Variable and Variant

Hi,
What is the difference between a variable and a variant.
Thanks,
JB

JB,
Variants do exist in BEx.
Say you have a Query, in which there are many User Input Variables. Every time, you can't waste time in entering the Values for the variables. So there is an option of entering the Values for those Variables, as per your requirements and save them. Then that will be called a Query Variant, a query for which the Variables are already selected.
I understand that you would then ask, How to do it? Please have a look at the following link.

    Hi,
first use the proper heading for a question.
you want the query all details means technical name, variable and variable type use RSRTQ

  • About personalisation and Variants in variables

    Hi all experts,
I have urgent need to know about information of personalisation of queries, variants in variables and get variant. Please any one provide this information ASAP.
    Thanks
    Suneel

Personalization: If you do personalize with some selection values in Query selection variable then when ever a user runs a query then those personalized values fields will not be visible to them and report runs on the personalized selection values.
Variant: In Query selection variable you can create variants with some predefined selection values and when ever an user selects that variable in the selection screen all the predefined values are selected automatically.
    Hope this helps..

  • Variable screen/variant screen authorization issue

    HI All,
We have implemented standard Cost Center Overview Report(0SR_C02_Q0002) in BI 7.
    We have three selection fields:
    1.Company Code which is mandatory
2.My controlling Area which is also mandatory
    3.Costcenter which is not mandatory
The requirement we are facing over here is that in the Variable screen/variant screen when I enter a company code, then I need to display dynamically only those "My Controlling Area" values which are assigned to that particular company code and not all. In the same way after selecting the appropriate "My controlling area" value, I need to display only those cost centers in the cost center selection field which are assigned to the selected company code and My controlling area combination and not all.
can anyone guide me on how to go about on this authorization issue at the variable screen itself.
Please treat this issue/requirement on high priority.
    Appreciated in advance.

    Hi,
I think that an alternative to solve your concern could be using Web Application Designer (WAD).  In this respect, there are several design options, with different levels of complexity.
As the simplest alternative, you could create a WAD including your query and three Dropdown Boxes: one for Company, a second for Controlling area and another for Cost center.  The four mentioned elements should be linked to the same dataprovider so, when you select a company, the options in the other two Dropdown boxes and the information in the query are updated.
In order to enforce mandatory filter selection at Company and Controlling area level, you should set NO_REMOVE_FILTER='X' in both two Dropdown boxes, so that "All values" option -which would mean no filtering- is not offered.
    I hope this helps you.

  • Key Date a Customer Exit and Variant use

    Hello,
I have a query and it includes time dependent data. The key date uses a  variable that is filled with the current date in a customer exit. Works nicely when the query is executed. However, if I save a variant with various values for variables on the starting/selection screen, the date is saved as a constant date and not dynamic based on the current date so that when the variant is selected to be used on a different day, the key date is the date the variant was saved and not the current date. This can be handled in R/3 ABAP report variants but I've not found a way to do it in BEx. Any help?
    Thanks,
    Diane

    Hi,
If you are running on BI 7.0 you can maintain variants with the below code. make data sy-datum instead of user input.
You can also chect the document. It also contains a method for bw 3.5 variants.
You can schedule this program in a process chain or make variations of this as needed.

  • User-specific Selection Variables in Variants

    Hi,
I am triing to follow the tutorial in the help.sap.com concerning the variants.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/c0/980386e58611d194cc00a0c94260a5/frameset.htm
I would like to create a User-specific Variables for a variant.
I created set/get param for my report, I also created entries in the user master record. But: In the variants maintenance tool (SE38). First I edit the attributes of my variables and choose the selection variable option for some fields. Second I highlight in green the user specific column stoplight. But clicking F4 doesnt propose any value. Then saving doesnt work neither.
    Thank you,
    Younes

    Umar,
When I click on the button save a modal popup it says "Variables not supplied with values. Save anyway?". I dont know how to supply the variables with values.
With the Function module VARI_USER_VARS_GET I am not able to Read existing variable values. Also in the selection screen of my report the menu  Goto -> User variables is not enabled. Maybe I am missing something? Could you help me.
    Thanks,
    Younes

  • How can I create a function using TestStand variables and call it from a step's Pre-Expression?

