Using Views with Dimensions

OWB Client: 10.2.0.1.31 -- OWB Repository 10.2.0.1.0
I have an unbalanced Product Dimension that is populated by 3 tables as it has 3 levels (All Products, Products, Sub-Products). Departments within our company have different hierarchies and groupings of our products and require different Views from one another in our reporting. I can build 25 different Product Dimensions and the 51 different product tables to support these dimensions but I'd like to stick to just 3. When I try to create Views over the 3 product tables I get: "ORA-01702 a view is not appropriate here".
Oddly enough, you can build a Dimension from Views in AWM.
Anyone have any ideas?

  • Different results using View with union all in 11R1 compared to 10R2

    Hello,
    I have the following situation:
    In Oracle 10R2 I defined a view which looks like this
    create view test_view
    as
    select 'field1;field2;field3' field from dual
    union all
    select field
    from (
    select tfield1||';'||tfield2||';'||tfield3 field
    from table1
    order by tfield1,tfield2,tfield3
    The idea is, my first line contains a header information an then the data in the required sorting order.
    So, in 10R2, when I export the view with select field from test_view, I get the result as expected, which means, the header from the part with the dual was in the first line and after that, the data in the required sort order.
    Now, in 11.1.0.7, it is completely different, because the row of the dual is somewhere in my result set. But if I send the sql instead of the view, I get the expected result as in 10R2.
    I have no idea why this is the case now, because in 10R2 this was working permanently as expected. When I look at the execution plan, I see, that he starts parallelisation, which is ok, but the difference is, that in this parallelisation the select from dual is included and in 10R2 he first make the line from the dual and then the parallelisation with the data. It's not clear to me, that if I send the sql to the database I see the required result, but if i define the view as mentioned, and start a select field from view, I get now get the different sorting, because of the parallelisation, where the optimizer he changes his behavior comparing the both database versions. So my question ist, how can I change this behavior to get the same behavior as in release 10R2.
    Best regards
    Rainer

    Hello,
    thank you for your sample, I see your idea for my sorting purpose.
    I want to look at the following point:
    I create the table, as you described. The table has the degree and instances 1. Now I deefine the following view:
    create view view_test
    as
    select 'field1;field2;field3' field
    from dual
    union all
    select tfield1 || ';' || tfield2 || ';' || tfield3 field
    from (select * from table1 order by tfield1,tfield2).
    This is the way I used it in 10 R2.
    Now, the SQL select field from view_test delivers the expected result:
    field1;field2;field3
    a;b;c
    d;e;f
    So far so good. But now, I changed the degree of the table1 (alter table table1 parallel (degree 4 instances 1);).
    The result looks like that:
    a;b;c
    field1;field2;field3
    d;e;f
    So, the parallelisation of my object seems to be the reason for the, in my eyes, "wrong" sort order. In 10R2 I used this degree and instance values for my table and defined a view and it was working fine. Now, after our migration, I had this "trouble". For me it seems, that the optimizer made some changes, or mabe this is a bug, who knows ?
    I also tried, to change the nls_comp, and set the undocumented parameters as described in the Metalink note 7497640.8, but with no effect of my result set.
    Best regards
    Rainer

  • Discoverer 4i Plus returns no data when using views with db link references

    I am using Discoverer 41 Plus to view reports online.
    When I create a worksheet based on a view, that only references local tables, everything is OK and Disco plus shows the output OK.
    When I create a worksheet based on a view, that references a Database link, Disco plus gives me an "Query caused no data to be returned" error.
    Is this to be expected from Discoverer Plus?
    Thanks - Sue.

    I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the default position (and default aggregate) for the EUL folder item? I can see that some of the folders have number type items with default position 'Data Point' and others have these with default position of 'Top or Side'. I'm totally stabbing around in the dark here; looking at EUL folders which exhibit the problem and those which don't.
    I've tried changing one field to 'Data Point' and it hasn't helped. Will try changing the join items now I think.
    If anyone has any comments, would be v. grateful as I'm looking at dropping folders which have quite a bit of code around them and trying to re-create them exactly, which is a risky and horrible solution.

