Vector hexagon outline only?

So sorry if this is not the right forum for this type of question...but...
Im trying to make a vector shape... hexagon... yeah, i know there is the default shape maker for hexagon, and just change the sides to 6...
I want to have just a 20px outline of this shape, in vector format...
I tried creating a path, then stroking it... but its not vector...
see what im getting at... I just cant seem to figure it out, and i know its easy...
thanks

If you stroke a shape in Photoshop, the stroke is bitmapped, but it is recalculated from a vector shape so you can scale this. It is different than in illustrator, as the stroke is in bitmapped resolution versus vector resolution (eg: difference between 300 dpi and 3386 dpi for out put to a typical expose scanner)
Maybe you want to be able  to select the inner and outer paths, or save you Photoshop document as Photoshop pdf to keep shapes vector. Also Photoshop rounds the corners on strokes(especially can be seen on thick strokes). You may want to look into illustrator, object >> path >> outline stroke and copy the paths into photoshop as a shape layer.

  • Can Flash export VECTOR or outlined text in PDF,Ai or EPS?

    We have a web based flash interface that allows customer to
    design a custom product online. The problem is that the flash then
    creates a PDF and that PDF never ACCURATELY matches what the
    customer designed in the flash application. The line and letter
    spacing is always off. I think the problem would be fixed IF we
    could create or export a PDF or a Ai file or a EPS file from FLASH
    that did NOT have the editable text. At the moment of EXPORT it
    needs to convert all text to vector or outlined text. That would
    alleviate the FONT problems. Does anyone know of a plug-in or some
    method for doing this?

    Why do you want to change it to a png for placement? Just place it as the original .ai eps file you got. You never want to use a jpg, png or gif in a document that's going to be printed. The minute you change it to a png or jpg you're going to lose resolution. That's why it's pixelated

  • Outlines only of vector shapes?

    I have a vectorized photo that I want to print out so that only B&W outlines of these shapes are left, no colors. Another way to explain it, I want to only have the boundaries between the color shapes left in the form of thin black lines. I don't know Illustrator and I don't understand what a path is,  so I hope I can understand the reply.

    Select all and apply strokes and fill with "none"

  • Import from iPhone shows outlines only, can't import

    This has been a recurring issue for me for months. Here is a summary.
    iPhoto 09 v8.0.4 (latest) sees my iPhone but the import dialog shows only outlines of the new photos and won't import to my MacBook Pro. I have tried suggestions in other threads including repairing permissions and creating a new iPhoto library but it still shows only outlines. I have attempted to import using Image Capture and it fails to save anything although it does see the iPhone just like iPhoto and Aperture.
    This has happened with my previous 3G iPhone and now with my 3G S. It also happens if i try to import into Aperture.
    At this point I am suspecting there is something corrupted in the Macbook Pro because when I connect my iPhone to my MacBook Air it sees everything fine.
    Where should I look for the problem? I want to avoid restoring everything if possible. I just upgraded to iLife 09 but the problem existed prior to that.

    I'm having the exact same issue. I'm currently trying the Image Capture route. I hate restoring my phone as I'm not sure if this is a long term fix or not. I'm exploring different options now and will let you know if I figure anything out.
    Edit: figured a bit out– the "invisible" files I'm seeing are the files transferred from apps like hipstamatic, tilt shift generator, and camera+. I'll try contacting the devs of one of these apps to see if it's a common issue.
    Edit #2: Figured out the rest. The "invisible" files had nothing to do with my problem. My problem was lack of hard drive space. Apparently 4GB (well over the amount needed to import the photos) wasn't enough. I deleted some files which bumped it to 10GB and now they import just fine. Hope this helps.

  • Preview - Outline only appears?

    I wonder if somebody might be able to help?
    Issue:
    Anywhere throughout the system where a preview is meant to appear or indeed the Preview application is used it opens but does not appear.  For example, if I try to open a PDF or a JPEG through preview the file opens however just an outline/silhouette appears and the document cannot be read (picture attached).  This is the same in Finder if I click on a file, the usual small preview does not appear.
    Solutions tried:
    I restarted the computer several times and same issue appears.  I also repaired disk permissions but still the same issue persists.
    Any suggestions/pointers to fixing this would be welcomed!
    Thank you!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
    You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
    In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
    You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
    Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
    ☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
    ☞ Paste into the window of another application.
    ☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
    ☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
    The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
    to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Cannot retrieve all vector objects - reading only last line .. Please help

