Verizon - iSync

i get the chance to upgrade my verizon phone in a few months and i was wondering does verizon allow bluetooth to sync with macs. i have heard from anohter forum (not that reliable) that it doesnt so im just wondering if they allow it as long as the phone is listed on eht compatible page supplied by apple.

Verizon Wireless does not limit your ability to synchronize your contact and calendaring data using iSync, but they do frustrate users' efforts to transfer other files - photos, music and multimedia files, for example - by defeating, disabling or having their manufacturing partners leave the Bluetooth OBEX [or Object Exchange] profile off of handsets built for use on their network.
They do this to ensure that they can provide file transfers in exchange for a fee, preserving a substantial revenue stream in the process. I'm not making a judgement about their behavior here - I'm simply explaining why they choose to do this.
Also, unless properly configured to accomodate iSync, the Wireless Sync package offered by Verizon with some handsets and smartphones will preclude its use. A simple configuration change corrects the default behavior of Wireless Sync, and allows iSync to transfer contact and calendaring data to and from your handset or smartphone.

  • Isync and TREO 700p for VERIZON

I just purchased a TREO 700p and iSync is saying that this is not a supported device. It says that SPRINT'S Treo 700p is supported, but not VERIZON'S. That's absurd.
Does anyone know if I can make the syncs successful with my Verizon TREO 700p?
If not, does nayone know when the VERIZON Treo 700p WILL be supported?
    THANK YOU.

here is the error i get from palm software. i uninstalled missing sync.

  • Will any Verizon phone work with iSync now?

This is a constantly moving target, i guess. But i need new phone and am stuck with Verizon because of geography. Several Motorolas had working hacks for iSync over the years but i cannot find recent threads on this.
Are there any current Verizon Motorolas that will work with an iSync hack?

The answer to the question posed in your thread title is no, absolutely not. A more general answer is that Verizon CDMA mobile handsets and smartphones are supported by iSync only if they are listed here. Support is not guaranteed for every device, from every carrier.
Devices which use the Blackberry OS, Palm OS or Windows Mobile OS are supported by products from several developers, including Mark/Space.
In general terms, there is far more support—both from Apple and third parties—for GSM, rather than CDMA, devices. As a Verizon subscriber, this is simply something you have to contend with, as would an Alltel, Cricket or Sprint/Nextel user.

  • Advice: Treo/Verizon/Ical/Isync/ Do we do it?

    Hi everyone,
We're currently using one paper calendar and a pencil. Without legnthy explanations...
We want to do the following, and we want to know if it's possible. As the answers we get elsewhere are rather unconvincing.
    1. Treo/Blackberry like device, we like keyboards and must use Verizon. (leaning towards Treo after trying in store.) There is always a pregnant pause when I ask if they're compatible with MAC.
    2. Email from phone calendar dates to each other. (Invites?) ability to open these on the phone and/or the computer.
    3. Email from computer (Issue: I use Eudora, my husband uses Apple Mail) ical appointments.
    4. Ical sync with device.
    5. Ability to see who's appointment is who's ... for instance if I send my husband and appt for his calendar but it's my appointment... We need to do this because of business, house etc.. So I'm not really "inviting" him to come along or block out his time... just a "notification" or something? Is there a way for us to have each other's appointments on the phones and the computers. To re-explain again... We could both have appointments at 1:00PM for one hour, with different people, and we have both appointments existing on our Treo's & Ical, but my appointment would block out my time, and his would block out his time... I hope that makes sense.
    6. Our computers are separate, or unlinked (excuse my laymen terms here, I don't know it all)
    7. What happens if we travel with a Lap Top with microsoft... can we do this at .mac? It appears the calendar is read only there, so we would rely on our Treos?
    8. Which Treo model works best for MAC, we'll spend anything to get rid of the pencil.
Thank you so much for helping us understand this!!!!
    Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

