Validation Rules (Business Rules) documentation

Hello.
Can anyone share documentation on Validation Rules (business rules!!!)? I looked through How-Tos and help.sap.com but there no details on how validation rules work.
Thank you.

  • Business Validations Rule Priority

    Hi
We have a problem with business rules in ADF. we use JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0.4157
I will try to explain our problem!
We write some "method validations" as "attribute" and "entity" validation in MyEntityImpl.java
At each method validation we must send a query to the database and investigate something which causes the method validation to return true or false.
Assume that we have method validation number 1 to 5.
If validation number 2 returns false, we don't want the validations number 3,4 and 5 to run because it's time consuming
and not necessary. Even if validations 3,4 and 5 execute, we don't want to see error messages Of those validations.
I think that, we must have a priority level for our validation rules, indicating that if a validation with higher priority returns false, other validations that have lower priority don't execute or at least don't raise error message.
    I don't see such a mechanism but I think it's so important.
We use a temporary unconvincing solution with using this "getDBTransaction().setBundledExceptionMode(false)" method, but
it only causes don't show next validations message.
    Anyone can help us?
    regards.

    Hi,
    thanks Salim for your reply,
hasAttributeException(int) can solve one part of our problem (control to not evaluate entity validation if one of our attribute validations returns false), but how we can control the evaluation of entity validations? for example if we have 3 entity validations and one of them returns false, how we can force other entity validations not run?
    thanks

  • Passing values to the Validation Rule error message

    Hello
    Help me please
I have the following inquiry :
    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3
I am working on ADF and JSF environment
I have entity object called "Invoices"
and I have the following business rule
" Total purchases from any supplier should not exceed 5000 $ per month "
I am using a validation query to check for the purchases from
specific supplier and validate the Amount.
and I want the message for this validation rule to be :
" Total purchases for this supplier is X , you cannot purchase more than 5000 $ "
where X is variable depending on the supplier ?
I used to do this in Oracle Forms and PL-SQL
I want to generate messages like :
Total purchases for this supplier is 6500 , you cannot purchase more than 5000 $
Total purchases for this supplier is 5250 , you cannot purchase more than 5000 $
    ???

I think I have to make a custom rule bean

  • Validation rules applied to data migration templates at import

    Hi everyone!
First post here for me, so please bear with me if I missed something.
My company has just started the initial implementation of ByDesign. We come from a set of disparate and partially home-grown systems that we outgrew a few years ago.
As part of this initial phase, we are basically re-creating the data on customers, suppliers, etc. since none of our existing systems makes a good source, unfortunately. We will be using the XML templates provided by ByDesign itself to import the relevant data.
It has become clear that ByDesign applies validation rules on fields like postal codes (zip codes), states (for some countries), and other fields.
It would be really helpful if we could get access to the rules that are applied at import time, so that we can format the data correctly in advance, rather than having to play "trial and error" at import time. For example, if you import address data, the first time it finds a postal code in the Netherlands which is formatted as "1234AB", it will tell you that "there needs to a space in the 5th position, because it expects the format to be "1234 AB". At that point, you stop the import, go back to the template to fix all the Dutch postal codes, and try the import again, only to run into the next validation issue.
We work with a couple of very experienced German consultants to help us implement ByDesign, and I have put this question to them, but they are unaware of a documented set of validation rules for ByDesign. Which is why I ask the question here.
So just to be very celar on what we are looking for: the data validation/formatting rules that ByDesign enforces at the time the XML data migration templates are imported.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Best regards,
    Eelco

