Using unix in java

Im trying to use this within a java app however I get the following error
String cmdCreate[] = {"cd", "test"};
Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmdCreate);
java.io.IOException: cd not found
     at java.lang.UNIXProcess.create(UNIXProcess.java)
     at java.lang.Runtime.execInternal(Native Method)
     at java.lang.Runtime.exec(Unknown Source)
     at java.lang.Runtime.exec(Unknown Source)
     at java.lang.Runtime.exec(Unknown Source)
     at a5.Test3.main(Test3.java:19)
How can I fix this

The Runtime.exec methods create a native process and return an instance of a subclass of Process that can be used to control the process and obtain information about it. The class Process provides methods for performing input from the process, performing output to the process, waiting for the process to complete, checking the exit status of the process, and destroying (killing) the process.
The Runtime.exec methods may not work well for special processes on certain native platforms, such as native windowing processes, daemon processes, Win16/DOS processes on Win32, or shell scripts. The created subprocess does not have its own terminal or console. All its standard io (i.e. stdin, stdout, stderr) operations will be redirected to the parent process through three streams (Process.getOutputStream(), Process.getInputStream(), Process.getErrorStream()). The parent process uses these streams to feed input to and get output from the subprocess. Because some native platforms only provide limited buffer size for standard input and output streams, failure to promptly write the input stream or read the output stream of the subprocess may cause the subprocess to block, and even deadlock. ..... etc....

    I have not a clue about FoxPro, but the db then is FoxPro and not Unix. The better question would be "How do I connect to FoxPro DB running on Unix with JDBC?".
    My answer to that would be, search the Internet for a JDBC driver.

  • Executing *.java using unix process

    Hi,
    I have a problem with executing *.java command using unixprocess in java class. My java code snippet contain like...
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);
    where command= "/data1/oracle/product/10.1.3.1/OracleSOA/jdk/bin/javac -d /tmp/classes/createLOV/build /tmp/classes/createLOV/src/com/lovalias/packagename/pas/uws/master/interfaces/*.java"
    if we run that java file on unix OS..
    it gives error like
    error: cannot read: /tmp/classes/createLOV/src/com/lovalias/packagename/pas/uws/master/interfaces/*.java1 error
    if replace * with actual file name like ABC.java it is executing success fully..i think it is treating * as file name
    but i want execute list of sourcefiles from that directory..
    any body please give the solution...
    thanks in advance...

    Sounds like you either have a corrupt class file or you're using an older version of the JVM to try to execute classe that were compiled for a newer version.

  • Unix and Java

    Hey guys, im taking a computer programing class this semester and i was wondering if anyone has tried running Unix and Java OS on their macs? Im going to be writing my own programs for the class, such as creating a ball in a window and making it bounce etc. So far i been using my school computers and i was wondering how macs are?

    You can't run OS X without running Unix Strictly speaking, 10.4 (Tiger) isn't a certified Unix, so you may find a couple of non-standard things, but 10.5 (Leopard) will be certified.
    There are a ton of Java developers who work on Macs, so it's as good a platform as any for Java development. Apple are always a bit behind the official JDK releases because they produce their own rather than using Sun's, though. As for development tools, Apple's Xcode, Sun's Netbeans and IBM's Eclipse all work just fine on Macs-- although to be honest you shouldn't need much more than a decent text editor if you're just taking an elementary programming class.

  • PrintWriter has started to use unix style linebreaks.

    Hello,
    I was running some text files generated under linux through a my Java program under Windows XP. Ever since then any program I write or run in Windows that uses PrintWriter will print to a file using unix style line breaks, ie. if I look at it in notepad everything appears on one line with little squares instead of line breaks. Does anyone know why Java won't use the dos line breaks anymore ?
    I remember seeing someone else who had this problem but I never found out if and how they fixed it !

    All I'm doing is putting a string into PrintWriter.println():
    String fred = "Hello !";
    String jim = "Wheee !";
    PrintWriter out = null;
    try
    out = new PrintWriter(new FileOutputStream("Stuff.txt"));
    catch (Exception x)
    System.out.println("Could not open the file Stuff.txt.");
    return;
    out.println(fred);
    out.println(jim);The file then contains
    HelloWhee !
    with a unix line break between the Hello and Whee !
    This was not happening untill I ran a file with all unix line breaks through the program. The code did not change. Recompiling made no difference. Now ALL programs that us PrintWriter are doing this.

  • Using Unix commands

    Im creating a webserver in java and I want to use UNIX commands to access another directory and run a CGI script. Im trying to cd into the cgi-bin directory and run the script using the Process and Runtime classes but it doesn't seem to change to the cgi-bin directory. Is there another way I'm supposed to do this in java?

    I doubt that you will be able to get execute permissions set on normal files by setting the umask. You may have to use Runtime.exec() to invoke chmod, or call chmod via JNI if it is something you do often.

    Take a look at the [url http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/security/jgss/tutorials/LoginSample.html]JAAS. That said, this if this is for a large project, you're definitely better off maintaining the users in an LDAP server than trying to manage them in the /etc/passwd file!

    Neeraj -
    The Portal framework code (including PortalAppflowHelper) uses ejb
    references to find the PortalManager (and other EJBs) from servlets and
    taglibs; that is what is signified by the java:comp/env/... name.
    Since you built your webapp from scratch (instead of using the portal
    wizard), you will need to make sure the you have the appropriate
    <ejb-ref> entries in your web.xml, and the corresponding
    <ejb-reference-description> entries in your weblogic.xml. By default,
    you will need at least mappings for:
    - ejb/PortalManager
    - ejb/UserManager
    - ejb/GroupManager
    - ejb/PipelineExecutor
    - ejb/EventService
    See either the resulting webapp from using the portal wizard or
    BEA_HOME/weblogic700/samples/portal/sampleportalDomain/beaApps/sampleportal/sampleportal/WEB-INF
    for example syntax.

  • How to set a variable in portal session using web dynpro java.

    Hi,
    I have created a web dynpro application, which is running inside portal. I have created a role called "R1". Inside role R1, i have created 3 workset W1, W2 and W3. and inside each workset i have some pages and iviews.
    My requirement is when user logins to the portal , and when he clicks on role R1 for the first time, a login page should come (so that we can do revalidation), and when he enters his password again in that login page , then only workset W1, W2 and W3 should be visible/accessible to him and after successful revalidation, if he clicks again on role R1, in that particular portal session, than that login page should not come.
    for this, i thought i will set a variable in portal session, whenever user successfully revalidated himself, and if after successful revalidation he clicks again on role R1, i will check in doinit method of webdynpro whether variable is set or not (which i already set on successful revalidation), and if it is set then i will do Donavigation else i will present login page to the user.
    Can anyone tells me how to set a variable in portal session using web dynpro java.
    thanks
