Validation rules - long time of promotion

Hi guys,
We have verry big problem that we need to resolve as soon as possible.
On almost every form (we have about 100 of them) we have validation rules (on some even three or four rules).
Every rule checks some values on form, and do not let users to promote planning unit.
And now we are facing following problem: When user tries to promote the form, every validation rule is checked and it takes very long time (45 minutes today!)
We need to optimize this. What is the best option in sth like that? Can we increase some parameters to make this happen faster?
Please give some suggestions.
We use EPM 11.1.2.1.
Best regards,
Greg

Hi!
Unfortunatly adding VALIDATION_CACHE_SIZE parameter did not help (on form everything was set ok).
But we are a little bit closer now: the cause of the problem was validation rule called: Positive Values (it was checking if values in one column are positive).
Most of my forms have accounts in rows (lot of them - we have about 5000 account) but it is verry sparse (on one form we see only 100 of them - rest is empty and hidden). The valdiation rule was checking "if Current Cell Value < 0".
Can lot of rows and big blocks this be a root cause of the problem?
Best regards,
Greg

  • Your session is no longer valid. Log on again - no long time

Hi guys, I´m working with a CRM upgrade, and working with the e-commerce solution, when I transfer an item to the cart  2 or 3 seconds later the app gives me an error message like this "Your session is no longer valid. Log on again." I do not have access to NWA because administrative issues and already ask for logs but it will take long time. Were I can search the possible reasons for a close session if I do not have access to logs ? It seems to me, to be a configuration problem with the server, maybe the url .

  • ParNew (promotion failed)  and  long time stopped !

I use the latest JDK6u21 and I found a strange problem, the JVM will stop after 1 hours of my server start. after view the gc log, it said ParNew (promotion failed), but the memory is enough.
before promotion failed, I found the variable contiguous_available decreased to 3682040, but other case it is very big, and I used the "-XX:+UseCMSCompactAtFullCollection -XX:CMSFullGCsBeforeCompaction=2 " for CMS memory fragment...
anybody could give me a light? I am very appreciate for that!
*1. The following is my jvm parameter:*
    -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintGCApplicationConcurrentTime -XX:+PrintGCApplicationStoppedTime -XX:+UseMembar -XX:PrintCMSStatistics=3 -XX:+PrintCMSInitiationStatistics -XX:+PrintAdaptiveSizePolicy -XX:+PrintCompilation -XX:+PrintConcurrentLocks -XX:+PrintGCTaskTimeStamps -XX:+PrintSharedSpaces -XX:+PrintTenuringDistribution -XX:+PrintVMQWaitTime -XX:+PrintHeapAtGC -Xms10g -Xmx10g -Xmn1512m -XX:SurvivorRatio=6 -XX:MaxTenuringThreshold=2 -XX:ParallelGCThreads=15 -XX:MaxPermSize=96m -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=150 -XX:CMSAbortablePrecleanWaitMillis=100 -XX:ParallelCMSThreads=8 -XX:CMSInitiatingOccupancyFraction=65 -XX:+UseCMSInitiatingOccupancyOnly -XX:+UseCMSCompactAtFullCollection -XX:CMSFullGCsBeforeCompaction=2 -XX:GCTimeRatio=19 -Dsun.rmi.dgc.client.gcInterval=7200000 -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval=7200000 -XX:+UseFastAccessorMethods -XX:-UseFastEmptyMethods -XX:+UseFastJNIAccessors -Xnoclassgc -XX:+DisableExplicitGC
by the way, I had change the -Xmn to 512m, but same problem..

this jdk version is java version "1.6.0_20"

  • In P6 8.4 web client for loading Resource page takes long time

As per tested configuration of P6 EPPM 8.4 we are using IE 9 and JRE 1.7.0.67.
I had checked RAM and its utilization is Max 40%, CPU usage is also very less.
Enough disk space is also avaliable (70% avaliable).
Enteries in resources are also very few just 20 numbers.
Project page is loading normally. But for loading resource page it pause for almost 15-20 seconds.
Last week i had faced issue that application freezes while loading resource page so i had restarted application and it was working.
May i know, what will be reason to take long time to load resorce page and possible solution.

I am attching java console tracer log for while loading resource page..
    please check.

