UTL_TCP problem on Novell
I'm trying to connect to smtp server like this:
mail_con := utl_tcp.open_connection('mailserver', 25);
Everything is ok on Solaris, Windows NT but there is a problem on Novell Netware 5.1. When I try to execute this command, I get following:
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-20002: mailserver
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_TCP", line 202
Ping, traceroute to mailserver from Netware are successful, there is no proxy between servers. RDBMS version 8.1.6.1.2.
What's wrong?
Oh.. sorry - too many pressure: has logged on as sysdba and gave the rights.
Works ok now...

Mail problem accessing Novell POP server
This one is both complicated and puzzling, and I sure would appreciate a solution.
We use Novell Groupwise for email. It allows both POP and IMAP access.
Two weeks ago, I stopped being able to access mail from the servers using either POP or IMAP from both home and office. Simultaneously, almost. At home I was using Mail, at the office Eudora.
After the usual tinkering, I got both home and office working with Mail through POP. That lasted a few days.
Yesterday, POP stopped working at the office. Then, at one point, it worked, and the day's mail came in all at once. Then it stopped working. I went home. I got a lot of mail when I checked in. Then it stopped. Today, I've gotten no mail at the office from the POP server.
Mail is communicating with the server. When I put the wrong password in, it lets me know it was not accepted. I don't get that message with the right password.
My IT people say the mail server is functioning properly, and that no one else who uses Mail is having similar problems. I've checked all the settings, and they are as they should be.
I recently upgraded to 10.4.1.11.
Does this sound like a problem anyone has seen before? Thanks to infinite vortex. Changing the frequency from five to fifteen minutes seems to have solved the problem, at least so far. Curious--but not surprising--that I could find nothing about such a limit anywhere on Cox's web site, nor was this mentioned by their tech support in a series of exchanges trying to resolve the problem.

MS6378 V3 problems with Novell
I have about 150 systems with a 6378 version 3. Running Windows 98 and Novell Client ver 3.31. Their server automatically pushes down Novell Client 3.32 SP1 to the user machine and it will cause the user machine to hang on restart and not go any further. Now if they disable the onboard LAN and put in an Intel NIC everything works just fine. Anyone know of any Novell issues with this motherboard and onboard LAN?
Dave
?(Hello Ensemble, there are not any documented issues with the routers locking up or UI issues. On all products, of course there is a bad apple here and there.
When you do have a router acting up, try to document the following;
How long has it been working?
Were there any network changes?
Has there been any complaints of odd behavior such as IP conflict errors, DNS issues, sluggish network traffic, etc
Any inclement weather or power issues such as T-Storm, blackout, brownout, surges, etc.
Check the history of the install location, did you have such problems at this site more than once?
In addition, a few things to do to the router;
Factory reset the unit, holding reset for 30 seconds
Upgrade / flash to the latest firmware release
Factory reset the unit after a firmware upgrade/flash
Try different internet browsers, such as IE 9 (compatibility view), Chrome, Firefox
Switch to a different computer, sometimes computers have so much cache, win catalog or DNS Flush issue
Verify you have a correct power adapter / power source, under volting the unit gives exactly the behavior you describe
I hope this helps out some. If you're running in to a large number of these routers having issues, it may be a localized issue. -
Novell seems to be very slow on DataInputStream
Hi,
can somebody confirm this?
I wrote a java program that reads about 2-3 MB of data from a DataInputStream and this takes about 20-30 times of a read from a local HDD AND even from a Samba Server.
Local: about 7 seconds
Samba: even about 7 seconds
Novel: more than a minute
Can this be a configuration problem on Novell File System / Blocksize?
Thanks
DominikMaybe a Novell drive is more sensitive to the presence or the absence of appropriate buffering, than a local or a SAMBA drive.
Do you apply appropriate buffering? -
Moving from Novell Zenworks to Windows Server 2008 domain
I am trying to find ways to automate the process of moving between a Novell Zenworks environment to a server 2008 domain. The first problem to my understanding is changing the names of the machines to legal values in our Windows XP Pro Clients. They are currently mostly named, cata_rm#_computer# (where # is a defined value set manually). To my understanding underscore _ is an invalid character for joining a domain so we want to have an automated script that can easily be deployed over the network to basically replace all "_"with "-". Is this necessary or can this issue be handled easier ****her down the road on moving to a windows domain?
We would then like to be able to deliver a payload via zenworks that will cause all of Novell and Zenworks to be removed from the computer and once that is complete add the computer to the new windows domain. Ideally the payload could be easily run from a network share or flash drive as well. Unattended installers may be available for this software suite but we would want to combine the uninstall process with adding the domain so we can move from our poor zenworks domain to a windows domain without ever touching most of our machines.
This is not my project but I am interested in learning how this process could be completed as painlessly as possible hopefully learning something along the way. Anything from links to guides on where to get started looking to more developed solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.None the less the beginning of my problem, removing Novell is a Novell issue. Thankfully I have figured out most of the removal of novell and zenworks already, now just working on fixing the client names and joining the windows AD domain.

