Using thin driver
Hi,
I am trying to use thin driver to connect with the oracle. But at run time its giving an exception
"java.sql.SQLException: Io Exception: The network adapter could not establish the connection"
the code is as following:
Class.fornName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver")
con=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@10.193.122.31:1526:orcl,"scott","tiger");
plz help me out.
its urgent
Thanks in advance
In what way does this differ from your other thread?

Signal 11 using thin driver with J2ME
I'm trying to use JDBC in a client application on a linux appliance using J2ME (CDC, Foundation Profile with optional JDBC package), but when it tries to load the Oracle driver (oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource) there is a memory fault. I know it's not a memory allocation or memory size problem, because on my desktop it only allocates 300 K, and I have more than 10 Mb free RAM in the appliance, and I changed all possible memory parameters in the JVM initialization.
At the end of the day, all I need is to connect to an Oracle 8.1.7 database from embedded Linux. Is it possible to use oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver , the driver for Oracle Lite, instead of the driver in classes12.zip? Will the client work correctly?
If you have some contact with Oracle and interest in J2ME, I would like to encourage you to visit
http://jcp.org/aboutJava/communityprocess/final/jsr169/
and ask your Oracle representative about its support for J2ME and JDBC.

gustavo.frederico at allstream dot comWish to know whether there is a common way to connect to Oracle 11g server using SID or service name.
Earlier I used jdbc:oracle:thin:@<<server>:<<port>>:<<SID>> for connecting to individual Oracle server instances.
Now I need to connect to Oracle RAC which provides service names. So I need to use jdbc:oracle:thin:@<<server>:<<port>>/<<service name>>.
This connection string is internally constructed by a program and user inputs <<server>>, <<port>> and <<SID>> or <<Service Name>>. Now this requires two different connection strings based on the input whether its SID or service name.
Is there a common connection string for these two? Based on some articles like this, I understood that we can generically use jdbc:oracle:thin:@<<server>:<<port>>/<<service>>, whether for SID and service.
When I tried this format with SID, I am getting the below error. What I tried is jdbc:oracle:thin:@myoracleserver:1521/ORCL, where ORCL is the SID
java.sql.SQLException: Listener refused the connection with the following error:

Error in creating Connection Pool using Oracle Thin Driver
Hi,
I am trying to create a connection pool in WS 5.1 with sp #6 using Oracle Thin Driver (oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver) on a Sun box. But I am able to create the pool using weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver. Did you setup the JDBC library classpath correctly?
For me, e.g. Oracle 7.3.4, the classpath should be:
export CLASSPATH = /oracle7.3.4/jdbc/lib/classes.zip:%CLASSPATH%
Noted that the JDBC classpath must be the first classpath element in
the export
statement.

BLOB insert behavior with thin driver using standard JDBC2.0 and ORACLE-JDBC2.0API
We have a problem with a BLOB insert to an oracle 8.1.7 DB using Oracle 8.1.7 JDBC thin driver.We get socket read/write error after inserting 32k of data using the standard JDBC2.0 API but using the Oracle JDBC2.0API (using OracleResultSet) it goes fine. We have a requirement to use the standard JDBC2.0 so that our code works with multiple database vendors. Is there another way to get in the blob data with standard JDBC API & using thin driver...?

