Venn diagram in BEX

Is venn diagram possible in BEX
For example Total no of vendors GGn = 100
Total no of vendors DHR =50
Common vendors between these 2 plants is = 20
Then I want the venn diagram for this

You cant do a venn diagram in BEx. But instead, you can have another key figure and fill it in in BEx with virtual key figure to calculate the common customers betwen plants.

Hello - Does anyone know how I can color the middle of a two circle Venn Diagram in InDesign CS6?

I essentially do what Ellis recommends, although I usually use a somewhat different method:
    Draw two circles
    Copy and paste in place
    Select the topmost circles
Use Object -> Pathfinder -> Intersect, which creates the green object in Ellis' screenshot
Then grab the bottom-most circles and use Object -> Pathfinder -> Exclude Overlap
Lastly, with your Exclude Overlap circles still selected, use Release Compound Paths.
This has the same effect, but I don't love the anchor-points-and-scissors method myself. Many years ago I taught myself Illustrator with a flaky mouse on an irregular surface; it left me with a pathological hatred of tasks that require fiddly mouse-work. So I have keyboard shortcuts for all of the above, and can select all of the objects without having to very carefully mouse over a path. If you're fast with fiddly mouse-work, Ellis' method will probably work better for you than mine.

  • Please help start with creating venn diagram

I was wondering if anyone can give me suggestions on what type of java functionalities, resources, etc. to look up for creating a venn diagram application. I want to be able to click on regions and have it highlight and unhighlight. I also want to be able to drag and move circles around the canvas or window. Previously, I had just drawn on a canvas set circles at set locations; then, I had to go through many calculations just to get the area of the two circle overlap. There has to be an easier way... especially when getting to 3 or more circles, calculations would be more complicated. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, the AWT-package contains much useful stuff regarding this topic!
If you can manipulate these classes, you are almost there!

  • The "infallible" backup system crashes and burns; how to transfer the data?

After five years of exemplary, error-free service, my old Powerbook G4 1Ghz finally crashed during a backup to an external hard drive. I just bought a new Macbook Pro (arrived September 16th) and want to transfer the data from the old Pro to the new Pro. Herein lies the complex problem, and Migration Assistant and a firewire cable won't solve it.
When the old Pro died, I was maintaining what I believed to be an infallible backup system (ha). I did nightly backups to two different external hard drives; one was a USB LACIE drive, the other a firewire LACIE drive. I used Carbon Copy Cloner to do a merge contents backup on the USB drive and a file-level bootable clone to the firewire drive. Surely nothing could go wrong. Oh, one only needs to think of the Titanic and say, “Something did.”
The old Pro could only backup to the USB drive when using an express card that added USB 2.0 connections (the old Pros have USB 1.1 and they’re too slow). But whenever the express card was plugged into my old Pro and it fell asleep without my first powering the card off, the computer crashed. This was no problem; I just powered off the card before putting it to sleep and ignored the fact that the computer on rare occasion acted buggy with the USB express card plugged in. Well, on the fateful night in question, the computer did its backup to the USB drive and then fell asleep while it was still plugged in (this is what its energy saver told it to do, unfortunately). When I tried to turn the computer back on, a black box appeared in the upper left hand corner with a bunch of random-seeming white text and the concluding message, “Waiting for remote debugger.” The computer was frozen and a cold reboot was the only option.
My old Pro would never be the same again.
I tried to boot it up. Sometimes it did so, but then would suddenly show a red screen and crash. It kept crashing, sometimes just powering off immediately. So I brought out good old Disk Warrior, booted up with that, repaired permissions, repaired disk, and rebuilt the directory. I also booted up with the Tiger OS X install CD and fixed permissions that way just for good measure. The computer then started up fine. I thought I was back to normal! Celebration time! Not. The USB drive that I had backed up to would not mount anymore. So I, seeing that the computer appeared to be back to normal, just plugged in second external hard drive--the firewire--and began the bootable clone. It delved into making the clone without a hitch and I went off to work happy and content that I would have an up-to-date backup soon.
Lo and behold, when I came back from work, the backup to the firewire drive hung midway through. It had done nothing but wiped the entire drive and copied about 500 mb of data to it before freezing. I tried again several times and, believe it or not, only got vastly improved results when the offending express card was actually plugged into the computer. By this mysterious and probably risky method, I was able to get some data off. But only about 1/10 of the whole. The old Pro always would crash before more than 5 gigs of data or so can be transferred.
Starting from around that time, the offending old Pro began to exhibit hideous popping, gurgling, grating, clicking, swiping, and other sounds from the left hand side of the computer—where I imagine the hard drive is. These sounds can be quite loud and sometimes even sound like tempered UFO tones beamed down to the computer. Sometimes they aren’t present at all and the computer acts fine, until a certain file or folder is accessed, and then they start again and the computer hangs, going from fine to disastrous in an instant.
I took out the offending express card and launched it away and took the USB drive and put it on another computer. It still would not mount. I finally got it to unlock (it’s a fingerprint-access safe drive) and ran Disk Warrior on it and was able to get as much data off it as I could. But it appears that a huge chunk of data was simply missing from the drive, whether from Disk Warrior having to delete data when it rebuilt the directory or from damage when the computer died while backing up to this drive, I don’t know.
So now I went from a supposedly infallible backup system of two rotating external hard drives to potentially losing 5 years of utterly critical work!
I tried starting up the old Pro in target disk mode with my new Pro. At first, this appeared to have very promising results because there was no grating or popping sounds from my old Pro when I did this. I began a data transfer with glee. But no luck; the old Pro always eventually hangs and the new Pro doesn’t even recognize it (the icon for the old Pro disappears as if I unmounted it).
Sometimes the Old Pro can still boot up and seem to act fine; it can sit like that indefinitely, I'd guess; but if the disk is actually read and written to enough, it always fails. I am using it as little as possible now (i.e. not at all) so as not to exacerbate the problem any more than it already has been.
Two quick notes that might further explain the situation: two weeks before the crash happened, I used iDefrag to defragment the drive. The night before the crash happened, I did a lot of work on my computer while on a bumpy trip on the Long Island Railroad. The computer acted fine throughout all this, but perhaps the bumpiness or the defragmentation contributed to this problem.
I must get the data off. This dead/dying hard drive doesn’t just contain mere photos and music libraries and nifty applications. I’m talking completed and incomplete novel manuscripts, lecture notes, lesson plans, published and to-be-published articles, a massive thesis, and much more totaling literally thousands upon thousands of pages and representing more than 5 years of graduate and professional research and work. For me, the stakes are critically high. Thank you for reading this Hero's Journey of a post.

