Variable in report script

Is it possible to create create user defined variables in report script?

You can't use an Essbase report script to set a substitution variable.
You can set it in EAS or use MaxL (or Esscmd) to do so.
See: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/esb_techref/maxl_variable.htm
MaxL/Esscmd can be used to set a substitution variable and run a report script that references the variable.

  • Creating a range with Substitution Variables for Report Script

    Is it possible to create a range with substituion varables for use in a report script. For example instead of listing "Jan" "Feb" "Mar" "Apr" in the report script can I use a sub varaible like Jan:Apr that will list them all out?

    while I have not had luck with ranges in report scripts, others have. You could have a substitution variable the is "Jun" "Jul " "Aug" or whatever you want the members to be. and it will replace jusr fine

  • Report Script

    I have a substitution variable in report script for current week. Trying to add two more columns with the two prior weeks. Is there a command for that?

    2. Assign a UDA to the weeks you want in the report and pull in the uda instead of the members^^^ Personally, I really like this approach. It's cleaner than having multiple substitution variables that need to get set every week and its just an outline update.
    Either of Glenn's approaches would be fine, the above is just my $0.02.

  • Use of Essbase substitution variables in filename of a MaxL report script

    Hey guys.
    Is there a way that I can embed the value of one or more Essbase substitution variables in the filename of a report script in a MaxL command?
    I'm running a report script that uses sub. vars for entities and accounts and based on which of those members are set in the variables I want the filenames to include those member names. I'm looking for a way to include the &varName in the filename using the export database command.
    THANKS!

    Not really.
    If you want to do a lot of string mangling in a script outside of the report script, you can use DISPLAY VARIABLE:
    MAXL> display variable CurMo;
    application         database            variable            value
    +-------------------+-------------------+-------------------+-------------------
                                             CurMo               MayRegards,

  • Report script - using substitution variable with multiple values

    Hi All,
    Substitution variable with multiple values is not working correctly with Report scripts. Can you please let me know what is the syntax to assign multiple values to a sub variable using maxl:
    alter database samp.samp set variable 'ExtractQuarter' 'Q1,Q2,Q3,Q4';
    alter database Samp.Samp set variable 'ExtractQuarter' 'Q1:Q4';
    I tried both of the above but they are errored out with the below error:
    Error: 1001005 - Unknown Member [Q1:Q4] in Report.
    my requirement is different for both Actual and forecast data extract so i would like to make use of this variable to extract whole year data for Forecast and current quarter data for Actual with out duplicating the report scripts for both processes.

  • Substitution Variable in Essbase Report Script

    Hi All,
    In my report script I want to use Essbase Substitution Variable, just as an replacement to Text field... I am using following syntax:
    {STARTHEADING
    TEXT 0 "Bud"
    &StartMonthNo
    TEXT 0 "12"
    ENDHEADING}
    Where StartMonthNo is 1 ... I don't want to add this variable as some member in Essbase, just need to display Heading as
    Bud
    1
    12
    Using above syntax, it is just showing
    Bud
    12
    I have tried many syntax like Text 0 &StartMonthNo or Text 0 "&StartMonthNo" But nothing seems to be working...
    Please lemme know if I am missing something here .. Please give me some suggestions ...

    Hi,
    Your thinking is sound and creative, however due to the way they work you can't define a subvar as a concatenation of other subvars because it will be interpreted literally. e.g.
    sv1 = hello
    sv2 = world
    sv3 = &sv1 + &sv2
    sv3 interpreted by essbase will be: &sv1 + &sv2 and throw an error.
    (If you think about it, concatenating two 255 char subvars into another would still exceed the character liimit.)
    So,
    if you want to concatenate several long subvars, just define them and mash them together:
    &sv1 &sv2 = hello world

    hi, i just read your post. i'm not sure youre optimizing the order of the dimensions. try doing a level 0 export. then, use that order of dimensions in your report script for the Row command. if you need a different order of the fields use the ORDER command. see my example. i found that my needed order of fields took 6x longer than when i used the export order...also, my link command took longer when i put the dimbottom part last. you really just have to play around alot : \

  • DIAdem create an user variable for Report

    Hi,
    I know that i can display in a DIAdem report some pre-defined DIAdem vairiable (such as CurrDate) using @@Variable@@.
    I would like to create a DIAdem user variable (from a DIAdem script) to be used in DIAdem report.
    1) I have created a variable in my script
                      Dim myvariable
                      myvariable = "hello"
    2) I have run the scirpt
    3) I have put @@myvariable@@ in a Text
     But a error message appears : Variable is undefined : 'myvariable'
    How could a create a user varaible to be displayed in my report?
    Thank
    Solved!

