Variable in SSIS

Dear,
I am trying to make a package to import data directly from the accounting database using a selection of the requested company via the selection prompt.
PROMPT(SELECT,%COMPANY%,,"Please select entity ",%ENTITY_DIM%)
I use the modiscript to change the sql statement in de oledb connection.
OLEDBCONN(CODA,SqlCommand,"SELECT * FROM oas_balance WHERE (Company = '%COMPANY%') AND (yr = 2008) AND (period <= 4)")
The package still gives the error Description = SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14.
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client"  Hresult: 0x80040E14  Description: "Statement(s) could not be prepared.".
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client"  Hresult: 0x80040E14  Description: "Incorrect syntax near 'E001'.".
(where E001 being the value introduced by the select prompt)
What syntax should be used for the variables ?
Kind regards,
Koen

1) the Debug was on but the query string is not visible in the DM detail log (unless I'm looking in the wrong place, the previous error message was derived from the log)
2) the table is outside the BPC database and I using a Oledb connection
3) I did not fully qualify the object because if I run the package with company e.g. 'E001' hardcoded iso '%COMPANY%' in the select statement the modify script works perfectly and retrieves the selected data from the table outside of BPC

  • Why does DB2 Data Flow Task query does not accept a date coming from a string or datetime variable in SSIS?

I am trying to compare a DB2 date format to a date variable from SSIS. I have tried to set the variable as datetime and string. I have also casted the SQL date as date in the data flow task. I have tried a number of combinations of date formats, but no luck
yet. Does anyone have any insights on how to set a date (without the time) variable and be able to use it in the data flow task SQL? It has to be an easy way to accomplish that. I get the following error below:
An invalid datetime format was detected; that is, an invalid string representation or value was specified. SQLSTATE=22007".
    Thanks!

    Hi Marcel,
Based on my research, in DB2, we use the following function to convert a string value to a date value:
    Date(To_Date(‘String’, ‘DD/MM/YYYY’))
So, you can set the variable type to String in the package, and try the following query:
    ACCOUNT_DATE  BETWEEN  '11/30/2013' AND  Date(To_Date(?, ‘DD/MM/YYYY’))

  • How to create dynamic connection string with variables using ssis.

    Hello,
Can anyone let me know on how to create dynamic connection string with variables using ssis?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi vinay9738,
According to your description, you want to connect multiple database from multiple servers using dynamic connection.
If in this case, we can create a Table in our local database (whatever DB we want) and load all the connection strings.  We can use Execute SQL Task to query all the connection strings and store the result-set in a variable of object type in SSIS package.
Then use ForEach Loop container to shred the content of the object variable and iterate through each of the connection strings. And then Place an Execute SQL task inside ForEach Loop container with the SQL statements we have to run in all the DB instances.
For more details, please refer to the following blog:

  • SSIS : Read Rows from an Object variable in SSIS Script Task which is looped many times.

    Hello All,
Here is what I am trying to do...
    1. I am having two rows, one column in an Object Variable. (vLoopCountObj).
    2. I am having 30 Rows, 2 Columns in my second Object  Variable (vTableRowsObj)
    3. I have a FOR EACH LOOP which will run for number of rows in vLoopCountObj i.e 2 times here.
    4. I have a Script Task inside the FOR EACH LOOP to display all the rows of vTableRowsObj.
    5. When I execute, 30 Rows gets displayed only once. It will not display when the loop goes for second iteration. Please help me to display for second time.
    6. I have used below code to display the rows whithin the script task which is in SSIS dataflow task.
    Imports System
    Imports System.Data
    Imports System.Math
    Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime

    Hi Raj,
It is verrrry interesting issue. I can also confirm that it doesnt loop again. I've made a simple test and figured that in the second loop even you fill the Dataadapter, record count is zero. Which brings me up to the idea: Somehow, after you read the object
variable resultset, you can not read it again in the for each loop.
Strange, probably a bug or a technical issue that is beyond my existing knowledge.
I can provide a workaround. You can also loop in script task for first variable. (Nested loops)

  • ForEach Loop Container Mapping Variable From SSIS Package Not Working In SQL-Server StoredProcedure

I have an SSIS package that uses a ForEach Loop Container to enumerate Excel Files in a dir. I also have a Task Flow that inserts data from those Excel files into SQL-Server.
Im trying to insert the file names into a column into the same table in SQL-Server by using a mapping variable in my StoredProcedure.
Im having trouble with my MappingVariable at the end of the script with red squigglies. The following is my StoredProcedure script.
    CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[Insert_F_STG_v2]

The last @[USER::CurrentFileName] in the Values block at the bottom of the script is the one giving me issues.
    The following is the error:

String packageLevel (to store the query).
    <Variable Name="V_Archivequery" DataType="String">

What happens if you hit Preview button in OLE DB Source Editor? Also you can use the same query by selecting SQL Command option and test.
Could you try set the Delay Validation = True at Package and re-run ?
If set the query in variable expression (not in value), then Set Evaluate As Expression = True.

