VERR_PGM_MAPPING_CONFLICT with VirtualBox

I have two VBox guest OSes, WinXP Pro 32-bit  and Windows 7 64-bit beta.
This morning, every time I tried to launch the Win7 guest, I would get this error:
Failed to start VM execution (VERR_PGM_MAPPING_CONFLICT).
A google search didn't turn up any solutions.
Then I tried launching my WinXP guest, and it launched fine.
I closed WinXP and tried launching Win7 again. This time it worked.
I have no explanation, but I thought I'd post this in case anybody else encounters something similar.
FWIW, I'm running VirtualBox 2.1.4 (64-bit) on Arch64 with kernel 2.6.29-3.

  • Is it possible to use Snow Leopard on Mountain Lion iMac with Virtualbox ?

I've been lucky recently, with people giving the perfect solutions for me so I try again.
But, this one is a tough one: How to run a virtual Snow Leopard on a new iMac ?
I got a 2013 iMac with Mountain Lion (10.8.5 now) so,  totally incompatible with Snow Leopard. I need SL anyway.
Give up all you old applications and buy new ones is not acceptable. First, this is not my way of thinking and, second, some cannot be replaced.
Many posts say that you can use Snow Leopard with VirtualBox but I could not find anywhere the "how to" (in this particular configuration).
For instance, I followed these 2 protocols, almost similar:
    http://www.maketecheasier.com/install-mac-os-x-snow-leopard-in-virtualbox-on-win dows/
    http://www.macbreaker.com/2012/02/snow-leopard-virtualbox.html
but they use Windows as host system and something is not working (for me) with Mountain Lion.
I made many attempts, with VirtualBox 4.2.18, using pretty much everything: Snow Leopard DVD, SL Server DVD, .dmg of both. I've also got Combo 10.6.8 updates for both (but I'm not sure if it can be used before installing). With another MacBook, I managed to install a SLS on external hard drive and update to 10.6.8. Was unable to use it anyway.
Inevitably, I ended up with the message:
"FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted."
I have no idea of what support to use and even, probably  important, if it should be set on Primary or Secondary Master ? (in Settings / Storage)
Is it possible at all ???
Would it work better with VMware Fusion ? Anybody successful ?
    Help
    Thanx

How to install and run OS 10.6 Snow Leopard on a virtual machine on top of OS 10.7 Lion:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/17/install-run-mac-os-x-10-6-snow-leopard-in-virtual -machine-on-lion/
    From kappy:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4.  When the installation has completed your computer will require a restart after
which you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update
process by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to
             bring your installation current.
First you will have to prep your new SSD:
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.

  • Need to uninstall Boot Camp to get Win7 licence to work with VirtualBox?

I installed Win7 using Boot Camp a few days ago.
I find it a hassle rebooting each time I want to switch systems, and now wish to try VirtualBox.
Do i need to uninstall Win7 on Boot Camp (or delete the whole chunk) before Win7 will work on VirtualBox?
I don't want to touch the Terminal at all.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
when you install Windows 7 in VirtUalBox you have to reactivate it with Microsoft, which deauthorizes your BootCamp Windows 7 license.
So while it is not really needed to uninstall, or better said remove your BootCamp Windows partition prior to installing it with VirtualBox, you should do it nonetheless to regain the harddisk space currently used by the Windows partition.
Use the BootCamp Assistant in OSX to repartition your harddisk back to one single OSX volume and so remove Windows.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • [SOLVED] No luck with VirtualBox network.

    EDIT**********
I have a working Arch Linux VM made with VirtualBox. The network works out of the box but once you reboot and remove live media and load into Arch Linux I cannot get a ping.
I have looked through the Arch Linux VirtualBox wiki and I am either confused or feel I have tried what it asked.
    Here is what I did.
For the purpose of this post, I made a new VM and successfully followed the beginner guide again and installed Arch Linux and it starts up no problem without the live iso.
    first thing I did was
    ping -c 3 www.google.com
    unknown host...
    so i did
    ddhcpcd
    and this resulted...
    dhcpcd[196]: version 6.7.1 starting
    dhcpcd[196]: enp0s3: adding address fe80::ced8:2d68:7409:4427
dhcpcd[196]: no interfaces have a carrier
dhcpcd[196]: forked to background, child pid 208
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vi … VirtualBox
I have no idea where to learn about this in the exhaustive guide that mostly has nothing to do with what I am using VirtualBox for.
[SOLVED] Josh Braun’s Blog // A Guide to Installing Arch in VirtualBox
    http://wideaperture.net/blog/?p=3851
Solved using this code. I did not see anything about this in the Wiki.. so check out Josh Brauns Blog.
    # systemctl enable [email protected]
Old Horrible Question... DO NOT READ
I can dual boot Arch from my bios and get wifi access easily.
When I use VirtualBox, it has no problem until I actually log on to Arch Linux without the live iso.
I have did searches and i am just LOST on the VirtualBox Arch wiki.
Edit: I have tried dhcpcd and it was not successful. I will post the exact output later.
I am hoping someone can direct me to get this working.
I have a windows 7 Dell laptop and VirtualBox loads into Arch Linux without the iso as a drive. Just looking for guidance and search terms. Thank you./

