Using svn+ssh with SCM in XCode

I'm trying to set up XCode (latest version) to use svn+ssh to access my repository, but authentication always fails.
I checkout the repository from the remote server and can operate on it as expected from the command line. However, from XCode it wont authenticate. There doesn't appear to be any options related to how XCode uses svn, so I guessed it uses whatever setup is in the local working copy of the project.
When you activate SCM it has found the correct server, path and user. But there is no indication of what protocol is being used.
ie, it say server: myserver.com
It doesn't say server: svn+ssh://myserver.com
Any idea how to get it to work?

svn info on the command line reports that it's svn+ssh, however XCode just wont connect.
I can connect fine on the command line.

  • Cron job not running - script uses rsync, ssh (with id_rsa)

    Does anyone know how to get cron to run a rsync/ssh script which uses id_rsa for passwordless logins?
    I have a backup script I have slaved for months over that works wonderfully when running it from the command line.
    It uses rsync and connects with SSH (passwordless using ssh keys). I have setup id_rsa and id_rsa.pub for passwordless logins (this is my user account, and connects using root@ to the server)
    As stated all works find when run from the command line. But when I setup a cron job to run this file (exact same line I run from the command line) it does not execute. Actually, it does run, as I have an email notifiction which sends to me. It is just the rsync/ssh part that does not run.
    I have spent days and days trying to figure it out. No error messages occur, nothing.  Took me a while to find out cron is emailing the user account on Lion the messages (not to a proper email address).
    The error shows a permission denied, which I believe to be the cron user cannot use the id_rsa/ssh connection.
    Cron is running the script as my user, the same I use on the command line. I even tried copying the id_rsa to the root user .ssh folder in case cron is running as root but that does not work either.
    So does anyone know how to get cron to run this rsync/ssh script which used id_rsa for passwordless logins?
    Thanks a lot

    YES! Got it working, finally!
    So the issue is indeed cron/launchd not being able to access the ssh-agent which holds the key.
    So this is the solution...
    Download keychain for Mac:
    http://www.funtoo.org/wiki/Keychain
    Then once its installed and configured, the script to run needs this added to the top:
    eval `keychain --noask --eval id_rsa` || exit 1
    Note I am using id_rsa whereas keychains instructions refer to id_dsa so I just changed it and it works OK.
    When the script runs the first time it asks for the key password. Then it works from then on.
    What I do not know yet is will I need to re-enter the password when I logoff/logon again. That will cause an issue as I auto restart the Mac every day which means if I am off for a few days backup will stop (can you see the madness in this issue!).

  • Docs on XCode and using svn

    Background
    It has been a long time since I worked actively with any version control software. Long before cvs was available, we rolled our own, with a combination of check-out and check-in methods which could be overridden based on permissions given to different users.
    I barely used cvs at one of my previous positions, and actually just left the archiving to the group that wanted me to write the code. I gave them new releases and they put them into cvs.
    Now, svn seems to be the tool of choice, and I have been able to extract code from other people's svn repositories, but have no real experience in setting one up from scratch, or integrating it with an existing or new XCode project.
    I have read the svn docs, a few months ago, while looking at various code examples, so I have a very rudimentary understanding of the commands, but would certainly NOT call myself proficient. I'm not sure I would even consider myself qualified to be a noob as far as actually using svn. However, after rolling my own and managing it for many years, I understand all the concepts.
    I'm on OSX 10.5.8 using XCode 3.1.3. SnowLeopard is still a twinkle in my eye as far as upgrading, however I plan to look at upgrading to XCode 3.1.4 once I shift some disk space around so I have room for the upgrade.
    Question
    How do I step-by-step take a project, in this case, a complete working project in XCode, that I could call version 1.0, and put it under svn version control. There appear to be hooks in XCode for this already, but i do not know enough about either XCode or svn and how they interact.
    My main interest is in being able to take my working project and try some new code or features, and still be able to grab the most recent prior working version, instead of just having the one current development version.
    Pointers to the right documentation sections would be most helpful, but please don't just tell me to read all the docs, XCode, svn, cvs, etc. and figure out how the pieces fit together. I've already tried that and none of what I read stuck in my memory as far as how they work together.
    If this is the wrong place to ask this question, please direct me to any better places.