    Hi malexman,
    The other option is to create a global variable from a normal (non-user-command) VBScript.  There are several ways to do this, but the one we instruct new users to implement is the "GlobalDim" command, like this:
    GlobalDim "UserVariable"
    UserVariable = "hello"
    You will notice that after this short VBScript runs the "UserVariable" changes color to show that it has become a global variable-- at that point you can use it in REPORT (and everywhere else in DIAdem, thus the name "global" variable).

  • Report Script parameter

    hi all,
    I am using a report script to generate a text file with budget data. This works fine in AAS console but I am automating this process by usning an ESSCMD and batch script.
    tha batch script will call the ESSCMD script which in turn executes the follwoing command
    RUNREPT 2 "RepScripName" "c:\Otputfile.txt"
    Now here I am hard coding the Output file name and location.But my requirement is that when I run the script it should prompt for file name and location.
    Any Idea on this
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Just to expand on the MAXL option, you can create a batch script which will accept input parameters such as :-
    set /p RepName=Enter Report Name
    set /p OutputName=Enter output Directory
    Then you can pass the stored variables into the Maxl script as :-
    essmsh maxlscript.mxl %RepName% %OutputName%
    In your maxl script you can access the passed in variables e.g
    export database 'appname'.'dbname' using server report_file $1 to data_file $2;
    The number after the $ relates to what position the variable was passed into the script.
    Hope this helps.

    Another solution I have tried is simply writing a small VB app that has a dialog that allows you to type in a file name or even navigate a file system directory. If I understand you correctly, you just want to be able to output the file anywhere you want. This works well and you can add more features to, just depends on if it is worth the effort. Other wise you can just write MXL and supply your script with position variables. You just need to type it in and hope you type typed it in correctly. Good luck, there are several ways to accomplish this.

    ######################END SCRIPT##################################
    I have 2 questions for help in regards to the above script:
    1)  For the Login and Service Account portion I can't get my output to show up properly.  Here is the snip from the script:
    #Login & Service Account Information#SQL Host Information
    $smo = new-object ('Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server') $computername
    $fragments += "<h3>Login & Service Account Information</h3>"
    $fragments += $smo | select ServiceAccount, Logins | ConvertTo-HTML -Fragment
    Here is how the output shows for this portion:
    ServiceAccount
    Logins
    domain\svcAcct
                 Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.LoginCollection
    I would like top have the login information show in the above table of the all the different logins.  When I run the script without HTML for that portion and just output to console it shows the login info as I would expect.
    2)  The 2nd question is, how do I add a variable to the bottom of the script to email the report to said email address.  This is probably simple but can't get my head wrapped around this part.
    Thanks all in advance!

    Thanks AnnaWY, that resolved the portion on how to email the report.  I was also able to utilize the following code which does the same thing as well:
    #Send an email with the contents of the report
    $MailBody= Get-Content $path
    $MailSubject= "SQL Server Report"
    $SmtpClient = New-Object system.net.mail.smtpClient
    $SmtpClient.host = "smtp.server.com"
    $MailMessage = New-Object system.net.mail.mailmessage
    $MailMessage.from = "[email protected]"
    $MailMessage.To.add("[email protected]")
    $MailMessage.Subject = $MailSubject
    $MailMessage.IsBodyHtml = 1
    $MailMessage.Body = $MailBody
    $SmtpClient.Send($MailMessage)
    I still have not been able to resolve the portion regarding the login/service account information not showing up in the table correctly.  For the time being I have removed it from the environment report and instead included it as a script of its own
    in our Security Auditing process.

  • Group Membership report script - Modify to change format of output

    Hi all,
    Slowly getting to grips with Powershell. Such a powerful tool.
    I've been tasked to develop a reporting script that will output a list of members of a set of groups and have found one of the scripts here to be a great starting point.
    So this is the script:
    "Import-Module ActiveDirectory
    cd AD:
    $MemberList = New-Item -Type file -Force “C:\Scripts\GroupMembers.csv”
    Import-Csv “C:\scripts\grps.csv” | ForEach-Object {
     $GName = $_.Samaccountname
     $group = Get-ADGroup $GName
     $group.Name | Out-File $MemberList -Encoding Unicode -Append
      foreach ($member in Get-ADGroupMember $group) {$member.SamaccountName | Out-File $MemberList -Encoding Unicode -Append}
    $nl = [Environment]::NewLine | Out-File $MemberList -Encoding ASCII -Append
    The output lists the group name and the members of said group using Sam account name.
    Ideally I would like that the email address of the user be in the output instead of SAMACCOUNTNAME however I realise that this may not easily be achievable due to the output of get-adgroupmember.
    I'd also like if the output contained each of the email addresseses of the group members to be on the same line seperated by a semicolon in one cell directly under the group name.
    EG:
    GROUPNAME1
    [email protected];[email protected];[email protected]
    GROUPNAME2
    user15:mail.com
    Etc
    Can either of these requirements be achieved from modifying the script above and any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks for any assistance.

