  • Using photos from iphoto in adobe photoshop elements

I'm new to the mac world. I do a lot of casual digital photography. I like to edit pictures and create things in photoshop elements.
I'm trying to make sure I'm opening photos from the correct folder in the iphoto library.
I think either using photos in the modified or original photos is the proper way? Any input.
Also, can I create new folders within the iphoto library (finder side) to better organize my photos? I had pictures broken down by month on my pc and iphoto seems to only group by year. It makes locating the proper picture in photoshop elements easier if the pictures are broken down by month.
I know I can use folders and albums within iphoto, but those catagories don't show up when trying to open photos in elements.
    Thanks for your input!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There ias a caveat to using PSE with iPhoto. It is: if you create a layered file or do edits that causes PSE to want to save as a .psd file you must either flatten the file and force PSE to save as a jpg or do a Save As to the Desktop and import the new file. Subsequent edits to that new psd file from within iPhoto like Terence pointed out can proceed normally.
Using 2 Image Editors in iPhoto
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and a 3rd party editor without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected the 3rd party editor as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". Then when you Control-click on an image, you can select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu to edit in your selected editor.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Pair a wireless KB with the laptop and all should be well when you attach the laptop to the iMac and invoke TDM. But as Denny mentions, it does seem like the waste of a good iMac to use it in just this configuration. Why is the laptop primary?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Using Photos in iPhoto

    Hi -
When I use photos in iPhoto (meaning I post them to a blog, develop them, send them, etc) - I currently drag them from iPhoto to the desktop, where I can then find them (when I click "load file," etc). Am I doing this in the designed way? How else do I upload a photo from within iPhoto? I am new to using a Mac, so I am used to navigating to folders to upload something. I feel I have created a work around, rather than actually found the way iPhoto is designed to work.
    Thanks for your help!

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • How to use simpleviewer in iphoto

Hi, first of all happy new year:)
My question is: I would like to use simpleviewer with iphoto(on leopard). The construction says the following:
    http://www.hagus.net/iPhotoExport
Unfortunately when I go to Library/Application support/iphoto I only have the folder themes and not Plugin directory. Is something wrong?
Thanks for your help in advance!

    Hi Bernd,
    Here's the right way:
Uncompress the file and get the "simpleFileExporter.iPhotoExporter".
2.Go to your application folder, hit ctrl and click on iPhoto
    3.Select Show Package Contents
    4.Search the Plugins Folder
5.Drop the "simpleFileExporter.iPhotoExporter" into the Plugins folder
Note: if Safari auto-uncompresses this file, it takes you straight to the "Contents" folder. Go to your downloads folder and get the "simpleFileExporter.iPhotoExporter" package instead
6.Restart iPhoto. You will now have a new option available to export your photos when going to File menu and Export.
For anybody else wondering about SimpleViewer and wanting to know what SimpleViewer is please have a look at point 3) of the following page

where I described step by step how it works.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Using Gmail in iPhoto and cannot find any of my groups to email.  I have at least seven or eight groups that I email, each containing over 50 addresses. Is there a way to locate my email groups using iPhoto to send out mail in Gmail? Using version 9.5.1

Using Gmail in iPhoto and cannot find any of my groups to email.  I have at least seven or eight groups that I email, each containing over 50 addresses. Is there a way to locate my email groups using iPhoto to send out mail in Gmail? Using version 9.5.1  (902.17) OS is Mavericks 10.9.1.