So far so good, a few hiccups but Verizon has supported me so far on each issue.  Some responders from the support line where not as good as others, but I did find several who were more than helpful.  The forums here are helpful too, aggravation does make some of the posts bias against the phone, but there are some good posts out there and the solution found posts will help us all.
Everyone who owns a Thunderbolt just needs a little patience, it is a new and powerful device.  I'm sure HTC and Verizon are working out the confirmed bugs, and will roll out confirmed updates when they have gathered more data. When I was prototyping the obsidian, which we marketed as the glisten, we had many issues too, but in the end worked most of them out.
The thunderbolt should also follow same result as long as Verizon and HTC keep it in the front line, so far they are still marketing it, even with having the Iphone now in their portfolio. I viewed a wirefly.com smackdown between the Thunderbolt and the new Iphone, and to me, I do like the Thunderbolt best.  On to day 12, so far so good.

  • ISync and Motorola RAZR

I have one of the original RAZR's and a MacBook Pro running 10.4.11. I've been using Motorola Phone Tools on a PC and syncing with Outlook without issue. When I bought my Mac, I wanted to sync with it instead. Tried exporting contacts from Outlook and importing in Address Book. No dice. Created entries from scratch. I deleted all contacts off my phone and used iSync. Many entries not copied to phone, and MANY entries in Address Book lose their numbers and addresses. I re-sync with Phone Tools to get original contacts back on my phone, and then match up entries from Address Book and phone manually. Did this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1320120&tstart=0 <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1320120&tstart=0>
Then run iSync again, and I get duplicate entries on both the phone and in Address Book. For a company that wants people to switch from PC's to Macs, this doesn't work very well.

The Verizon Wireless-supplied Motorola RAZR V3c is explicitly supported only by the latest release of iSync—version 2.2—which is a part of the Mac OS X 10.4.6 update. Prior to this release it was not, but could be used with the addition of third-party plug-ins.
However, there are three significant limitations inherent in this handset:
    1. Calendar synchronization is not supported. This is a Verizon issue and may be resolved in future firmware updates from Verizon.
    2. Verizon has reverted to its long-standing practice of disabling the Bluetooth OBEX profile, so that files cannot be exchanged between your handset and your Macintosh. They do this to preserve their ongoing revenue stream from pay-to-transfer options like Get it Now. Initially, this handset inexplicably did not have the OBEX profile disabled, but that 'oversight' has been 'corrected' in subsequent releases.
    3. The V3c is a V CAST device, and as such, cannot be used as a CDMA wireless modem to connect to the internet. Many Verizon-supplied mobile handsets and smartphones do include a DUN [Dial Up Networking] profile, but V CAST devices do not. I mention this because the lack of DUN support may be a 'deal breaker' for Verizon subscribers like you.

  • ISync has lost ability to sync incrementally

    15" Aluminum 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 running 10.4.8, Address Book 4.0.4 (485.1), iSync 2.3 (500.86), Motorola E815 running software version 8720_01.17.03
I have a Motorola E815 on Verizon. I bought it because it was the first Verizon phone that supported Bluetooth syncing.
I have been syncing my OS X Address Book contacts and iCal data with the phone with no problem for over a year.
I had a kernel panic in January and lost iCal and Address book data. No worries, that gets backed up every morning to my iDisk . I restored it.
However, since then every time I use iSync it seems to take much longer, along the lines of a full or first-time sync.
For instance, I'll sync, and then remember to add one more contact to my sync set, and sync again. That used to be a really quick sync because it was updating just one change, but now the second sync takes just as long as the first.
Any ideas what might be going on? Why did things change since the restore?
By the way, I think I restored all application preferences, as well. That's one of the items in my daily backup to iDisk, and after that kernel panic a few things were goofy so I restored all applications preferences, not just the address book and iCal data.