    Hello Eelco,
welcome to the SAP ByDesign Community Network!
The checks performed on postal codes are country specific, and represent pretty much the information that you would find in places like e.g. the "Postal Codes" page in Wikipedia.
I recommend to start with small files of 50-100 records that are assembled of a representative set of different records, in order to collect the validation rules that need reactions based on your data in an efficient way. Only once you have caught these generic data issues, I would proceed to larger files.
Personnaly I prefer to capture such generic work items on my list, then fix the small sample file immediately by editing, and do an immediate resimulation of the entire file, so that I can drill deeper and collect more generic issues of my data sample. Only after a while when I have harvested all learnings that were in my sample file, I would then apply the collected learnings to my actual data and create a new file - still not too large, in order to use my time efficiently.
    Best regards

  • Jbo Custom Validation Rules

I am having some difficulty in getting the UI component of a custom jbo validation rule to work correctly in JDeveloper. What I have so far is a working validation rule. I also have created a Java bean customizer class with a JPanel layout for the components. I see the JPanel in JDeveloper. Here is where I need a little help in the following areas:
    1. Getting the attributes of the entity that I am assigning the validation rule to.
    2. Writing out the correct XML, including any attributes from the bean so the bean will work correctly once the validation is used.
I see some methods like writeContents and writeChildren, but I am not sure when those methods get invoked.
So I am looking for some more documentation or examples of accomplishing my above goal. I have already looked through the ADF source code, but there are no Bean UI components that I could reference (unless I am looking in the wrong package).
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, is there anyone else doing anything remotely like I am attempting to do? Or this is another case of it is not supported?

  • How to apply validation rule for View Object (VO) attributes?

How to add Validation Rules to VO attributes, just like EO Business Rules?
I got 2 problem with that:
    1. VO can join multiple tables, and the attribute's validation rules may reference to the fields from multiple entities.
    2. Since the EO Validation Rules only execute before the data actually write to entity (Commit operation). But user may need to input data from multiple pages with only 1 commit.
I am using JDeveloper 11g with ADF BC.
    Regards,
    Samson Fu

Just something to point out, the EO validation doesn't fire on a commit (if you mean commit as in the database/AppModule commit). You can also access VO information from the EO validation rules by using view accessors.

  • Validation Rules, No data to validate

    Hello all,
I'm trying to setup the Business Rule "Validation Rules" in SAP BPC NW 7.0 but I'm getting a message that says NO DATA TO VALIDATE, I have done the configuration steps such:
    1. Add to the Entity Dim the correct OWNER.
2.In BPC WEB ADMIN I changed the WorkStatusValidate to "YES".
    3. I changed the Work Status Setting at application level, ith the next parameters:
         ENTIDAD---> owner
         TIEMPO---> yes
CATEGORIA--->yes,   and the other dimensions as NO
    4. I Changed The Work Status Setting at appset level too.
I have edited the Validation Rules as follows:
    VALIDATIONACCOUNT        REMARK          VALIDATIONOPERANT             VALIDATIONTOLERANCE
          REGLA1                          ACTIVO                          =                                                   0.01
When I click on Save without validate, there are no problems, but it is happenning When I Click on Validate Validation Rules Rule Table. Have you ever seen this error before?
    Thanks in advanced!
    REgards!

    Hi Miguel,
You are comparing work status and the validation rules. However, these 2 are completely different functionalities.
For maintaining validations, please take a look at the below links from help.sap:

  • Validation Rules problems

    Hello.
I've got some strange results for Validation Rules (business rules):
    1. When i ran this rule it didn't sum up account that was defined via dimension logic formula. It summed up base member accounts and parents account but didn't sum up accounts defined via dimension logic formula. Had anyone the same problem? Is it ok or not?
    2. When the number of account_r or account_l are different i receive error when validating rules: "Record ( Seq = 4 ): Field ACCOUNT_R value cannot be blank " and "Record ( Seq = 4 ): Field SUBTABLES_R value cannot be blank". Is it ok or not? As far as i know it works in BPC for MS.
Please, help to clarify what is right and wrong.