    I'm going with the newer docs!
    Et made a really solid point in advising you not to choose your archiving and versioning tools based on what Xcode directly supports. I'm currently collaborating on an iPhone project with a friend on the East Coast who set us up with Beanstalk and Versions. Beanstalk is free, but the Versions client was about 50 USD. This is my first experience with SVN so I'm unable to compare it with other products, but I can tell you it meets all the needs of a 2-programmer project quite nicely. We're also getting the advantage of an offsite server backup in the bargain. So far I've seen nothing but good reviews of Beanstalk, and haven't yet seen any sign of our code or artwork in the store, so I feel fairly comfortable with this service.
    Anyway returning to Et's point, I haven't even tried hooking the above up to Xcode. The Versions client lets you sync one or more folders to the archive on Beanstalk. So if you sync up your Xcode project folder, you're good to go. As always I'm putting this out there so others can teach me how to use SVN correctly, but that's what I'm doing now and quite happy with it.

    Thanks!!
    Matias

    Whenever this happens you should be able to do a "file>save as" and save the project in a new directory -- at least you won't be loosing your work.
    Basically I think the problem is either that somehow you corrupted the project with checkin/checkout process, or you did not check out a file that the Mapping Workbench is trying to update when you save the project.
    10g Mapping Workbench, I have heard, is going to have more intelligence in the area and note ahead of time which files need to be checked out when you save your project. I think a developer preview will be available any day now, keep your eyes peeled to the OTN webpage for TopLink.
    The mapping workbench reference guide has a couple pages that talk about how to use it with SCM systems. In TopLink 903 these docs are shipped with TopLink. See page 1-11 for more info.

  • Using SSH with Playbook

    BlackBerry Playbook OS v2.0
    BlackBerry phone 9870
    SSH Software PaderSync SSH
    Carrier: Bell Canada
    I am trying to use a Playbook to connect remotely via SSH (using PaderSync SSH) to an office server while bridged to a BlackBerry phone but keep getting 'unable to connect' error. When I disconnect the bridge and connect remotely via a WiFi network only I have no problems using the exact same settings in PaderSync SSH. So, I don't think it is the application but rather some kind of restrictions on the phone.
    To try to isolate the problem and make sure it isn't the PaderSync application, I have downloaded and installed a Telnet application. Again issues occur when bridged. The telnet application will not connect remotely when bridged to the phone but with WiFi everything works fine.
    Is anyone able to shed some light on the issue and possible solutions to work around it?
    Thank you
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    My client had some time to play with this and found that if he first tethered the Playbook and phone he was then able to connect to the office server.
    I guess I misunderstood how it all worked. I assumed that 'bridging' the devices was enough to make it work.
    Just thought I would update the status in case others ran into similar issues.

  • SVN SSH (4.1 EA2)

    Hello,
    I have a question about supporting "svn+ssh://" subversion connection.
    According documentation at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E39885_01/appdev.40/e38414/dialogs.htm#RPTUG41648 it should be feasible to connect.
    But it seems, that it always requires User name / Password for authentication.
    But in our case we have authentication using Private Key File.
    Is it possible to connect to subversion when authenticating is done by this Private Key File?
    I see some bigger subversion setting in Tools > Preferences > Subversion > General > Edit server. Should I edit this file for Private Key File authentication?
    Thank you in advance,
    Pavel

    Hello,
    I played around a little:
    global settings checked make some changes in naming standards --> both dl_settings.xml files are updated
    global settings unchecked make some extra changes in naming standards --> dl_settings.xml file in project is updated
    close the design and re-open it --> all changes are gone?
    I also tested it with 4.1.873 (EA2) and our current version and I wasn't able to reproduce it.
    Here is a possible scenario leading to bad dl_settings in open design for your colleague:
    1) system data types directory is not set (default datamodeler\datamodeler\types directory is used) - i.e it's not versioned
    2) dl_settings are set as global settings
    3)  at other workstation - after
    3.1 update and
    3.2 open design,
    3.3 DM sees dl_settings are global and
    3.4 reload them from system data types directory - at this point older settings will be loaded.
    The easiest way to fix that is to clear global flag (at your computer) and commit changes, then your colleague can update them again.
    I don't get it.
    In the project folders structure is a dl_settings.xml.merge_conflicts.local file with the same timestamp
    The file contains records about conflicts during update and merge(trunk<>branch) operations. It's with extension local because it should not go to repository.
    The name is strange but does it matter - it implies that information was in dl-settings (which is a wrong place for such records) and now it's in separate file.