In one sequence I have dozens of Pre-Expressions which are almost the same thing, like this...
    Locals.tagID = (Parameters.singlePhaseEnabled ? "L" : "D") & Str(Locals.phase) & "006"
...and the only thing different is that three digit string at the end ("006" will vary). How can I write a function that I can call from a step's Pre-Expression so it would look something like this? ...
    Locals.tagID = MyNewFunction("006")

You cannot write custom commands for expressions.
That being said, there are a couple of options:
Create a subsequence with a single step. Use a parameter of the sequence as "function parameter".
Create a custom step type including a substep module which implements the function. Add an edit substep to enable the user of the steptype to gracefully change the parameter.
Store the variable parameter in a local/file global variable and modify the value in each step. This will, at least, keep the "function" the same for every step.

  • Variable for variant

    HI
we are facing some error in creating the process chain.
when creating a varian for "Start process" an informatio window is opening with message variant &00000000853 in not available.
we are trying to create a new even then we are facing the same error.
can any body tell me in which table the variable for the variant is stored.

    hi Reddy ,

    Transaction Variants and Screen Variants
Transaction variants can simplify transaction runs as they allow you to:
    Preassign values to fields
Hide and change the 'ready for input' status of fields
Hide and change table control column attributes
    Hide menu functions
    Hide entire screens
In particular, hiding fields in connection with screen compression, and hiding screens, can result in greater clarity and simplicity.
Transaction variants are made up of a sequence of screen variants. The field values and field attributes for the individual screens found in transaction variants are stored in screen variants. Each of these variants is assigned to a specific transaction, can, however, also contain values for screens in other transactions if this is required by transaction flow. The transaction that the variant is assigned to serves as initial transaction when the variant is called.
There are both client-specific and cross-client transaction variants. All screen variants are cross-client, but may be assigned to a client-specific transaction variant.
A namespace exists for cross-client transaction variants and screen variants and both are automatically attached to the Transport Organizer. Client-specific transaction variants must be transported manually.
In principle, transaction and screen variants can be created for all dialog and reporting transactions. There are, however, certain Restrictions that apply to certain transactions, depending on their internal structure.
No transaction variants are possible with transactions already containing preset parameters (parameter transactions and variant transactions).

Please post DDL, so that people do not have to guess what the keys, constraints, Declarative Referential Integrity, data types, etc. in your schema are. Learn how to follow ISO-11179 data element naming conventions and formatting rules. Temporal data should
use ISO-8601 formats. Code should be in Standard SQL as much as possible and not local dialect.
This is minimal polite behavior on SQL forums. Why do you think "a variable" and "the integer column" are precise clear specs? I hate to tell you but zero is a integer.

To make things clear, here are two small examples that show how nasty locals and value properties can be to the naive programmer.
    - Open the diagram of the race condition.vi before running it and try to predict what will be the values of the two counters after the third run.
    - Use the Compare Locals Properties and Wires.vi to find out how slow locals and value properties can be (times 1000+).
This being demonstrated, I must add that I use globals and value properties quite often, because they are often very convenient

  • What is the difference between variable and Define

    WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
these different declarations when it is done using the keyword "variable" and "define"
and both of these are done OUTSIDE "DECLARE"
    VARIABLE g_monthly_sal NUMBER
    DEFINE p_annual_sal =5000
-- I understand that p_annual_sal will be taken as a CHAR.
-- ALSO IF DEFINE variable acts as macro variable, SO is it necessary to give it some value whenever we define it.

OR does that mean whenever we want to specify data type for a bind varible we should use VARIABLE and
when we do not want to specify type we use DEFINE?

