Vdbench 504, SNIA, and EPA
If you are NOT downloading Vdbench as part of the SNIA and EPA power measurement effort, I HIGHLY suggest you download version 503 instead, unless you have some spare time to help me make sure that everything NOT EPA/SNIA related is still working fine. In that case, if you find a problem with 504, rerun the same test with 503 to make sure it is indeed a 504 problem.

In collaboration between the Oracle, SNIA and EPA, new functionality has been added to Vdbench to support the SNIA Emerald Power Efficiency Measurement Specification.
The Vdbench 504 executables can be found at Vdbench Downloads
SNIA information can be found at http://snia.org/forums/green.
At some time in the near future the source code of Vdbench504 will also be placed on OTN, I will update this post as soon as that task has been completed.
The current plan is to use this OTN forum as a support vehicle for Vdbench, including any Vdbench related questions or support issues. Non-Vdbench related questions around the SNIA workload should be addressed to (still looking)
Once I figure out how to do it I'll assign Steven Johnson as a co-moderator for this Vdbench forum, Steve has been the main contact person with the SNIA, while I (Henk) has done the coding and testing, though Steve did come up with the wonderful new 'Hot Band' algorithm.
We will do our best to monitor this forum, though please understand that our workload and priorities may not allow us to respond to you immediately.
The main emphases of Vdbench 504 has been the inclusion of the new SNIA functionality. In theory all old existing Vdbench functionality should just continue to work, but, as I have learned after 42 years in this business, 'should' does not always mean 'will'. Please let us know if you find anything questionable.

This is Window's way of assuring that you do not accidentally overwrite your disk drives.

VDBench 504 Access Denied and Invalid Parameter
I am trying to run VDBench 504 on a Win7 install to apply the Jedec219 workload. My command string is:

With the drive (E:) formatted, I run in to the 10 error count with errorno: Windows System Error code 5: Access is denied.
With the drive partition deleted, the error changes to code 87:The parameter is incorrect.
If you have any insight, or see anything blatantly wrong with my attempts, I would appreciate your response in how to deal with this.

Hi all,
We have to create an EP Business package with web dynpro applications. How can we package the portal contents and web dynpro applications into a single sca/sda package?
As far as I know, the web dynpro EAR files can be converted into SDA files during the assembly process in CMS. The EPA files can be converted to SDA using command line tools of MAKe utilities. Thus there will be two SDA files. Then these SDA files has to be combined into an SCA archive.
Is this the right way do this? Can anyone help me with a better option if any?

There is no need to convert the .ear files into .sca or .sda as .ear file can also be deployed directly.
Also regarding the Package, you need to just export the package as a .epa file.

Why I cannot start Vdbench? Invalid or corrupt jarfile?
I tried to start Vdbench in my Windows7 laptop. I downloaded Vdbench 502 503 and 504, but I kept getting the same error message that it is a invalid or corrupt jarfile. I updated my JRE to the latest one, but it still didn't work.
Can someone tell me why?

Touchsmart IQ504 and windows 8 upgrade
I tried upgrading my IQ504 from Windows 7 to Windows 8 when it was first released and had no luck. Has anyone had any luck upgrading their 504 yet and if so anything specific I should know? Thanks!

According to the specs, this model shipped with Windows Vista 64-bit and was introduced for sale on or about 13-Jul-2008... making it over 5 years old. Due to its age, HP has no intention of providing specific support or drivers for this model. Please read HP's position below.

Hello, I just bought this product, but I'm experiencing an annoying issue... I connected the headset to my computer, it works, but I hear a background noise when a sound is transferred from the pc to the headset.
If no sound is reproduced, however, the noise is absent even though the headset is turned on.
How can I manage with this issue?I have the same issue.
1/ the noise can be heard with computers but also with a Nokia mobile phone,
2/ it still occurs after a reset of the headset,
3/ I bought two BH-504 headsets and one is working perfectly fine.
It may be a hardware failure on the headset so I'm going to bring it at a Nokia Care Center. -

I am using Adobe Acrobat X Professional and got a lot of book-scans with a doubleside (book) on one side (pdf). To read the books on my e-book-reader I would like to
i) cut all pages of an document (better: a lot of documents) at the half of the page
ii) sort the pages in the right order (page 1.1; page 1.2; page 2.1; ...)
iii) save the document
Because I have got a lot of books (and much more pages) it would be necessary that all this is done automatically. Do anybody knows a way to do this.. ? I heard that it should be possible to program javascript plug-ins for such things.. ?

It would involve making a copy of each PDF and a script could then add the pages from the copy to the original in the appropriate order (doc.insertPages: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.504.html), and then crop each page (doc..setPageBoxes: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.531.html) according to whether the page number is odd or even. You should then remove the data that's not visible due to cropping, which you can do with an existing Preflight fixup, which can also be scripted (doc.preflight: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.510.html), or manually (Document > Examine Document).

Thanks in advanceThere is no easy ways to detect sql injection. You should analyze activity against databases and work with developers to address it.
Basically, you can capture sql_completed/rpc_completed events in XEvent or SQL Trace and review them. Anything, which is not parameterized, could be the subject of injection attach (it depends on Client Code and implementation).
As the side note, script below provides you the list of the databases together with number of cached execution plans that were used just once. SQL Injection targets non-parameterized queries. So the databases with large number of single-used plans are more
likely to be affected. In any case, do not rely on output much - large number of single-used plans could be just the sign of bad design rather than being affected. As I said, you need to review client app code just to be sure.

