Table Maintainence generator Error Special Character '_' in generic key
Hello,
I have created a Table which contain 6 fields. All the fields of the table are primary key. The combined length of all the primary key is 163 characters. In the activation Log of the table we have a warning message which states "Key length > 120 (Restricted functionality)". Initially we are able maintain the entries using SM30. BUt now when we are making the entreis in the table an error message comes. The error is Special character "_" in generic key.and we are not able to save the entries.
I have deleted the table maintainence generator and have regenerated it. But the same error is coming.
Please provide your suggestion.

Creation of Table Maintainence Generator for Standard table
Hi,
I need to create a table maintainence generator for a standard SAP table.
The end user need have to delete certain entries from the table.
Is it viable to go for a table maintaninence generator or go for program which will delete the entry from the standard SAP table.
Which is the best method to go.

In the table maintenance generator screen, we should give Authorization Group, Function Group name (Function Group name can be same as table name), Maintenance type can be one step or two step, usually we will create with one step. we should give maintenance screen number. After clicking on create button, a table maintenance generator will be created.
To check it go to SM30 . In SM30, we find display, Maintain options.
We can view the table contents by choosing Display and we can create table entries by choosing Maintain.
Why we have to go for Table maintenance generator, when we can edit the table by SE16 or SE11, utilities->create entries?
In the production system, end-users will not be having access to transaction codes like SE11 and SE16. Developers will not be having access to many transaction codes including the above two.
To view the contents of the database table, we will use SE16n in Production system. Please find out the difference between SE16 and SE16n.All these authorizations will be maintained by BASIS team, by creating access profiles.
So in order to edit or create the contents of a database table, we should go for table maintenance generator. In real time, authorizations will be maintained in production system. (even in development and Test systems to some extent).
There is an audit like Sarbanes-Oxley Act for American clients, where every thing will be audited by government agency. To know more about SOX, use the links on the right hand side of this page.
The second reason is, we can edit or create multiple entries at a time, using table maintenance generator.
Apart from that we have options like 'Enter conditions' in table maintenance screen SM30. Please try to find out the use of those, by creating an example.Table Maintenance generator: Difference between one step and two steps.
While creating table maintenance generator, we find below options:
1. When we choose one step, we have to give the screen number in Overview Screen field.
2. When we choose two step, we have to give both overview screen number and single screen number.
You can give any number for screen. Dont give 1000 screen number. As this number is reserved for selection screen.
When we choose two step, two screens will be created for table maintenance. For single step only one screen will be created.
When we choose two step, table maintenance will work as follows:
Go to SM30, give the table name for which you have created table maintenance-
Overview screen will be displayed. To create entries, when you click on new entries.
Another screen will be displayed, where you give input and save.
You can enter one record at a time.
We use single step generally, as it is user friendly.
To completely understand the difference and above points please do exercise by creating table maintenance generator in both ways (using single step and two step).

Table Maintenance is used to maintain the values of a custom table.It is not required for all the tables.It is required only in those tables where you give the option to the end user to maintain the table data.Based on your requirements,you may want to change or add/delete the contents of your table.The procedure for table maintenance is:
1)Go to se11 and type the table name in Display or change mode.
2)Using the menu path Utilities -> Table Maintenance Generator .Table maintenance is generated.
3)To be able to maintain your table using a transaction(using a transaction for table maintenance dialog),you need to do the following.
Create a new transaction of the type Parameter Transaction from SE93, specifying SM31 as the transaction.
The VIEWNAME parameter is set to your table name with the option Skip initial Screen set.
The UPDATE parameter is set to value X.

I am uploading records into the table, and it so happened that an incorrect record full of text data was there in theinput file, it got uploaded along with the records,
hence I need to modify the code to check for such data -it is text data.
I have an 'empid' field (only numbers). I used that field to check for numeric data some thing like this...
if itab-empid+0(1) between '0' and '1'.
move-corresponding itab to DTABLE.
APPEND DTABLE.
else.
continue.
endif.
it is not working, throwing a short dump.
is there a better way to validate this? All I am doing is if empid field has any text data do not read into the internal table.