Your question and description is not very clear to me, so hopefully something here will help:
    1. Gmail is a service not an app or a place. So you need to access the service with an app - that can be iPhoto, Mail, Outlook or any other mail client, or even a Web Browser like Safari or Firefox.
So you can't "go to GMail" as you write, but instead you go to an application set up to use the GMail service.
    2. iPhoto is not a mail client. It's a handy way to email pics to Grandma, but for what you're doing you need to use an app that supports all of the Gmail service. iPhoto doesn't. There is no way around that.
    3. How to send to groups will vary depending on what app you use to access the GMail service. All of these apps can receive photos from iPhoto, either - as in the case of Mail and Outlook, via the Share function - or, in the case of all the rest - via a Media Browser.
For help sending to Groups using any of these other apps you need to ask omn their respective forums. But the workflow is quite simple:
Using Mail or Outlook set in the iPhoto Prefereneces:
    1. Select the pic(s) you want to share.
    2. Choose email from the Share function
    3. Make your selections re size etc
    4. The email opens up in Mail or Outlook
    - from there you need to figure out how to use the email client.
    Using any other app:
    1. In the mail app create a new email
    2. Click on the Attach button or link
    3. Use the Media browser to select the pic(s) you want to send
    4. Attach them
    - from there you need to figure out how to use the email client.

  • Photos into iMovie without using Aperture or iPhoto?

Is there a way of accessing photos to bring into iMovie 08 without having to use Aperture or iPhoto? I use Lightroom (although I have both iPhoto and Aperture) and would rather not create new catalogs of my images.

Is there any way of listing the external drive where the images are located in the "photo" list along with Aperture and iPhoto?
Yes. To add your "Sample Folder" containing photos, just drag it into the "Folders" item of iMovie's photo list. Now you can access its contents like you can the iPhoto list.

I have an iMac 24" system. I just recently installed MAC OS X 10.7.4 (Lion) on my system. Since doing so, my system consistently hangs. Particularly when using iMovie and iPhoto. I have to power off my system to get it running again. Any suggestions on what I can do  to address this situation.

I would first reset the SMC:
Shut down and unplug the Mac.
Keep the Mac unplugged for at least fifteen seconds.
Plug the Mac back in and do not turn it back on for at least five seconds.
Press the power button to turn the Mac back on.
Then I would reset the PRAM by rebooting the iMac while simultaneously holding the Command-Option-P-R keys until the machine restarts a second time.
Let us know if these  procedures don't solve the problems.
    Hope this helps

  • Error message while using iTunes and iPhoto

I received an error message saying,no more space available, after exporting pictures from iPad iPhoto to iTunes while my iPad was connected to my PC.  I had exported several albums from iPhoto without a problem then I received the error message. Can someone help me find a way to export pictures from iPad to the PC using the iTunes iPhoto app sharing feature?

The information you are giving me is helping but unfortunately I am not syncing anything to my iPad I am just trying to remove/export photos from my iPad TO my windows PC so I can then store those pictures on a USB.
This I understood, but I was concerned, that iTunes may be set to automatically sync to your iPad - iTunes might start automatically to upload media to the iPad, once your iPad is connected to USB, even if you are only trying to import photos from the iPad. Do you have any syncing options enabled? Check the other tabs in the sync panel for your devive, not only the Apps section in the General panel.

  • In using Photos and iPhoto on iPad 3 - does not sort Albums in either program!  How do I sort?

How do I sort Albums using Photos or iPhoto for iPad 3?
    Thanks!

Spare yourself the frustration of sorting photos with the Photo App.
Use a 3rd party apps like Photo Manager Pro. You'll be able to drag the photos to any position you want.

  • Using Lightroom and iPhoto

I use Lightroom and iPhoto. I mainly use Lightroom for everything. If it's personal photos I use iPhoto but mostly Lightroom. If I want to share these and/or sync with other devices like AppleTV, iPhone, MobileMe then I have to export from Lightroom to iPhoto. That doubles up on files and hard drive space. What do others do that use Lightroom and iPhoto? I love being able to share and sync with iPhoto but it's just to much to ask of my Hard Drives.

Few people use both Lightroom and iPhoto - they both do essentially the same thing but are different and in the past iPhoto has found LR processed photos unacceptable - and they can not operate on the same physical photos - you must export photos form LR and import them into iPhoto since they both manage photos
If you want to use both you will have to have photos imported into each
Fortunately external hard drives are cheap -- iPhoto is perfectly happy having its library on an EHD
