[VB CS4] CreateObject with Photoshop 64 bit possible?

Hi,
I wrote a VB6 application for a customer some years ago, which is using Photoshop for some imaging stuff.
The thing is that the customer has now installed the 64 bit version of Photoshop CS4, and she gets the well known error nr 429, ActiveX component can't create object, trying to run the program.
The error is most likely to ocurr on the line trying to initiate Photoshop:
Set appRef = CreateObject("Photoshop.Application")
The appRef object variable is declared as this:
Private appRef As Photoshop.Application
And in References for the project, I'm pointing towards the "Adobe Photoshop CS4 Object Library".
Is there another name for creating the application for the 64 bit version, using late binding in the same manner as for the 32 bit version?
Best regards,
Andreas

Hi!
Sorry for not answering sooner!
Well, it seems I had to rewrite the application in Visual Studio C#.
(Looking in the code) I used this declaration for the application object (Photoshop):
private dynamic appRef;
and this code to set it to an instance of Photoshop:
appRef = Activator.CreateInstance(Type.GetTypeFromProgID("Photoshop.Application"));
Documents are opened like this:
docRef = appRef.Open(FullFilePath, null, null);
Best regards,
Andreas

  • How to make Bridge CS4 compaitible with Photoshop CS3?

    (MacBook Pro, OS 10.5)
After suffering many crashes and terrible performance of Photoshop CS4, I want to switch back to Photoshop CS3. But there is one thing that holds me - Bridge CS4 is so damn good, that I still want to continue using it. Unfortunately, Bridge CS4 doesn't have the Automation scripts that use Photoshop CS3, it only can run them with Photoshop CS4... If I remove Photoshop CS4, the Automation menu just disappears from the Tools menu in Bridge
Please help, is there any way I can run those Batch automations on from Bridge CS4 on Photoshop cs3? I'm not a programmer, so please be more clear, if it involves altering some files...

Here http://www.techgreet.com/create-animated-gifs-in-adobe-photoshop/ is step by step guide to your question, i hope it will solve out your problem.

  • Difference with photoshop 64 bit

What is the difference between adobe photoshop and adobe photoshop 64 bit?

You might say 64-bit can count higher. 32 bit or 2^32 = 4 GB, 64 bit can go to 17 million GB.
Most computers come with 8-32 GB ram and 32 bit addressing can't reach that.

  • Problems with Photoshop CS4

    Hello everyone
    I installed windows 7 64 bit and photosop cs4 32 and 64 bits.
For plugins I use photoshop 32 bit as in 64 does not recognize.
When working with photoshop 32-bit, or by applying a similar effect on photoshop I "refresh" the screen, I have to give it a click above to update the action taken, which does not happen with the 64-bit . previously when I had windows XP 32 bit, something similar is happening but unlike in Windows 7 is became more confusing to work
Looking at other forums I found that others feel the same.
I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7, but can not get photoshop to work properly. The refresh of the windows is horrible, it gives many hitches, even small images at 72 dpi. It's pretty desperate
I have a similar problem with Photoshop CS4, Windows 7 and the Gforce 9800 GTX version 196.21
The problem is that whenever I do a process, I have to click on the screen to react, is quite annoying if you retouch photos, anyone know where the problem may lie?
    Example of my problem
I apply an effect to an image flash
Notice how after applying it, as is the browser and thumbnail in the layer and I obviously still displays the result on the image.
    After giving up a click:
I shows the effect applied, but the display remains the same, as in the layer.
If I want to leave the viewer have to make the preview zoom.
As you will see work like this is very annoying and stressful. Any help?

Did you update PS CS4 to 11.0.1? If not update before turning off opengl or updating Nvidia drivers.
There are also new nvidia drivers out 197.13. However, newer does not always equal better.

After that i start Photoshop and i read a message that says that Photoshop have desactivate the aceleration of GPU because there were some problems.
I go to the menu of performance in settings and Vista launch another message to close de application when i click in performance to open the settings.
Then i try to open another time the application and i try to open a *.png image file and i paint something in it, then i click in the "X" to close, but the application doesn´t close (i prove with "X" of the application and with the "X" of the image tab). I have to close it with de Task Manager.
Then i try to open a *.jpg image file and Vista launch another message to close the application.
I don´t know the reason of these problems, i´m trying to find something in internet.
I hope you can help me to resolve this problems, i need photoshop.
    Thank you in advance.

Have you checked that the files actually "belong" to anyone? If you reinstalled your system recently, they may have invalid security descriptors. Try to check. Right-click one of the offending files, choose "Properties", then go to the security settings tab. You should at least see 3 entries (Administrators,[your user name], System). If you see additional entries only consisting of numbers and letters, uncheck the "inherit parent folder settings" option, choose to copy all permissions in the prompt that comes up, then delete those invalid entries. In addition, you may need to set a new owner in the "Advanced" options (it should however default to Administrator after the previous steps)...

