Validating IP address

I need to validate an IP address through a Develop 6i Forms application.
Rules are:
1. w.x.y.z where w, x, y and Z between 0-255
2. Their has to be a valid format
of type w.x.y.z where w,x,y and z
are all integers.
Are there any built-in functions to perform such checks. If any one has created such a
function, can you share the information.
null

OK... I'm not getting drawn into a war on this. I will just point out that RFC790 is about Assigned Numbers and doesn't say how an IP address MUST be formatted. It does mention that IP addresses are 32 bits long and divided into network and local portions. It then goes on to say:
One notation for internet host addresses commonly used divides the 32-bit address into four 8-bit fields and specifies the value of each field as a decimal number with the fields separated by periods. For example, the internet address of ISIF is 010.020.000.052.
This notation will be used in the listing of assigned network numbers.
Notice that this is just one common notation and is the one that they select to represent address on the Assigned Numbers list.

    You might want to rethink your thoughts about making transferring authority easier.  Making it too easy would certainly degrade your account's security.  If you still believe it should be easier, you can send feedback directly to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
    You will not get a response, but you can be certain that the responsible Apple people will see your input for consideration in FaceTime product development.

    I can't set up my email on my ipod touch.  It keeps saying I have to use a valid email address for this account.  Help!

    Hi Annie,
    Make sure when you are setting up your e-mail account that you enter in your entire e-mail address.  If you have a Yahoo (includes any e-mail account associated with Yahoo), G-mail, or Aol after entering in your password it should automatically set up.  Any other e-mail address you will have to manually set the account up.

    It might be logical to someone, but not to me. I agree it's a pain.
    How did you change your Apple ID? Creating a new one is not what you want to do, but if you changed the ID associated with your purchases then that might have worked. You would need to sign in with the Apple ID on both your iPod Touch as well as in iTunes. I'm not sure how you changed it but clearly they need to match.
    If it's just your password that is not getting recognized reset it here: http://iforgot.apple.com/
    It will send an email confirmation to the email address associated with that Apple ID. The email address you elect to use might not look anything like your Apple ID. If you don't appear to get an email check your spam filter.

  • Airport Extreme does not have a valid IP address

    My Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11N (AEBS) no longer has an internet connection and I cannot share internet or even access the internet via an ethernet cable from the AEBS to my iMac unless in Bridge mode. I have a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core iMac running OS X 10.5.6. I also have an Airport Express (802.11b/g) currently offline.
    When I plug my ethernet cable directly into the iMac I've got a fast and reliable internet connection. I have also done 2 hard resets on my AEBS without any success. I have ensured that my cables are properly plugged in and had it checked by another person.
    I do not have a specific IP address from my Internet Service Provider (ISP). I have contacted my ISP and have confirmed that there is nothing wrong on their end. I had an internet connection previously with "Using DHCP". Now when I select it blanks out the IP address box. I referred to my last working saved Airport setting and my AEBS still does not have an internet connection.
    I'm not sure what else I can do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    I'm having a similar problem. Saturday morning my Comcast Internet was gone. I went through all the steps to troubleshoot (powering everything down, checking connections, powering back up from outside, connecting directly to the cable modem via Ethernet, etc.). I only got a valid IP address for a brief few minutes when directly connected. Comcast swapped out my modem, but same issue. Then Sunday they said known problem in area. This morning I got on the line with a level 2 tech. We went through just about everything again, and I can connect very reliably via direct Ethernet connect to modem. If I unplug the ethernet and give it a minute to recognize its gone, ip address goes blank. When I plug it back in, it gets a valid IP address and Internet connects almost instantaneously.
    However, with my AEBS (n) I can't get a valid IP address. I use the exact same Ethernet cable from the cable modem the AEBS Internet WAN port. But it gives itself a self-assigned IP of 169.254... I've gone through the cycles of powering down and back up a couple of times, checked my connections several times, and reset my AEBS to factory defaults. Still no dice. Internet is set to DHCP and to share a public IP address (in the default 10.0.1.x ranges). Has my AEBS effectively lost its ability to get a valid IP from the modem? Is it dead? Anything you can think of that I can try?