There are already some threads on this topic.
Unfortunately, they don't give solutions - not yet ;)

  • Validation rules in FDM

What are the common scenarios/requirements to write validation rules in FDM.
What kind and types of validation rules can be written in FDM.
Please share any kind of information.

a very common validation is that Balance sheet must balance after loading and consolidation.
There can be many other validations, based on your business requirements.

  • Custom validation rules

Using adf/bc with jdev 10.1.3.3. I've created a custom validation rule class according to the instructions in the adf guide. In that class, I've defined just one property, along with its getters/setters. I've registered my rule in the business component project and associated the rule to an entity attribute via the entity object editor. My problem is that I don't see any way for me to set the property/value of the property that's defined in the validation rule class. For example, in the SRDemo app, in the entity editor for ServiceRequest, if you highlight Validation in the left pane then select the AttributeMustExistInViewRowRule for the Status attribute and click the Edit button, you can set various property values that have been defined in the validation rule class. These values appear to then be updated to that entity's xml file. When I'm in my entity object editor and i've assigned a validation rule to an attribute, I can type in the error message text in the Edit Validation Rule dialog, but it says there are no properties to edit! I guess I haven't wired something together quite right? Note, I have not created the customizer and bean info classes for the design time aspect of this stuff. I assume that you do not absolutely need these classes to create and work with a customr validation rule? Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

ok, i figured out the problem. The property/value fields in the Edit Validation Rule dialog will not appear until you've actually compiled the custom validation rule class. I had tried to create the validation rule class, register it with the bc project, and assign it to an entity attribute all without first compiling the class. I stumbled upon this 'fix' in jdev's help, which leads me to another question. For the help topic entitled Creating Custom Declarative Validation Rules for Oracle ADF Business Components, the instructions have you create a class that implements JbiValidator and provide implementation for the method vetoableChange, from which you typically call validateValue. The adf guide's example has the custom validation rule class that extends AbstractValidator and implements JboValidatorInterface. In this example, you provide implementation for the validate method. What's the difference between these two approaches and when should I use one over the other? Thanks.

    Not able to prompt errors.
    Hi,
Your error message are not displaying because u does not made Message-Resoucrce property file (Resource Bundle) when you make it .
    give it entry in
    struts-config.xml
    <message-resources parameter="ApplicationResources" />
    and
define key and corresponding error message to key in this ApplicationResources i.e
    #Error Resources
    label.search.ssNum=Plz Enter correct ssNum

  • Validation Rule Error :Invalid Member Name In Lookup ({|0|}) value

We defined fdm validation rule as follows.
    |Actual, April, 2010, YTD, ENTITY CURRENCY, Mumbai, TotalAssets, [NONE], [NONE], [NONE], [NONE], [NONE]|-|Actual, April, 2010, YTD, ENTITY CURRENCY, Mumbai, TotalLiabilities, [NONE], [NONE], [NONE], [NONE], [NONE]|= 0
After testing the above rule definition, it gives below error message.
Err = Invalid Member Name In Lookup ({|0|}) value in ID indicates invalid member)
    Scenario: ACTUAL [1]
    Year: 2010 [2010]
    Period: APRIL [83886080]
    View: YTD [2]
    Entity: MUMBAI [7]
    Parent Entity: MUMBAI [7]
    Value: ENTITY CURRENCY [-1]
    Account: TOTALASSETS [150]
    ICP: [NONE] [-1]
    C1: [MISSING_VALUE] [-1]
    C2: [NONE] [0]

    C4: [NONE] [0]
    Lookup Error (2)
Err = Invalid Member Name In Lookup ({|0|}) value in ID indicates invalid member)

    C1: [MISSING_VALUE] [-1]
    C2: [NONE] [0]
    C3: [NONE] [0]
    C4: [NONE] [0]
Also we could see in the Expression after lookup substitution (scratch pad): we are getting 0-0=0.
    Please provide you inputs.

I have not looked closely, but C1 is showing as "Missing Value". Have you checked to see if [None] is a valid member for the account you have selected (TotalLiabilities)?
