Using Weblogic as a front end web server

Hi all, recently there has been a push for us to investigate moving our Iplanet
web servers to Weblogic. So our architecture would be WLS web instances on the
front and passing back to WLS app servers on the back end. We would need to run
SSL and none SSL and handle certificates and multiple applications on each web
server as well as serve up static content. Has anybody had any experience with
going to this set up, and if so would you recomend it ? It looks way harder then
setting up a Apache or Iplanet web server.

I would say in general that the main weakness of WLS as a web server
is on
the administration side of things.

  • Can Sharepoint Front end web server running on VMware protected by DPM 2012

    Hi,
We use Vmware environment, have SharePoint on Vmware server.
Is it possible to be protected by DPM 2012?
Because came across " http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh757870.aspx " where it says ---
Front-End Web Server Running on Hyper-V Virtual Machine
With DPM, you can perform backup and recovery of virtual machines that are running on Hyper-V. For more information about how to protect Hyper-V virtual machines, see Protecting
virtual machines with SMB storage andRecovering virtual machines. If the front-end Web server of a SharePoint farm is on a computer
that is running on any other virtualization technology, you can protect it just as you would a physical computer

Thanks Mike,  Are you sure because it says - You can perform backup and recovery of virtual machines that are running on Hyper-V,
If the front-end Web server of a SharePoint farm is on a computer that is running on any other virtualization technology, you can protect

  • Front-end HTTP Server and Performance with .jspx pages?

This is more of a general question that I'm looking for validation:
If the majority of our website is implemented as .jspx pages, with very few straight HTML pages, is there benefit in deploying to an environment with a separate HTTP front-end web server and back-end Application server (java container)? For example, I'm deploying to Tomcat as both the HTTP server and Java Application server for the .jspx pages; is there a performance advantage in deploying to an Apache HTTP server with a connector to Tomcat if I'm primarily serving up .jspx pages? I'm not as familiar with Oracle AS architecture, so my question is primarily around Tomcat deployment.

  • Using ohs as a front end to weblogic

I had a lot of trouble trying to enable ssl in weblogic (10.3.4 windows 64 bits). So I was thinking of just using ohs as a front end. I need the traffice between the forms and reports clients and the web service to be encrypted. Between the webservice and weblogic and database can be in the clear. I already got ohs to do ssl for application express. It was nowhere as hard to deal with as weblogic (10.3.4) . I don't seem to be able to think like weblogic :-(
However I need some good and correct instructions on how to do this. Anyone got any?
This is one of those things where the more you look the more confused you get.
(BTW this seems to be saying you can't use ohs in front of em or console.)
    for example:
    Doc ID 1268723.1
Following this note will result in the following architecture:
Browser --> https --> OHS --> https --> WebLogic Server
There are three steps needed to configure mod_wl_ohs in this setup:
Step I: Configure OHS for SSL
Step II: Configure Weblogic for SSL
    Step III: Configure mod_wl_ohs
Now that is very complex and one has to face both the wallet and the keystore and more.
    whereas another doc
    Doc ID 1240977.1
advocates only enabling ssl in ohs and not in weblogic. Well which is it? Does ssl have to be in weblogic?
If it does I could picture not involving ohs and that apparently crash prone module.