  • Using Lightroom 5 with Photoshop CS4

Hi folks. New Here. I am a novice convert to digital photography and I have browsed the discussions concerning Lightroom and Elements in the main.
Is there any need to buy Lightroom 5 to deal with cataloguing and searching imported RAW images with Photoshop CS4, as Photoshop Bridge 4 comes with Photoshop CS4? What is a good strategy for dealing with libraries of images? I have the chance to aquire inexpensive versions of LR 5 and P CS4.
For your information - I am using a MacBook Pro with a quad core i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB Flash drive and my camera is a Canon PowerShot SX50 HS.
    Many thanks.

    Thanks 99jon,
I appreciate the careful and easy to understand reply, Jon99. Versions of P higher than CS4 are prohibitively expensive for me at this stage. If I get on with digital photography then I might look at the PCS and L CC subscription option in the future.
I went ahead I aquired my bargain basement version of P CS4 and like it so far, but I held back on LR5 until I had a clearer view of what it enables me to do and thanks for the information.
Do you or anyone know if I can sell my version of P CS4 when if I decide to move up to the Cloud solution? Flicking through another Pogue-style book seems to suggest that the latest versions of P CS and L are the current state-of-the-art. Is there a simple list of what users of this option consider to be the main, *essential* improvements of the latest versions of these two pieces of software that possibly make it a must-purchase. I am not after an exhaustive list, but just the main improvements that may make this an essential purchase after I cut my teeth with P CS4.
I am a real novice and have included the specs of my camera and MacBook Pro in my previous post for anybodies info in order to help me.
    Many thanks,
    David

  • Install demo of CS4 Web Premium-Photoshop Installs 64 bit and x86 versions but 64 bit does not work

Just installed the CS4 Web Premium demo onto a brand new 64 bit i7 processor with Windows Seven Home Premium machine with 9gb memory. The install seems to be fine except it installed a 64 bit version as well as x86 version into different folders. The x86 version works fine but the 64 bit version does not.
Every time I try to open a file using "Open With' I get the following message "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application."
First of all why does it install both versions and why does it try to open everything in the 64bit version even after specifically telling it to open in the x86 version (even after setting the default file association to the x86 version.
I would of course like to use the 64 bit veriosn but if it not going to work. I'll use the 32 bit version. I just wantto be able to right click my mouse and be able to "Open With". I can open Photoshop 32 bit and open the file that way but it is a pain to do that way.
    Any help would be appreciated

Both are installed to allow you to use 32 bit plugins. As for the problem, you'll get far more attention in the Photoshop forum.

  • How can I obtain a version of Print Studio Pro that works with Photoshop Elements 13 (64 bit)?

How can I obtain a version of Print Studio Pro that works with Photoshop Elements 13 (64 bit)?  The advertising refers to Print Studio Pro 2 but all I find available to download is version 1.35.

Thanks - I did notice that the 2 was a superscript on one site but on another (I think the one for the Pro-10 printer) it was definitely a 2 in line with the rest of the text and separated by a space (at least on my browser).  At any rate, I suspected something of the kind and will simply use Photoshop Elements 11 when I want a pattern print until the change is made.
If you have an inside line to Canon you might also suggest some changes to their Image Garden program, specifically its handling of DVD label projects.  It has several themes and within each theme several layouts.  As far as they go these are fine but they do not give nearly enough flexibility.   The boxes for insertion of images are useful as is the simple procedure for rescaling the image so it is cropped in varying ways while staying within the fixed box.  However, it should be possible (a) to relocate the boxes on the page and (b) to resize and reshape the boxes - probably by a control which would become available by right-clicking on the box.  For example, there are times when the user might want to include a full 16 x 9 frame shot as one of the images, and in general the aspect ratios of the provided boxes do not permit this.
I have over the years preferred to use Word for this purpose after setting up masks to expose just the printable area of the DVD or Blu-ray disc, setting up the margins so that the center of the disc is in the horizontal center of the page, and finally introducing text and pictures and adjusting the font size of blank lines above the disc to line everything up properly in the vertical direction.  A typical layout might involve one large picture, located so the center hole and the curved outer edge do not block anything important, or two pictures side by side, or four pictures centered vertically (to minimize the effect of the outer edge of the disc) but possibly of different widths (so as to make both close-ups and wide scenes optimal on the same disc label).  The text then goes above and below the pictures.  All of this works perfectly so I probably wouldn't use Image Garden very often for this purpose, but the inability to resize and relocate the boxes must be very limiting for others as well.
Some of the layouts have image locations severely reduced by the edge of the disc.
As I said ... if you have an inside line to Canon .. but if not, please excuse the length of this post!

  • Photoshop CS4 crashing on Vista 64-bit

    I downloaded
    PSCS4GPU_OptionalPlugins.zip
    from
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb405064
It includes Disallow OpenGL Windows and Allow Old GPUS script files that are are also uninstallable.
On my machine at work (Windows XP Professional)
Allow Old GPUS did not work
Disallow OpenGL Windows got PS to work without crashing, but limits the features
On my machine at home(Windows Vista 64bit)
Allow Old GPUS did not work
Disallow OpenGL Windows did not work
My PS CS4 crashes on my Vista 64bit machine after start up and I don't think I should have to go buy the CS3 version....that is not right.