  • ORA13226 when using view with geometry created using sdo_util.simplify

    I have a polygon table (and spatial index) using Ora11.1 that i can query such as:
    Select ID From MyTable A where (MDSYS.SDO_RELATE(A.GEOMETRY, SDO_GEOMETRY(2003, 8307, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1003, 3), SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(73.091805, 18.312310, 72.250051, 19.076872)), 'mask=INSIDE+COVEREDBY+EQUAL querytype=window') = 'TRUE');
    This query returns 2 rows. I have created a view:
    create or replace view v_MyTable as
    select id, sdo_util.simplify(geometry,20,2) as s_geometry
    from MyTable;
    The subsequent query returns ORA13226
    Select ID From v_MyTable A where (MDSYS.SDO_RELATE(A.S_GEOMETRY, SDO_GEOMETRY(2003, 8307, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1003, 3), SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(73.091805, 18.312310, 72.250051, 19.076872)), 'mask=INSIDE+COVEREDBY+EQUAL querytype=window') = 'TRUE');
    If I create a view which does not use the simplify function the query works.

    tcbalent,
    This is correct behaviour if you are trying the query the view:
    Select ID
      From V_MyTable A
    where (MDSYS.SDO_RELATE(A.GEOMETRY, SDO_GEOMETRY(2003, 8307, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1003, 3), SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(73.091805, 18.312310, 72.250051, 19.076872)), 'mask=INSIDE+COVEREDBY+EQUAL querytype=window') = 'TRUE');This is because the A.GEOMETRY is not the geometry in the original table (MyTable) but a programmatically
    constructed geometry on the fly which is not indexed.
    You can fix this with a function based index as follows (NOTE: This uses my own test data that is projected and not geodetic):
    DROP  table myTable;
    create table myTable
    as
    select rownum as Id, geom as geometry
    from  projpoly2d
    where polytype NOT IN ('COMPOUNDOUTERSHELL','VERTEXWITHARCNOHOLE');
    delete from user_sdo_geom_metadata where table_name = 'MYTABLE' and column_name = 'GEOMETRY'; commit;
    insert into user_sdo_geom_metadata(table_name, column_name,diminfo,srid)
    select 'MYTABLE','GEOMETRY',diminfo,srid
      from user_sdo_geom_metadata
    where table_name = 'PROJPOLY2D'
       and column_name = 'GEOM';
    commit;
    create or replace view v_MyTable
    as
    select id, sdo_util.simplify(geometry,20,2) as S_geometry
    from MyTable;
    -- Create index metadata
    delete from user_sdo_geom_metadata where table_name = 'MYTABLE' and column_name = 'MDSYS.SDO_UTIL.SIMPLIFY(GEOMETRY,20,2)'; commit;
    insert into user_sdo_geom_metadata(table_name, column_name,diminfo,srid)
    select 'MYTABLE','MDSYS.SDO_UTIL.SIMPLIFY(GEOMETRY,20,2)',diminfo,srid
      from user_sdo_geom_metadata
    where table_name = 'MYTABLE' and column_name = 'GEOMETRY';
    commit;
    select * from user_sdo_geom_metadata;
    -- Now create index
    drop   index MyTable_sgeometry_spdx;
    create index MyTable_sgeometry_spdx on MyTable(MDSYS.SDO_UTIL.SIMPLIFY(GEOMETRY,20,2))
         indextype is mdsys.spatial_index parameters('sdo_indx_dims=2, layer_gtype=polygon');
    Select ID
      From v_MyTable A
    where (MDSYS.SDO_RELATE(A.S_GEOMETRY,
                             MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY(2003, NULL, NULL, MDSYS.SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1,1003,3), MDSYS.SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(190000.0, 5120000.0, 640000.0, 5630000.0)),
                            'mask=INSIDE+COVEREDBY+EQUAL querytype=window') = 'TRUE');
    -- Result
    ID
    5
    1
    4
    2

  • Inconsistent SQL results when using View with UNION-ALL and table function

    Can any of you please execute the below scripts and check the output. In the table type variable, I am adding 4 distinct object ids, where as in the result, I get only the row pertaining to last id in the table type variable. Same row is returned 4 times (4= number of values in the table type).
    This scenario is occurring in our product with a SQL with exactly same pattern. I could simulate the same issue with the sample script I have provided.