CS4, Windows 7 (64bit) & Novell
A new Install of CS4 InDesign on a new Windows 7 (64bit) Enterprise desktop, running Novell directory. Files open fine in preview mode, then a few seconds later the file link is broken and the file temporarily gets a modify date of 31st December 1999. It then reverts back to the correct date but by then the link is broken. It does this over and over again even if manually corrected. This only happens on files located on a the file server and not local files - so the assumption is a conflict of permissions but can't think what. Windows machine, CS4 and Novell have all got the most current patches and updates. Any ideas what we need to tweak?
Just to let you all know - we have reported the problem to Novell and they are running diagnostics at the moment to try and find a solution / patch. If we get anywhere with it I will post the answer here.

Locking problems accessing applications on a network drive post upgrade
I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and JDeveloper 11.1.2.0.0
After the upgrade, every time I open an application on a network drive and navigate into one of the projects, I get the following error.
SEVERE: Unable to open environment /H:/dev/wssEmployer_6-22/.data/
com.sleepycat.je.EnvironmentLockedException: (JE 3.3.98) A je.lck file exists in H:\dev\wssEmployer_6-22\.data\00000019 The environment can not be locked for single writer access.Any information I find on the forums regarding this package involves using it in development. Has anyone else seen this? Is there something I have to do on my machine or network to make this work?
ThanksActually, it seems to have been a problem with Novell for some reason. Our sys admin created a new network drive to store the working copy on, and this error stops. Thanks for the reply though.

Will Xsan connect to Novell Netware from Mac?
Will Xsan connecto Novell Netware? I recently was able to connect to Novell using Snow Leopard and since upgrading to Lion can no longer connect to the Novell.
Need to be able to get this working and have tried different methods but not successful.
Please help.Xsan is just a filesystem. It doesn't connect to Novell. I take it you are having problems binding a Lion client to a Novell directory server, correct? If so, that's a problem between Novell and the Mac's Open Directory client.

Basic stuff first, as this ofte nis a problem: YOu *are* running
novell-named, *not* named, yes?
The usual cause for forwarding not happening is missing/corrupt
rootserverinfo zone. Please check or post your dns server logs.

Java 1.6 u38 stopps working on Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server
Hello,
I have got a strange behavior on our Terminal Server Farm. We have updated our Servers to Windows 2008 R2. Java 1.6 u38 runs fine, but it stops working suddenly.
Reinstall solves the Problem, but only for several hours. Then some users are not able to use Java from Internet Explorer or direct starting JNLP Applications.
Java starts, but nothing happens. You can see the Java6 Startup Windows with the dots running and thats all.
Admin Users are ables to use Java and some "normal" Users are able, too. After reinstall all user are able to use Java. Next day all servers from our RDS Farm are falling out again.
No eventlog entries or anti-virus entires are present.
Does anybody have an idea whats going on here?
best regards,

Hi
We are running NW65 SP8, eDir version 8.7.3.10 and are waiting to go to eDir 8.8 SP5.
We upgraded our GroupWise recently to version 8 and have had a few problems where Novell released a patch and most of these problems have now gone. Yet we are still getting servers going down to the debug screen with nothing whatsoever in the Abend logs. Apart from one that was written this morning below. Does anyone know the cause or has come across anything similar to know where the problem lies?
Many thanks in advance.