    Good news!
Imagine a Venn diagram with four interlapping circles. The circles are:
    1. Catastrophically exploded hard drive
    2. Catastrophically annihilated external hard drive used for incremental backups
    3. Catastrophically wiped cleaned external hard drive used for bootable clones
    4. Email, CD, and iPod backups
With a little shake, rattle and roll and other craziness you do with a hard drive with failed bearings, I got #1 working briefly, thank goodness.
With Disk Warrior and figuring out how to surpass a fingerprint-activated security feature, I got #2 working in a limited fashion.
With some workarounds, I got some use out of #3.
    #4 just is.
The interlap of these 4 things produced about 95-99% or so of my data, including all critical items. It was a disorganized mess I just spent two days organizing, but I am back up and running without having to use expensive data backup services. I am slightly bothered by that slight bit of missing data, but from what I can tell, it amounts to nothing more than a brief sketch of a lesson plan, a song or two from the iTunes store, and maybe a handful of attachments. Nothing to spend big bucks recovering, in other words.
Now I will substitute my "infallible" backup system with a new one:
    1. Time capsule/time machine
    2. Complete online backups with Mozy
    3. Occasional bootable clones to the external hard drive I have that didn't get damaged.
I think this will be the ticket!
    Thank you all.

  • 1-to-1 Relationship Between UI and subVI Data Cluster

    Discussion continued from here.
    In summary:

"Profile Running" and "Profile Complete" are mutually exclusive, no?
Wouldn't it be better to have a single enum named "Profile" with three
elements "Idle, Running, and Complete" for the underlying datatype?
Having two mutually exclusive pieces of data in an underlying datatype
is among my favorite of code smell indicators.
Also, the underlying datatype probably only needs "Forward Miles" and
"Reverse Miles" since "Total Miles" is derived. Exclude "Total Miles"
from the underlying cluster and just show the sum for display.
    Another
argument against using a 1:1 relationship: the customer now wants to
multiply speed by -1 if Direction==Reverse and not show the Direction
enum on the UI. The data source (the VI that generates the data) would
need to be updated using your 1:1 relationship. Using underlying data
different from the display data, only the data client (the UI front
panel) needs to change. I would be much more inclined to service the UI
FP for a cosmetic upgrade rather than tracing the data source back
through the HMI framework, through TCP, back to the RT, back to FPGA...
    Basically...
I question a perfectly overlapped Venn Diagram where the set of data
shown to the user equals the dataset used for underlying data
processing/messaging/storing. The underlying datatype should be as
stripped and streamlined as possible, while the display datatype can
inherit all the flair and post-processing that Upper Management wants to
    see in a UI.

The data you see maps directly to tags on the PLC.