It sounds as if your events are being forced into slow synchronization mode each time, which should only have happened the first time you synchronized after restoring the data and triggering the next event.
Launch iSync, open the Preferences… dialog and press the Reset Sync History button. That will leave your clients registered and your data intact, but remove any synchronization history from the truth database. When you next trigger an event, it should force a single slow synchronization merging your data, unless you have selected instead to replace the data on your mobile handset. From that point on, it should operate as you expect it to.
Here is a document describing how the Sync Service framework operates:
    http://developer.apple.com/macosx/syncservices.html

  • Motorola K1m/L7c  iSync Problems  Can not find device  USB & Bluetooth

USB Bus recognizes our new Verizon cell phone. We selected phone based on Apple's Compatibility chart listing this phone as compatible with iSync. We have had NO luck in getting iSync to recognize the existance of this phone using USB. When setting up Bluetooth, the system sees the phone - but will not connect to it. What is wrong? Using Mac OS X Version 10.4.9 and iSync version 2.4 (501.2)
This problem is the same on both of our laptops.

Try Windows 8 drivers from Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support for your specific Mac.
Also, on the OSX side look in About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report -> Bluetooth and post the hardware information so non-Apple drivers can also be located/tested.

  • View the changes in iSync?

    Hi,
The sync works perfectly with my Motorola RAZR.
But is there a way to see what are the changes being applied?
E.g. when I get a message one new contact added...how do I see which contact is being added?
    Thanks.

Rather than add on to an existing, unrelated thread, you should post a new thread regarding your issue. Most users are not going to relate View the changes in iSync? to an inability to synchronize a Motorola RAZR V3 with iCal using iSync.
Only iSync 2.4 requires Mac OS X 10.4.9 at a minimum: no version requires Mac OS X 10.4.10. The version of iSync used with Mac OS X 10.4.7 and 10.4.8 is iSync 2.3, and would have been upgraded to that level from iSync 2—with either an appropriate Combo update application or use of the Software Update mechanism—when bringing your reinstalled Mac OS X 10.4 base configuration to either Mac OS X 10.4.7 or 10.4.8.
An appropriate reinstallation of Mac OS 10.4—coupled with an upgrade using the Mac OS X 10.4.7 or 10.4.8 Combo update appropriate for your processor type—is the easiest and most effective means to 'restore' synchronization using iSync 2.3.
The V3m may well be supported by iSync, though not explicitly. The list of supported devices includes these:
    • Motorola RAZR v3 (GSM)
    • Motorola RAZR v3i
    • Motorola RAZR v3c (5)

The (5) flag points to a note that states this about the V3c model closely related to your V3m: "The Verizon version of this phone does not support calendar synchronization." So, if your model has been provided by Verizon Wireless, that may also be an issue. (You did not identify your carrier or specify from whom you obtained your V3m mobile handset.)

  • Motorola E815, Address Book, iSync 2.1.1, Mac OS 10.4.3

I just replaced my Motorola v60i which worked perfectly fine with Address Book, iSync, Mac OS X 10.4.3, on a PowerBook G4. I upgraded to the Motorola E815 and although it syncs through Bluetooth it does not sync numbers with wait commands (i.e., 9785551212w1234w1) properly. The w is the wait command for burst dialing whereas 9785551212 would be sent, then you would press the right smart key to send 1234 (a password), and then you would press the right smart key to send 1 (to play a message). When the infomation is synced, iSync sends 978555121212341.
If you manually enter the wait command on the phone and then sync it eliminates the w when synced to the Address Book.
I played with entering a upper case W, but when synced, it converts it to a 9.
Has anyone run into this? Is there a fix for this? Manually editing the numbers with w commands would be a real hassel.
I contacted Verizon Wireless (Massachusetts) and they directed me to Motorola. After 6 calls to Motorola and 2-hours on the phone because their system kept hanging up on me, a support representative told be "Oh, you have a Macintosh. We don't support the Macintosh so call Apple." Real helpful. ;-(
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mike, thanks for your response and advise.
I talked to Apple via AppleCare Tech Support. Paul (the technician) was extremely helpful and we worked through the issue.
What we did was to create a test user account and try syncing from the e815 to the Mac. That worked and all numbers with a w in them transferred fine. We deleted the test user.
In my primary user account, we deleted the e815 from the Bluetooth System Preference, deleted the iSync device, deleted com.apple.Syndication.plist and com.apple.isync.plist from the Library > Preferences folders. Restarted the computer with Disk 1 of the original Mac OS X Installation CD and checked and repaired the harddrive. We restarted again.
We set up the e815 in the Bluetooth System Preference. We established a connection in iSync. We than synced the phone. After syncing the e815 did not have the w in the numbers on the e815.
We reset the device (phone) in inSync, which deleted all the information and transferred the data from the Address Book to the e815. The w were not in the e815.
I then entered the w using the Insert Wait command in the e815 and resynced. Everything worked. So, the key "seems" to be to insert the w in the cellular telephone and then sync to the Macintosh. We synced several times afterwards and everything seems fine now.
Paul (at AppleCare), you are awesome! Thanks so much.
FYI - Paul said he would escalate the issue and hopefully Motorola or Apple will fix this "feature."