  • How do I access a value of a variable in SSIS and control the flow accordingly based on its value?

So I have a Foreach Loop Container that Enumerates a read Excel spreadsheet and this Foreach Loop get its User::SheetName. Can I change my flow accordingly based on the value of the User Variable User:SheetName that is dynamically valued by the Foreach Loop
Container? So if the User::SheetName is "Enrolled", I want to load that worksheet to a certain SQL Server Table using an Excel Source and OLE DB Destination and if the User::SheetName is "Engaged", I want to load its worksheet contents
to a different SQL Server Staging Table. What Task can I use to determine the value of User::SheetName or am I going to have to write a C# script to do this?
Any help and/or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi ITBobbyP,
According to your description, you want to read data from excel by using the Foreach Loop container with the appropriate enumerator. If that is the case, please refer to the following steps:
Inside the ADO NET enumerator, add a data flow task.
Inside the data flow task, add an Excel source.
Open the Excel source, and point to the Excel data source set up in the file enumerator.
Select one of the sheets that shows in the drop down.
    Close the Excel source.
    Select the Excel source.
In the properties window, copy the name of the sheet you selected. It's in the 'OpenRowset' property.
Set this as the initial string in your sheet name variable created to gather the sheet name from the ADO NET enumerator.
    Select the Excel source.
In the properties window, change the 'AccessMode' to OpenRowset from Variable. This will change the property 'OpenRowset' to 'OpenRowsetVariable'.
Change the 'OpenRowsetVariable' to the variable created to hold the sheet name via the dropdown.
Open the Excel source. You should see your variable as the sheet name.
Click the 'Columns' tab to verify you can connect and mess with columns.

  • Pass BPC SSIS variable to stored procedure

      Dear All
We have a ssis package in which there is data flow task. There
is a OLEDB source which uses “Data access mode” as sql command. We used OLEDB data source instead of execute sql task as the outuput is table format generated in Stored proc which is used in following task
This task calls a stored procedure with a input parameter which will be appset name.   [EXEC ProcName '@BPCAPPSET']
The stored procedure is executing fine without any issues. But when I pass variable containing appset name to that stored  procedure its not taking properly and package ending successful.
The variable is “BPCAPPSET” it contains appset name which
    will be taken front end.
However to test if this value is taken by stored procedure
or not, I tried to hardcode and pass appset name to stored procedure. i.e exec
    ProcName Appset1.
Appset1 is existing appset. It worked fine. But we want to
put this package in all land scapes, such that whenever it is triggered it will
take the appset as parameter and does the calculation in stored procedure.
Please advice how to pass this variable to stored
    procedure.
    regards
    Prasad

      Hi Roberto
    Thanks for your mail.
I have tried, but I am getting error that @BPCAPPSET scalar
    variable must be defined.
I believe that @BPCAPPSET is system defined variable which
will be passed from Data manager package. May be this is the reason it is not
    recognizing this variable?
If so, should I define a variable in SSIS. How can we
assign value of @BPCAPPSET to the newly defined variable?
    Please advise. Attached screenshot.

  • Reading Timestamp value into an SSIS variable

I need to read the last timestamp value (MAX(TimeStampValue)) from a table, store it in a variable in SSIS and using the variable, perform a comparison against another table and load delta records.
The string data type is not playing well with the timestamp data type and things get even more complicated if I try to store the timestamp value as a varchar in a table.
Is there any variable data types in SSIS that will store the timestamp value easier than a string?

It could be due to the time stamp value being incompatible with the date time functions which you need to fix.
So to make it conform manipulate on its value to get the proper format.
PS: Varchar WILL swallow any text, please be more specific, think how others would be reproducing YOUR issue.

  • SSIS - Loop through files from a file path based on the value in the variable

    Experts,
I have a requirement where I'll be loading multiple files in to a SQL server table and archive the files when loaded. However, the challenge is , the file path should be dynamic based on the value of a variable (say, @ProductName).
For example: If I am running the package for variable @ProductName="Product", the file path would be "\\....\Src\Product", in that case the ForEachLoop will loop through all the files in that folder, load them to the table and Archive
the files to the "\\....\Src\Product\Archive" folder.
Similarly, if the @ProductName="Product_NCP", the foreachloop container should loop through files in the "\\....\Src\Product_NCP" folder, load them to the table and archive them to the ""\\....\Src\Product_NCP\Archive"
    folder.
Any suggestions? I should be able to run the package manually just by passing the "@Product" value, create Archive folder if it doesn't exist, load the data and archive the files.