***EDIT: By all means, please start a discussion on the LabVIEW board so we're not hindered by the Exchange's interface. ***
    My long delayed response:
The indicators you see map to tags on the PLC.  That is, we were connecting through OPC to an application on a PLC that was written ~15 years ago.  I have a VI where I read a bunch of SVs (Shared Variables).  Each SV is bound through OPC to a PLC tag.  In the interest of disclosure, two 16-bit tags are required to represent each 32-bit mileage number.  In the same subVI, I read each set of mileage tags, convert, and feed my subVI cluster indicator.  The same is true for wheel size:  three bits get converted to the enum.  Regardless, though, I have one subVI that reads SVs and outputs the same "underlying data" cluster that is seen on the UI.  The UI has a "Faults" cluster full of fault Booleans that follows the same logic.  When the user configures a profile of steps, they do so via an array of "step" clusters (although the cluster look is hidden for aesthetics).  It's the same thing as above except we write tags instead of reading them.
In my case, each set of 16-bit tags is worthless as two 16-bit numbers.  They are only useful as a 32-bit mileage, so I don't pass around the raw 16-bit data.  The same is true for the wheel size bits. My software can just as easily (in fact, more easily) operate on the enum.  So, the underlying cluster from the subVI is programmatically useful and applicable to the UI.  I would guess that the same is true for a lot of RT applications, where the read VI can have some intelligence to process the data into useful / applicable clusters.
There are going to be cases where "Upper Management" would like to see "flair and post-processing" as you say.  Your speed illustration is a good example of this.  There are also instances where the cluster works fine on the UI the way it is (like this one and many others that we've seen).

Did you mean "not" mutually exclusive?  We combined 3 "dependent" (not mutually exclusive) Booleans into an enum for Wheel Size, as I mentioned above.  Not sure now why we went the other way with these two (this was 2 years ago).  In any event, with regard to UI representation, I still pass a cluster out of my read-raw-data-and-process-into-cluster subVI up to the applicable queued state machines and to the UI.

    <LabBEAN response
Working with applications written in ladder logic, it is not uncommon to see separate Booleans that indicate the same condition.  This seems to be especially true when safety is a concern.  That is, ladder Coil A ON and Coil B OFF == switch open.  Coil A OFF and Coil B ON == switch closed.  If you ever read OPC tags from Coil A and Coil B and the two are the same, you know the ladder is in transition (hasn't updated the tags).  Throw that point out and read again.
I, too, appreciate our back-and-forths.  Good discussion.

Separate Views from Implementation for Strict Type Defs

Thanks for replying, Jason. Let me see if I can craft a coherent response after getting back up to speed...
    (...later)
OK, let's go. I'm going to fully agree with you that LabVIEW imposes a strange constraint unique from most other languages where a Typedef defines two things: the underlying data structure, and also the view. A Strict Typedef should be more accurately deemed the Datatype-View-Definition, and a Typedef would be more accurately called the Datatype-Definition-and-View-Suggestion. And to be clear, there are two types of views: the programmer's view (a SubVI look and feel) and the UI view (what the user and Upper Management sees). (Finally, I admit I'm ignorant whether view or View is more a more appropriate term)
Linking the programmer's view to the datatype is perfectly fine with me, and based on your original Idea I think we both agree that's OK. I think we run into a disagreement where you have loosely tied the concept of "Strict TD" to "UI View".
Historically, I have used Strict Typedefs for the programmer's view (SubVIs), since I like to maintain a "functional UI" at the SubVI level. I don't use type definitions on User Interfaces - only Controls. That's the reason your Idea does not appeal to me, but perhaps if your Idea were implemented, it would appeal to me since View and Implementation would be divorced as separate entities within the Type Definition. (Does that classify as a Catch-22?) So, you're Idea is fundamentally suggesting that Type Definition .ctl files should be more accurately called "a container that holds both a Type Definition and any number of View Definitions as well".
Fundamentally, I think I finally understand the gist of your Idea: "let's ditch this weird constraint where View and Datatype are inextricably defined together in one file", and for that, I'll give Kudos to the original Idea. I got really tied up with the example you used to present the Idea, and plus I'm still learning a lot.
    Additional thoughts:
This Idea reminds me of another: Tag XControl as Class View
We've still got some arguing to do on a 1:1 relationship between underlying datatype and UI presentation, so put your mean face back on:
Since our last conversation, interestingly, I have been on an anti-Typedef kick altogether.  Why don't you drop some feedback on my attempt at a completely typedef-free UI framework?

  • Bridge Viewer/Client image rating prog.