Well I wanted to close this out by saying that I never found out definitively how to put ohs in front of
weblogic. (10.3.4) I'm not sure it's that great of an idea considering some reports of problems with
mod_wl_ohs in support but anyway I did get ssl working in weblogic. Basically I followed 1109753.1 This is the very
simple way that you just configure ssl for wls_forms and wls_reports in weblogic and no involvement of any apache
modules or rewriting or proxying or anything like that.
I did convert the oracle wallet (cwallet.sso) that I was using for ohs to .jks using the
orapki pks12_to_jks command. That had in fact the server cert and two associated trust certs from the cert
vendor. Some instructions make it sound like you have to "separate identity and trust" but I didn't and it does
    work.
Configuration of WLS_FORMS or WLS_REPORTS for ssl is like this:
    in weblogic administration http://myserver:7001/console :
    (environment,servers, WLS_FORMS)
    _________keystores tab _________________
keystores: custom identity and java standard trust
    custom identity keystore: d:\somewhere\mykeystore.jks
    custom identity keystore type JKS
    custom identity keystore passphrase keystorepasswd
    Java Standard Trust Keystore:
    C:\PROGRA~1\Java\JDK16~1.0_2\jre\lib\security\cacerts
Java Standard Trust Keystore Type:     jks
<no passwords entered for java standard trust although the password is known to be changeit>
    ___________SSL tab_____________
    Identity and Trust Locations:     Keystores
Private Key Location:     from Custom Identity Keystore
Private Key Alias: <for key. You can list this with a utility if you forgot>
Private Key Passphrase: <private key password>
Certificate Location:     from Custom Identity Keystore
Trusted Certificate Authorities:     from Java Standard Trust Keystore
    plus in Configuration Tab:
ssl listen port enabled specify port you want
I am guessing that since the forms and reports ports are different by default
that the ssl ports should be different also?
after that I actually think you have to stop and then start the service instead of just restart ssl.
Anyway then try whatever your forms or reports url was but using the new port and using https:
    eg. https://my.domain.name:7002/forms/frmservlet
If that doesn't work then look for the log which is something like:
    c:\<middlewarehome>/user_projects/domains/mydomain/servers/WLS_FORMS/logs look for it there.

  • Front End Installation Server - Administrator rights on client PC's

We are using a third party repackaging tool to deploy sapgui to our workstations.  This has proven to be problematic in the past and are now considering the SAP Front End Installation server approach.
After reveiwing the installation guide we are wondering about how packages are deployed to workstations.  Our users do not have administrator priveleges on thier workstations, so is it still possible to deploy packages from the installation server (either where they "pull" it down, or it is pushed down to them).
This factor is one reason we are still using the third party repackaging tool because packages can be deployed under a "system" account (via a cleint agent on each PC) - in lieu of each user having administrator privelges on their workstations.
If the SAP Installation server requires users to have these elevated priveleges it won't be an option for us.  Does anyone else have any experience with the Installation server and users who do not have administrator priveleges?
Any feedback, directions, or links to additional resources would be greatly appreciated and happily rewarded with positive feedback and reward points

    Rajiv,
If you have Forte's WebEnterprise product, and Forte version 3.0.G.x or
later, you have the ability to export an IIOP interface for any Forte
service object. In fact, you can go one step further and generate a Java
interface that "hides" the IIOP issues from the developer. The way you do
this is to do the following:
    1) From the partitioning workshop, double click on the service object you
wish to expose as an IIOP interface. This will bring up the Service Object
    Properties dialog.
    2) Off the Export tab, set the External Type drop down to IIOP. If IIOP is
not an available option in the drop down list then you do not have
    WebEnterprise install.
    3) From here you need to set up the necessary IIOP configuration parameters
(see the documentation for details on the specifics of what the parameters
    control).
    4) If you want to have Forte generate a JavaBean interface and the necessary
Java classes to be called by your application then make sure you select the
Java parameter at the bottom of the Configuration dialog. If IDL is
selected then Forte will generate a generic IDL interface.
    5) When you make your distribution Forte will generate the Java classes for
    you.
This mechanism works very well for accessing a Forte service object from a
    Java application.
    Good Luck!

  • Can i change my Exchange 2003 organization to NATIVE MODE if my Front-End Exchange server is Windows 2000 Server

I am planing to upgrade from exchange server 2003 to exchange server 2010. I understand 2010 can co-exisist with 2003, but my 2003 organization must be in NATIVE MODE, not a problem because i don't have anymore MS Server 2000 domain controllers, they
were decommisioned a few moths after we moved to AD. However my Front-End exchange server that sits on my DMZ is running Exchange server 2003 on Windows 2000 Server.
Can i change my Exchange 2003 organization to NATIVE MODE if my Front-End Exchange server is on the Windows 2000 Server OS? If not, will i have to setup a new Front-End Exchange server on at least Windows Server 2003 to replace the 2000 server setup?
It's been a very long time since these servers were configured so i may need help setting up a new Front-End server if it will be required.
    thanks