First, disable all plugins and see if Photoshop will launch (that will rule out a lot of issues).
Second, remove all your non-system fonts and see if Photoshop will launch (that will rule out corrupt fonts).
There is a known bug in Photoshop 64 bit dealing with some corrupt fonts (our recovery code wasn't 64 bit safe).

  • 30 bit color issue with photoshop cs6

I have 30 bit deep color enabled for my photoshop cs6, but whenever and wherever I hovered my brush tool above the image, it will wipe away the 30 bit information(note by switching to a different tool, it will automatically update everything back to normal)? By the way, I have a firepro w7000 video card.

    PSD = Photoshop
AI (which PS can export) = Illustrator
As you can see, mine saves as and AfterEffects file in Vista (CS4)
After selecting Photoshop, the icon changes and it opens with the proper app.
On the Mac I click the file and "get Info", and choose PS CS6.
It's now a cross format PSD.

  • Photoshop CS4 only installed in 32-bit version??

I bought Adobe Photoshop CS4 (Extended) 2 years ago. It was the disc-based copy for Windows. I recently got a new computer (now with 8GB ram and a 64-bit OS) So I instaleld PS CS4 the other day, and I now just realized that there is no 64-bit exe of the program. It only installed a 32-bit executable. It never asked me during install either if I wanted to choose the 32-bit or 64-bit version.
Does PS CS4 not have a 64-bit version? Or did I not get it? What's going on here?

There was a 64-bit version of CS4 for Windows but not for the Mac.  You might browser the DVD and see if you can find a 64-bit installer.  I don't have my DVD handy to tell you where to look.

  • Installing photoshop cs4 extended with cs3 suite

    Hi,
I would like to install photoshop cs4 extended with cs3 suite on the same drive.
Is it possible?  Should I uninstall photoshop cs3 (not extended) from the drive first?
Should I use the WinCS4Cleanupscript before I do that.
I dont want to uninstall the whole suite cs3.
    Thanks for your advises

CS3 will co-exist quite happily on your computer with CS4.
Do not remove it until you are completely satisfied with the new version!
There is absolutely no need for the clean script at this point. It is only to clear up after messed up un-installs.

  • Is scratch drive necessary with 64 bit ps cs4?  with abundant ram

I intend to acquire ps cs4 andi have a 64 bit machine with 32gb of ram...problem is it would be difficult for me to set up a different scratch disc...how much ram would one need in order to see no benefit from a scratch disc ??

since i brought it up i just did the math...2 to 64th power is 1.84 times 10 to 19th power...i think that bears some relationship to how much ram the cpu can access but i'm not computer literate enuff to be sure anyway i'm a little off topic
as i understand it the reason that photoshop uses scratch drives is so the app doesn't have to compete with the operating system for what os calls "virtual memory"...i would think if one had enuff ram that the os wouldn't need virtual memory so ps would not be competing for hard drive access even if it did need to use it...i'm a little curious why ps doesn't address the fact that computers are continuously equipped with more and more ram....if adobe bothers to develop a 64 bit application that can address scads of ram why does ps continue to use hard drives for scratch files-when memory is faster ?

  • Is it possible to script with Photoshop without explicit BridgeTalk use?

Not sure if I'm just "doing it wrong", but let me try to explain.
I know the usual "BridgeTalk.send()" process for sending messages to another application. What I'd like to do is join the scripts that I use for the different applications and have the process initiated from one, without having to use "eval()"'d scripts.
When my #target is "illustrator" the app object refers to the Illustrator object. The "photoshop" object within Illustrator is not the same as the "Application" object that would be available if the #target was something else. Is it possible to do this?
Simply put, with Photoshop and Illustrator open, I want to use a script ran from Illustrator to affect Photoshop without using the "eval()" method (and BridgeTalk.send() -- which is still just an "eval()"'d body.)
    Thanks!
Edit: Not sure if it's hindsight or just a moment of clarity. I see there's a Application.doAction() method, is there one for running a specific script? That might be a better way to accomplish what I want to do.

Well part of my workflow has me creating the drawing in Illustrator then exporting it to Photoshop to do all the raster things. These are architectural drawings (before they get to Illustrator they are born as CAD drawings.) I'm generating "pretty" display drawings. There is a lot of them so a lot of the "actions" on the files are repetitive and consistent. I've already got scripts for both the Illustrator and Photoshop side (that include exporting now). I'd like to invoke the Photoshop script from the Illustrator one, rather than having to manually run it from Photoshop.
The reason that the BridgeTalk "eval()" solution isn't ideal, is that these are fairly "large" scripts. Preparing them to be escaped so they could be "eval()"'d is just a bit of a nuissance to me. Not the end of the world mind you, just a nuissance.