I think I may have mentioned something similar in part of another post regarding how useful distributed cache could be. But a big workflow problem has arisen, so I shall specifically request this 'feature'.
At the moment I have over 50G of images to be sorted thru. They are all stills from a film I worked just worked on as well as the behind the scenes stuff. All shot in Canon RAW. The various producers and director want to look at images and select what they want further work on.
I will name, label, keyword [and preselect images I think are best], but still give them everything to choose from. They will then sort out what they want me to process/composite b4 outputting into PSDs, JPEGs, TIFFs etc for various media distributions. They are several hundred miles away so sitting around a computer whilst 3 people argue over which images to select is impractical, nor something I need/have time to partake in.
For the producers to view files they need a cut down Bridge that simply allows them to look at the various digital image file formats [with new types updated automatically] and rate/label/annotate images, in essence Acrobat Reader but for image folders. Bridge Browser maybe, Extensis I believe has a Browser to go with Portfolio, which seems to be like what I mean. Just had a brief try of Portfolio, yuk.
There is no way they will buy Bridge as you can only do so as part of PS which they don't want or even have any use/need for. All they need to do is look at images and place a ranked tick or cross next to them, maybe add a note and send just the amended cache/info back. This could then be added to my own sorting and most definitely not replacing it - Photographer Sort, Producer Sort, Director sort. And maybe the sorts could be combined Venn diagram style to quickly see what we all agreed on.
Many of the people I deal with do not have/need PS, in fact that's why they employ me, hence the need to have some simple, idiot proof way of them viewing images and labelling/annotating them. Being able to view keywords used with all folders to quickly search for say all Tom Cruise but not Jamie Foxx pics they can.
The only other option is to JPEG everything into separate folders and send them down, they shortlist images and stick them in a folder and send them back. I then have to match them with original RAW files. A couple of tedious unnecessary days wasted file sorting.
    Any workflow suggestions gratefully received.

You did not mention what version you are using?
In CS3 use the filterpanel and in top of this panel select the small icon
with up and down arrow, in this drop down menu choose sort by date created.
This will give you the natural sort order with date including time in hours
    minute and seconds.
In CS4 you can also use the filter panel and choose date created from the
list or use the path bar and click on the sort by line to choose from date
    created.
One condition is essential for a correct sort order, the time and date set
on the different camer's should be correct and identical
Excuse the cross-posting on two forums -- I didn't realize Bridge has a
    separate forum....
I'd like to sort a large folder full of files by the time of image creation.
Files were made of an event on several cameras and I'd like to synch them in
order to create a slideshow that makes sense to the viewer/client.  Many
    thanks in advance for help.

  • MINUS Operator in OBIEE 11g

    Hi all ,
I have a requirement to use MINUS operator in a column of a report . Since it is available for two separate criteria , Could someone suggest how to perform the same in OBIEE 11g for a column.
the conditions to be implemented in a column are
    select count(*) from (
    select distinct trx.shipment_header_id
    from
    F_ERP_PO_RECEIPTS_TRX trx
    where   trx.transaction_type = 'RECEIVE'
    MINUS
    select distinct rec.shipment_header_id
    from
    where   trx.transaction_type = 'DELIVER').
How can i perform these conditions for a column of a report .
    Reg,
    Niv D

    Hi Niv D,
I guess this can be done as we have union, union all and minus available.
once you select the required subject area say SA for the below query,
    select distinct trx.shipment_header_id
    from
    F_ERP_PO_RECEIPTS_TRX trx
    where   trx.transaction_type = 'RECEIVE'
on the right side of the criteria you can see a + symbol with venn diagram. once you click on it, it gives you an option to select the next SA for
    select distinct rec.shipment_header_id
    from
    where   trx.transaction_type = 'DELIVER').
once you selected that, you can see the criteria changes accordingly.
there you change to union or minus.
once you have the conditions for both, make the layout as pivot and apply count on the column. you are there with the result,
I tried earlier with union but not with minus. but this should work.

  • Help! I seem to have got myself into a terrible mess with catalogues, etc.

    Morning all,
I have an issue which is causing me endless grief:
Recently, I upgraded from 3.0 to 3.4 and on the same day tried converting all my RAW files to .dng in the belief that this would save me hard disc space and allow me an extra degree of security (having the changes written into the file). However, during this conversion of 36,000 files, there was a power cut and the catalogue became corrupted, so I can no longer return to that catalogue.
No problem. I simply re-imported all my files to my HD from my external back-up drive and added them to my catalogue, causing many thousands of duplicate files, spread across different folders. The catalogue doesn't contain any duplicates, however.
(I would like to point out that, in my defence I was, following surgery, acting under the influence of some very heavy pain killers when I made the decision to do all of the above. It semed like a good idea at the time.)
Now this has completely maxed out my internal drive and I don't know how to remove the duplicate files from the HDD except to go through them manually, one-by-one, which isn't really an option. I could just swap out the HDD for a new one, but would that lose me all the work I'd done on files imported since?
Can anyone recommend any software for doing this, or a routine within LR that could save me all my changes, or am I just going to have to face up to losing a whole lot of work here?
I really would appreciate some help with this as it's putting a strain on my ability to work and, as a result, my marriage too (really!) So, please save me from the divorce lawyers!
    Nick.

