UTF characters render automatically to their visual representation even if there is a region-specific or international rep of them. Why?

As said in the question, international characters tend to download themselves and be shown in the main text. This might be unwanted for some international users who are rather used to be shown a question mark or unknown character instead, as maybe font downloading may not be wished at all for safety reasons. This is a minor problem, and I only encountered this by seeing the "Indian Rupees" sign replaced by the hindi symbol of it, instead of the familiar "Rs." abbreviation I was used to, but still a reminder to be careful with implementing Unicode.

If you have a font that covers a specific character then you will always see the character and not a possible box with the hex code or the html entity code.

I have series of files/templates where each contains a locale specific language such as Chinese, Japanese or German. I need to find out how do I get their unicode representations so I can send as html formatted email?
I can already send one for the English template as html formatted email w/out a problem. I was able to find a sample of unicode representation of Japanese and send that as a test. But how do I get the temaplates that I have and convert their contents into unicode?

You need to know what character encoding was used for the template text.
For example, you could have Japanese text encoded using UTF-8 or
encoded using ISO-2022-JP and the same Japanese characters would
be represented as a different sequence of bytes. Without knowing which
charset was used, you won't be able to convert the byte sequence back
into Unicode characters (e.g., to store in a Java String).
If you do know which charset was used, java.io.Reader will convert the
byte stream into Unicode characters.
If the charset information is not available, there are heuristics that you
can use to try to guess the correct charset, but by their nature they're
going to be wrong sometimes.

There is no "Render"-component in the JDAPI, so you will have to develop that "from scratch"

Implement Visual Representation (Stars) of user rating

I have a customer trying to implement the following visual representation of user rating.
Example
rating 1 :- *
rating 2 :- **
rating 3 :- ***
etc.
To represent the star we are using a small gif. To repeat the star as per the rating following code is attached with it under web tab

I realized IRU was useless for this, but maybe Match EQ on the before and after recorded reponses will tell us anything.
If I could dump the raw sine sweep to file (for example with wiretap pro), MatLab could also do the math. But Matlab is not free, either
I guess I'll just go for Match EQ. I'm just curious, and want some indication, don't need a thorough analysis for this.

Using Flash to create visual representation of Active Directory

Hi, I would like to know if anyone know how to do this? Basically, I have floorplans of the various sites that our company uses. i have made these floorplans vectors, and can be used in flash. the floor plans are quite detailed, with desks included. What I would like is some integration with Active directory, where i can have a visual picture of computers populating the various floorplans, but the population of this is driven by the active directory. so computer names and user names would be visable in this dynamic visual representation. I saw an article on the microsoft site, how to do just this with viso 2007, but wondering if i can do this with flash. any ideas?

Yes it is possible. Basically just few things are required to go ahead
1. need to understand Flash LoadVars
2. In ASP, you need to know how to connect to and run SQL against the database

Creating visual representations of data

Hello World!
This is my first Java project and I'm a little bit scared. I'm hoping someone can give me a general pointer or advice on how to approach the structure and setup of this project.
I want to create a Java tool that will allow a user to input a query to a MySQL database with the result being transformed into a visual representation when returned.
An example would be a user selecting a house from a drop-down list, whereby an icon w/label representing the top 3 houses from the database would be displayed.
My questions are:
- How would I best go about setting up packages, classes and objects for this project? Just the basics, not after anyone doing the project for me!
- I would like to leave scope for scaling the icon based on relative size/weight of the results. Is this possible?
- If a user types a query instead of a drop-down list, does this have any implications from a Java perspective?
- Finally, is there any freely available code that does something similar to this already that I could refer to? Or any tutorial recommendations?

I don't know any good resources on the web about OOD basics and software usability/ergonomy. But you might want to look at the following:

And use pencil and paper before writing code. Collect use cases - find out what your software is supposed to do -, and make sketches of your future GUI.

FCE, how to render automatically ?????

I have to render the clip every time i add an effect/filter/transition to the canvas, where as it just does it automatically in the viewer window. Is there a setting to make it render each time on its own in the canvas?

BUT - if You need to render often - this is due to that You didn't convert Your material right before importing it into FinalCut.
I use
• Video - streamingDV
• Audio - .aiff 16-bit 48kHz
If I use iMovie to Capture material then move this over to FinalCut - Then I've to render all the time so by converting
material in between I get a much nicer working environment.

IR - reponse curves, visual representation

Hi guys,
I'd like to try out the IR utility in our video studio, before and after some acoustic dampening of the room.
What I'd like to see, is some visual representation of the room response.
Is this possible/any good with IR utility? Will the deconvolved return signal suffice as a frequency response curve for the room? What about phase response?
I have never used the utility, but just printed the user guide (42p).
Browsing it, I find no info in this regard.

Hot Corners have visual representation on the screen

I don't know how I did it, but for any hot corner I have active, there is a visual representation that a corner is a hot corner. I see 1/4 of a circle in a light blue colour. If I turn hot corners off, the little 1/4 circle disappears.
Any ideas how to get rid of the 1/4 circles from the active hot corners. They never used to be there.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I don't have any of those type of programs installed. I have just got my MBP so have not installed very much at all.
Only tweak I have applied was to stop the computer waking from sleep when you open the lid, and that was done through terminal.

First of all, there is no need to put the entire text of your post into the title of your thread.
Next, does your daughter have an iPhone? Do her friends have iPhones? If the answer to both questions is "yes", then it is possible she is not texting them, but using iMessage to communicate with them. iMessages will not show up in the texting traffic on a line as they are not texts, but messages sent thru Apple's servers.
For all "texts" to show up in the texting activity of an iPhone, you must disable iMessage on the device. Any messages sent as iMessages(blue bubbles around the text) on an iPhone will not show up in any texting activity.

Because of this problem, I've had to even add special code letters before people's names to increase the chances of Siri getting it right, which is only about 70% of the time.

I realize this is an old thread but I'm having the same problem after upgrading my software today. Kinda surprised there are no solutions at all with 88 views. I have an iPod touch btw, not an iPhone, but it prob wouldn't make much difference in this case.
The thing is, I get the screen(s) looking EXACTLY as I want on iTunes...just perfect (which is what I believe everyone else is experiencing as well). When we go to sync tho, it does whatever it wants to do. After syncing, all the apps are there, it's just that for me, it puts them in some type of random order. I have 72 apps and this is absolutely ridiculous!

Did you ever install Acrobat? It is not installed automatically with CS, but requires an extra installation step.