    Yes
    1. Have a variable inside SSIS to get folder path. Set path based on your rule using an expression
    like
    (@[User::ProductName] == "Product" ? "\\....\Src\Product" : (@[User::ProductName] == "Product_NCP" ? \\....\Src\Product_NCP:..))
    similary archive
    (@[User::ProductName] == "Product" ? "\\....\Src\Product\Archive" : (@[User::ProductName] == "Product_NCP" ? "\\....\Src\Product_NCP\Archive" :..))

  • Set SSIS variable property 'EvaluateAsExpression' to true dynamically

I have a variable in SSIS.Initially i will set the value 'EvaluateAsExpression' property to false.
In my package.I have a foreach  loop container.Once the execution enters in to the for each loop container.I want to set the 'EvaluateAsExpression' to true.Is that possible??
    Can anyone please help

    Hi Abhinav530,
It’s not supported to change the EvaluateAsExpression property of a SSIS variable at runtime. I guess the sceanrio may be that you want the variable to use the default value when the package execution hasn’t entered the Foreach Loop Container phase, while
the variable get value from the expression when the execution of the Foreach Loop Container starts. In this circumstance, you can create another variable with the same name but in the Foreach Loop Container scope. In this way, you don’t need to make changes
to the existing expressions that reference the variable, and the variable in Foreach Loop Container scope will override the same name variable in package scope when the Foreach Loop Container executes.

  • How to create a dynamic SSIS package for multiple flat file destinations

    Hi,
I have to create a ssis package which has single data flow task and inside that I have 23 source (sql- select * from - statements)- destination (flat files, 23 distinct) connection.
Now for each product I have to create separate SSIS package (i.e. if prod=abc then these read select * from abc_tables and 23 abc_ txt files)
I want to do it dynamically, means only single package and inside that variables will take select * values for each source-dest connection (so i believe 23 variables) and same for destination flat files.
    Let me know. :)
ANK HIT - if reply helps, please mark it as ANSWER or helpful post

Sorry It seems you're contradicting yourself. you say I know my source and dest structure and the you're
asking all I want is to have a dynamic structure
    what does that mean?
    and reading your next sentence
I want to run a package for 5 products, instead of creating 5 ssis packages with 23 source- dest connection, I would
like to have one with only 23 source- dest connections
What I feel is what you're looking for is to  have a looping structure to loop through each of the 5
    products.
In that case what you could do is this
    1. Create a object variable in SSIS
    2. Use a Execute SQL Task to populate the variable with all available products (I think you'll have a master table for that). Set ResultSet property to Full ResultSet and then in ResultSet tab map Object variable to 0 th index
    3. use a ForEachLoop container with ADO .NET recordset enumerator and map to object variable. Create a variable of datatype same as that of Product identifier field to get individual values out
    4. Inside loop create your data flow task with 23 source destination connection. In the query part use a parameter for product field and map it to the variable containing product value to get only data for the product.

  • Passing value while running a SSIS SQL Task?

    Hi All,
I am using  SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 for developments.
I have a procedure on the database, which works fine, when I execute the procedure , I can input a value for the parameter and I can see the result set.
    Procedure is as below:
    USE [DW]
    GO
    /****** Object:  StoredProcedure [dbo].[Command2]    Script Date: 10/01/2014 4:07:58 PM ******/
    SET ANSI_NULLS ON
    GO
    SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
    GO
    ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[Command2]
    @ReportDate nvarchar(50) = NULL  -- NULL default value
    AS
        SET NOCOUNT ON;
    IF @ReportDate IS NULL
    BEGIN
PRINT 'ERROR: You must specify a Report Date.'
       RETURN
    END
    -->>
    SELECT *
    FROM BB.dbo.Daliy_Sales
    WHERE effective_date < @ReportDate;
    RETURN
I  Just want to create SSIS job to have the above procedure.
I created a new SSIS project and add a "Execute SQL Task" container from the tool bar and provided values as below :
    Connection Type: OLE DB
    Connection: ---provided
    SQLSource Type : Direct Input
    SQL Statement : exec dbo.Command2
When I run the job, through Debugger, it didn't ask me to input a value for the parameter which in the stored procedure, job turned out be 'green' color , but no rows were displayed...
I want to input a value, then to run SSIS task, what changes should I require to make this happen???
    Thanks in advance.
    Mira

you need to create a variable inside SSIS to hold date value.
Then command inside execute sql task should be
    exec dbo.Command2 ?
and map variable to parameter 0
When calling package pass your date value to variable by adding it as a configuration item inside config file/sql table and setting value inside file/table
Or if calling package using dtexec utility set variable value using /SET switch