    Hal,
Yes, I see what you're getting at, and that would work if all of the duplicates weren't in just one LR catalogue folder. That's 30,000+ duplicates in one folder. I'd go ahead and delete them all, but the trouble is that it also contains copies of files that aren't in the catalogue that I'd like to retain access too. I can't see a way round that, but maybe you can. A venn diagram would probably be really helpful at this point, I think...
    Frank,
That's the technique that works if there are dupes in the catalogue, right? I don't have those.
But you're right about pain, and pain-killers: makes you do some crazy stuff. I'm only just getting round to putting the pieces back together after the removal of some very troublesome wisdom teeth; I can't imagine how much worse it would have been if I'd been crippled with back pain.
I think what's happened here is that I've reached an understanding of the problem without the actual answer coming from you guys - and I mean no disrespect whatsoever. It's forced me to think VERY hard about my system and how I back-up - or not - and how best to proceed from now on.
So, having read a lot of David Marx's blog posts, I think I'll be folloing his example in 3-2-1 back-up procedure in future. I'll also be having a "Year Zero" event on my workstation and changing to Win7, re-naming my HDDs in order and switching to an external HDD for running my catalogue and image files side-by-side, which will make syncing with the new laptop much easier.
Lastly, given that sorting through 30,000+ dupes in one folder and then checking them against the contents of all my other folders could take a year, I've decided to go the whole hog and archive almost all of my catalogue except my folio images (they get built into my website from the Lightroom Galleries plugin, so I need access to them on a regular basis) which I can re-work in less time than I would spend trawling through the whole HDD, and start afresh with a proper, logical system.
This has been a painful and potentially costly lesson, but it could have been so much worse. At least I have my RAW archive...
    Thanks once again,
    Nick.
EDIT. Wait. Maybe I have it. Hal, (or anyone) could you let me know if you think this might work:
Delete the entire folder of 'duplicates and everything else', then reimport the contents of my RAW archive into the top level LR folder. LR should then auto-reject suspected duplicates, and replace the non-duplicate contents of the folder that were lost when I deleted the dupes-and-all folder.
    D'you reckon that'd do it?

  • [svn] 2312: CursorManager: New functionality and a fix for SDK-15029

    Revision: 2312
    Author: [email protected]
    Date: 2008-06-30 17:24:01 -0700 (Mon, 30 Jun 2008)
    Log Message:
CursorManager: New functionality and a fix for SDK-15029
    * NEW: When the mouse leaves a window/stage where a cursor is set, the cursor no longer sits on the edge of the screen until the mouse comes back into the window, it disappears.
    * NEW: In AIR, when the mouse leaves an active window and glides over an inactive window (without giving it focus) where a cursor is set, the system pointer will be hidden and the custom cursor will appear while gliding over that window, and disappear when you leave that window.
    * FIX: When a cursor is set in a child Window, and the mouse moves over another Window or WindowedApplication, the cursor no longer disappears -- the correct system pointer or custom cursor will display.
    * Fixed listener leaks when switching systemManagers (neither Jason nor I can tell when/why it would happen in CursorManager, however).
    Reviewer: Jason
    Bugs: SDK-15029
    Doc: No
QA: Yes, here's an exhaustive list of ideas:
    * We'll need tests for the new behaviors.
    * For all tests, we need to try behavior in air AND behavior in (sa)player, and test regressions.
    * Please test SDK-15583 again, all other cursor tests.
    * Take the test case for SDK-15029 and open up TWO MyWindows. Test how the cursors change across all three app windows when they are overlapped like a Venn diagram, with different combinations of custom cursors on and off -- we should have test cases for all of this behavior.
    * Test that custom cursors work properly when the mouse leaves a non-rectangular stage with transparency.
    * Test mouse drag situations -- drag off stage, release, move back to stage; drag off and back onto stage, etc.
    * In my tests, I found a lot of bad behavior in AIR, and player seemed to be fine. Do we have drag and drop use cases for AIR with custom cursors?
A list of some bugs I encountered:
    * BUG (cosmetic): If the mouse is outside the stage when a cursor changes for the first time (say you toggle a checkbox which sets the cursor using the keyboard), the cursor will appear on the stage in the last known mouse position. When the mouse returns to the stage, everything will start working correctly again.
    * BUG (cosmetic): In AIR, if you drag out, and back into the window, then release, a MOUSE_OUT is fired again over the stage, which is wrong. The mouse coords given are (-1,-1), also wrong. This causes the system cursor to show instead of the custom cursor.
    * BUG: In AIR: if you drag off the edge of a Window with a custom cursor, the cursor will vanish. The MOUSE_OUT event correctly event fires while dragging off the window. Even though the handler tells the system mouse cursor to appear, it doesn't -- might be an AIR issue, since the mouse is still dragging when told to show. If you move back over the active window without dragging, the cursor goes back to normal.
    * BUG: In AIR: if you drag over another window with a cursor, MOUSE_MOVE events don't fire on that other window until you let go. Therefore, a custom cursor in that window does not get drawn, nor does a system cursor. If you move back over the active window without dragging, the cursor goes back to normal.
    * BUG: In AIR: When dragging, off a window, Event.MOUSE_LEAVE only fires after the mouse is let go (unlike MOUSE_OUT), EVEN IF the mouse is dragged back over the window and released over the window. So you're told the mouse left when it didn't.
    * BUG: In Player: I could never get Event.MOUSE_LEAVE to fire when added to the stage in saplayer or browser.