  • Creating Entitybeans from Database-Views with Sun Applicationserver 8.1

    Hello,
    Im implementing a databaseapplication with J2EE and Sun AppServer 8.1. Now I actually dont want to use the database-tables directly. Instead I want to use views, because then the structure of the underlying table doesnt matter. Only the view needs to be modified.
    Is it possible to use Entitybeans with views? Or is it only possible to use EJBs with tables?
    If it is possible please be so kind to give an example or explain how. I tried the capture-schema - Approach but there are no views in the capturefile. Please help!
    Thank you!
    Gregor

    You should be able to use views with EJBs, but as you correctly realized, you need to get them into your dbschema file first. Try specifying the view names as parameters to the table arguments in the capture schema tool, or try the UI for schema capture in NetBeans or Studio.

  • Has anyone setup BIEE with OLAP 10g using value-based dimension hierarchies

    I just wanted to know if it is possible to setup BIEE with 10g using multple dimensions containing multiple value-based hierarchies?
    I know this involves using the OLAP Cube View Generator to create an sql view of the cube data.
    I have been able to get this to work with nine dimensions all containing a single value-based hierarchy bar one which had four value-based hierarchies. But as soon as i have multiple hierarchies in multiple dimensions it seems to go haywire and i cannot get the sql view to return correct data.
    I thought i would post on the BI side to see if anyone has been successful in creating a BIEE setup like this?

    The simple answer to your question,
    how robust is the 11g materialised views with multiple value-based hierarchies...?is that materialized views are not supported on top of value-based hierarchies in 11g. The reason is that it is not possible to write a reasonable SQL statement that aggregates a fact over a value-based hierarchy. Such a SQL statement is necessary if we want to create a rewritable MV on top of the cube.
    But I suspect this is not what you are really asking. If you are trying to set up OBIEE on top of the cube in 10g using the view generator, then you will probably want to use the "ET VIEWS" that are generated automatically in 11g. These are generated whether or not you enable materialized views on top of your cube. I am not aware of any issues with the generated value-based hierarchy view support in 11g. Members may be shared between value hierarchies and you will not need to generate or modify limit maps.

  • Error when using Analytic view with Input Parameters

    Hi,
    I am trying to create an info space based on my Analytic view which has input parameters. The infospace is validated and indexed without any issue. However when I ran the view, I get an error (50011) as it is unable to fetch any results. I tried using an infospace based on Calculation view with input parameters and the explorer view works without any issue.
    Has anyone faced similar issues?
    We are using HANA SP 6 rev 67 and BI 4.0 SP 4.
    Also is there a way to enable input prompts for the users when they refresh the BO Explorer view? If not currently available is there any work around ?
    Thanks

    Hello George,
    I don't have any personalization set on the info space. Also I am using mapped Account in BI to connect to HANA. The confusing part is that it is able to validate the infospace with the input parameters and index it. However query does not return any results. I even tried running the same query which explorer sends to HANA in the SQL editor and there too the same results,the query does not return anything. The model does return data when I do a data preview and if accessed from other tools like AAO.
    Also when I use SSO connection to HANA, indexing of the infospace fails. Where can I see the error log?
    Thanks,

    Hi Ben,
    How did you design the filter on the view?
     This error usually occurred when people use SQL T-SQL. Here are two similar posts , please check whether they are useful for you:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e1ba76f9-855f-4087-91a7-c3e492e59be4/conversion-failed-when-converting-the-nvarchar-value-xxxxxx-to-data-type-int?forum=transactsql

    Please create a new list, and create a new view, then add a filter on the view, compare the result.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Wendy

  • What is the use for CREATING VIEW WITH CHECK OPTION?

    Dear Legends,
    I have a doubt
    What is the use for creating view?
    A: First Data Integrity, Selecting Particular Columns..
    What is the use for creating a view with check option?
    A: As per oracle manual I read that its a referential integrity check through views.
    A: Enforcing constraints at DB level.
    A: using CHECK OPTION we can do INSERTS UPDATES for a view for those columns who have no constraints... is it right??
    A: If we do a INSERT OR UPDATE for columns who have constraints it will show error... is it right???
    Please clear my doubt's Legends
    Lots of Thanks....