  • Motorola RAZR verizon photo transfer to my Macbook pro, HELP

Hello. I have a Motorola Razr from Verizon. I have the USB cable hooked into my computer and the phone charges up just fine. I'm trying to access some pictures i have on the phone and am unable to get them to my Macbook Pro. I've even tried setting up the device via Bluetooth, but the i get a "Device does not have the necessary services" warning.
Is there any way I can access my photos which are on the camera and get them over to my computer??
    Please help.

Also iSync. The iSync list does not include this phone. Anyone know if I just need to wait or if the Maxx will never show up as a supported by iSync?

  • Can't sync Verizon V3 with computer

Very frustrating. I finally found a phone I like, that takes the place of my long-lost Startac, and the iSync website specifically says it can sync addressbook and calendar with the V3. But not Verizon's, I guess.
Verizon just brought out their V3. It is identical to anybody else's, except instead of quad-band, I guess it's CDMA. It doesn't use a SIM card.
Now, either my Titanium doesn't have bluetooth, or the bluetooth 1.0 spec that it does support is useless. I went out and bought a $40 BT 2.0 dongle. Well, the computer at least recognizes there's a phone sitting next to it and pairs with it, but when asked what I want to do with the device, I get ONLY the checkbox for using it as an internet modem. No option for syncing calendar and contacts.
In iSync, I can also get the computer to recognize that there is a device, but then it states that the device is not supported. No ifs, ands, or buts. That's as far as I can get. No device appears between the .mac and sync icons.
My phone didn't come with a USB cable. Am I going to have to buy a special one? I tried a standard USB cable off a printer and it won't charge the phone, even.
So am I doing something wrong, or do I just need to go back to using my Kyocera palm-os brick?

You make good points about Apple's software needing an update; but I can't sit and wait an untold amount of time before the update happens. I'm curious as to WHY iSync can't communicate with all V3's; the fact that it can't points to hardware changes with the V3c's (which I can confirm from inspection) as well as possible software problems on Verizon's side. I am always suspicious of the fact that their phones have to be "programmed" over the air - I suspect that last-minute encoding actually reduces functionality.
As for the look and feel -- I didn't like their unworkable red-bars interface and the Verizon version of the V3 lacks the "menu" key in between the left and right softkeys.
The only strength Verizon still has over competitors is signal coverage and consistency. But Cingular is rapidly catching up (and Sprint rents their lines from Verizon!). Anywhere I need to go is always a major metro area; and my parents, who live in a motorhome and travel extensively, have moved to Cingular with no signal problems - at least along interstates and such. The backwoods of Wisconsin, I don't know about.
Apple's iSync compatibility list has many Motorla phones listed - only ONE non-V3 is carried by Verizon that I can see. And obviously there's problems with the new V3c. This almost non-existent relationship between Apple and Verizon is unacceptable - I chose to go the easy route and have been rewarded with a phone that has MORE functionality and customizability. I can't put a price on that.