With the help of the table maintenance generator, you are able to maintain the ENTRIES of the table in SM30 transaction.
It can be set in transaction SE11 - Tools - Table maintenance generator.
Table maintanance Generator is used to manually input values using transaction sm30
follow below steps
1) go to se11 check table maintanance check box under attributes tab
2) utilities-table maintanance Generator-> create function group and assign it under
function group input box. Also assign authorization group default &NC& .
3) select standard recording routine radio in table table mainitainence generator to move table
contents to quality and production by assigning it to request.
4) select maintaience type as single step.
5) maintainence screen as system generated numbers this dialog box appears when you click on create button
6) save and activate table
One step, two step in Table Maintenance Generator
Single step: Only overview screen is created i.e. the Table Maintenance Program will have only one screen where you can add, delete or edit records.
Two step: Two screens namely the overview screen and Single screen are created. The user can see the key fields in the first screen and can further go on to edit further details.
SM30 is used for table maintenance(addition or deletion of records),
For all the tables in SE11 for which Table maintenance is selected , they can be maintained in SM30
Sm30 is used to maintain the table ,i.e to delete ,insert or modify the field values and all..
It creates the maintenance screen for u for the aprticular table as the maintenance is not allowed for the table..
In the SE11 delivery and maintenance tab, keep the maintenance allowed..
Then come to the SM30 and then enter the table name and press maintain..,
Give the authorization group if necessary and give the function group and then select maintenance type as one step and give the screen numbers as system specified..
Then create,,,
Then u will able to see the maintenance view for the table in which u can able to insert and delete the table values...
We use SM30 transaction for entering values into any DB table.
First we create a table in SE11 and create the table maintenance generator for that Table using (utilities-> table maintenance generator) and create it.
Then it will create a View.
After that from SM30, enter the table name and Maintain, create new entries, change the existing entries for that table.

i just explained how i have done it.
i just simply gone into Debug mode. there
code = Dele.
i have given. then i came out from debug mode to Table. there i just got Delete button on application tool bar.
i selected the record then icliked on Delete button.
it is got deleted.
But it is not asking for any new Transport Request.

How to proces the record in Table with multiple threads using Pl/Sql & Java
I have a table containing millions of records in it; and numbers of records also keep on increasing because of a high speed process populating this table.
I want to process this table using multiple threads of java. But the condition is that each records should process only once by any of the thread. And after processing I need to delete that record from the table.
Here is what I am thinking. I will put the code to process the records in PL/SQL procedure and call it by multiple threads of Java to make the processing concurrent.

.....................} -------------> PL/SQL Procedure to process and delete Records ------> <<<Table >>>
Java Thread.n }
But the problem is how can I restrict a record not to pick by another thread while processing(So it should not processed multiple times) ?
I am very much familiar with PL/SQL code. Only issue I am facing is How to fetch/process/delete the record only once.
I can change the structure of table to add any new column if needed.

By bucket I mean if you can make multiple buckets of your data to be processed so that each bucket contains the different rows and then call the PLSQL process in parallel.
Lets say there is a column create_date and processed_flag in your table.
Your PLSQL code should take 2 parameters start_date and end_date.
Now if you want to process data say between 01-Jan to 06-Jan, a wrapper program should first create 6 buckets each of one day and then call PLSQL proc in parallel for these 6 different buckets.

Lead Selection to be disabled for some of the records in Table

I have 5 records in table .User shouldn't be allowed to select four rows thosse four rows should be in disable mode just for display purpose.Only one Row must be allowed to select(lead select).

Probably you might have tried the following.
Bind OnLeadSelect event to some action.
And in that action method write the code to fetch selected lead and check if it is 0(first row) else set leadselection to 0

With this code the user can not select any of the rows other than first.

Putting Validations in the event of table maintainance generator
Hi All,
I have one table with 4 fields. 3 are key fields. Now requirement is to put a perticular error message in the maintainance screen, when the combination of field1, and field2 is used more than once .
Currently I am getting the inbuilt error message that entry already present with the same key value.
I want to put my own error message instead.
I tried to put the code in event 05--(Creating new entry) . But the problem is that here it doesnot differentiate between, new , entry, changed entry and unchanged entry. So what ever thing I do...the error message is coming .This is to state that , in this case in the event 05, <action> is not having any value...that we can use for differentiation.
Is there any way...thru which we can put this error message only for new entries...?

u need to loop the generic table TOTAL and chek which kind of action is aasigned to certain record:
LOOP AT TOTAL.
CHECK <ACTION> = NEUER_EINTRAG.
*-------> New record
READ TABLE EXTRACT WITH KEY TOTAL.

The value stored in <ACTION> indicates if the record is new or changed

Unselecting the records of table
Hi,
We have an OAF page. We have a classic table which has multiple selection property. When we click on search button, this table gets populated and by default all the records gets selected.
Our requirement is, when we click on search button, all the records to which are displayed on the table should be "unselected".
Please let me know, if we can achieve this.

null as Select_Attribute
This would make sure that the select attribute is always null when returned from the query.