    Karthik

    ... What is the use for creating view?
    A: First Data Integrity, Selecting Particular Columns..Most views are created and used for convenience. A view is a saved query. If the same operations are often done, then it can be very convenient to code those operations once, in a view, and refer to the view rather than explicitly doing those operations.
    Sometimes, views are created and used for security reasons. For example, you many want to allow some users to see only certain rows or certain columns of a table.
    Views are necessary for INSTEAD OF triggers.
    What is the use for creating a view with check option?
    A: As per oracle manual I read that its a referential integrity check through views.The reason is integrity, not necessarily referential integrity. The CHECK option applies only when DML is done through the view. It prohibits certain changes. For example, if a user can't see certain rows through a view, the CHECK option keeps the user from creating such rows.
    A: Enforcing constraints at DB level.I'm not sure what you mean. Please give an example.
    A: using CHECK OPTION we can do INSERTS UPDATES for a view for those columns who have no constraints... is it right??No. Using CHECK OPTION, you can do some inserts and updates, but not others. The columns involved may or may not have constraints in either case.
    A: If we do a INSERT OR UPDATE for columns who have constraints it will show error... is it right???If you try to violate a constraint, you'll get an error. That happens in views with or without the CHECK OPTION, and also in tables.

  • Need help in creating a view with Encryption for hiding the code used by the multiple users

    Hi,
    Can anyone help me out in creating view with encryption data to hide the stored procedure logic with other users.
    I have create a stored procedure with encryted view but while running this manually temporary views are getting created, therefore the problem is if there are 500 entries then 500 temp views will get created.
    Any solution to aviod creating temporary views, please refer my code below
    USE [etl_validation]
    GO
    /****** Object:  StoredProcedure [dbo].[Pr_DBAccess_mod]    Script Date: 05/23/2014 12:53:22 ******/
    SET ANSI_NULLS ON
    GO
    SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
    GO
    ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[Pr_DBAccess_mod](@ETL_CONFIG_ID INT)
    AS
    BEGIN
    DECLARE @openquery NVARCHAR(MAX),
     @DATABASENAME NVARCHAR(100),
     @HIERNAME NVARCHAR(100),
     @TABLENAME NVARCHAR(100),
     @SERVERTYPE NVARCHAR(100),
     @SERVERNAME NVARCHAR(100),
     @USERNAME NVARCHAR(100),
     @PASSWORD NVARCHAR(100),
     @ETL_CONFIG_IDN NVARCHAR(100);
     SET @ETL_CONFIG_IDN=CAST(@ETL_CONFIG_ID AS NVARCHAR);
     SET @TABLENAME='Department';
     SET @SERVERTYPE='SQL';
     SET @SERVERNAME ='192.168.31.176';
     SET @DATABASENAME='AdventureWorks2008R2';
     SET @HIERNAME = 'HumanResources';
     IF @SERVERTYPE='SQL'
     BEGIN
    /*SET @openquery= 'SELECT * INTO ##TestTable
                     FROM OPENROWSET(''SQLNCLI'',''server=192.168.31.176;Trusted_Connection=yes;'','''+@query+''')'
    SET @openquery=  'CREATE VIEW '+@TABLENAME+@ETL_CONFIG_IDN+
                     ' WITH ENCRYPTION AS SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET(''SQLNCLI'',''SERVER='+@SERVERNAME+';TRUSTED_CONNECTION=YES;'',''SELECT * FROM '+@DATABASENAME+'.'+@HIERNAME+'.'+@TABLENAME+''')'
    SELECT @openquery
    END
    EXECUTE sp_executesql @openquery
    END

    Hi aa_rif,
    According to your description and code message, you execute the sp_executesql statement in your stored procedure, it indeed create many views with a tablename and ETL_CONFIG_ID named. If you need not to use these temporary views, you can delete them when
    it contains the tablename in one view name.
    In addition, if you want to create view with encryption in SQL Server, you can use directly the ENCRYPTION option to encrypt the T-SQL of a view in create view commands, for more information, see:
    http://learnsqlserver.in/4/Create-View-With-Encryption.aspx. if not, you can descript more detail about requriements, so that more forum members can involve into the thread and help you
    out.
