VBA to pull from Financial Reporting Studio/Reporting and Analysis Framework

Hi all,
I just started using Financial Reporting Studio, and I did a lot of research online to try to answer the questions I have below but to no avail, so I'm hoping I can get answers from the experts here.
1. I was wondering if it's possible to use SmartView VBA to pull a report from the "Reporting and Analysis Framework" onto Excel? If yes, how?
2. When I tried to pull lots of data from "Reporting and Analysis Framework" onto Excel using SmartView, it keeps getting the error message "New report failed to insert properly". Is there a way around this? Essentially, what I'm trying to do is pull the Expense data (Actuals, Budget, Forecast) from year 2011 to 2015 (by month) for every department (with each department being on its own worksheet using the split feature). If I reduce the number of departments or columns, it'll work, but when I try to keep everything, it fails.

There is VBA manual for smartiview application however I am not sure that you will be able to automate the retrieve of a report.

Hyperion Reporting and Analysis Framework

Hi Everyone,
In the services, the Hyperion Reporting and Analysis Framework is not STARTED. When I start it manually, it starts but again after a minute the START status goes away, meaning it stops by itself.
What could have happened?

No sync between Financial Report Studio repository and planning

Hi,
I have a problem in Hyperion Planning 11.1.3 when I am trying to open reports that are either in Explorer or in a task list linked by a smartcut. An error (#2108) occured saying that the object I am trying to open is not in the repository. I am using Financial Report Studio 11.1.1.3. to create reports.
Does anyone have an idea of why I am getting that error?

Hi,
This is a known issue and there is no solution yet as far as I'm aware. It happens when you open a report using different user names on the same PC.
The solution is this, log off from workspace, clean internet explorer caches (including temp files). shut down internet explorer and try openning the report again from workspace.
Obviously, you need to repeat this steps everytime you face the issue.

Port 6800 is Shutting down for Reporting and Analysis Framework

I have successfully (based on no errors in the log) installed and configured ReportingAnalysis and FR in Wintel 2008 and 11.1.2 environment but when services are started port 6800 and starts but shuts down after few minutes and get Namespace Process Error while logging into Workspace.
Upon looking into log files, I found following:

I have the same error as the original poster in my GSM log.
lsof -i:6800 returns the proper pid for financial reporting. Everything appears to be running correctly.
However, when i try to connect using financial reporting studio I get this error:

Reporting and Analysis Framework stuck - status yellow"Startup in Progress"

I just installed 11.1.2.2.0.66 on Win Server 2008 R2 - Foundation Services, Planning, and Essbase. 64bit computer, 500gb hard drive, physical box, 16gb memory - more than enough i would hope to run an EPM Planning development instance.
IIS 7.x .net framework 3.5.1 with Oracle Database 11g.
So each time i launch Workspace and log in as admin, it hangs for about three to five minutes and throws back the error stating that the reporting and analysis services on 6800 aren't responding.
In the workspace, navigate>administer, reporting and analysis, services, it shows reporting & analysis still trying to start.
The message in "RaFramework_stdout_console_Servlets" log in c:\oracle\midleware\user_projects\domains\epmsystem\servers\epmserver0\logs\
says
[SRC_METHOD: flush:?] GSM at localhost:6800 is not up

I will look through those logs. Thanks.
I did notice that there is a time_wait on the 6800 port - I can't understand if its something to do with the operating system or EPM; I don't have a firewall rule in place on that port and the OS was configured to turn off any firewalls.

Pull backend information from Financial Statement Generated Report

My users created a Balance Sheet report and are asking me how some of the data is calculated by Oracle since they are wanting to match it to another system that is mirrored to Oracle. I am actually looking to see how a certain column set is put together. In our system the column set is Balance Sheet External and when you click "Define Columns" the Amount Type under Balance Control is BAL-Actual(FY Start). How do I find where this is pulling it's data from?

Without knowing exactly which information you want to retrieve is difficult to give you an example. Are you searching for the balances of a certain account in a certain period? Beggining balance? Period balance?

Row numbers in Financial reporting Studio report

Hey I am designing reports in FR Studio that require row numbers next to the line item (Account) description. The problem is that these rows can be dynamically suppressed if they are 0/missing/error. So the question is: how do I get row #s, skipping hidden rows?

Yes I completely agree, a few extra 'Excel' type functions could make a huge difference!
Thinking outside the box, one ugly workaround might be ranking??! Could you somehow use ranking on the report to return a row number?
I'm thinking on the Essbase side you might need to create a member in a dimension other than Accounts that you can store a static value against, incrementing it for each account in your hierarchy, e.g 10, 20, 30 etc. Then in your reports you have a hidden column to return that value and a formual column to rank it in ascending order.
Like I say not pretty but if you could do it in a dense dim e.g. Period then it shouldn't significantly add to block size / db size as it is only one member, store it against a static member in your other dimensions, e.g. No Year, No Entity assuming you have something similar. You would also need to be careful of your numbering if your row numbers needed to include subtotals so that those values were ranked correctly.
Its amazing what you can come up with when you have to find a way to do things.

Hyperion Reporting and Analysis Framework Agent issue

Hi All,
         Right after have installed and configured all EPM 11.1.2.3 environment on Windows 2008, I had to stop all services and restarted the server for maintenance, after start all EPM services the RA Framework stops after have started and the following message is displayed at Event Viewer.
"The description for Event ID 0 from source HyS9RaFrameworkAgent_epmsystem1 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
The Java Virtual Machine has exited with a code of 0, the service is being stopped.
the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table"
        What does it means ? Someone could help me on that ?