nullThanks for the response.
I understand what you are saying...
that readers don't block writers in Oracle (the same is true in SQL Server 2000).
However, I don't see how my test case is working correctly with Oracle (the exact same code acting as I'm thinking it should with SQL Server, but I still think it is acting incorrectly with Oracle).
I have transaction A do this:
update <table> set <column2>=<value> where <column1>='1'
then I use Thread.sleep() to make that program hang around for a few minutes.
Meanwhile I sneak off and start another program which begins transaction B. I have transaction B do this:
select * from <table> where <column1>='1'
and the read works immediately (no blocking... just as you have said) however, transaction A is still sleeping, it has not called commit() or rollback() yet.
So what if transaction A were to call rollback(), the value read by transaction B would be incorrect wouldn't it ?
Both A and B use setAutoCommit(false) to start their transactions, and then call setTransactionIsolation(Connection.TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED).
Isn't that supposed to guarantee that a reader can only read what is committed ?
And if a row is in "flux"... in the process of having one or more values changed, then the database cannot say what the value will be ?
I can almost see what you are saying.
In letting the reader have what it wants without making it wait, I suppose it could be said that Oracle is holding true to the "only let committed data be read"
So if that's it, then what if I want the blocking ?
I want an entire row to be locked until whoever it in the middle of updating, adding, or removing it has finished.
Do you know if that can be done with Oracle ? And how ?
Thanks again for helping me. -
Issue encountered when Login as sysdba role using Thin Oracle JDBC Driver
Hello all,
we are now considering to use Thin oracle JDBC driver to create database in our project, but we met one issue when we tried to connect to oracle as sysdba role using Thin driver, and it throws java.sql.SQLException: Io Exception: SO Exception was generated, I have found some tips on oracle jdbc website and it says :
How do I connect as SYSDBA or SYSOPER?
The only way to do this is to use the Properties object when connecting, rather than specifying the username and password as strings. Put the username into the "user" property, and the password into the "password" property. Then, put the mode into the "internal_logon" property. Something like the following:
Properties props = new Properties();
props.put("user", "scott");
props.put("password", "tiger");
props.put("internal_logon", "sysoper");
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection (url, props);
When connecting as SYSDBA or SYSOPER using the Thin driver, the RDBMS must be configured to use a password file. See "Creating and Maintaining a Password File" in the "Oracle Database Administrator's Guide".
So, i did execute orapwd command to create a password file and also set remote_login_passwordfile=execlusive in my initxxx.ora initial parameter file, however, when i tried to connect, it failed.
private static void createEmsdbDatabase(){
String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:";
StringBuffer sqlStatement = new StringBuffer();
sqlStatement.append("create database xxx");
sqlStatement.append("maxdatafiles 254 ");
sqlStatement.append("maxinstances 8 ");
sqlStatement.append("maxlogfiles 32 ");
sqlStatement.append("character set UTF8 ");
sqlStatement.append("national character set UTF8 ");
sqlStatement.append("DATAFILE 'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\system01.dbf' SIZE 18M REUSE ");
sqlStatement.append("logfile 'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo01.log' SIZE 2M REUSE, ");
sqlStatement.append("'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo02.log' SIZE 2M REUSE, ");
sqlStatement.append("'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo03.log' SIZE 2M REUSE ");
try {
DriverManager.registerDriver(new OracleDriver());
Properties props = new Properties();
props.put("user", "sys");
props.put("password", "password");
props.put("database","xxx");
props.put("internal_logon", "sysdba");
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, props);
Statement statement = conn.createStatement();
statement.executeUpdate(sqlStatement.toString());
statement.close();
conn.close();
} catch (SQLException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
But what made me puzzled a lot is if i use OCI driver, it did work great, why??? guys, anybody knows, please give me some tips, thanks in advance.
regards,
Kaixuan @ Shanghaiclarify my question in detail:
Step 1 : create password file using orapwd command
Step 2 : create database instance using oradim command
Step 3 : login using sys as sysdba to startup database, e.g startup nomount pfile='...\initxxx.ora'
Step 4 : create database.
java code showing below:
private static void createEmsdbDatabase(){
String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:";
StringBuffer sqlStatement = new StringBuffer();
sqlStatement.append("create database xxx ");
sqlStatement.append("maxdatafiles 254 ");
sqlStatement.append("maxinstances 8 ");
sqlStatement.append("maxlogfiles 32 ");
sqlStatement.append("character set UTF8 ");
sqlStatement.append("national character set UTF8 ");
sqlStatement.append("DATAFILE 'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\system01.dbf' SIZE 18M REUSE ");
sqlStatement.append("logfile 'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo01.log' SIZE 2M REUSE, ");
sqlStatement.append("'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo02.log' SIZE 2M REUSE, ");
sqlStatement.append("'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo03.log' SIZE 2M REUSE ");
try {
DriverManager.registerDriver(new OracleDriver());
Properties props = new Properties();
props.put("user", "sys");
props.put("password", "password");
props.put("database","xxx");
props.put("internal_logon", "sysdba");
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, props);
Statement statement = conn.createStatement();
statement.executeUpdate(sqlStatement.toString());
statement.close();
conn.close();
} catch (SQLException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
issue was met here, when i tried to login as sysdba using sys, and in my java code, i use Thin driver, it then thrus exception, but when OCI driver is used, it works great, i don't know why.
that is, when i use "jdbc:oracle:oci8:@" as database URL and then properties.put("database","xxx"), it works great. but, when i use "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:" as database URL and then properties.put("database","xxx"), it failed. hopefully, i have clarified my question clearly. thanks. -
Using oracle thin driver from Weblogic server 6.1
Hi
I need to know which driver is best for establishing JDBC Connection i.e.
whether to use JDriver provided with Weblogic or to go using Oracle thin driver.
Can some one tell the detailed procedure involved in configuring oracle thin driver
in Weblogicserver 6.1.
Thanks in advance,
S GopikrishnaI would recommend using the thin driver where ever possible, their are
certain problems with thin driver which are more in the area of XA support
you can check weblogic documentation for pointers on this. Oracles latest
thin driver is pretty stable as they have fixed a bunch of problems.
heres how to use thin driver:
create the connection pool using the following url
jdbc:oracle:thin:@<mc-name or ip-address>:<port-no>:<oracle sid>
and driver: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
You dont have to install the thin driver its bundled with the product.