  • Seem to have an "extra" Library folder...huh?!

    Hi all,
Up until recently I've been trying to figure out why my home>Library folder had mysteriously moved inside my home>Documents folder. Finally having the time to do some detective work I used Time Machine to see when the change happened....right around when I went from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
In searching the forums, I discovered that my home>Library folder is still there; it's just invisible. However, it's now even more a mystery as to where the home>Documents>Library folder came from or why it exists!
As it is now I have FOUR Library folders on my iMac:  1) Library at the top level of the hard drive, 2) System>Library, 3) home>Library (invisible), and 4) home>Documents>Library (which appeared the same time my home>Library folder became invisible).
This "rogue" Library folder is like the middle of a Venn diagram of the top level and System>library; it shares some, but not all of the top level Library folders, and some, but not all, of the System>Library folders.
Does this make sense to anyone? I started thinking that my file synchronization app had caused the problem (I was using Chronosync to sync my Document folders between my iMac and my late 2006 MacBook running Snow Leopard), but there's no reason synching should have picked up a folder that usually resides outside the Documents folder. Since then my MacBook's HD took a dive and I don't have a backup of it that goes back to the period in question when the folders did their disappearing/reappearing act.
    Any thoughts?
    TIA,
    Kath

    Hi there,
So I am able to see the Library in my home folder after reading the option open in the "Go" menu tip in another discussion, but thanks also for making sure I had it.
So then, on comparing all 4 Library folders again, it looks like everything in the "rogue" home>Documents>Library is contained in the top level Library (the one that resides at the same level as the System, Applications, Developer and Users folders).
The rogue Library folder looks like a very incomplete version of the top level System folder, containing only 25 duplicate folders of the main level Library's 67 folders (opening those folders showed the rogue Library had the same, or fewer, nested folders and files within).
So perhaps I can just delete it? I definitely don't think it belongs....but it does bother me not knowing how it got there, especially in its "incomplete" state, unless it's been partially building itself since it arrived in the Documents folder.
    Strange....

  • Excel CUBESET across multiple dimensions returns #VALUE

    Simplified question:
All the cubeset examples I'm finding seem to be limited to one "criteria"
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/cubeset-function-HA010083019.aspx
Ultimately I need a cubevalue that is based on multiple criteria. When I use a CUBEVALUE pointed to 4 different Cubeset cells, I get a #VALUE error.
    * Should I be trying to combine my sets before I feed them to the CUBEVALUE, or should it matter?
    * What conditions or circumstances would result in not being able to get a value from CUBEVALUE taking into account multiple CUBESET sources (I have independently identified that there are real values to return)
    * If it would be better to combine all the criteria in one CUBESET before feeding that to the CUBEVALUE, what is the syntax (bracket placement) for including more than one condition from other cells that each contain a single cubeset condition? e.g.
    =CUBESET("Cubename",({A1, A5, C10, B14}))
    Thank you!
Note: two of my source cubesets are overlapping, I wouldn't think this is a problem- I'd expect the combination to work like a Venn diagram; one is "All members except APPLES", and the other is "All members except KIWI" so I'd expect
the combination of the two to result in "All members except Apples OR Kiwi"... please clarify if that isn't correct

    Hi Keith,
That seems the value is not getting fetched from the right place. This is a different behavior and to maintain only one issue on a single thread
I would advise you to pursue the other thread you have just opened and will help us avoid duplication of the same issue.
Please reach out to us if you have any questions on this issue and we will glad to work on it.