  • Time Capsule does not have a valid IP address

    We have 2 computers in our home office: a Win 7 desktop and an iMac.
    We have cable internet; the cable modem (Toshiba PCX2500) is plugged (ethernet) directly into the Time Capsule, which we use as our router to the two computers (also by ethernet).
    The wireless functionality of the Time Capsule has been turned off.
    We’ve been using the Time Capsule like this for the past 18 months (we purchased it new) without any problems.
    Last month, however, we began losing our internet connection regularly (about 3-4 times per day) and getting the dreaded golden flashing light (as opposed to solid green) along with the error (paraphrasing here) “the Apple Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP address.”
    We hadn’t made any changes in our hardware; it just showed up out of the blue.
    After contacting our ISP, we were advised to unplug the cable modem for about 30 seconds, then plug it back it. Most of the time this worked; if not, we had to “cycle” the Time Capsule as well.
    We’re now having to do this about 4-5 times per day.
    Sometimes the Time Capsule’s status light is still green when we have no internet connection. Out of the blue the connection just isn’t there.
    We “cycle” the cable modem and we’re back in business every time.
    Additionally, when we actually do have an internet connection, the speeds fluctuate wildly. We’re paying for 15 Mb service; as of the past 4-5 weeks, we get 15Mb about 50% of the time. The other 50% it generally averages between 3Mb and 6Mb.
    The ISP’s tech support (we’ve contacted them no less than once a week since this started) swears up and down that it’s the router, not their signal or their equipment in any way. They deny all culpability.
    We even had the ISP’s repair people come out on an occasion about 10 days ago to test the signal strength; they reported no problems. “You’ve got great signal strength to your home…” were the exact words.
    Similarly, after calling Apple on 2-3 occasions, we get the exact same response: “It’s not the Time Capsule router, it’s your ISP.”
    The last Apple technician we spoke with (yesterday) said, “I’ve been doing wireless/Internet tech support for years and I can guarantee you – 100% -- that it’s a ‘DNS caching’ issue. I’m 100% positive that’s your problem, and I’m also 100% positive it’s your ISP’s fault.”
    After contacting the ISP again we were informed that they don’t have any such caching problems.
    We’re tired and frustrated! Please help.

    I would suggest running the network via a pc for the day.. pick either your Mac or win7 pc.. you will need to do a bit of fiddling.. even better would be to just borrow a router. Or buy one on a 7day return .. !! Beg borrow.. don't steal. Just get a router other than TC. it won't take long to determine if the TC is the issue.
    IMO at 18months you are suffering failure of the TC power supply. early days but it is showing signs of delinquency. And will get worse. But another router will show it up.. if the PC has dual ethernet cards you can run ICS.. or same sort of thing on the imac to the wireless .. ie the PC or Mac becomes the router with direct connection to the cable modem. Then share internet from there.
    Once you do that for a day or two, you will quickly be able to track down if the issue is cable service/modem or the TC as router.

  • Constant disconnects with "no PPPoE" and "no valid IP address" errors

    I have AT&T DSL and have an Airport Extreme connected to a Speedstream 4100 modem. My Internet connection has been fine for nearly a year with the AEBS but for the past couple weeks has been disconnecting so frequently that it's almost become useless. The problems reported by the AEBS are: PPPoE Server (no PPPoE server found) and Internet Connection (AEBS doesn't have a valid IP address). It's always these two problems reported.
    Restarting the AEBS gets me connected again, and sometimes the connection will come back on its own, but only for a short while. I don't know how to troubleshoot this. Help! Here are my AEBS settings:
    Radio Mode: Automatic
    Radio Channel Selection: Automatic
    Wireless Security: WPA2 Personal
    Use wide channels: Checked
    Create a closed network: Checked
    Use interface robustness: Unchecked

  • "" does not appear to be a valid email address. Verify the address and try again.

    I am getting this error whenever I copy an email address from somewhere and paste it into the 'To' field.
    “” does not appear to be a valid email address. Verify the address and try again.
    Whattup with that?
    Only way to get around it seems to be either typing the whole address in (uh!) or clicking on the email address and letting Mail create the new message. Both are not the way I need to do things and it used to work perfectly in Snow Leopard, as would be expected for such a basic sort of command.

    I had the same problem with multiple adressess:
    I used the " ; "  as a seperator.
    The message was sent with no trouble at all as soon as I used the " , " (comma) instead.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I get a valid IP address for airport express?

    I am trying to set up my airport express.  All the steps work fine except for when I get to the end it says I need a valid IP address for airport.  Any help would be appreciated.

    I'm not sure what you're trying to set up here? Are you trying to set up the AX to provide wireless access to the internet, or to extend an existing network?????

