.For example in b.jsp <html:link forward=.....>cxxxx</html:link>.How to add the parameter(get from a.jsp) to cXXXX in b.jsp?

    Try this:
    Copy A Request Parameter - You can create a new bean containing the value of a parameter included in this request. If no parameter of the specified name was included, a request time exception will be thrown - therefore, it is common to nest the use of this tag inside a <logic:present parameter="xxx"> tag to ensure that the parameter was really included. If there is the possibility that more than one parameter of the same name was included, specify the "multiple" attribute (and the resulting value bean will be an array of String values, instead of a single String).
    <bean:parameter id="name" name="name"/>
    And then just use <html:link> with paramId. No java code at all.

  • No way to use CMP in OC4J?

    Hi, it seems we can never user CMP in OC4J.
    OC4J does not support EJB-QL. So how can we implement the finder methods?
    1) One way is to put finder methods in ejb home interface, and add implementation (using direct JDBC) in bean class. But the server could not find the correnspondent finder methods even we match them; Also, if we use findBy*** in home interface, and use ejbFindBy***, it still does not work.
    2) Another option is to put finder method as an odinary business method in remote interface, and add implementation (using direct JDBC) in bean class. But, before we call this method, we must instantiate the bean by calling create() (without arguments, because we do not want to create record to db). We will get an error: Primary key was null.
    So it seems we can never use CMP in OC4J, until it supports EJB-QL.
    Thanks,

    I use CMP all the time. OC4J (since it is based on Orion) should generate certain finder queries (except for perhaps the WHERE clause that you may have to add yourself to the orion-ejb-jar.xml file) for you just by entering them in the home interface. You can do advanced finders as well. What you need is the proper documentation:
    Checkout:
    http://kb.atlassian.com/content/orionsupport/articles/finders.html
    http://kb.atlassian.com/content/orionsupport/articles/ejbfinderquery.html
    as good places to start. No JDBC necessary!
    Cheers