That's understandable, I know well myself how intimidating it can be at the very beginning.
I will explain a bit. Those guides are just asking for trouble for two reasons: (1) they are outdated and Arch moves quick. And (2) it will prevent you from learning how to administer your system. You copied and pasted that command but did you know what you were doing? Probably not. I guarantee you will run into that same problem again if you don't know how systemd and services, etc. work in general. The first link to dhcpcd was the section about running the service. Notice it links to the systemd page that explains in general how to start, stop, enable, and disable services. This is the kind of research you will need to do on your own if you hope to get to the point where you don't have to ask questions about every single step. It's okay to ask questions, but when it comes to something as straightforward as enabling a service, people will usually just point you to the links.
If you're only a week into Linux in general and you've successfully installed Arch in a VM, then that's a good sign. The lingo will come in time but you definitely need to do a bit of studying. You should read through the wiki in depth. That is, the beginner's guide isn't just for installing Arch for the first time. It includes tons of links to all the moving parts of your system. The general recommendations page is also a must read.
With effort and patience you'll pick up what you now don't understand at all
EDIT: note also that the exact step that you found on this other guide is listed in the beginner's guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … Dynamic_IP
I suspect you got drawn into the VirtualBox wiki page without slowly and carefully going through the beginner's guide as well.

  • [SOLVED] need help with virtualbox install

I'm a relative n00b to Arch, haging migrated from Ubuntu (pha!!). Arch rocks!
However, my beloved virtualbox isnt playing ball!
After many hours of getting arch up and running I now need some assitance please with VirtualBox PEUL. I've googled and search these wikis and found:

    http://www.mail-archive.com/vbox-users% … 02889.html
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VirtualBox
but, I dont know how to install.
I used yaourt (having spent another many hours trying to get to speed with what Arch AUR is and yaourt!!)
    This is what I did:
    1. Visited http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VirtualBox and followed PEUL instructions...
    2. Click on AUR link and then click on PKGBUILD and it downloaded a PKGBUILD from here http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?d … s=0&SeB=nd
    3. Then went back to the wiki http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VirtualBox  and clicked on VirtualBox_1.5.6-1_Linux_x86.run and downloaded the file.
    4. In accordance with the instructions on the wiki, I ran makepkg
    HOWEVER, I get errors!!:

    Hello!
Thanks a lot for this package :o)
Just a quick comment about where to copy the Sun .run package. It should be put to where the tarball from AUR was extracted.
In my case, it is /home/[users]/virtualbox-bin/
    Cheers

Maybe you could find this instructions helpful

I've not tried this myself but I will do it soon and post the info here. Maybe create a separate package for 2.6.25 kernels it's a good idea.

  • Can I use OVM templates with VirtualBox

Oracle has lots of OVM templates available on edelivery for Oracle E-Business Suite. But it seems that to get those I need to install OVM and would not just work with VirtualBox.
Is there a possibility that I can use them directly with VirtaulBox instead of first installing OVM(as this would require formatting of my laptop).
    Thanks & regards,

You can use VMWare if you want to keep your client OS.

  • Playing computer games with Virtualbox

I have a Macbook Pro laptop, but we also have a PC desktop running on Windows XP home edition. I'm trying to get Zoo Tycoon 2 to run on my mac, and I uploaded the windows xp software using virtualbox. Everything worked great, a huge relief because there always seems to be a problem...well, there is. i have to keep the xp software disk inside the computer while my VM is running, which means that i can't put the zoo tycoon 2 software inside...hm...solutions?

sorry i was just being stupid! i just made sure vbox was being installed on hard drive, cd/dvd, and floppy and then took out the windows xp disc before i ran the xp vm (virtual machine) and it still ran. there seems to be an issue with virtualbox when it comes to being able to eject disks.