  • How to change alpha of overlapping section of Movieclips

    Hello Forum,
I am working with Flash CS3, and using Action script 2.0.
I use attachMovie to add 5 clips on the stage each in a
different layer (can I have two mcs on one layer?). Three of these
clips are filled circles. One large yellow circle is on layer 1
(depth 1), a smaller circle (blue) is added on layer 2, and then a
different instance of the blue circle is added on layer 3. I then
tween the two blue clips in toward the big yellow circle, one on
the left side, and one on the right side. Each blue circle
partially overlaps the yellow circle. I would like to change the
alpha of each blue circle where it overlaps the yellow circle. Just
the overlapping sector, not the whole circle. This is like a venn
diagram. I have looked at the blendMode, but this seems to have no
effect at all. I think it is due to the fact that I tween the clips
and am using attachMovie in AS2 on an actions layer. If I just drag
two clips on the stage, and set the blendMode of the top clip, I
see an effect, but it changes the entire clip, not just the
overlapping part. I suspect this is due to the fact that I have a
white background on the stage. Is there a way I can set the alpha
just where the clips overlap? Maybe using some sort of mask layer?
I have looked around for a solution on the internet, and have
not quite found what I am looking for. This is for AS2, not AS3.
    Thanks,
    eholz1

Well the first thing is there are no "layers" in
actionscript. So I'll assume you mean you've added them at
    different depths?
The next bit is that you could probably come up with some
very complex masking way of doing this, but I don't think you need
to. The trick is that you can't tell that there is a blending mode
over the white -- at least I can't -- until you move the item over
something else. So the trick is to keep your cirlces from moving
over things you don't want them to move over.
I used the code below and it worked like I think you are
    describing.

  • TOC for multilingual documents

    Hi,
I have a book made of documents in different languages. I would like to have a separate TOC for each of them.
Since there is no way to tell the TOC feature to only include paragraphs from selected documents, how would you do to accomplish this task?
Generating full TOCs and then deleting the unnecessary language would not work, since InDesign would calculate the exceeding pages, and add them to the TOC.
    Paolo

I would be interested to know the kind of disaster you are foreseeing. I have not yet faced anything so serious to be considered a disaster in twenty years of this job, but I would like to consider any improvement to my workflow, as well as any trouble I'm not yet aware of.
Ah, I was predicting the disaster of you trying to include your files in a Book file and accidentally synchronizing a bunch of different styles with identical names, or something along those lines. It wasn't exactly clear from your initial posts that you were familiar with this kind of work (most who pose here are not familiar translation work), but of course your most recent post clears that up competely.  Of course, we have some terminological differences - for instance, I'd consider books, pamphlets, posters, graphic novels, and anything else that could be in an .indd a "document" so even if your .indd is eventually going to have a front and back cover, spine, frontmatter, the works, it's still a "document" to me. I do see that you said "book" in your initial post but I never saw "indb" or "book file" or anything of the sort. Apologies if I've induced any confusion by assuming that our Venn diagrams of books and documents mapped onto one another. I'll make sure to use correct terminology when discussing book files to avoid further confusion.
To elaborate on this point: the files I send the translators can contain paragraph styles named Body, Heading, Numbered 1. If the translator prefer to change the name of the styles to something like Body_DE, Heading_DE, Numbered 1_DE, he can do it. However, this can be an annoyance when a general reformatting is due and you are in a hurry.
That could be an annoyance, or perhaps a major delay - which is why I always instruct my translators to make new styles only when necessary, to alert me when it is necessary, and to completely apply all the styles I made when their transations are complete. Many CAT tools these days have adopted the SDLX-style "format painting" interface, which makes preservation of styles basically perfect. (Those who don't have such an interface often use tools like Oxygen for editing XML, or in some cases still use ye olde TagEditor from Trados.)  When a translator cannot or will not respect the styles I've set up, I simply inform my project managers, and then those translators are no longer involved in projects which are to be delivered in InDesign with well-styled text. You may not have that freedom to tell your PMs "Any translator that fails to respect styles in this project fails the test and cannot be used in InDesign translation projects of more than n words," but if you do it might reduce your headache & overhead when plotting workflows for multilingual books with multiple TOCs.
For example, If I want to change the font size in Body, I must do it both in Body and Body_DE. No general synching would be possible.
When I get to set the styles up myself, I always used Based On - no general synch, no, but specific synch. Alternately, I have a Body_Parent style, which is used nowhere in any text, but Body_EN and Body_DE and Body_VI and et cetera are all based on the Body_Parent style. So, instead of using the Book panel to synchronize all styles across all docs, I can just have a few template documents and use the flyout to Load Paragraph Styles from another document, and then just load in a new Body_Parent style.
Also, I never used the possibility of including an InDesign document into another one. Can you suggest any example of how this could be used? I would think that using book files would be the right idea to manage different languages, and I suspect that nesting .indd files would add a level of complexity.
Hm, good point. My projects are likely to use lots of cross-references, so I tend to shy away from Book files (the performance hit on my aging hardware when updating hundreds of references across twenty-odd chapters is significant). But yes, if you are willing to synch your styles all at once, then a Book file would probably be a better way to manage styles. However, since you asked for an example... One multilingual handbook I'm working on right now is about 300 pages long, and it's all one long story. Each translation is 10-15 pages long, broken out into three "chapters," each of which is a separate INDD file. However, these files don't have the chapter headers... and the chapters are placed as inline images. So, the logical order of stuff in the story is:
    EnglishChapter1Title (live text)
    EnglishChapter1Content [placed INDD}
    EnglishChapter2Title (live text)
    EnglishChapter2Content [placed INDD}
    EnglishChapter3Title (live text)
    EnglishChapter3Content [placed INDD}
    SpanishChapter1Title (live text)
    SpanishChapter1Content [placed INDD}
    SpanishChapter2Title (live text)
    SpanishChapter2Content [placed INDD}
    SpanishChapter3Title (live text)
    SpanishChapter3Content [placed INDD}
    VietnameseChapter1Title (live text)
... and so on. So the placed INDDs have no page numbers, the page numbers are handled in the "container" file. This is useful because the content doesn't change much - the big change from year to year is the list of included languages. So, it's really easy to delete all of the Spanish stuff & regenerate the TOC, and it's really easy to assign the Swahili. Likewise, it's really easy to job out the Arabic to a third party - because 95% of the work they're doing is in completely separate INDDs.
But, to return to your original question - I may be mistaken, but when I tested it over here in CS4, if I made an in-language TOC in one of my files, then it only picked up the "Header" style in the document I was working on, it did not pick up identically-named headers in other languages in the book. I tried it a few different ways, with each document in the Book file started renumbering at page 1, with each document continuing numbering from previous chapters, et cetera.  So I must really not understand your original question:
I have a book made of documents in different languages. I would like to have a separate TOC for each of them.
Since there is no way to tell the TOC feature to only include paragraphs from selected documents, how would you do to accomplish this task?
Each language is in a separate document, a separate INDD, and the INDDs are included within an INDB, right? The way to generate TOCs per language is to open up one file at a time and Update TOC. When I test it, Document 3 (VI) only picks up headers from Document 3 for its TOC. The only issue would be if you needed each TOC to start at Page 1, and the way to get that would be to use Section & Numbering Options to restart each chapter at 1.

