Using usb-1208fs to control a hydraulic directional valve

Hi,
I am a PhD student, beginner in Labview. I am working on a project require controlling a hydraulic directional valve by using a USB-1208FS DAQ. I have an ultrasonic proximity sensor to sense the height differences of plants. The sensor output signal is analog voltage 0-10V, I managed to acquire signal from the sensor using the DAQ. I need to set different values of plants height depending on the sensor signal to actuate the hydraulic valve. The valve will control a hydraulic cylinder to move it up and down depending on the plants heights. I worked through a VI, but I don’t know how to generate two signals of 0-5V to operate the valve. For example, the range of plants height (0-6 inches) will switch ON one side of the valve to lower the cylinder down. The range of heights of (0-12 inches) will switch ON the other side of the valve to raise the cylinder up. Can anyone help me figure out how to do that. Thanks for your help!

Hello Mazin,
The ULx driver comes with an analog output function. You can specify the channels the same way you specified the channels for the anolog input just in this case. The resource for this device is made with.NET so I am not sure how the resource is named but once you find out that convention you specify a group of lines by separating them by a colon (ex. AnalogInput ai0:1).

  • How to use labjack U12 to control solenoid directional valve with Labview in hydraulic system

    Hi,
I need to control a solenoid operated direactional valve in hydraulic system with Labjack U12. I am using three relays but need some help on the vi. like which instrument drive I need to use etc....
The coil voltage for the solenoid valve is :  AC120V, 60Hz; AC110V, 50Hz
My goal is to control this solenoid valve open/close at certin time, am using Labview 2011. Any advise would be helpful.
    Thank you!

Have you got the relays working yet.  Do some initial testing with LJlogger to make sure hardware is controlling the relays as expected.  If you need further help with this step, provide a link to electrical details for the relays and describe how you have the relays connected to the U12.
As for your programming in LabVIEW, I suspect you are using digital I/O, so the simplest thing to do is call EDigitalOut() to set a particular line to output-high or output-low, or if you need to set a line to input (for open-collector style control) use a call to EDigitalIn().  Perhaps look at "e function example.vi" to get started, and for general information about using the LabJack U12 with LabVIEW see topic #84 from the LabJack forums.

  • Is anyone having issues with their iPhone 5 music controls in a 2012 Hyundai Accent, both on Bluetooth and using a headphone or USB cable?  My music plays but I cannot skip songs without physically using the iPhone 5 controls.  Thanks!

    Hello,
I have an AT&T iPhone 5 purchased from an AT&T store - it is a normal phone, no changes, no jailbreaking.  I tried using my phone and my girlfriend’s iPhone 5 with the USB auxiliary cable in my 2012 Hyundai Accent.  No matter what connector I use (headphone, USB, auxiliary) it doesn't charge or allow me to use the Hyundai’s controls to change music.  Music will play through the Bluetooth system, but I cannot control the music unless I physically touch my iPhone.  My iPhone 4 has a USB auxiliary cable and works perfectly; it charges and I have full control of my music without having to touch my phone. Nothing works even if I use the adapter that connects the iPhone 4 charger end to the iPhone 5. The picture below shows the iPhone 4 USB cable but it needs to have the (blue) iPhone 5 adapter.
Here’s the best part of this whole situation.  I was told by Hyundai Customer Care that there is a specific USB cable available for my iPhone and that I need to contact a dealer.  However, two Hyundai dealerships have told me that they do not have a cable, that Apple has not made a cable for the iPhone 5, and that I need to contact Apple directly or order it from an Apple store.  It gets better.  I contacted an Apple Store and they told me to contact Hyundai.  I explained what I wrote above and they put on a call with Apple Customer Care.  After 37 minutes on the phone with Apple, they still couldn't give me a satisfactory answer on how to get this cable or if they even had a cable (Case ID 505467409).
So here is the magical question:   Is there a working adapter for the iPhone 5 that connect to a 2012 Hyundai Accent? It needs to play music, charge the phone, and work with the car’s controls.  Thanks!

The problem is that you're using an uncertified lightning to 30-pin connector (the blue cable).  If you purchase the 30-pin to lightning cable (either online, at an Apple store or an authorized dealer) it should work fine.
I have a 2011 Tuscon and tried the lightning to USB cable that came with the phone - no dice.  Talked to my local Hyundai dealer and they don't have an eta on the Hyundai lightning cables (I'm sure it's in the works).

  • Does Mackie Control work with Final Cut 7 when using USB MIDI?

I have a Mackie Control Universal Pro connected via USB to my mac and it works GREAT with Logic and all the complimentary Logic Studio software.
The problem I am having is, when I try to use it with Final Cut, it wont work at all. I have read the post concerning this that was answered by Andy Mees but, I dont use a true MIDI connection, only USB.
    Any thoughts?

Does Mackie Control work with Final Cut 7 when using USB MIDI?
No one will know until FCP 7 is released.