  • Bringing back an old password validation rule

    Good afternoon
On our old 4.6C system, there was a password validation rule that stated the first three characters of the password cannot occur in the same order in the user ID. This rule was removed when we upgraded to ECC 6.0
While the users hated that rule, that rule was a SOX requirement at our company and I would like to have it back. Before I resort to programming user exits, is there a way to reactivate or at least simulate that rule? I cannot use USR40 because not only does it effect all users on the system, it only works on the second logon and not at validation time.
If programming user exits like EXIT_SAPLSUSF_001 is my only option, where can I get the password at logon time? From my understanding, SAP does not store this in a system value or even a global variable or table to prevent the recording of passwords. While this is a valid security reason, it would solve the resurrection of this password role through programming.
    Please advise.
    Kind Regards
    Moggie

    Hi Moggie,
    > Pending the result of the contract programmer's research, placing a 3 character prefix of each new user ID in table USR40 is looking like the best option, though I do hate to place that kind of check for all user IDS when only one ID really needs that validation rule.
A problem with that will soon arise when you have for example 10000 user ID's and want the users to have the opportunity to use strong pass-phrases (not just pass-words). Additionally, the passwords are now case-sensitive but the user ID is not. A pass-phrase for users such as "The_D0g_&_Cat_r_FAT" would go undetected even if you have any "THERON's" in the system, but why should it not be allowed? It's a good one!
Users will soon notice that only passwords which are very cryptic can be used, and they will start writing them down on Post-It's.
While that is going on... the "real sinners" who dish out weak or the same initial / reset passwords (like "INIT1234") or administrate the users for whom passwords don't change (like "RFC4PROD") will not have any further "idiot-proof" controls as it is only a warning, which is intentional.
    > If the passwords are cycled regularly, adhere to profile values in the instance that encourage strict password rules, and are kept private and secure, it is not a compliance issue to the auditors.
    There you have it.
Tell them that. Even if they do use the first 3 bname characters as the first 3 CAPS_ON password characters, they won't be able to do it for long anyway if the password rules are appropriate...
Incase you are not aware of it, please also take a look at (and search here and SAP notes for) infos about instance parameter login/password_compliance_to_current_policy (e.g. SAP Note 862989). With appropriate minimum password rules (not overkilled - because the system must still be able to generate compliant wizard-passwords!), you will catch the bigger risks than any one 'BSM?????'s in there somewhere....
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • 10.4.8 Client takes long time to get to login window when bound to OD.

I am working on a system in a school. We have a dual processor g5 xserve with 4 gb of ram, the raid card, and 3 500 gb drives.
Fresh install of 10.4.8 with all the updates.
Raid 5 split in 2 volumes, one for server and one for data.
    AFP service running.
    Local dns running.
    Promoted to open directory master.
This is the following test scenario i have.
there is a user called studenttest and he belongs to a group called cccarstarmembers and is in a workgroup called student.
the studenttest users home folder exists in a sharepoint called students that is set up on the data partition.
there is a sharepoint called cccarstar that holds data for some educational software we use. The owner is administrator with rw access, the group is cccarstarmembers with rw access and others have no access.
The student workgroup only has a few changes like dock location just for testing purposes to verify that the work group is working properly.
When i bind a newly built 10.4.8 client with all the updates to the od server it intermittantly takes a long time for the client to get to the login window when it is powered up. Sometimes it will get to the login window in 45 seconds and other times it will take 5 minutes. This is not consistant. if you unbind the client then the computer will behave properly consistantly.
I have tried binding the client to the od master using the fully qualified domain name and the ip address with the same results.
the search path on the server is "dc=osx1,dc=erm,dc=sd,dc=bc,dc=ca" and on the client it auto populates at cn=config,dc=osx1,dc=erm,dc=sd,dc=bc,dc=ca".
I have changed the search path on the client to match the search path on the server with no success as this is what used to work for us on panther setups.
But this school has a panther client i am working on at the same time with the same applications installed and system preference settings and when i bind it to the same od master with the same search path that is displayed on the server it works fine. all users work, all groups and work groups work.
Dns appears to be working. lookup provides the correct forward and reverse lookup info on the server, if i use either the panther or tiger client and use lookup with the servers fully qualified domain name and ip address i get the correct answers back.
I had this problem before where tiger gave me slow to login screen problems but panther wouldnt when bound, and apple told me that it was because i had afp guest access disabled on the server. Enabling it resolved the issue about 6 months ago at another site but this time when building the server i made sure it was on from the start even thoug it is off by default.
Any suggestions, i am pulling my hair out and about 8 working hours from a deadline.

