Using XML DB with Oracle Drive as Webdav client

Hi all -
I'm looking into using XML DB (10g) to store files so we can query their content via SQL/XPATH and then access/edit them via Webdav.
Windows Vista makes this easy, since it can map a drive to a Webdav URL. Mac OSX can do a similar thing.
Windows XP however can't do the drive mapping for WebDav on a port other than port 80, which is our setup.
So I tried out Oracle Drive, which I stumbled across on some site somewhere, and it worked. But it was an old version, so I downloaded the "official" version from Oracle, which is v10.2.0.0.22. This version refuses to connect to XML DB no matter what I do. I've fiddled with authentication, proxies, and so on (there are several posts elsewhere with hints on this) but so far no joy.
Has anyone had any experience making the latest version of Oracle Drive talk to XML DB?
Many Thanks

Thanks for replying.
Yes, we may decide to move XML DB to port 80, but there are other services running on our server and such a move would be a significant hassle.
As for Windows XP, it is not possible to do this: net use * http://server:8080/public
This works on Vista, but it only works on XP if you use port 80.
Note that XP has TWO built in Webdav clients: Web Folders (= Network Places) which is a feature in Explorer, and the Webdav Mini-Director which works at the file-system level. I don't think Web Folders can work for us since we need to be able to create a real filepath to give to our editor application. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but I can't figure it out.
Oracle Drive seems to be a great solution, but I can't make the most recent version work (the old version worked but was buggy).

    Hi,
    When I tried to connect to Apex (webdav) on an XE database to access themes and css with Oracle Drive it sends incorrect user or password message, I tried with sys, system and other users.
    With windows explorer I could connect using the same user.
    Any help to sove my problem is welcome

    I am having some issues with connecting to Apex Listener via SQL Developer. I get "cannot connect to connection" when I attempt to connect.
    I do get apex pages (when I use the Glassfish default port - it doesn't seem to take the specified port which is defined as 7788 in the apex.properties at the config.dir location). The port specified in apex.properties is only used by Standalone Mode, the port that GlassFish uses is configured by GlassFish, not Listener.
    I have defined the user via the war config (which is written to the credentials file), and added the users under default config > file realm in Glassfish.You only need to do the former, doing the latter should have no effect, I would remove the user in the GlassFish file realm, to avoid causing confusion.
    I wonder if anyone has had a similar issue?
    Ensure you have spelt the role name correctly when setting up the user, any typos (it is case sensitive) and it won't match the role, and will therefore refuse access.

    If neither of those work, try turning on logging in the Listener to see if the request is even reaching Listener (It sounds like it's not even connecting TBH).

  • Problems using XML DB with Schema

    Hi,
    I am attempting to use Java code running on WebLogic Server 10.3 to insert some XML documents into an Oracle Database (11gr1) and have them ‘shredded’ into columns, as the documentation claims is possible.
    I registered the XML Schema with Oracle using SQL*Plus, and have verified that tables and types are being built as expected. (Partial details below if needed.)
    I am able to insert records into the table, using XMLType, but they do not appear to be shredded in such a way that we can perform relational queries on them. References I found on the Oracle web site and others implied that if the XMLType is created with a schema associated, the insert will perform the shredding.
    When I attempt to create the XMLType with a schema in either of the two ways below, I get SQLExceptions.
    xml = XMLType.createXML(conn,doc.toString(), schema, true, true);
    Or
    xml = xml.createSchemaBasedXML(schema); // after a successful XMLType.createXML(conn, doc.toString());
    The most recent error is java.sql.SQLException: Fail to convert to internal representation (full stack trace along with the doc.toString() is below).
    How can I get more insight into what is causing this problem? Is there a more appropriate way to persist XML documents into Oracle relational tables? Is there some sample code/tutorial I can use that shows how to do this?
    Thank you,

    Thanks - I have been fighting with another problem for the past few days, but am getting back to this now...
    I think the second link you sent helped me realize that the particular error came while using the 'thin' driver; I had other problems when I used the OCI driver... I'll try it again and see, now that I'm using a container managed datasource...
    I registered the schema in SQL*Plus using the command:
    BEGIN
    DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.registerURI(
    'http://foo.org/mySchema',
    '/home/foo/mySchema.xsd',
    LOCAL=>TRUE, GENTYPES=>TRUE, GENBEAN=>FALSE, GENTABLES=>TRUE);
    END;
    Everything created, was created from that command. I did use xdb annotations, but perhaps I didn't use enough of them...
    In this simple example (I have more complicated ones) there are only the two attributes; I've been hoping that I would be able to use normal sql statements, e.g.
    SELECT * FROM objecthandle WHERE objectuid='objecthandle_301';
    and get back either the XML or a resultset -- I'm less picky about that right now.
    I've been unable to find good reference material for this query; any advice will be appreciated.