Failing to start Reporting and Analysis Framework service

Hello Everyone,
We recently had a hardware failure and we could not get R&A framework service up. The diagnostic log says -
No agent is configured from HIT registry, please make sure the registry is configured properly
What does this mean? Any idea as to how I can resolve this?

Error starting Reporting and Analysis Framework agent

We are running Hyperion 11.1.1.4. We have been running fine; however, we stopped the agent yesterday (in our TEST environment) and when we tried restarting it we get an error: Failed to start agent service. What could be causing this error? We're running on RedHat Linux v5.3. When you try to login to Workspace and as expected, you get an error message.
We are having this exact same issue in our DEV environment. Both DEV and TEST servers were powered down and moved in our data center over the weekend. I have confirmed that the IP address of the server has not changed.
Any ideas you can give would be appreciated.

Look in Oracle/Middleware/user_projects/epmsystem1/diagnostics/logs/ReportingAnalysis
specifically at stdout_console_default.log
And at other files recently modified in that dir if you do not see anything.
Post any relevant errors.
you might just try to kill off everything and make sure there are no processes running.
stop all services and assuming you are not root ,
"kill -9 -1" will kill absolutely everything running with your user id, including your shell. Log back in and try to start.

Hyperion Financial Reports Studio Error. Max No of connections exceeded.

I have encountered an error in FR Studio, it says Max No of Connections Exceeded.
It occured twice in this month, everytime it happens we need to restart Reporting and Analysis Framework. Can someone suggest where can I increase the max no of connections allowed?

You will have tun serviceconfig.sh under Hyperion_Home\products\Foundation\workspace\bin to bring up GUI,then From the menu available you will see Remote service configurator,select that and provide the credentials.After you login,there should RM1 and SB1.You will have to go o properties of RM1 and SB1 and then increase the connection.Restart is required for this to take affect.

Financial Reporting Studio - Suppress Shared Members During Entity Prompt

I am trying to create a Financial Reporting Studio report where the entity members that are displayed as a prompt only reflect the entities the user has access to with only one occurrence in the list. I have tried the following scenarios with no luck.
In Workspace, the Financial Reporting Preference, the Setup User POV option "Member Selection Displays" is set to "Only Members I Can Access" and not "All Members Regardless of Access".
The Financial Report is set up so that the user is prompted for the Entity so they can select multiple entities to run the report.
This works fine, except this is also displaying the shared members in the alternate hierarchies when responding to the Entity prompt.
As part of Defining the prompt, I have included the main entity structure in the "Choices List" in hopes that the shared members wouldn't display as an option to select, but this ends up displaying all of the entities in the hierarchy overriding what is the Financial Reporting Preference (acts like "All Members Regardless of Access"). I have also tried the Union of "Suppress shared members" and "Same level as" a level zero entity, but I'm still seeing all of the members of the main entity hierarchy, rather than a list of entities the user has access to.
Is there a way to display all of the entities only once that a user has access to during a prompt for a report? I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!!

I don't think there's a native way to do this in HFR. How could it be done other than through creating a custom selection list? Okay, I guess that is one way but it hurts my brain to think about maintaining it unless it could maybe be done through IDESCENDANTS of 1 and 2.
Here are two other thoughts:
1) Write a report against the Planning (I could be wrong about you using Planning as you specify Essbase, but the question is in the Planning board) tables to get this information. I don't know how to do it, but I'm guessing with some SQL gyrations it should be possible.
2) Stick an attribute against hierarchies 1 & 2 and report on them that way. You the designer already know that they are related. More maintenance on the front end, but a surefire way to get the member list out.

Reporting Studio (FR)

I am running report studio 11.1.2 and I would like to produce a HFM report with the account label as the header for each row. However, I would like to remove the first 2 characters of every account. Example DE1200 would show a heading of 1200. Basically a global command to remove DE from all headings. Any ideas?

I'm not sure if there is a good way to do this FR studio, but an alternate suggestion is to create your report with the first two letters in FR studio; then open your FR studio report with all the formatting into Excel (with the "refresh using workspace..." option checked if you want it to dynamically refresh), then on a second sheet of the Excel workbook link your cells to the FR studio report. Then use the excel format painter to bring in the formatting from your FR Studio report. The format painter messes up the column widths, but depending on how big your report is, this can be fixed rather quickly.
Of course, if the first two letters are always the same, just import the file without checking the "refresh" option and just do a mass replace of the letters.
The other alternative is to put the numeric part into a user defined field of the metadata item or as the actual description of the item and pull those into your custom header. In my opinion, both of these seem like a frivolous use of a powerful system .

Separate Reporting and Analysis from Workspace

In the prior releases we have dedicated a separate server for Financial Reporting modules (FR web, scheduler, print server, etc.). In 11.1.2.x, we have Hyperion Financial Reporting - Web Application and Hyperion Reporting and Analysis Framework - Web Application.
What is the difference between these two? If I want to dedicate a single host for only report generation/report viewing how, could I separate Framework and Web services apart from Workspace (which we want on a server with the rest of Foundation services (HSS/APS/EPMA/OHS/EAS, etc.). Currently I have Reporting and Analysis Framework and Hyperion Reporting and Analysis Framework - Web Application on one server and Financial Reporting - Web Application by itself on a second. Which service needs the most horsepower/resources when executing batches/books and/or the odd 'large report'? I think it was implied that the Web deployments can be on more than one server and one can load balance the two instances. But suppose I really want to isolate the report processing away from Foundation Services/ Is there a recommended way to do that?

No, I don't believe it will remove the apps and I have to change the target for each of the three apps to remove them from EPMSever0, and ensure they are in new managed server(s).
That's what I had to do when I separated Planning. (That was your hint, thanks)