    I've seen this a lot.
This Knowledge Base article refers to Active Directory but we've seen this fix login delays with OD-only environments too:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303841
Another one of the causes is when you have multiple network mounts and your AFP service has guest access disabled. The loginwindow is trying to authenticate to each share with the username given and it is failing when that user account is not authorised for that share.
Another can be the LDAP timeout value(s). Try adjusting these in the LDAPv3 plug-in.
Also make sure your network ports have portfast/faststart set on the Mac ports. Sometimes because of STP the port isn't initialised fast enough for the OS when it's ready to start LDAP'ing.
Let me know if any of this helps.

  • Oracle SQL Select query takes long time than expected.

    Hi,
I am facing a problem in SQL select query statement. There is a long time taken in select query from the Database.
    The query is as follows.
    select /*+rule */ f1.id,f1.fdn,p1.attr_name,p1.attr_value from fdnmappingtable f1,parametertable p1 where p1.id = f1.id and ((f1.object_type ='ne_sub_type.780' )) and ( (f1.id in(select id from fdnmappingtable where fdn like '0=#1#/14=#S0058-3#/17=#S0058-3#/18=#1#/780=#5#%')))order by f1.id asc
This query is taking more than 4 seconds to get the results in a system where the DB is running for more than 1 month.
The same query is taking very few milliseconds (50-100ms) in a system where the DB is freshly installed and the data in the tables are same in both the systems.
Kindly advice what is going wrong??
    Regards,
    Purushotham

  • Logic Pro takes incredibly long time to start

    Dear forums
I noticed not long ago that Logic Pro takes an incredibly long time to start. I know I have quite a number of plugins installed and I guess it's going through the plugin folder to initialize all of them and look for new ones. Fair enough.
But it takes 2 minutes to finally show a splash screen and after 2 minutes and 20 seconds I can finally start using Logic Pro. Is that normal or am I the only one?
Interestingly, I noticed that after the upgrade to Aperture 3.1, also Aperture suddenly took a long time to load. Also almost exactly 2 minutes and 20 seconds (and I barely have plugins in Aperture). Usually you start the software and spend some hours with it, I know. But I jump in and out of apps a lot and the loading times are quite annoying. I think 2.5 minutes are quite a loading time. I can boot my whole Mac 4x in that timeframe.
Any ideas where that might be coming from? Is that normal and am I being too picky? Thanks for a reality check

Created new user account. Same thing. Logic took over 2 minutes to even start validating all the installed AU plugins (first thing it does on a new user account). After that, another start took also 2 minutes until the "choose project template" dialog appeared.
I read some posts that mounted USB sticks or flash cards could make Aperture super slow when importing photos. I have Boot Camp installed and have a Windows 7 NTFS partition on the same drive as my MacOS. So, out of curiosity, I forced it to unmount as the partition automatically gets mounted by the OS.
Voilà! That seems to have been the culprit! Now both Logic and Aperture display the splash screen in seconds and start like they are supposed to. Thanks for your help. Without your suggestions I probably would have never tried this.

  • Program runs fine then takes a long time to close

    Hi Everyone,
I have written a mid sized application, which is running fine until it comes to closing, then it takes an age to close. If it has only been running for a short time it closes fine, but after some time running it takes longer and longer to close. Until you try to close, it remains fully responsive and performing well.
I have heard the phrase 'memory leak' banded around, but am not 100% sure how I would have created one of these. I am also looking into my queues accidentally getting too big.
If you had this a problem like this, where would you look first?
I could do with some advice around common places that this kind of thing happens.
I don't really want to post my whole application on here, but it includes:
Multiple loop event based producer consumer
    Camera acquisisition and image processing
DAQ for some simple digital I/O
Reading and writing to text and image files
    Error handling
    Compiled as an executable
    No local variable abuse
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Any building of arrays?  If those get large, the application can start to get sluggish.
P@Anand is probably on the right track.  Make sure you check your closing operations and make sure a loop isn't left sitting there for a long time.
I have also seen file handling take a lot of time to delete temporary files or close large files.
There are only two ways to tell somebody thanks: Kudos and Marked Solutions

