UTL_SMTP Example/Demo from Oracle
Based on the sample code provided by Oracle, is there a way to modify such a way that, same email content with attachments can be send to different email addresses/recipients? We do not like to send one email to all recipients’.
This is what I like to do.
1. Read the attachment once. Like to avoid reading this multiple times for each recipient.
2. Send separate emails for each recipient. We are NOT allowed to send a group email to all recipients.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/tech/pl_sql/htdocs/Utl_Smtp_Sample.html
Thanks
My requirement is very simple. I am sending an RFP to 10 different vendors. RFP is a PDF document.
I do NOT want to send an one email to all 10 vendors as a group. I like not to share the email addresses between the ten of them.
So I like to create a email procedure that does this.
1. Start email connection.
2. Include (read/write) attachment Only once.
3. save this connection in memory
4. Loop the 10 recipients and send the emails one after the other.
5. Close the email program.
Instead of below which what the DEMO email program does. Below example reads and writes the attachments TEN Times
loop 1..10
1. Start email connection.
2. Include first recipient
3. Include attachment
5. Close the email program.
Close loop

I have used Oracle 9i server (9.2.0.1 version) on Windows XP machine(with SP2).I want to send Email from PL/SQL procedure.
My Question is what sort of configuration needed to perform this activity?
I have installed IIS (Internet Information Service)
in my machine, then configure my SMTP mail server
with a valid email id and password given TCP port 465.
Later I came to know that to send Email from PL/SQL I have to install Oracle JServer Code. Follow three steps. the steps are
1. Execute the script as sys "$ORACLE_HOME\javavm\install\initjvm.sql"
2. Execute the loadjava classfile as
$ORACLE_HOME\plsql\jlib>loadjava -f -v -r -u sys/**** plsql.jar
3. Execute the script as sys "$ORACLE_HOME\rdbms\admin\initplsj.sql"
I sucessfully executed the first step, but for the second step iam not able to locate the plsql.jar file in the specified path.
So Please tell me if there is any other method to perform this task
My code is as follows.
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE SEND_MAIL (

Thank You.1) Why did you install an SMTP server locally and then tell your code to try to use the server mail.google.com?
2) The error you're getting is from mail.google.com indicating that Google isn't running an open SMTP server there. I would be very surprised if Google were running a publicly available SMTP server anywhere since that would be an invitation for spammers.

Do anybody know about sending the sms from oracle forms.If anybody had means please send me the script...... This is a commonly asked question. Have you tried searching the forum for possible solutions? Take a look at this search result. I would also recommend you take a look at the Oracle Forms Services 11g web page and scroll down to the Oracle Forms 11g calling a web service link. This is a white paper published by Grant Ronald that specifically describes the process of sending SMS from Oracle Forms.