  • Cannot get a valid IP address for Airport

    I bought a fitness tracker which uses a USB device to wirelessly upload data.
    Since plugging it in and installing their software on my MacBook Pro, I can no longer obtain a valid IP address on either a broadcast wireless SSID or a non-broadcase secure (WPA2 Enterprise) wireless network.
    I deleted the fitness tracker device from the network configurations, deleted the Airport from Network and added it back and removed the SystemConfiguration folder from Library/Preferences, rebooted and still have the same problem.
    Does anyone have suggestions as to how I can get the Airport back to normal?
    I did contact tech support at the fitness device company on Friday, but no response yet.
    I really need to be able to use the wireless when mobile.

    It finally seems to be working.

  • Spry validation and validating email address?

    I've seen that spry can be used to validate forms. I have not
    seen an
    example of an email address or more complicated validating
    being done.
    Where's a good source for how to do this?

    Validating email addresses is not entirely possible. You can
    only validate
    the SYNTAX of an email address. This is best done server side
    rather than
    client side (or perhaps both ways) since validating only
    client side can be
    defeated by simply disabling javascript.
    I like the Spry validation, though, because it is EXTREMELY
    flexible and
    easy to use. David Powers has some very good discussions
    about Spry in his
    Dreamweaver CS3 with CSS. Ajax, and PHP book, as does David
    McFarland in his
    Dreamweaver CS3: The Missing Manual.

  • I have just updated my iphone4 and now I can't download any apps, its saying I need a valid US address?? any how much appreciated.

    Any helpful suggestions to explain why I can't download any apps will be appreciated.
    Its saying I need a valid US address I live in Australia? dont know why its asking that.

    You can only access the Store of that country your account is registered for. Did you buy the apps using the same account? If you have a billing address registered in Australia, you can't buy in the US Store.
    Can you update the apps in iTunes on your computer?
    Did you log into your iTunes account and check your info?

  • AirPort doesn't have a Valid IP Address after Moving

    After moving to a new apartment, I've been having a lot of trouble with my AirPort.
    At first, only my computer was able to connect, even though I kept getting warnings that it didn't have a valid IP address.  No other devises, including other computers, were able to connect.  Throughout this entire time, the airport light blinked yellow.  Then, all of a suddent, the airport light went solid green, and now I can't even connect wirelessly.  I've had a tech savy friend look at it, and I also tried a hard reset.  Nothing works.
    My building provides us with internet, including the Motorola modum (SBV5330 SURFboard) in my room.  Under networks, it says my SirPort is connected and has the IP address of 10.0.1.3.
    Can somebody help me?

    So your ISP has chosen to throw you into the "worst case" situation I mentioned above.  I don't know why ISPs do that.  If nothing else, it increases their support costs.
    He also convinced me to keep the linksys router stating that it was still an excellent device and unmatched in quality.  So, I guess I won't be changing to Airport! Any disagreement or benefit of the Airport over a linksys broadband router model wrt54gl v1.1 other than my being a fan of Apple products?
    I have no experience with Linksys equipment, but I suspect that it's no better or worse than most.  I also suspect that the support people at your ISP are guilty of recommending only what they know.
    If you already have that AirPort Extreme base station, I'd tell those people to stop jerking you around and update their configuration to let you use it.

  • Validating email address - please help?

    hi,
    i have registration form in jsf, and i have a field for an email address, i was wandering if anyone knows how to validate the email address, when this is submitted to a javabean, to make sure it is an actual valid email address and that both email addresses ( re-entered ) entered are the same.
    so what i really want is the javacode for the javabean that can validate the email address to make sure it is valid.
    any help is appreciated
    thanks.

    Here's how I did a Postal code validation:
    public void validatePostalCode(FacesContext context, UIComponent toValidate, java.lang.Object inputValue) throws
    ValidatorException {
    Pattern pattern;
    String expression = "\\D{1}\\d{1}\\D{1}\\d{1}\\D{1}\\d{1}"; // x9x9x9
    String value = null;
    try {
    value = inputValue.toString();
    pattern = Pattern.compile(expression);
    this.postalCodeValidationError = !pattern.matcher(value).matches();
    } catch (ClassCastException e) {
    throw new ValidatorException(
    new FacesMessage(
    "Validation Error: Value " +
    "cannot be converted to String.",
    null));
    if (this.postalCodeValidationError) {
    // Here you do what ever you want when the validation fails
    // Like generating an error in JSF ... see ValidatorException
    On your JSP page add "validator="#{yourBean.validatePostalCode}"" to your inputText tag.
    It would be a good idea to read on Java's regular expression stuff to fihure out the expression you need to pass to Pattern.compile(expression) in order to validate the email address.
    Hope this help. Cheers