  • [solved] Troubleshoot ssh with keys (works from LAN, not WAN)

    I'm trying to set up ssh so that I can connect to my work computer from home. It is pretty much essential that I keep the work box as secure as possible at all times. (So I can't disable the firewall, come home and test it because IT would not be at all happy.)
    I'm not sure if this is an Arch question, a Fedora question or a general Linux/networking question.
    The work box is running Fedora 17. It has a firewall eerily like the "simple stateful firewall" described on Arch's wiki. It is running sshd. Public key authentication is enabled. No other form of authentication is enabled. It has a rule allowing ssh connections.
    My laptop is running Arch. It has a firewall very like that described on the "simple stateful firewall" page. It has a couple of rules allowing stuff I need at home (printer and something I had to enable for the LAN).
    Initially, I was given an internal ip address. I got this working fine i.e. I could ssh into the box from my laptop while sitting next to it in my office over the LAN. I'm using the default form of key pair generated on Arch (i.e. rsa) and am using gpg-agent with ssh support in lieu of ssh-agent to manage keys. Pin entry is using the qt front end as I'm on KDE. (I adapted KDE's config so that it starts gpg-agent with ssh support for the session so that I didn't end up with two instances.)
    Once the firewall was in place and sshd was running, they gave me a public ip address. At this point, no port was opened in their firewall to allow WAN connections but I tested the public ip address from within the LAN and it once again worked fine.
    Once I'd confirmed the machine could connect out after getting a public ip, they arranged for the port to be opened for ssh. However, I cannot connect to the machine from home.

    debug1: connect to address xxx.xxx.xxx.x port nn: Connection timed out

    xxx.xxx.xxx.x is the public ip (works fine from LAN)
    nn is the port number
    username is my user name (same on both machines)
    The options for the host from ssh_config are:
    AddressFamily inet
    Compression yes
    ControlMaster auto
    ControlPath ~/.ssh/socket-%r@%h:%p
    and the only generic option applied to all hosts is just a line to insist on protocol 2 which I think is default now anyway but I followed the wiki and specified it to be sure.
    What have I missed? My networking knowledge is pretty basic at best. (I got this far using Arch's wiki, Fedora's documentation and a little trial and error. That seemed to work well but now I've added google and still can't figure it out. All the hits I get concern cases where the LAN connection works but authentication fails over WAN. But I'm not getting that far - it looks like my work box doesn't respond at all...)

    So I discovered I'd also managed to kill off LAN access as well as the machine's ability to use any sort of DNS... (I did say it needed to be secure...)
    Anyway, I fixed that, reestablished working ssh from LAN but still can't get it to work from WAN.
    Question: if ShieldsUp! reports the port as stealthed does that mean that the port has not actually been opened? So the campus firewall is blocking the connection? Because if so, I'm knocking my head against a brick (fire)wall to no purpose whatsoever...
    I figure it can't be the software firewall else I'd not be able to connect on the LAN. And it is a public ip address so there's no NAT translation required...