  • I am not able to add my Motorola Razr V3c as a new device in iSync

I have a new Razr. I was able to pair it up in bluetooth. When I go to iSync > add device, it reports that the phone is not supported by iSync. I am able to transfer files under bluetooth, and I see others are syncing their address books and calenders. Any suggestions as to why mine will not?

Only the GMS version of the Motorola V3 is explicitly supported by iSync. The Verizon-provided CDMA V3c is not. Others claiming success in synchronizing this mobile handset have had to patch iSync to allow it. Here is one approach that several users have reported success with:
    http://www.briantoth.com/razr_v3c
You should also be aware that your V3c is a V CAST device, and as such cannot be used as a CDMA modem to connect to the internet, as V CAST technology is not compatible with the Bluetooth DUN [Dial-Up Networking] profile. While this has nothing to do with iSync, it is an important feature for many users.

  • ISync (and BT File Exchange) Mysteriously Stop Working...

Hi there. I've been very happily syncing my Sony Ericsson Z520a with my Powerbook G4 for a while. Almost a year in fact. Now, suddenly, isync stopped being able to connect to my phone. I have checked everything I know how to check; bluetooth is enabled on both my phone and my computer and the two are able to see each other, and all the settings on my phone and my computer are the same as they were before this stopped working.
    I'm getting this error:
[Z520a] Connection to the phone failed.
Please make sure that your phone is turned on. If this error occurs again, please restart your phone.
    Device "Z520a" synchronization failed
At first my computer couldn't see my phone, and my phone couldn't see my computer. When this first happened and I was trying to figure out what was wrong, I noticed that the "Computer Name" in the Bluetooth System Preference pane had gone to "Not Available". Initially I tried changing the name of my computer under Sharing, but that didn't help, so I restarted the computer and the phone. Then I re-paired the two devices. They saw each other just fine after that, and when I hit sync in iSync my phone is definitely communicating with my computer (its bluetooth activity indicator says it's communicating) but I still get the above error, and nothing is being transfered between my phone and computer. When I try to Browse my phone with Bluetooth File Exchange, it tells me "The connection Failed or Closed."
So, can anyone help me? Synchronizing my phone's calendar with my iCal is a big thing for me, and I really need to find a way to make it work again.
    Thanks!

Hi- I'm a Verizon customer, not Cingular but I know that Verizon purposefully cripples their phones to not allow BT file transfer... forcing you to email your pics, etc... which costs money. I would guess that maybe Cingular does the same?
As you've noticed... the Razor IS compatible with iSync... and there aren't a ton of phones that even do that, so that's a positive. I have a Motorola e815 and there ARE ways on the net to hack it to enable BT file transfer, though I'm not going to try them. Does the Razor have a memory card? I bought a memory card for my phone and I do transfers that way.
Anyway... like I said, I'm not sure that this is a Cingular issue, I'm just offering a thought since that's what I'm dealing with. You might try browsing the iSync part of the forums to find more info!

  • ISync & Palm Desktop Problems

I'm trying to move (sync?) my Palm Address Book contacts over to Apple Address Book. I've updated my Palm OS to v. 3.5.3 (and done a HotSync with the new version) and I'm running OSX 10.5.6 on my desktop Mac. I printed out the directions from iSync "Help" and everything goes along fine until I open "HotSync Manager" (as instructed) from my apps. folder. In the instruction it says to "choose HotSync > Conduit Settings" I do not see this option in my HotSync Manager folder. When I click on the folder, the heading on the new window is titled "HotSync Software Set Up" and the only 2 options are "HotSync Controls" which just starts a HotSync and "Connection Settings" which has no mention of "Conduit Settings". Thanks in advance for any help / suggestions, I've hit the wall.

hotsync manager should be a program not a folder. If it does appear as a folder, you might want to add the extension '.app' to it. Once in hotsync manager, conduit settings is a menu item