Both are SQL*plus commands. In a real programming environment you will not use such constructs (except a few rare scripting cases).
The difference is how the construct is later used. DEFINE is more like a copy&paste string. Whereever the name of this substitution variable is found it will be pasted into the sql*plus session.
VARIABLE creates a real variable. You can change the value and if follwos the usual principles of variables (including binding).
Example can be found the docs:
    from the docs
Where and How to Use Substitution Variables
You can use substitution variables anywhere in SQL and SQL*Plus commands, except as the first word entered. When SQL*Plus encounters an undefined substitution variable in a command, SQL*Plus prompts you for the value.
You can enter any string at the prompt, even one containing blanks and punctuation. If the SQL command containing the reference should have quote marks around the variable and you do not include them there, the user must include the quotes when prompted.
SQL*Plus reads your response from the keyboard, even if you have redirected terminal input or output to a file. If a terminal is not available (if, for example, you run the script in batch mode), SQL*Plus uses the redirected file.
After you enter a value at the prompt, SQL*Plus lists the line containing the substitution variable twice: once before substituting the value you enter and once after substitution. You can suppress this listing by setting the SET command variable VERIFY to OFF.
    Using Bind Variables
Bind variables are variables you create in SQL*Plus and then reference in PL/SQL or SQL. If you create a bind variable in SQL*Plus, you can use the variable as you would a declared variable in your PL/SQL subprogram and then access the variable from SQL*Plus. You can use bind variables for such things as storing return codes or debugging your PL/SQL subprograms.
Because bind variables are recognized by SQL*Plus, you can display their values in SQL*Plus or reference them in PL/SQL subprograms that you run in SQL*Plus.
    Creating Bind Variables
You create bind variables in SQL*Plus with the VARIABLE command. For example
    VARIABLE ret_val NUMBER
This command creates a bind variable named ret_val with a datatype of NUMBER. See the VARIABLE command for more information. (To list all bind variables created in a session, type VARIABLE without any arguments.)
    Referencing Bind Variables
You reference bind variables in PL/SQL by typing a colon (:) followed immediately by the name of the variable. For example
    :ret_val := 1;
To change this bind variable in SQL*Plus, you must enter a PL/SQL block. For example:
    BEGIN
    :ret_val:=4;
    END;

  • Wrong ASCII values for control characters in Variables and Stack Call in CVI2013?

    Hi,
I think there is an error in  "Variables and Call Stack" window if you want to look for your variables in ASCII format.
The control characters (0 -  31) are not shown correct. They are shifted 2.
    For example:
Character in Decimal format is 10 (LF) but when you are chancing to ASCII format it is showing \012.
The same with 13 (CR). This character is \015 in ASCII format.
I think that was no problem in CVI2012.
    Best regards
    Gunther
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm not using CVI2013 yes so I cannot respond regarding this specific product, but the code you are showing are the octal equivalent of the decimal value you specified: it could be that control characters (or generally speacking non-printable ones) are replaced with their octal equivalent in string view.

  • Bind Variables and Shared Component Report Query

I have a query in a region report which I have replicated to a shared component report query.
Both queries reference page items as bind variables in the where clause.
The report region on screen shows the correct results but the report query shows "no data". This is the case when running "Test Query" and "Download XML data" from the shared component report query definition. If I hardcode the variable names I get rows returned, If I use bind variables - and specify the values for these variables I get no data. THe XML file contains the tags for each bind variable I have specified but has no data between the tags. I have Ticked the box to include application and session state but it appears that the bind variables are not being used.
When I use my report query in the application (URL tied to a button) I get the same problem, the binds are not being passed to the report query.
Can someone please clarify if this is a bug or not? And if not, how can I get it to work.
    I am using Apex 4.0.2
    Thanks
    Kathryn

    Hi
To confirm, yes I selected the bind variables. I used these in the report layout, but the xml file has them as empty i.e.
    <P0_START_DATE><P0_START_DATE/> with nothing in between.
IN the Test Query section, if I put real values in the boxes for the bind variables, I get no data found. If I hardcode the values into the query, I get the data.
I've repeated the create report query many times and have created a report layout in RTF. I can use the layout with my region - in the print attributes and the layout works with the query but I need to create a PDF using 2 queries - ROWSET1 and ROWSET2. I can generate the XML but the values in the rows are all empty. When I use the layout with a report query instead of the region, I get no data even though I have used the same sql and have selected the bind variables. I was using variables from page items on page zero but have also tried using page items on the current page, the result is the same.
I need to use a report query and a report layout as I need data from 2 queries in the PDF.
I looked at your demo - what happens if you add a second sql query to the report query - is there any chance I can look at the back end (developer access?)
    Thanks for your input
    Kathryn

  • How to store the value into variable and access it in RMAN script

I want to create a variable and dynamically assign a numeric value to it (may get the value may be from SQL )and access the value in RMAN script.

    Raj,
We have been getting this type of request and it is not possible via RMAN to do that.
BUT--You could write a sql/plus script to query your variable and produce the RMAN script with the new value.
    Just a suggestion.