Passing Array of java objects to and from oracle database-Complete Example
Hi all ,
I am posting a working example of Passing Array of java objects to and from oracle database . I have struggled a lot to get it working and since finally its working , postinmg it here so that it coudl be helpful to the rest of the folks.
First thinsg first
i) Create a Java Value Object which you want to pass .
create or replace and compile java source named Person as
import java.sql.*;
import java.io.*;
public class Person implements SQLData
private String sql_type = "PERSON_T";
public int person_id;
public String person_name;
public Person () {}
public String getSQLTypeName() throws SQLException { return sql_type; }
public void readSQL(SQLInput stream, String typeName) throws SQLException
sql_type = typeName;
person_id = stream.readInt();
person_name = stream.readString();
public void writeSQL(SQLOutput stream) throws SQLException
stream.writeInt (person_id);
stream.writeString (person_name);
ii) Once you created a Java class compile this class in sql plus. Just Copy paste and run it in SQL .
you should see a message called "Java created."
iii) Now create your object Types
CREATE TYPE person_t AS OBJECT
EXTERNAL NAME 'Person' LANGUAGE JAVA
USING SQLData (
person_id NUMBER(9) EXTERNAL NAME 'person_id',
person_name VARCHAR2(30) EXTERNAL NAME 'person_name'
iv) Now create a table of Objects
CREATE TYPE person_tab IS TABLE OF person_t;
v) Now create your procedure . Ensure that you create dummy table called "person_test" for loggiing values.
create or replace
procedure give_me_an_array( p_array in person_tab,p_arrayout out person_tab)
as
l_person_id Number;
l_person_name Varchar2(200);
l_person person_t;
l_p_arrayout person_tab;
errm Varchar2(2000);
begin
l_p_arrayout := person_tab();
for i in 1 .. p_array.count
loop
l_p_arrayout.extend;
insert into person_test values(p_array(i).person_id, 'in Record '||p_array(i).person_name);
l_person_id := p_array(i).person_id;
l_person_name := p_array(i).person_name;
l_person := person_t(null,null);
l_person.person_id := l_person_id + 5;
l_person.person_name := 'Out Record ' ||l_person_name ;
l_p_arrayout(i) := l_person;
end loop;
p_arrayout := l_p_arrayout;
l_person_id := p_arrayout.count;
for i in 1 .. p_arrayout.count
loop
insert into person_test values(l_person_id, p_arrayout(i).person_name);
end loop;
commit;
EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN
errm := SQLERRM;
insert into person_test values(-1, errm);
commit;
end;
vi) Now finally create your java class which will invoke the pl/sql procedure and get the updated value array and then display it on your screen>Alternatively you can also check the "person_test" tbale
import java.util.Date;
import java.io.*;
import java.sql.*;
import oracle.sql.*;
import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
import java.text.DateFormat;
import java.text.ParseException;
import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;
public class ArrayDemo
public static void passArray() throws SQLException
Connection conn = getConnection();
ArrayDemo a = new ArrayDemo();
Person pn1 = new Person();
pn1.person_id = 1;
pn1.person_name = "SunilKumar";
Person pn2 = new Person();
pn2.person_id = 2;
pn2.person_name = "Superb";
Person pn3 = new Person();
pn3.person_id = 31;
pn3.person_name = "Outstanding";
Person[] P_arr = {pn1, pn2, pn3};
Person[] P_arr_out = new Person[3];
ArrayDescriptor descriptor =
ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor( "PERSON_TAB", conn );
ARRAY array_to_pass =
new ARRAY( descriptor, conn, P_arr);
OracleCallableStatement ps =
(OracleCallableStatement )conn.prepareCall
( "begin give_me_an_array(?,?); end;" );
ps.setARRAY( 1, array_to_pass );
ps.registerOutParameter( 2, OracleTypes.ARRAY,"PERSON_TAB" );
ps.execute();
oracle.sql.ARRAY returnArray = (oracle.sql.ARRAY)ps.getArray(2);
Object[] personDetails = (Object[]) returnArray.getArray();
Person person_record = new Person();
for (int i = 0; i < personDetails.length; i++) {
person_record = (Person)personDetails;
System.out.println( "row " + i + " = '" + person_record.person_name +"'" );
public static void main (String args[]){
try
ArrayDemo tfc = new ArrayDemo();
tfc.passArray();
catch(Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
public static Connection getConnection() {
try
Class.forName ("oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver");
return DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@<<HostNanem>>:1523:VIS",
"username", "password");
catch(Exception SQLe) {
System.out.println("IN EXCEPTION BLOCK ");
return null;
and thats it. you are done.
Hope it atleast helps people to get started. Comments are appreciated. I can be reached at ([email protected]) or [email protected]
Thanks
Sunil.sHi Sunil,
I've a similar situation where I'm trying to insert Java objects in db using bulk insert. My issue is with performance for which I've created a new thread.
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5270260&tstart=30
I ran into your code and looked into it. You've used the Person object array and directly passing it to the oracle.sql.ARRAY constructor. Just curios if this works, cos my understanding is that you need to create a oracle.sql.STRUCT out of ur java object collection and pass it to the ARRAY constructor. I tried ur way but got this runtime exception.
java.sql.SQLException: Fail to convert to internal representation: JavaBulkInsertNew$Option@10bbf9e
at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:112)
at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:146)

at oracle.jdbc.oracore.OracleTypeADT.toDatumArray(OracleTypeADT.java:274)
at oracle.jdbc.oracore.OracleTypeUPT.toDatumArray(OracleTypeUPT.java:115)
at oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor.toOracleArray(ArrayDescriptor.java:1314)
at oracle.sql.ARRAY.<init>(ARRAY.java:152)
at JavaBulkInsertNew.main(JavaBulkInsertNew.java:76)
Here's a code snippet I used :
Object optionVal[] = {optionArr[0]}; // optionArr[0] is an Option object which has three properties
oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor empArrayDescriptor = oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("TT_EMP_TEST",conn);
ARRAY empArray = new ARRAY(empArrayDescriptor,conn,optionVal);If you visit my thread, u'll see that I'm using STRUCT and then pass it to the ARRAY constructor, which works well, except for the performance issue.
I'll appreciate if you can provide some information.