  • Bridge network with Virtualbox

    howdy guys,
I've been playing with virtualbox a little bit, and found the blog of a guy who is using a virtualbox vm as a webserver.
    he lists these steps:
    tunctl -t tap0 -u user
;(where user is the user who runs VirtualBox)
    chmod 666 /dev/net/tun
;(or add user running VirtualBox to the 'tun' group, on MDV)
    brctl addbr br0
    ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0 promisc
;(where eth0 is the interface to be bridged)
    brctl addif br0 eth0
    dhclient br0
    brctl addif br0 tap0
    ifconfig tap0 192.168.1.50 up
;(where 192.168.1.50 is an arbitrary unused
;IP in the same subnet as your local network)
    echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/tap0/proxy_arp
route add -host 192.168.1.5 dev tap0
;(where 192.168.1.5 is the IP address of the host machine)
    arp -Ds 192.168.1.5 eth0 pub
;(where 192.168.1.5 is the IP address of the host machine)
    (from http://www.happyassassin.net/2007/02/06 … rtualbox/)
I got brctl from the package "bridge-utils,"
    and tunctl from "uml_utilities."
these steps almost work, except I can't use dhclient on br0, and on
the host machine eth0 loses its address.
Can someone give me some hints about how do accomplish this in an arch
way, making use of /etc/conf.d/bridges, and rc.conf, or whatever?  thanks.

Hi kant1. First I want to thank you for taking the time to respond and second I apologize for not posting earlier. I have been away from my computer these 2 days.
    Now,  to answer your questions:
Have you tried running "top" and then running openoffice/xine?  Maybe they are using some other program that is getting hung up on the network change?
    I don't see anything strange.
Also, did you try rebooting after making these changes?
    Yes, more than once
Are you using the same address for the bridge as you are for your regular connection?  Or using dhcp for both?  (The link I posted uses dhcp, but you may need to specify the address if that's what you do for your regular connection)
Does "ifconfig" show that eth0 (or whatever your regular ethernet connection is) does not have an ip address, but br0 does?  Does "brctl show" show that br0 has eth0 attached as an interface?
Here is my ifconfig output. I believe this is how it should be
    $ ifconfig

I don't know if it has any relevance but I was trying to see what is happening with wireshark. When I try to run soffice I see DNS queries to my ISP about arch.localdomain. These queries have naturally response "not found". arch is my host name.
UPDATE: After posting this i added this line in /etc/hosts.
    127.0.0.1 arch.localdomain arch
and now openoffice works again .
But now I have 2 problems less significant
    1. Still xine doesn't work. I see a query for eth0.localdomain
    2. If I use the "Alt+F2" box in KDE and type i.e. calc it will still query my ISP for calc.localdomain.

Error occurs during installation of glibc-common package.
I try it with VMware ESXi , no problem.
Who have the same error? where found a solution ?
    Pierre

    I workaround the problem .
upgrade in VirtualBox 4.0.2 last version. same pb
configure memory less than 1GB OK
shutdown , increase the memory to 1.7 GB startup OK

  • [Solved] problem with virtualbox-iso-additions for virtualbox v. 4.2

VirtualBox 4.2 was released recently and one of the features mentioned is support for Mac OSX. However, having installed it (an Arch virtualbox 4.2 host, and an osx guest), I found that I couldn't install guest additions via the devices menu on my osx guest. Whereupon I examined the file corresponding to virtualbox-iso-additions (/usr/lib/virtualbox/additions/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso) and found that in fact there were no scripts or drivers for osx (darwin) like there are for windows and linux. Is it possible that the Arch release of this file has not been updated properly or am I missing anything else?
Update: I downloaded the current iso (VBoxGuestAdditions_4.2.0.iso) from http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.2.0/ and found that that too has no files that appear linked to osx or darwin. That rules out an Arch packaging issue and I'll need to pursue things at virtualbox.org itself.

I think I've figured it out, finally. It seems v. 4.2 introduces virtualbox on a mac osx host. osx guests are apparently not officially supported with guest additions. I had assumed that host support already existed, and that the new stuff in v. 4.2 was for guests.