  • File Dialog Box often takes a long time to execute

    Hi all
The Labview File Dialog Box Express VI sometimes takes 5 to 10 seconds to execute. On other occasions, it executes in a blink of an eye. Why is that so?
I have tried to use the older Open/Create/Replace File VI as suggested in one of the forum's posts...but it behaves exactly the same way. Another problem is the trimming of the filename, which has also been reported and has NOT YET been solved.
(By the way...Recently, I updated to LV 2012 SP2 by suggestion of the NI Update Manager, only to find out that I was not entitled to this SP (which apparently only includes bug fixes) and I will have to roll back to LV 2012. Still,  in the evaluation version I can see that the bug is not fixed. Labview must have a lot of serious bugs for NI to ask for a paid bug fix, in which some bugs remain after having been reported a long time ago..well...)
What worries me now is that intermittent lag in the execution of the File Dialog (such a basic basic function of a program...). Anyone have any idea about this? The support menu said "Ask an engineer"...any of the NI engineers has any suggestion?

First of all: Thank you very much for the objective answer. I suppose that yor actually ARE a NI engineer, as I had hoped for.

The Labview File Dialog Box Express VI sometimes takes 5 to 10 seconds to execute. On other occasions, it executes in a blink of an eye. Why is that so?

The file dialog is provided by the OS, so if it is slow it is not LabVIEW's fault.
What kind of computer do you have? Is this a laptop that spins down the HD to save power? In this case it needs to wait for the HD to spin up. (You can change the windows power profile or you can spend more money and get an SSD).
Are you very low on memory?
Does your LabVIEW program waste 100% CPU in parallel doing nothing due to bad coding?
Are you pointing to a location that has millions of files?
Are you pointing to a network location?
    helder:---------------------------------------
I understand that the File Dialog is provided by the OS. But I have other applications on my PC and this doesn't happen - just in Labview. Sorry! And sometimes it
doesn't happen. Every 10 times I open the File dialog Box, 5 times it takes long and 5 times it is immediate.
(I am not low on memory, my coding is not bad>-look at the VI I sent, it just contains the fragment which uses the File Dialog Box and it behaves the same way! I am pointing to the same location that the other applications point to, I am not pointing to a network location, the PC is not spinning the disk down, etc etc.)
But yes, I will try it on another PC
(There was another post on the forum on this issue, but can't seem to find it now, just find my own post )
I attach a video demo of what happens.

Another problem is the trimming of the filename, which has also been reported and has NOT YET been solved.
What problem is that? Can you elaborate? There is a known bug in the windows dialog box that sometimes the pre-filled file names are shifted and not fully visible. This is a windows bug documented by Microsoft and LabVIEW has no control over it. It is not NIs job to fix OS problems.
    helder:-------------------------------------------
Of course you can't fix the OS.
If it is a windows bug, we will have to live with it.
A previous post on your forum did not provide me with that information (http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/File-dialog-trimming-the-default-name/td-p/2189874). The fact that it is a windows bug was not mentioned there.

Patches are included, service packs are not included. I think this is well documented. Most users are on SSP, this way you are always entitled to the newest version.
As with anything else, software has bugs. It is impossible to test a huge, complex system like LabVIEW under all scenarios. The possible number of combinations of hardware and other installed software on any particular computer probably exceeds the number of atoms in the universe. It is actually amazing how few bugs there are and how well it works. What "bug" are you talking about? Bugs are prioritized according to rules. Critical bugs are typically fixed very quickly. A cosmetic issue that only affects you and nobody else will take longer or might not even get fixed. Are you talking about a confirmed bug that could be reproduced by NI? Do you have a CAR#?
    helder:----------------------------------------
I was referring to the file-name-shifting-cosmetic-bug that the October-2012 post had indicated. But if it is a Windows-bug, NI does not have any responsibility, of
    course.
Regarding the bugs, of course they are unavoidable.
    helder wrote:

That sentence makes no sense! Why would the number of serious bugs depend on the cost of upgrading?? You are just rambling here....
In an ideal world, NI would have an unlimited number of programmers that can work 24/7 to immediately fix any discovered bug. This would only be possible if all users are willing to pay an unlimited amount of money for the software. As I mentioned, bug fixes are free in the form of patches, and they come out regularly. Service packs include new features and are not free.
    helder:---------------------------------------
    "....include new features"..????
    ---->>From http://www.ni.com/labview/release-details/
"LabVIEW 2012 Service Pack 1 is an exclusive update to LabVIEW 2012 for NI Standard Service Program (SSP) customers. There are no new product features introduced in service pack releases; instead, these releases provide bug fixes and improved stability for LabVIEW 2012. For a list of these bug fixes, click here."
No new features, just bug fixes!"
Moreover: If it isn't free, it shouldn' have let me update if I am not a SSP costumer.
Now I have a 45 days evaluation version. After that, I have to uninstall and reinstall everything. That takes some time and effort.
If there is a more direct way of rolling back t the previous version, please let me know.
    Thank you

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.2 takes a long time to run 'X11.app' (with system log)

Hello everyone, English is not my mother tongue so may not be exactly correct, sorry about that.
    Background:
I have a MacBook White (13-inch, Mid 2009) that isn't unibody, and was running Leopard 10.5.
I did a clean installation and now Snow Leopard 10.6.2, with iLife, iWork, and many many apps.
I am the only one who will use the Mac and my user account is as the 'admin'.
I previously had a problem concerning X11 too:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2343732
    *What I've done:*
    (1) rename my HD to 'Michaels_Home' under 'Get Info' from Finder (I can't rename in Disk Utility though)
    (2) press return (enter)
    (3) change my home folder path to the '/Volumes/Michaels_Home/Users/Michael' (http://eshop.macsales.com/Reviews/Framework.cfm?page=Tips/relocate3/relocate3.ht ml)
    (4) restart
    (5) log in and open X11
    (6) problem solved!!
    ==========
*BUT NOW* I have a problem after:
    (1) log in as the root user, and use command +ditto -V xyz xyz+ to copy my home folder from '/Volumes/Michaels_Home/Users/Michael' to '/Users>Michael'
    (2) change my home folder path to the '/Users/Michael' (http://eshop.macsales.com/Reviews/Framework.cfm?page=Tips/relocate3/relocate3.ht ml)
    (3) use the Mac OS X Snow Leopard USD$29 disc to boot my Mac up
    (4) delete the 'Michaels_Home' partition (I had 3 partitions: (1) Macintosh HD (2) Michaels_Home (3) Windows XP Professional)
    (5) resize the 'Macintosh HD' partition
    (6) boot from Macintosh HD
    (7) find that there's a problem about X11
    _The problem:_
it takes a *long time* for X11 to start.
When I try to open the 'X11.app', the X11 icon begins jumping on the Dock, but nothing happens.
Jumping and jumping... finally, it doesn't jump any more, with just the X11 icon on the dock.
What's more, there is no white dot under the icon, which means the app isn't running at the moment.
I right-clicked the icon, it shows me 'application not responding'.
So, I open the *Activity Monitor*, and I can see there are 3 apps related to X11 are running:
    (1) X11
    (2) X11.bin
    (3) xauth
*At the moment now, if you would wait for about 1.5 min., X11 will open.*
Please see below for the system log (from 'FREEZING' to 'WORKING')

So what actually causes this problem?
    Thanks in advance!

It turns out that there's something wrong about permissions.
    Here's the fix:
    (1) log in as the +root user+
    (2) type +chown -R Michael:staff ~Michael+
    (3) log out the +root user+
    (4) log in your account
    (5) done!
Hope this thread will help those who encounter the same problem as me!

    Dear All,
We have a data load from data source to std  DSO.The data load takes 5 hours to complete  6000 records in single data package which is long time.
Process monitor shows yellow status at one of the step for long time "No message :Transformation End" and after 5 hours approx  it completes successfully.
Please find the snapshot of process monitor(Attached File Process monitor.png).
There is an end routine and the transformation  is having direct mapping except for a target object exchage rate which is master data look up of DSO (Attached FIle : Transformation rule.png)
The look up DSO /BI0/AFIGL_DS00 in the below code is having DOCNUM as a primary key  but not the POSKY. Since one of the field is not a primary key, secondary index is created for the look up DSO.But,still it takes huge time to finish the last step as mentioned in the snapshot.
Setting for parallel process is 1
DTP--> Update tab-->Error handling-->No update,no reporting. But there is a error DTP present which I believe that there is no use when "No update,No reporting" option is chosen.