  • Switching pneumatic solenoid valves using USB 6008

    Hi,
I am a student working on a project in which I need to built a program to control/switch  pneumatic solenoid valves to oporate on a pneumatic cylinder using the USB 6008 I am very new to LabView and DAQ.
The solenoid has two ports, one for extending the stroke arm of the pneumatic cylinder and the other for collapsing the stroke arm.as the solenoids works off of a 12V supply I have bulilt a darlington pair as a firing circuit for it.
I have had built different programs but I'm only able to  send a signal to extend the stroke arm  and then manually switch the wiring to collaps the stroke arm. So I have problem building a program that sends a signal to my circuit in such a way that ports of the solenoids go ON and OFF after a certain time.
    I really appreciate your help

    Dear Lynn,
    Thanks for the replay.
    I'm gonna try to best describe my system this time;
I'm trying to creat pitch motion  using a pneumatic system including an air compressor, a solenoid valve and a cylinder.
The compressor is made by PowerFist and is capable of storing 5 gallons of air under a rated pressure of 125psi and can deliver 2.5cfm (cubic foot per meter) at 90 psi. The compressed air is sent directly to the solenoid valve. It operates using an electrical motor operating from a standard 110V power outlet. The cylinder has a stoke length of 19.7” and a bore size of 1.6” capable of operating under 130psi.
The solenoid valve used is  5-way 3-position. This means that there are five different ways the air flows inside the solenoid and the solenoid can set in three positions depending on the movement of the mechanical core inside. When air is transferred into the valve the mechanical core moves directing the air to the appropriate ports of the solenoid. The two outputs of the solenoid are sent directly to the pneumatic cylinder where extension and collapsing movements can be performed. the solenoid works off of a 12V supply so I'm using darlington pair transistor as the firing circuit .
Please see the attach for the pneumatic diagram.
    Thank you

  • How to control a hydraulic system by PID

Hello, I am PhD student at the University of Zilina in Slovakia. I am currently working on a project to use PID control toolkit. We are running LabView 5.1 and PID Control Toolkit ver.2.1 under Windows NT4. We have bought a ATMIO16E10 card for the application that requires control of a servo-valve. Components of the hydraulic system are Regulation Axial Hydraulic Pump (generator), Nonregulation Axial Hydraulic Motor and Servo Valve which control movement of pump plate. I have a program which measure output voltage to servovalve, input revolve of hydromotor from tacho, pressure form transducers (pump), torque and revolve (pump) and movement of hydropump plate. My view of program is:
1.The card will acquire data from tacho, p
ressure transducers, torque and revolve transducer, movement of pump plate. The difference between measure and required value of hydromotor revolve will error.
    2. Then the signal will go through a P, I, D process and the variables are changeable.
    3. Then the process signal will output through the card and give voltage (current) to the servo valve to control of hydropump plate for the change of revolve of hydromotor.
At the same time there will be a graph on Monitor with measurement values and control voltage and the process goes until value is stabilized.
I have a very little idea of how to use PID control toolkit. I would be grateful if someone could give me some advice which type of P, I, D controller can I use and how it tuning. Might anyone have a idea of how I can use our measure program?
    Thanks for any replies, peterk

  • Using USB Wall Outlet to Charge iPad

I was wondering if any harm can be cause by using a reputable brand USB wall charger.  In other words, instead of using the 10 watt Apple charging brick with the lightening cable, using the lightening cable and plugging it directly into the USB wall charger (i.e., bypassing the Apple charging brick).  It seems like it may charge faster using the wall outlet directly, but wouldn't want to risk charing the iPad in this manner if potential harm could be cause.

You should have no issue if you stick with reputable company like Skydiver119 mentions. Also, be sure that the aftermarket charger is rated for the same output (look at the watts ratings here) as the Apple charger or higher.
It's also worth noting that using an aftermarket charger of the same wattage output as the Apple charger likely will not charge the device any faster or slower. Certainly not anything you'd notice.
Also, moving to a higher wattage charger (10 watt vs 12 watt) is fine but don't expect any noticeable vast increase in charging speed...I supposed you'd notice if you did a timed test between the two but otherwise, don't expect miracles.

  • I am looking to control a 4-way hydraulic solenoid valve. Do I need a PID control toolset, or can i control the system through my 16E4 daq card and scxi chasis

I am looking to control a 4-way hydraulic solenoid valve. Do I need a PID control toolset, or can i control the system through my 16E4 daq card and scxi chasis

    I think you're asking 2 different questions.
The PID control toolset is for using PID loops for control; it's just software.
The DAQ card and scxi chassis are hardware. If you have the appropriate signal conditioning cards in your chassis to control/monitor your solenoid valve, then you can run a PID loop.
I believe the simple answer is: the PID control toolset is the best way to do control, but there are simple PID VI's (even on this website) that you can download and use for simple control.

I am using iMac OS 10.7.2 with Garageband'11 6.0.4. I can't record sound from  mixer Behringer X1622USB using USB out. when I connect the mixer to iMac via USB  appears USB Audio CODEC on Sound and Preferences but I can't get no sound from mixer to iMac only sound from iMac to mixer. I only can record sound using microphone line in. Please help.