Retrieving XMLType using JDBC(THIN DRIVER)
Oracle Database: 10g R2
Java version: 1.4+
Hi All,
I have a column of type XMLType in a database table . I have to retrieve it using Oracle XDK APIs as an instance of oracle.xdb.XMLType. How to go about this using thin driver?
ThanksHello,
Download the oracle xdk for your platform and copy the jars xdb.jar and xmlparserv2.jar from it to your classpath. Then download the latest ojdbc14.jar driver and add it to your classpath.
Then use the following example code snippet to extract the xml from the xml-column in the resultset:
import javax.xml.transform.OutputKeys;
import javax.xml.transform.Transformer;
import javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory;
import javax.xml.transform.dom.DOMSource;
import javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamResult;
import oracle.xdb.XMLType;
import org.w3c.dom.Document;
Object object = resultSet.getObject("xmlcolumnname");
if (object instanceof XMLType) {
Document document = ((XMLType)object).getDOM();
Transformer transformer = TransformerFactory.newInstance().newTransformer();
transformer.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.OMIT_XML_DECLARATION,"yes");
transformer.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.INDENT,"no");
transformer.transform(new DOMSource(document),new StreamResult(System.out));
} else {
In your query that produces the resultset, it's important to add the procedure ".createNonSchemaBasedXML()" to your xml-value so there is no schema attached to it.
For example: select myxmlcolumn.createNonSchemaBasedXML() as myxml from mytable;
or select extract(myxmlcolumn,'//somexpath').createNonSchemaBasedXML() as myxml from mytable;

Proxy authetication using 10g thin driver
Hello,
I am using 10g, and bea 81 sp3, I am trying to setup proxy authetication. All the references I find for proxy authetication are using OCI driver. Is proxy authetication supported using oracle 10g thin driver (ojdbc14.jar)? Can anyone provide me an example using thin driver?
appreciate any help,
ShaileshThanks annie..I googled it but didn't find this one..:-(
I actaully wanted to implement proxy authetication using thin driver (no oci) but i can't figure out ...and all examples i saw were using thin driver..I found many articles which says that thin driver does support proxy authetication and I am using all latest (10g)..so..:-(

When I am using thin driver, I am successful in connecting to the database
oracle.url=jdbc:oracle:thin:@(description=(address=(host=url.name.com)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(sid=user)))
I am using JBOSS 1.6 with oracle 11.1.0 and jdk 1.6
Please help me resolve the problem
Thanks,
KumarYou should confirm that you can connect to the DB with a simple Java class using the url that the code you posted is using.
This will show that the OCI client is installed and executing properly. If you can't connect externally you will need to fix that first.
Is the Oracle client installed on the same machine the JDBC code is running on? -
Hi,
I'm using the build-in Oracle 8.1.6 thin driver that comes with
weblogic.jar of WebLogic 6.0 SP2. It doesn't store CLOBs. Here I have
to use the class weblogic.jdbc.common.OracleClob. Why?
WebLogic 5.1 SP 9 + Oracle 8.1.6 thin driver (external) does. Here I
use the class oracle.sql.CLOB.
Must I use a OCI driver?
Thanks,
JuergenI'd also recommend to switch to 8.1.7 thin driver. It's more stable.

You can use thin driver to persist CLOB. One thing you must be sure to setautocommit
to false. Hope this help.