  • ORA-12154 Oracle Client Error with VirtualBox

This is rather lengthy and I am not sure this is the right forum for this question but it does involve the Oracle Client.
My development environment consists of a single workstation that is not connected to a network. The OS for the database is Linux CentOS (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 or 4). The database seems to run fine from the Linux OS - OEM and SQLPlus run as well as all the other utilities (lsnrctl, etc.).
The database front-end has to be Access 2003. This is requiring that I run Windows from VirtualBox so I can do the FE database development.
In addition to this when I try to create a system (or any other) DSN, I get the following behaviors.
    - Start up the "Microsoft ODBC Administrator"
    - Select the "System DSN" tab
    - Click "Add..."
    - Select driver: "Oracle in OraClieht11g_home1"
    - Enter the following data in the following fields
    Data Source Name: "orcl_hr"
    TNS Service Name: "orcl"
    - Click the "Test Connection" button
This initiates a wait of about 1 minute
    - In the "Oracle ODBC Driver Connect" dialog, enter the following data in the fields
    Service Name: "orcl"
    User Name: "hr"
    Password: <the hr password>
This initiates another wait of about 1 minute after which I get an error dialog with the following message:
    Unable to connect
    SQLState=08004
[oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
On the Windows side the ORACLE_SID is defined as "orcl"
On the Linux (db server) side, the following files have the listed contents:
    Listener.ora
    LISTENER =
      (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
        (DESCRIPTION =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = local.net)(PROT = 1521))
      )sqlnet.ora
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)tnsnames.ora
    ORCL =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = local.net)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVER = DEDICATED)
          (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)
)Another data point: I notice that the client software has a SqlPlus application. When I try to log on to the database through this app I get the error: ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error.
Is there a VirtualBox problem? Can it be fixed?
Edited by: DBelt on Jun 29, 2009 10:19 AM

The OracleClient install does not create either of the sqlnet.ora or tnsnames.ora files. These are created in the ORACLE_HOME/network/admin direcory of the host machine, however -- as well as the listener.ora file.
One question I have before we procede much further is what is the "Instant Client" anyway? As I said earlier, I am not even sure this is the proper forum for my question since it involves the OracleClient software -- I know what the OracleClient is but not the "Instant Client".
That said, I am able to telnet port 1521 from the host if I uset the literal IP address only (using <local.net> does not work). I am completely unable to ping the host at all from VirtualBox (I am operating in NAT mode and this seems to be a documented "feature" of VBox).
The "sqlplus user/pwd@(DESCRIPTION=...)" comment does not work. I have tried several iterations: 1) as provided above with the double-quotes resulting in a display of the proper syntax for invoking sqlplus, 2) without the quotes, and 3) replacing the double-quotes with parentheses. The outcome of experiments 2) and 3) is a syntax error occurring at "(" for the former or at user/pwd for the latter. (I am substituting proper values for the user, pwd, and local.net placeholders.)
I am starting to wonder if my problem may lie in trying to run the client from VirtualBox in NAT mode.
Another question has to do with the ODBC Administrator -- Where does it get its list of "TNS Service Names"?

  • Developing Forms with VirtualBox

    Hello everybody.
I have been developing (Forms 10G & Reports 10G & sqldeveloper) till today in Linux RedHat 4 ES.
Now Im in Window7, I have installed VirtualBox to install Linux & Forms & Reports and also de Database all 10G.
Question What Linux I must to install to can work with those tools? I have choice Oracle Linux 6 but I dont know if this is a good choice.
    Thanks in advanced & regards.

Hi, Oracle Linux 6 is not yet certified with database 10g or 11g.
You can install on it with some pre-requisites (a good tutorial can be found at oracle-base.com [url http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR2InstallationOnOracleLinux6.php]Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) Installation On Oracle Linux 6
and also you can install a CentOS linux system (http://www.centos.org/] as this is a community-supported, free operating system based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

  • Aero on Windows 7 with VirtualBox

Hello! I have a 13 inch MacBook Air, 128GB (The 2011 model). I need some apps from Windows so I decide to install it with VirualBox, because it was free!
Now I use Windows 7 Ultimate (32x) on my mac and it is working good, but the Aero isn't working at all!
    What to do?

I don't thing Aero will be supported on the integrated graphics chipset in the Air, but you can try asking in the VirtualBox forum and see if someone there knows of a way to get it working:

  • Problems with Virtualbox

    Hey Guys.
I'm runned into a problem with my Virtualbox installation about the network setup.
    Followed the guide http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VirtualBox#Usin
But each time I'm starting my Virtualbox - I'm getting the this error:
Failed to initialize Host Interface Networking.
    VBox status code: -3100 (VERR_HOSTIF_INIT_FAILED).
    Result Code:

How can I make bridged network to work here - and can someone tell me the error:
    /etc/conf.d/bridges:
    bridge_br0="eth0 wlan0"
    BRIDGE_INTERFACES=(br0)
    Lines from rc.conf:

    ppp0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth0 wlan0 br0 ppp0)
/etc/vbox/interfaces ( needed to make that file manually)
    vbox0 pbj br0
I've installed bridge-utils and the obnly error i'm getting is this - each time I set the network settings in the virtualbox guest machine settings to host interface???
What Am I doing wrong. - since I only have these options from the menu
    Not connected.
    NAT

    sudo dhclient br0
    sudo chmod 0666 /dev/net/tun
    sudo tunctl -t tap0 -u *username*
    sudo ifconfig tap0 up
    sudo brctl addif br0 tap0