    Eric,
Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

  • How to connect Sony HDR Cx100E on imovie using USB

Hi, I am not able to connect my SONY HDR Cx100E on imovie using USB, at the same time I can connect the same to aperture and iphoto. Can any one help me please?
if you can give me the step by step info will be a great help for me.
    thanks in advance

Can't connect the camera directly to that monitor. It only has the ADC connection. What you'd have to do is capture the footage and use the Digital Cinema Desktop to view the footage.
Can't you monitor what you have on the cameras LCD, or the Capture window?

  • How can i control the DAQ directly from VB

Actually, it is my first trial to use Visual Basic to get signal from DAQ.
And i don't how to interface them. I have read an article to use DataSocket.
However, it demostrated the OPC demo in OPC sever only, and so i didn't know
how to get the signal directly from DAQ card to monitor the real-time
    signal.
Also, i have tried to build a .dll from my VI file which is used to monitor
the DAQ signal. However, the .dll file didn't have any return value or
argument, did it mean i can use this method?
And how can i interface the DAQ using VB?and my ADC model is AT-MIO-16E-2!
    Thank you very much

    Hi Sen,
Are you using Measurement Studio ? If so then you can use the DAQ activeX controls.
If not and you are using VB directly, then NI-Daq installs with examples for visual basic ( if you chose the option while installing- if not do a custom install and choose VB support). If so then you should find them under Program Files ->National Isntruments->NI-DAQ->Examples->VisualBasic. These may help you.
Essentially NI-DAQ ships with a .bas file that contains the "declares" for the NI-DAQ dll functions. These files should be in
Program Files ->National Isntruments->NI-DAQ->Includes (look for the .bas files) You can add these to your project to get access to the DAQ functions..
On the second question, do you mean you are using labVIEW to create your dll ? If this
is the case, then when you create your dll (in labVIEW's applciation builder) you have to set the parameters for the function (VI) and also the VI's return values. This will ensure that you can make use of your VI ..If you don't set a return value you really can't use it...Once you set the return value ,and create a dll, then you can use it like any other dll in Visual basic.
    Hope this helps...

  • Can't print through Time Capsule, but I can using USB to my MacBook

I posted something similar in the Time Capsule forum, but thought I'd try here too. I just got a new Canon MF4690, and I can print to it using USB from my MacBook just fine. Not so when printing wirelessly through Time Capsule. I can see the printer, but the job stops every time. When I set up the printer the driver is "generic" using the Time Capsule connection, but has the specific model number when I add the printer using USB.
I can see the printer in the Printer preference pane, and in Airport Utility, but when I print a job, under "status", it says "stopped". I'm baffled that this is happening! I hope someone can help.

    Joe P. wrote:
Would I connect my Canon to the TC and set up the printer? Do I choose IP, AppleTalk or Other?
If the TC is providing the wireless access and is your only Ethernet hub, then yes you would connect directly to it. If you have another Ethernet hub connected to the TC, then you could connect the Canon to it. Either way, you want to use the Ethernet connection of the Canon and set a valid ip address in it.
With an ip address set, you can then add the printer by using the More Printers > Canon IP (UFR2) menu. This window lets you enter the ip address of the Canon and a queue name of LP. Then when you press okay, the UFR2 software should select the correct driver for your printer.

  • Can Time Capsule be used to access video files for editing?  Or do I need a wired hard drive using USB/Firewire/Thunderbolt?

MORE INFO ABOUT WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO:
I'm using Final Cut Express 4 and would like to store my video clips on an external hard drive so the internal hard drive in my MacBook Pro 13 doesn't have to work so hard.  I heard from a reliable source that it might be impossible to access the files wirelessley though, meaning that I might need to get a wired external hard drive that uses USB, Firewire or Thunderbolt.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks a lot.
    -Rick

The experts in the iPhoto, Aperture and iMovie support areas all strongly advise against trying to locate a "working" library on a network drive, like the Time Capsule, even if the Mac is hard wired to the Time Capsule. Things would be a lot more dangerous with a wireless connection.
    Apple does as well:
“Additionally, storing the iPhoto (or other image) library on a network rather than locally on your computer can also lead to poor performance or data loss.”
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5168
You might want to post in the Final Cut Express support area to see if the folks over there feel the same way.
    Final Cut Express HD
Your best best....if you do not have the space on your Mac's hard drive.....would be to add a USB, FireWire or Thunderbolt drive directly to the Mac to establish a "local" connection. This is much better and more reliable setup that trying to use a network drive, like a Time Capsule.
Use the Time Capsule for its designed and intended purpose....your backups.....not "working" files. Time Machine on your Mac can back up both your Mac and the attached hard drive to the Time Capsule.

I want to make a program for web tension control of roll to roll system in labview using PCI 7354 Motion Control Board. Is there any interface program that can convert my controller output in a format to be directly used as the input of PCI 7354 (Motion Controller Board) for tension control?
    Thank you!

thanks for your reply, i have already make the code of a straight line move and the motor moves successfully, but know i want to put the H-bridge to be able to make a reverse direction for the motor, for your information i only use a PCI-7340 controller and a UMI-7774, where the controller connected to the UMI-7774, the UMI connected to a PWM circuit and the PWM connected to the DC-motor, so what do you think i can do?