    <pre>
    When I test the vector in the method that adds the elements, each line is returned. Testing the vector in the method getData(), all items are returned within the while loop, but the test returns only the last line of in the vector. Can anyone help me out and let me know what I'm doing wrong.
    Here's a summary of what I'm doing and the code follows.....
    My bean class:
    - creates a vector and adds several lines to the vector
    - using StringTokenizer and Enumeration, parses the data and checks to see if the line has the required amount of tokens (which is 4). If so, then the string is passed to my main class
    In the main class, the string is parsed into its appropriate attribute and then the required ones are displayed in the browser.
    //Vector class bean
    public SpecBean()
    public Vector addData()
    vecdata.addElement ("3|4||");
    vecdata.addElement ("2|3||1200");
    vecdata.addElement ("1|2|Q|");
    vecdata.addElement ("4|2|U|4356");
    return vecdata;
    public String getData()
    StringTokenizer st;
    String record = new String();
    Enumeration enumdata = vecdata.elements();
    while (enumdata.hasMoreElements())
    record = enumdata.nextElement().toString();
    System.out.println (record);
    st = new StringTokenizer( record, "|");
    int numberOfTokens = st.countTokens();
    if (numberOfTokens < 4)
    record = "Incomplete Data";
    return record;
    // end class...
    //begin main class -- this is a servlet which is why the
    //out.println statements are there
    try {
    SpecBean specs = new SpecBean();
    specs.getItemListing();
    token = new StringTokenizer ((String)specs.getData(), "|");
    out.println ("<table width=\"100%\" border=1>");
    out.println("<tr>");
    out.println ("<td width=\"40%\">");
    while (token.hasMoreTokens())
    String id = token.nextToken();
    String orderNum = token.nextToken();
    String name = token.nextToken();
    String confNum = token.nextToken();
    out.println (title + "</td>");
    out.println ("<td width=\"20%\" align=\"right\">" + "$" + price + "</td>");
    out.println ("<td width=\"40%\">" + notes);
    //end main class
    Thank you.

    <pre>
    My apologies. What I was looking to do was return EVERY line from the vector that had an equivalent of 4 tokens and no less. I just realized that the sample data I had entered into the vector only had one line w/ 4 tokens. When this is modified and there are 2+ lines that contain 4 tokens, the only line that is retrieved is the very last line. So if the data in the vector was:
    public Vector addData()
    vecdata.addElement ("3|4|rtd|222");
    vecdata.addElement ("2|3||1200");
    vecdata.addElement ("1|2|QsT|");
    vecdata.addElement ("4|2|U|4356");
    return vecdata;
    public String getData()
    StringTokenizer st;
    String record = new String();
    Enumeration enumdata = vecdata.elements();
    while (enumdata.hasMoreElements())
    record = enumdata.nextElement().toString();
    System.out.println (record);
    st = new StringTokenizer( record, "|");
    int numberOfTokens = st.countTokens();
    if (numberOfTokens < 4)
    record = "Incomplete Data";
    return record;
    The output to the browser is
    4 2 U 4356
    and not
    3 4 rtd 222
    4 2 U 4356
    I did some print statements throughout addData() and getData() to see if all of the objects in the vector were still there and everything checked out until I hit the end of the getData(). Before 'return record' the print statement returned '4 2 U 4356' only. I'm not sure what I have missed to have the getData() method return only one matching line and not all of them.
    Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

  • Creating vector based outlines of text

    There's a really great effect I'm trying to achieve where you take a shape and morph it into another shape, or often text.
    There is a simple command in AE, like illustrator, where you simply "create outlines." AE also does a great job of taking one shape and morphing it into another just by keyframing the bezier points in shape one and then shape 2. It interpolates perfectly.
    I've got pretty big challenges making this happen with Motion. Anyone know what I'm talking about and is there a way to do this I'm missing?
    In other words, I want to be able to firstly turn text into vector points.
    Secondly, I want to be able to copy points within a layer. Example, take 10 points from layer 2 and copy them into a pre-existing layer 1 rather than draw then having to take the preexisting layer 1 points and move them into the same shape as layer 2.
    Can I copy control points like this?

    No....and....uh....no.
    I'm afraid this is an area where Motion is far behind AE. Currently there is no way to create vector shapes with control points from text in Motion. There is also no built-in way to morph one vector shape into another although perhaps someone has developed a plug-in to do that.
    There are a couple of tricks that you can do to fake it a bit, or certainly the manual way of morphing one vector shape into another, but nothing automated that I'm aware of.