Sending a mail from oracle database
Hi,
I have a requirement to send a mail from oracle database.I use UTL_TCP package for this.Although my procedure is executed successfully,i dont get the mails in my inbox.Please help me to figure out a solution.
Thanks in advance....Hi, you must use UTL_SMTP package for send emails, it has more performance and features for debug. You must look the next code, this is a example for send emails.
DECLARE
c UTL_SMTP.CONNECTION;
PROCEDURE send_header(name IN VARCHAR2, header IN VARCHAR2) AS
BEGIN
UTL_SMTP.WRITE_DATA(c, name || ': ' || header || UTL_TCP.CRLF);
END;
BEGIN
c := UTL_SMTP.OPEN_CONNECTION('smtp-server.acme.com');
UTL_SMTP.HELO(c, 'foo.com');
UTL_SMTP.MAIL(c, '[email protected]');
UTL_SMTP.RCPT(c, '[email protected]');
UTL_SMTP.OPEN_DATA(c);
send_header('From', '"Sender" <[email protected]>');
send_header('To', '"Recipient" <[email protected]>');
send_header('Subject', 'Hello');
UTL_SMTP.WRITE_DATA(c, UTL_TCP.CRLF || 'Hello, world!');
UTL_SMTP.CLOSE_DATA(c);
UTL_SMTP.QUIT(c);
EXCEPTION
WHEN utl_smtp.transient_error OR utl_smtp.permanent_error THEN
BEGIN
UTL_SMTP.QUIT(c);
EXCEPTION
WHEN UTL_SMTP.TRANSIENT_ERROR OR UTL_SMTP.PERMANENT_ERROR THEN
NULL; -- When the SMTP server is down or unavailable, we don't have
-- a connection to the server. The QUIT call will raise an
-- exception that we can ignore.
END;
raise_application_error(-20000,
'Failed to send mail due to the following error: ' || sqlerrm);
END;
Also review the next link for get more information about the UTL_SMTP packege.

How to customize an existing OAF page from Oracle, change it and reload it
Hello all Oracle Developers,
I am having a question regarding to customization, basically I am going to follow a very simple example.
We have form: APXVDMVD and OAF web Page AP_APXVDMVD.
Applying all our custom code via forms personnalisation is piece of cake. However trying to apply the same code to OAF web Page AP_APXVDMVD
is a total back box for us.
The basic example seems like this: Suppose that in the Suppliers/Vendors Page we type the supplier name and then right after that we populate in consequence all the fields:
Taxpayer ID, Tax Registration Number, DUNS Number
We want to grab the OAF Web page from oracle apply the custom code in java code or whatever necessary to make it work and deploy it onto the server.
Is this achievable, if so how we can do it??? Can we grab the web page extend the classes that are necessary and deploy the solution. The demo provided from Oracle
is showing how to create pages from zero, however Oracle have not provided how to grab an existing applications page, put the code and the deploy it
Let me know any inputs, whatever you did and surely we will be sharing the same stuff all migration R12 long :-)Hi,
You can extend OA framework pages and customize them. There is also a section for customizations in the OA Framework Developer's guide. IF this requires extensive customizations, Iwould advice to be very careful as any extensions should not interfere with the base logic of the pages. Please post here if you need more details.
The following blog is a good one for some examples.
http://oracle.anilpassi.com/oa-framework-extending-controller-steps-2.html
There is also a course for the same if you are interested.

Hope this helps.. -
Sending email from Oracle Forms with attachments
Hi,
Is there any package or option available in Oracle forms to send email with attachments?
Your reply will be highly appreciated.
Regds,
nonedaThere are a couple of ways to send email (with attachements) from Oracle Forms. Check out these links to some examples.
using OLE2 or CLIENT_OLE2 to access a mail-client via Mail-Api ( Get and set Outlook properties )
using MAILTO in conjunction with HOST or CLIENT_HOST to "start" a mail-client ( Re: Open Microsoft Outlook new massage with TO containing the email address )
using UTL_SMTP for database-side-mailing ( Re: Send mail with attachment )
Hope this helps,
Craig... -
Dear member & developers
I want to send e mail from oracle application. If anybody knows, how to do this. please write or send a sample application or forms or database sql. I don't restricted to any application version like 10g or 11g same as database...
I seriously need it.
Thanks in Advanced.As Francois indicated - there are multiple examples around the internet and in the forums. Any email solution you choose is going to require that you have access to a valid email server (SMTP, POP3, etc). Also, the solution is dependent on "Where" you want to send the email from. I prefer a database solution because this makes it available to your entire database application, but you can use a Java email method (using Forms PJC or Java Bean) or you can OLE link to Microsoft Outlook.
Take a look at Send Email from the Database. I wrote this package based on the DEMO_MAIL package provided by Oracle (via OTN) and stream line things a bit. There is an example of how to use the package in the article.
Take a look at Send email with HTML body and local file attachements article on Franscois's web site for an example of sending email from an Oracle Form using Java.
If you need to use Outlook - search the forum. I don't consider this to be a reasonable method so I don't use it or recommend it. I'm sure it works fine for others, I just think being dependent on a application installed on the client is not a solid solution. That's just my opinion. ;-)
I search through out the net. Didn't get any tutorial video or any working materiel. I disagree with this statement - I did a quick Google search and found many examples (no videos) and demo's.
Hope this helps,
Craig B-)