How to Refer WebI Report in SAP Portal

I want to show one of the report created in Web Intelligence rich client in SAP portal. I have done the SSO part and imported the par files and changed the configuration in web.xml as per the documentation.
Now ! I have developed the report and it is available in my local machine in UserDocs folder. How can i refer this report in SAP portal now. What r the parameters i should provide ?
I have created the BO Iview in portal by selecting the BO Iview template, but couldn't understand what parameters to provide and how to refer my report which is there in my local machine.

Migrating from 32 bit server to 64 bit server

We have planned to migrate our portal server from 32 bit to 64 bit.
I need your help in identifying the tasks to be performed after the migration.
Migration will be done by a BASIS consultant.
My job would be to make sure that portal is up and running with all the settings same as it is on the 32 bit old server.
We are operating on EP 7.0 (2004s) SPS 13.
We are using LDAP for internal users and UME for external users.
EP system is connected to R/3 4.7 and BI 7.0 systems.
New system will have different IP address and logical name but same SID.

How to install Business Package for CRM 4.0
Hi,
I have downloaded the same business package but I don't know how to install it on EP6.0 SP16.
The business package is a .zip file and I don't think it would be accepted by the Portal Import or by SDM for deployment. Correct me if I am wrong.
Can you please list down the steps to install it on Portal ?
Any help on this would be appreciated. And points would surely be awarded.

The business package is a .zip file and it contains the following files and folders:
1) Two folders namely global and roles
2) .ivu, .pag, .par, .pkg, .tpl are the file extensions inside the zip
I don't think it would be accepted by the Portal Import or by SDM for deployment. Portal Import needs .pkg for EP5.0 and .epa for EP6.0. SDM needs .sda or .sca files for deployment.
Do you remember how did you deploy it or import it ? By the way, did you import it or deploy it ? Looking at the par files here, I am sure it has to be deployed. But I have never come across this .ivu, .pag and .pkg files for deployment. Secondly, I have never come across .par file in Portal Imports.
Any clue ?
Let me check if SDM accepts this .zip file.

Subject: Manufacturing Information Access Software System (MIASS)
This memo is to announce the development of a new plant- wide software system. We are currently building a data warehouse that will contain all plant manufacturing data. The program is referred to as the "Manufacturing Information Access Software System" (MIASS).
Next Monday at 9:00 there will be a meeting in which I will show MIASS. We will continue to hold demonstrations throughout the month so that all employees will have an opportunity to get a good look at MIASS.
As for the status of the implementation of the program, I have not addressed the networking aspects so currently only one person can be in MIASS at a time. This should change as MIASS expands.
Several people are using the program already and have come to depend on it. Just this morning I walked into a subordinate's office and was not surprised to find that he had his nose buried in MIASS. I've noticed that some of the less technical personnel are somewhat afraid of MIASS. Just last week, when asked to enter some information into the program, I had a secretary say to me "I'm a little nervous, I've never put anything in MIASS before." I volunteered to help her through her first time and when we were through she admitted that it was relatively painless and she was actually looking forward to doing it again. She went so far as to say that after using SAP and Oracle, she was ready to kiss MIASS.
I know there are concerns over the virus that was found in MIASS upon initial installation, but I am pleased to say the virus has been eliminated and we were able to save MIASS. In the future, however, protection will be required prior to entering MIASS.
We planned this database to encompass all information associated with the business. So as you begin using the program, feel free to put anything you want into MIASS. As MIASS grows larger, we envision a time when it will be commonplace to walk by an office and see a manager hand a paper to an employee and say "Here, stick this in MIASS."
This program has already demonstrated great benefit to the company during recent OSHA and EPA audits. After requesting certain historical data the agency representatives were amazed at how quickly we provided the information. When asked how the numbers could be retrieved so rapidly our Environmental Manager proudly stated "Simple, I just pulled them out of MIASS".Everyone has a MIASS...
The trick is to validate all input, encode all output and regularly apply patches from the software vendors -
How generate class histogram before/after GC (JVM 1.6.0.17 only JRE instal)
Hi - looking for suggestions on how can generate a class histogram before a stop-the-world GC when
using a Solaris 10 Sparc platform with java version 1.6.0.17 with only the JRE installed.
I know about -XX:+HeapDumpBeforeFullGC/-XX:+HeapDumpAfterFullGC, but that only available in 1.6.0.18.
Also, this box only has the JRE installed, so can not use: jmap -histo 'pid' ...
When using -XX:+PrintClassHistogram, we do get the histogram AFTER the GC ...(unfortunately, not what I
want)...
I have a very large application running on a SPARC platform (Solaris10) with 16Gig RAM I'm trying to
debug/reduce-stop-world-GC times. Current, we observer stop-the-world GCs in 60+ second ranges,
we need to reduced these times....
The issue is that, "occasionally" there are a hugh number of objects being rapidly created and they
live a very short period of time, a large amount of the RAM is cleaned up (below, jstat in one case
shows 5Gigs is cleaned up) in the stop-the-world GC (so don't believe it is a object/memory leak) -
apps is going a bit nuts, trying to figure out why- or - try to determine if there are JVM parameters
could use to reduce the amount of time it takes when these stop-the-world GC occur...
Any suggestions welcomed...

Not sure which objects are being created/then die - thinking if can get a before GC and
after GC histograms, should be able to tell which objects these are then can track down the "problem".

using -XX:+UseCMSInitiatingOccupancyOnly ?

CheersI'm trying to debug/reduce-stop-world-GC times.Put it on a box that you can install whatever you want.
Set the max heap size to be a low value. Start at 500 meg and move it down. You want to get to the point where the app works but where it starts thrashing very soon (with little load.)
Then debug/profile away using appropriate tools.
Once you have an idea, up the max heap on that box, increase the load, and validate the idea.

I use iWeb to blog, not blogger or wordpress. I know that there are iPad apps for those sites so that blogs can be updated when away from the computer...is there an app that works specifically with iWeb?