  • Need help with applescript and Xcode 4.3.2

    I'm trying to write my first application that will involve a GUI. I can code applescript using script editor with a bit of effort, but I'm want to have users input more than one piece of information in the pop up. So, I download xcode, create my first applescript cocoa project go to MainMenu.xib and add a bunch of labels, text fields and buttons. Looks fairly nice... Go to start it and... nothing (well the window pops up, but it doesn't do anything). Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to link the window to the applescript... So, how do I...
    * Have the applescript prepopulate data in the text fields and pulldowns
    * Once the user changes the data in the fields tell the applescript
    * Tell the window to close and pass the control back to the applescript once either the cancel or submit button is pressed.
    More detailed...
    * What's an outlet and how do I use it here? Which of the 18 outlet(s) do i use for this?
    * What's a property (referenced on one of the web pages I saw around applescript and cocoa) and do I need them here?
    Looking at the documentation with xcode, there isn't a lot about xcode and applescipt. Looking at the web, the top links are a few years old. So, links to good relevent documentation would be very nice as well as direct answers to the questions
    Thanks,
    Scott

    I'm not sure why you are closing it, but the NSApplication class is what keeps track of the windows.  If you don't want to connect the window to an outlet from the interface editor, you can use something like
    set theWindow to current application's NSApplication's sharedApplication's mainWindow()
    ...and from there you can use whatever NSWindow methods, for example
    theWindow's performClose_(me)

This is a new issue that only started once I upgraded to Firefox 4.0. I previously had no issues using this website with Firefox before. I tried using the website with Explorer and had no issues.

    I have iPhone software 2.2.1 (SH11),
    MAC 0S X 10.5.5
    XCode 3.1.2
    In organiser it says The Developer Disk Image could not be mounted.
    Xcode could not find an appropriate Developer Disk Image to mount on Richard’s iPhone. Please contact Apple for the 2.2.1 (5H11) device support package.
    Also in Xcode it says that the active sdk is Device - 2.2. There is no version 2.2.1 for me to select and I cannot add a new active SDK.
    I have downloaded the iphonesdk_for_iphone_os2.2.19m2621afinal.dmg and tried installing it which had no effect to the error above.
    I tried uninstalling Xcode then re-installing using this sdk but again no effect
    I tried installing the iPhoneSDK_2.2 on its own but again no effect
    I tried restoring the iPhone but again no effect
    I've tried the above numerous times, restarting xcode and restating the complete system but still to no effect.
    I am relatively new to MACs so I might be doing something wrong (ie not installing or uninstalling properly) but I am really lost now as to what to do.
    Please advise.

  • Visarc generates dirty project using SVN source control

    Hi,
    I've read in different topics some issues related to the visarc file, but unfortunately, none of them helped me out. I was wondering if any of you came across this issue and found a solution or workaround to it.
    The problem relates to a LabVIEW project which opens dirty, as you commonly say, under some circunstances. Below I will explain some of the problems I encountered as I tried to track this problem down.
    1. I'm running a large LabVIEW Run-Time project using a PXI with several FPGA - cRIO.
    2. I found that when opening the project file, this is perfectly clean and no asterisk shows in the title bar. I close the project and no saving is needed.
    3. I open the project again and I open a sub-VI which contains the following code:
    4. Straight away, the file visarc shows up under the Dependencies tree of the Real-Time PXI and the asterisk shows now on the title bar of the project (not the VI).
    5. The VI closes without needed to be saved but the project says that an item was added, removed and added, and it has to be saved (as soon as I close the subVI above, the visarc file dissapears from the Dependencies section).
    6. What I do next is to add this file visarc (located in Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2012\resource) to the project under the PXI tree. I then save the project and close it.
    7. I open the project again, and it keeps being clean (not dirty, as you say).
    8. I open the same sub-vi than before and everything keeps being clean and no saving is needed neither on the sub-VI nor the project. Everything goes smooth in my local computer from now on.
    However, the issue that I can not resolve follows:
    9. We are two people working on this project, and we're using SVN as source version control. Everything works fine in my computer, but when my partner update the files on his computer, the project opens dirty as soon as it opens (only the project, the sub-VI is no needed to be saved).
    10. My partner just save the project and close it, and it becomes clean straight away in his computer. The files which are saved are the aliases file (I expected that), the labview project file, and the LVLPS File of the project.
    This issue will happen again as soon as any of us downloads the SW committed by the other.
    I hope any of you can help me out with this issue. Any suggestion or idea are welcome.
    Thank you very much in advanced.
    Best regards,

    As far as I know, the resource manager does not support version control. If you map the version control folder to a local folder, you can use that in RoboHelp. But I'm afraid that any changes in the resource manager files will require you to manually check them out first. This is how I'm doing it anyway.
    Kind regards,