Sending email through a public folder from Oracle forms 6i
Hi,
I have read a lot about this topic but still can't seem to figure out how to send a email from a public folder that I have access to. I am logged on as myself into Outlook and I have access to a public folder. When I send a email with attachments to a client it MUST show the public folder email address as the "FROM'. How can I get outlook to stop defaulting to my email? I have the proper rights and so forth meaing I can send a test email logged onto this folder and user cc,bcc, BUT not the FROM field.
Here is my code:
Declare
objOutlook OLE2.OBJ_TYPE;
objMail OLE2.OBJ_TYPE;
objArg OLE2.LIST_TYPE;
objArg2 OLE2.LIST_TYPE;
objAttach OLE2.OBJ_TYPE;
nameSpace OLE2.OBJ_TYPE;
args OLE2.LIST_TYPE;
BEGIN
objOutlook := OLE2.CREATE_OBJ('Outlook.Application');
args:=OLE2.create_arglist;
OLE2.add_arg(args,'MAPI');
nameSpace:=ole2.invoke_obj(objOutlook,'getNameSpace',args);
OLE2.destroy_arglist(args);
OLE2.invoke(nameSpace,'Logon');
objarg := OLE2.CREATE_ARGLIST;
OLE2.ADD_ARG(objarg,0);
objMail := OLE2.INVOKE_OBJ(objOutlook,'CreateItem', objarg);
OLE2.DESTROY_ARGLIST(objarg);
objAttach := OLE2.GET_OBJ_PROPERTY(objmail, 'Attachments');
objarg := OLE2.CREATE_ARGLIST;
OLE2.ADD_ARG(objarg,'c:\Jan28.txt');
objarg2 := OLE2.CREATE_ARGLIST;
OLE2.ADD_ARG(objarg2,'c:\2011_1.pdf'); -- filename
OLE2.SET_PROPERTY(objmail,'FROM','[email protected]');
OLE2.SET_PROPERTY(objmail,'To','[email protected]');
OLE2.SET_PROPERTY(objmail,'Bcc','[email protected]');
OLE2.SET_PROPERTY(objmail,'Subject','Email sent from Oracle Forms 6i');
OLE2.SET_PROPERTY(objmail,'Body','Testing email FROM');
OLE2.INVOKE(objattach, 'Add', objarg);
OLE2.INVOKE(objattach, 'Add', objarg2);
OLE2.INVOKE(objmail,'Send');
OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ(objmail);
OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ(nameSpace);
OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ(objOutlook);
OLE2.DESTROY_ARGLIST(objarg);
END;
Please let me know why OLE2.SET_PROPERTY(objmail,'FROM','[email protected]');
does not work. And how I can get it to work?
Any suggestions much appreciated...You can send emails using the utl_smtp package. There are many examples in the pl/sql forum, or on http://asktom.oracle.com.

Manually Migrating from Oracle 10g to 11g
Hello, I'm currently a student in an Oracle DBA class. I'm totally new to the Oracle world.
One of our final assignments concerns upgrading Oracle instances without the use of DBUA.
I've currently got Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 and am trying to upgrade to 11.1.0.7.0
This is all inside of VirtualBox, running Windows Server 2008. I've been using 10g with absolutely no issues for the duration of this class.
I successfully installed 11g, choosing to install the software only and not use dbua.
I changed my environment variables to point towards the 10g installation; ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, PATH, and LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
Then logged into 10g's SQLPlus and ran utlu111i.sql, which ran successfully. I issued a shutdown immediate and exited SQLPlus.
Changed my environment variables to point towards the 11g home and set ORACLE_SID as the 10g database name. I was able to log into 11g's SQL plus, was told I was connected to an idle instance, which I expected. I issued a startup upgrade command, and then attempted to run catupgrd.sql, but got an error stating that I had to run the script from 11g.
If I don't set the environment variables then when I try to log into 11g's sqlplus, I get an ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error... I've tried reinstalling 11g from scratch, but to no avail. My instructor and I have been emailing back and forth frequently over the past few days but we have not been able to reach a solution, so I thought I would see if I could pick your brains.
Here's all of the terminal output from the process:

With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
Your instance is started from the 10g ORACLE_HOME. You mentioned you started it from the 11g ORACLE_HOME but it's not the case.
Here is an example with a 10gR2 database started from a 11gR2 ORACLE_HOME :
SQL> startup upgrade pfile =/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/initP102.ora
ORA-32006: BACKGROUND_DUMP_DEST initialization parameter has been deprecated
ORA-32006: USER_DUMP_DEST initialization parameter has been deprecated
ORACLE instance started.

With the Partitioning, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing optionsNotice the Disconnected from Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 part.
In your case it was Disconnected from Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0
To solve the issue follow the official documentation, you have specific actions with oradim etc. to do (it's always a bit more complicated than with Unix/Linux but it's documented) :