    Bobby

My apologies for the very, very late reply, is have made the change to native mode for my
Exchange environment, email is working fine, no problems. Thanks Cheng.<o:p></o:p>
I ran the Exchange 2010 Pre-Deployment Analyzer tool yesterday, and it showed that the
Active Directoy Forest is not Windows Server 2003 native. The domain forest
functional level showed the level to be "Windows Server 2003", is
    just wanted to verify this.<o:p></o:p>
Our corporate AD has one Root domain, (I’ll call it, Corp.com) and one child
domain, (I’ll call it, na.corp.com). na.corp.com is functioning at Server 2003,
the Forest of Corp.com, as the analyzer found, shows a functional level of
Windows 2000. All Windows 2000 PDC have been off the network for almost 9
years, and were properly demoted and removed. I guess the one place is didn't
look was at the Forest level.<o:p></o:p>
I opened the AD Sites and Service mmc plugin on the corp.com server and did find the old
Windows 2000 PDC listed with the Servers. I drilled down into the containers
for the old server, deleted everything, and was able to delete the W2K PDC. I
still cannot raise the Forest level however.<o:p></o:p>
I also noticed that domain replication has errors, (8614, 1908, 1256, and 8606), so i
have a bit of a mess, and i am not sure how to fix it. I will post this on the
Exchange 2010 upgrade, and AD forums for assistance, but i wonder if i need
    paid assistance.<o:p></o:p>
    Thanks again Cheng

  • How to use the Enterprise portal as a web server

    Hi there,
For portal content I would like to create an URL-iview for a picture (.jpg file) where i want to put the picture on the SAP portal itself. So in this case the portal also acts as the web server.
    If this is possible.
Where do i put the picture (in which directory)?
What is the url to be used for the iview?
    thanks in advance
    Bertil

You can create a jsp page.  The portal will display it for you if you want.
    d:\usr\sap\<SYSID>\j2ee\j2ee_00\cluster\server\services\SERVLE~1\work\jspTemp\irj\root
Underneath this folder I placed a jsp folder.  I could have called it anything.  You can place pages here.  You can take a standard html page and throw the following two lines at the top.
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" language="java" import="java.sql.*" errorPage="" %>
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
And it automagically becomes a jsp page.  Granted if you really want to do fancy stuff with java server pages you will have to delve into some java and javascript.
I created an images directory and placed my pictures in that folder.
Then I created an iview pointing to a web page.
    http://<yourserver>:50000/irj/jsp/mywebpage.jsp
You can even try the page out in a browser before creating an iview.  If you are concerned about security you will have to place in within the PCD and do ACL to lock it down.
Good luck.  I am sure there are other ways but this is how I did it.

  • CF Licensing on two front end web servers

I'm currently running CF 9 Standard on a since server that runs as my web and db server.  I use Rackspace Cloud btw.
I've been thinking about changing my infrustructure around so it would look like this:
    - 1 Load Balancer
    - 2 Web Servers
    - 1 Database Server
My question is about licensing on the 2 web servers.
    - Is it possible to use a single CF Standard license to cover both web servers (since they are just syncing each other, they are basically the same server but split into two separate virtual machines), or would I need to purchase 2 individual licenses to make this work?
Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Using external LDAP to create a web server

Hello everyone, I am working on a project for the university I work for. We have an iPlanet LDAP server that contains the identities of everyone (faculty, staff, students). I have set up an experimental OS X server that we'd like to play with; in particular, we'd like to use it as a web server for faculty, etc. I am trying to collect as much information as possible on this topic. I'm learning a lot about Open Directory on the web.
I would like to know if it's possible to use the OS X server to query the iPlanet LDAP directory to authenticate users' identities and give them web space automatically on the OS X server? Or will we have to perform extracts of data from LDAP and manually synch with the OS X server?
(We also have an AD environment, but we'll skip that for now because the students aren't in AD... yet.)
    Thanks for any insight.
    MacBook 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You should be able to use /Applications/Utilities/Directory Access to bind the server to the iPlanet directory. Once that's done the standard web installation should automatically handle personal home pages for any user in the directory.
The web server doesn't talk directly to the LDAP server, it uses the standard system directory services so it doesn't matter what directory server you use.

To configure sunone to work with WLS, you need to make entires in the magnus.conf and the obj.conf.From the error, it seems as if u missed the entries in the obj.conf.

    bwout.close();

    return err;
The file is neither created or written into even if i am creating it.
    Regards,

Does the path to the file exist? Otherwise you should try adding a File.mkdirs() call in there to create the directory where you want to write the logfile to. Otherwise writing the file will fail.