  • Best way to create 'bubble help?'

    Hi All -
Does anyone have a suggestion for the easiest way to create what is similar to 'bubble-help' that appears when the user clicks (or rolls-over - doesn't really matter) on a term looking for more information?  The task is to create a video that has additional information available that a user can choose to read or not, depending on level of need/interest.  Both the main path and the additional information would contain text, graphics, and voiceover.
    I have tried:
    1) rollover slidelets - can't get them to behave correctly (won't display for proper amount of time, multiple audios playing at the same time, etc)
    2) inserting a button over a "more info" icon that would take them to a slide at the end, which would return to where it came from; problem here is that (I think) the button is causing the project to halt until clicked, which is missing the point.
    3) click box - didn't do much investigating here, but it just didn't look light what I want.
If you can suggest a way to fix one of the problems above, that's great.  If it's something I haven't considered, that's great too.
I'm running Captivate 4, in case that matters.  Any and all suggestions appreciated...before I rip all my hair out, if possible...

Rick - thanks for the quick reply.  Thanks also for the confirmation that a rollover slidelet is the way to go.  I thought it was, but as I said, I'm having trouble making them work correctly.  A bit more about what I'm trying to do:
I'm making a module on searching in a particular application.  So for the first slide, I discuss using the search box, the ability to use natural language, and also that it supports Boolean logic.  I'm trying to give the user the option to get more information about Boolean logic if s/he likes, but not force it on them.  My preference is for the additional information to 'build' and display graphics as needed (the good ol' Venn diagrams!) to support the concepts and examples.  I've set the slidelet up with the timings I want, and added a voiceover.  So far, not too complicated, right?
What's happening is that when I rollover the specified area, the slidelet comes up as it should, but the objects on the slide all appear too quickly (quicker than the specified times) and the voiceover never catches up before the time on the slidelet ends and it moves on.  I've checked in this forum and got the idea to play with some of the options, which I did, but no joy.  One of the settings I changed was to set it to "stick slidelet" - no help.  So instead of trying to recall and reset all the settings I changed, maybe the best question is "what should the settings be to properly display the slidelet?"  I could live with the solution being that the user has to click on something to see the additional info, as opposed to rolling over - matters not.  I just want it to display the way I set it.
Hope this helps to clarify.  Looking forward to any ideas you have.
    Thanks,
    Paul