  • [solved]make error when using svn in PKGBUILD

    Hi, all
    I want to install the development package of R software using PKGBUILD. My PKGBUILD file is like this:
    pkgname=r
    _svnmod=r
    pkgver=0.0.0
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="R is a language and environment for statistical computing and graphics"
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    license=('GPL')
    url=('http://www.r-project.org/')
    depends=('blas' 'lapack' 'bzip2' 'libpng' 'libjpeg' 'libtiff'
    'ncurses' 'pcre' 'readline' 'zlib' 'perl' 'gcc-libs'
    'tk' 'libxt' 'libxmu' 'pango')
    #makedepends=('subversion' 'openjdk6' 'gcc-fortran')
    makedepends=('subversion' 'jre7-openjdk')
    options=('!makeflags')
    conflicts=('r')
    provides=('r')
    source=('r::svn+https://svn.r-project.org/R/trunk/')
    md5sums=('SKIP')
    pkgver() {
    cd "$SRCDEST/$_svnmod"
    svnversion
    build() {
    cd "$srcdir/$_svnmod"
    ./configure --prefix=/usr \
    --libdir=/usr/lib \
    --datarootdir=/usr/share \
    rsharedir=/usr/share/R/ \
    rincludedir=/usr/include/R/ \
    rdocdir=/usr/share/R/docs/ \
    --enable-memory-profiling \
    --with-readline \
    --with-x \
    --with-system-zlib \
    --with-system-bzlib \
    --with-system-pcre \
    --enable-R-shlib \
    --with-lapack \
    --with-blas \
    --without-recommended-packages \
    F77=gfortran \
    LIBnn=lib
    make
    package() {
    cd "$srcdir/$_svnmod"
    make -j1 DESTDIR=${pkgdir} install
    # Fixup R wrapper scripts.
    sed -i "s|${pkgdir} ||" ${pkgdir}/usr/bin/R
    rm ${pkgdir}/usr/lib/R/bin/R
    cd ${pkgdir}/usr/lib/R/bin
    ln -s ../../../bin/R
    But i encounter a make error like this:
    ERROR: not an svn checkout
    make: *** [svnonly] ERROR 1
    Did anyone give me some advices? Thanks a lot!
    PS. I was noticed that in wiki page "VCS PKGBUILD Guidelines", "The copy in $srcdir is made using svn export which does not create working copies. Any svn related command has to be used in the local repo in $SRCDEST." So when I change the cd line in build() and package() function into
    cd "$SRCDEST/$_svnmod"
    the error message vanished. But the local repo are changed when configure and make the project.

    Scimmia wrote:This will be fixed in pacman 4.1.1. For now, just copy the ".svn" dir yourself. cp -r "$SRCDEST/$_svnmod/.svn" "$srcdir/$_svnmod"
    Great, it works. Thanks.

  • How to use (to program) a Scheme in Xcode? (novice programer needs help!)

    How to use (to program) a Scheme in Xcode?
    i have been using Aquaemacs (GNU emacs) with Guile extensions. but i really would like to do all that in Xcode. is it possible? thanks.

    I believe that Scheme is not a language natively supported by Xcode. Maybe there is a way to write a plugin for it, but I don't really think so and in particular I haven't seen one for LISP or Scheme.

  • Using SVN under OS X.5 Leopard Server

    Hi there!
    We run a Mac Pro with OS X Server Leopard 10.5.1 for collaboration services.
    We also need to use SVN for other matters. As this service is not directly accessible from Server Admin, but is always running because it's used as a backend for Wikis and blogs, *is there any way to use it in parallel for other purposes as well*?
    Thanks in advance!

    I also also could not get davsvnmodule to load. This is a fresh install of Leopard Server, and the first thing I did with the web settings was to check the box for davsvnmodule, and I get the following error in the log file:
    httpd: Syntax error on line 154 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache2/moddavsvn.so into server: dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/moddavsvn.so, 10): Symbol not found: dav_do_findliveprop\n Referenced from: /usr/libexec/apache2/moddavsvn.so\n Expected in: dynamic lookup\n