  • My scroll bar is not working properly. It works if I click the outline only. How do I fix this?

    I have tried reinstalling the lastest version but it did not fix the problem. I am running windows 7 on a hp envy. My scroll bar was working fine before the firefox version 4 update. Also the up and down arrows do not work unless I click on the outline of the boxes either. Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated as this is vary annoying.

    Does your MacBook have a removable battery?
    If so, try removing the battery and running just on the power adapter. Don't do anything too important as the computer will power off if the power adapter comes loose! Just do this for a few minutes to see if your trackpad works any better.
    If your battery isn't removable, run your hand over the bottom of the computer - or run a level over it if you have one - to see if it's flat.
    In either case, it's possible your battery has swollen and is applying pressure on the connection for the trackpad, which in turn means the trackpad won't work as expected.

  • How to be left with an outline only

    I am new to photoshop but have been told that you can take all the colour etc out of a photo, just leaving a "pencil" like outline.  I would like to do this to save sketching a picture out for watercolour painting.  Can anybody tell me how to do this?

    You can also use the Filter Gallery to achieve a line drawing.

  • What format to export outline only?

    I have deleted all background from attached image so that it exists in layer as black only.
    Is it possible to export this layer, without white background, as some sort of image file (PNG, JPEG, etc.) so that it's smallest possible filesize?
    The idea is to use it on a website where background color can be varied.
    thanks,

      If your black drawing is already on a transparent layer simply switch off the background and othe layers and use:
    File >> Save For Web
    Choose PNG24 as the file type and that will preserve the transparency.
    Otherwise use:
    File >> New >> Blank File
    Set your dimensions and choose transparent as the background color. Then make your drawing and save for web using PNG24.

  • Import dialog shows iPhone twice, and photo list only shows outlines

    In Aperture 2.1.2 I have been able to import photos from my iPhone until just recently. Now the import dialog shows three choices of import devices/locations, Local Disk, RJH iPhone and a second RJH iPhone. If I select either iPhone the main window displays outlines of 7 images but no picture information except for the filename. If I actually try to import the pics it says 'Import completed with errors, the following files were not imported' and it lists all the filenames. One of the iPhone devices shows up in the import list EVEN WHEN THE iPHONE IS NOT CONNECTED!
    I'm sure there is a plist or something that has the list of import devices bu I have not been able to find it despite extended web and support searches.
    Anyone heard of this?

    OK, I have since discovered that the second iPhone device is listed only when my iPhone is plugged into a DIFFERENT USB port on my MBP. If I plug it into the same port I usually use, it is only listed one. However, both Aperture and iPhoto still see one iPhone device whether it is plugged in or not, and both show images with outlines only and won't import photos. So strange

  • Vector takes only takes Objects to add to it.

    my question is that vector class add only object then in the following program i add constant int value to it it gives output as i given below the program.then how it can happened? plz tell

    because of a new feature in java 1.5 called autoboxing which automatically converts between primitive types and their wrapper types as needed. also, since you're using java 1.5 now, it's no longer true that Vectors can only have Objects added to them. read about generics, too

  • Problem creating vector mask with Pen Tool

    Using Photoshop CS5, Mac OS 10.6.8
    I'm trying to create a simple vector mask using the pen tool to create a curved line at the top and bottom of a photo. Here's what I'm doing:
    1. Create a new layer and select it.
    2. Select Pen tool.
    3. Choose "work path" by selecting button at top menu.
    4. I draw my shape with the pen tool.
    5. Now comes the problem... I can not select this shape, or assign it a color. When I create a clipping mask, it does not recognize my path. When I throw away the layer, the shape is still there in outline only. What am I missing here? I'm familiar with doing this in Illustrator, but I don't understand how it works in PSD.
    I need some help, please.
    Thanks.

    The main thing i use paths for in photoshop is extracting objects from photos.
    Other uses include stroking paths with the paint tools. For example, if you had
    a powerline to remove, one could trace the line with the pen tool and then stroke
    the path with spot healing brush set to content aware fill.

  • Vector Distort

    Clients has a simple vector shape outline to distort. It is
    an Illustrator file. I import to Flash but how do I distort? I know
    flash only distorts shapes but since this is a vector graphic,
    shouldn't I be able to distort it?
    What is the work around?

    you should be able to distort it after breaking it apart -
    right now, imported as an AI file, it
    probably is grouped - select it, hit Ctrl + B - then use the
    free transform tool's sub-selection
    tools to distort it.