  • Statement closed when using callable statements with oracle xe

    hi all, i've got this problem with oracle express edition 10g. I am using also oc4j v10.1.2.0.2. When working with a normal oracle database it was working fine (i think the code was the same, it's some time since i last tried, but you can see the code is very simple).
    So i just create a callable statement like this:
    CallableStatement cs = con.prepareCall(sentencia.toString(), ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE, ResultSet.HOLD_CURSORS_OVER_COMMIT);
    and then when trying to access the statement to register an out parameter like this
    cs.registerOutParameter(1, parámetros[0].getTipo());
    it gives this error:
    java.sql.SQLException: Statement was closed
    It's puzzling me because, as i said before, i think the same code was working ok with a normal oracle database.
    Any idea what can it be?
    cheers

    Ah okay, sorry I've re-read your post.
    I believe you need to create a clob object that encapsulates your xml file.
    I've never done this but I would image it involves creating a class that implements the clob interface and passing an instantiation of this class to the callablestatement.
    Let me know how you get on.

  • How to set mandatory category with Oracle Drive?

    Hi,
    is there a way to fill a mandatory category when a file is stored via Oracle Drive?
    I have tested this in OCS 10.1.2.0 and it works only with the web frontend but not in Oracle Drive. If i save a file in a directory which has categories assigned then i get an error that metadata are required but i got no chance to set them anywhere.

    Hi,
    we have the same problem in our system. We become an answer from Oracle that in the next ODrivepatch (end of Q2) this will be fixed. At the moment you can only use a none mandatory category to copy files over ODrive in the system and then change to the WebUI and fill out the category that you need.

  • Help with registering multiple XML versions with Oracle 9i

    Hello,
    I have a fundamental question. Probably someone had been in similar situation and thought of the best way to handle.
    Our product has about 15 versions that we need to support.
    Each version publishes its 'xmlschema' and is slightly different from the previous version.
    Now if I register each schema version with oracle9i it will auto-create tables for each version (even for xml elements/attributes that are same across different versions).
    2 options that we thought of so far to handle this is
    -Combine all 15 versions schema's into 1 super-set schema and register with oracle db. Fields/elements, a version does not use will be empty
    -Use XML 'extensions' in various xml schema, such that each version in 'extended' from the previous one and keeps on adding its additions attributes/elements. My question is then if I register these 15 'extended' schemas with oracle, will it create common DB tables per version or it will still create unique tables for all 15 versions.
    Anyone has any better suggestions or comments to handle this situation ?
    thanx

    Q: Are there special steps for using Java-based applications with assistive technology?
    A: If the Oracle application is written in Java, such as JDeveloper or Oracle Forms (runtime), customers must first install the latest version of Sun's Java Access Bridge. The Java Access Bridge provides the integration with screen readers such as JAWS or SuperNova that support Java. You just download the Access Bridge and install it. Sun's AccessBridge 2.0x recognizes Oracle's JInitiator 1.3x and above so no manual configuration steps are necessary. The Access Bridge is available from: http://java.sun.com/products/accessbridge. At the time this document was written, Access Bridge 2.0.1 is the most current publicly available production release; Oracle recommends upgrading to this version. Sun's AccessBridge is bundled with Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) and can be found in the Java Runtime Engine (JRE). More information for configuring such products is in the respective product documentation, or on http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/accessibility/products/index.html.

    ODP.NET requires Oracle Client 9.2 or higher.
    You can find additional information about ODP.NET from the FAQ:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/windows/odpnet/faq.html
    and the ODP.NET homepage:

  • "Error while using XML iview" with XML iview template

    Our portal platform: HP-UX,  WAS 6.40 JAVA, EP 6.0 SP14
    We created an XML iview using XML iview template and configured the XML source URL with RSS feeder addresses such as"https://forums.sdn.sap.com/rss/rssmessages.jsp?forumID=41". And then select RSS to XHTMLB as the XML transformation format and save.  When I try to preview the iview, I always got error "Error while using XML iview, please contact your system administrator".  Here is the log and among which I found an error "java.net.UnknownHostException: news.163.com".  Does this indicate that the Portal server is not able to interpret the address of the URL host?

  • Problem with Oracle Drive Advanced Properties

    I was able to successfully set up Oracle Drive however I can’t use any of the advance features such as “set properties” and “change access control lists”. When I right click on a file I get an option for Advanced Properties but when I click on that selection I receive a message “Advanced Properties is not supported by this server.” This would be a big help to many of our users so any troubleshooting tips would be much appreciated.

    I am using jstl to get and use xml data
    I needs to perform operations on the parsed xml document with other libraries of jstl. How can i do that.

    I can dislay this value in html by

    HOW CAN I SET THIS VALUE IN CORE VARIABLE THAT IS, USING <c:set...> SO THAT IT CAN BE USED ANYWHERE IN JSP PAGE TO CONCATE RETURNED STRING IN OTHER STRING VARIABLES DEFINED BY CORE LIB?

    I believe that <c:set> should do that but i am facing problem in it. Look into this jsp scriptlet:
    1-<x:parse varDom="test"> <c:import url="project.xml"/> </x:parse>
    2-<x:set var="ds" select="$test/project/projectName"/>
    3-<x:out select="$ds"/> <br>
    4-<c:set var="tt" value="${ds}" />
    5-<c:out value="${tt}" />
    In line 3 variable ds returns: myProject
    In line 5 variable tt returns: [[projectName: null]]
    perhaps on line 4 ds is storing some array to tt and i am not calling correct array element. I tried many options but still could not find solution. Plz Plz do something urgent for me. Thanks