PKI.NLM Novell Certificate ServerOriginally Posted by akeaveney
I can't speak to your other servers. Type "?" at the console, then .a ( period a ) to dump the abend / break reason, then .r to display running process info. The .S lists screens and V command will display the server screens at the time of death. This can be very relevant. DDS dumps the stack ( as above ).
Check to see if you have SET Developer Option = ON or similar non-production options that will result in abends dropping into the debugger. There is no reason for the server to spontaneously drop into the debugger unless directed to do so by badly chosen debugging options, running debug versions of code which are designed to do this, or a developer with an impulse control issues.

!! not find the solution to trusted this certificate for all user !!
- Access without problem on Novell Kanka for Mac on address https://192.168.13.48:3089 and configuration is ok
- Can not access on Kanaka Directory Services, error:
There was an unknown error communicating with the Kanaka Server (cgcs-oes11.cgcs.de); Result = -14987.
- Can not configure snap-in !!
- Can not use kanaka client !!
thanks for helpMake sure you have the certificate in the SYSTEM keychain, not the login keychain. If it is in both, the login will override, so be sure it is ONLY in the SYSTEM keychain. Ensure that it says "Root certificate authority" and "This certificate is marked as trusted for all users." If it says it is valid for this account, you have it in the wrong place. You will generally have to reboot after you have imported it.

Rights Authentication Failed, Ticket expired
Hello,
I'm getting an error on remote control with rights to an pc.
ZCM 10.3 and Windows XP SP3.
The error is:
Rights Authentication Failed. The ticket has expired. if the connection was initiated from the managed device, close the Remote Management Listener, launch it again and retry. If this does not resolve the problem, contact Novell Technical Services.
Anyone who knows a fix for this?Note: It may take over-night for the issues to fix themselves.
There is a Time Sync Status marker stored in the DB that is only started
over-night.
Once things are in Sync Today, you may want to try Remote Controlling
from both of your servers. One may work while the other does not, until
the flag is updated in the DB.

Unable to set up secondary domain on OES11 server
Ok, I admit I'm fairly easy to confuse, but...
How can I access NSS volumes on an OES11 server from the server's desktop?
I'm setting up a new secondary domain for webaccess on an OES11 server.
When I set up the domain in C1 from my Windows computer, my only choice for the location of the domain files is the NSS volume on the server.
The Linux-based installation process for the agents, however, cannot see the NSS volumes.
As such, I cannot specify the location of the domain database file.
What's a body to do?Originally Posted by magic31
The default path for NSS volumes on OES Linux is under /media/nss.
Configuring the agents (the GroupWise install script bit) for the domain you created can be done by pointing to /media/nss/[your NSS volume]/[path to GroupWise domain].
Cheers,
Willem
Thanks for the quick reply, Willem.
Unfortunately, when I supply that path, the installation process says it doesn't exist.
The Linux installation interface allows me to browse as far as /media/nss, but manually supplying the rest of the path gives the same result.
The server name is gw8mail and the domain files are located on the sys volume in a folder labeled "8dom".
C1 identifies the volume as "gw8mail_SYS".
So for the path, I've tried "/media/nss/sys/8dom", "/media/nss/SYS/8dom", and"/media/nss/gw8mail_SYS/8dom", all without success.
I fully recognize that this is only indirectly a GroupWise problem, but Novell provides no explicit documentation with regard to setting up components on their current platform of choice.
This makes it very frustrating for those of us who are not well-versed in the SUSE world, but recognize the need to move off of NetWare.
Our only other alternative is running the system on a Windows platform.
From what I've read, you give up some performance if you go that route, but if Novell can't be bothered to provide comprehensive documentation, it leaves little choice for those of us not yet up-to speed on Linux.