    You're welcome, glad I could help out.
    Here's the same code with some comments and syntax links:
    # Import the CSV file and process each record
    Import-Csv .\grps.csv | ForEach {
    # Set the group name as a variable for easy use later
    # This really isn't necessary, but I do it for easy reading
    $groupName = $_.SamAccountName
    # Get the group members of the current group and process each user
    # The output of this loop will be stored in a single variable
    $groupMembers = Get-ADGroupMember -Identity $groupName -Recursive | ForEach {
    # Get the user account and select only the EmailAddress property
    Get-ADUser -Identity $_.SamAccountName -Properties EmailAddress |
    Select -ExpandProperty EmailAddress
    # Create a hashtable from the data above
    # The group members are sorted and then joined using ; as a delimiter
    $props = @{
    GroupName = $groupName
    Members = ($groupMembers | Sort) -join ';'
    # Create a new object based on the hashtable above
    New-Object PsObject -Property $props
    } | Select GroupName,Members | Export-Csv .\groupMemberships.csv -NoTypeInformation

    I'm trying to write a report script with a slight calculation and would really appreciate some help.
    Ideally I want to create a report where I only get the Account and Value. I select all my members but I need a calculation on the Entity dimension. Here's what i am trying to achieve:
    (All selected members for all Entities + All selected members for all Entities in group RIA-IFRS REPORTING ADJS. ) Yes I'm duplicating the members of group RI-IFRS REPORTING ADJS.
    So account 100 for all Entities = 50
    account 100 for all Entities in RI-IFRS REPORTING ADJS. = 25
    I want to display account 100 grouped as 75 without showing a line for each entity.
    This is what I have so far but it doesn't work right:
    ROWREPEAT
    SUPCOLHEADING
    SUPCOMMAS
    SUPHEADING
    SUPBRACKETS
    SUPEMPTYROWS
    TABDELIMIT
    MISSINGTEXT "#mi"
    DECIMAL 2
    NOINDENTGEN
    <PAGE ( Years, Version, Currency, Scenario, InterCompany, "Entity", "Cost Center","Set of Books","Reporting")
    "FY10" "Current" "Currency" "Actual" "InterCompany" "Entity" "Cost Center" "AB_CON_USD" "Reporting"
    <ROW ("Account")
    <LINK(<DESCENDANTS("Total Balance Sheet Accounts","Lev0,Account"))
    { CALCULATE ROW "Entity" = "Entity" + "RI-IFRS REPORTING ADJS."})
    <COL (Period)
    "Dec"
    !

    Hi Robert,  I wasn't getting any data, but I managed to figure that out.  Basically I created 2 columns with the values I needed and then added them up with a calc cloumn.  However I can't get my essbase substitution variables working.  So I created a substitution variable called CurrQtr  and set this to Quarter3.  In my script I'm using this @CurrQtr as  a period however it doesn't use it as it's just giving me the total for the Period dimension.  Any help?
    Here's the script:
    ROWREPEAT
    SUPCOMMAS
    SUPBRACKETS
    SUPEMPTYROWS
    TABDELIMIT
    MISSINGTEXT ""
    DECIMAL 2
    NOINDENTGEN
    <PAGE ( DataSrc, Years, Version, "P&L Type", Currency, Scenario, InterCompany, "Cost Center","Set of Books","Reporting")
         "DataSrc" "FY10" "Current" "No_Type" "USD" "Actual" "InterCompany" "Cost Center" "AB_CON_USD" "No_Cost_Type"
    <COLUMN (Period)
              @CurrQtr
         WWL "RIA-IFRS REPORTING ADJS."
    CALCULATE COLUMN "Gaap" = 1 - 2
    ORDER 0,3,1,2
    <ROW (Account)
    <LINK(<DESCENDANTS("Global Accounts","Lev0,Account"))
    In my script I'm using this @CurrQtr as a period however it doesn't use it as it's just giving me the total for the Period dimension. Any help?
    I don't understand this...
    *<COLUMN (Period)*
    *          Qtr3      WWL "RIA-IFRS REPORTING ADJS."*
    have you tried like this.??

  • Loading New Substitution Variables with Esscmd Script

    Hi, I posted a topic awhile ago and haven't gotten any responses to help. I was wondering if tehre is a script to load NEW substitution variables into a database using an ESSCMD script. The UPdatevariable doesn't work if you don't already have variables in teh database loaded. I need to load them in. THANKS

    while I have not had luck with ranges in report scripts, others have. You could have a substitution variable the is "Jun" "Jul " "Aug" or whatever you want the members to be. and it will replace jusr fine
