Very new....dumb question...how to?

I know this is dumb, but I thought I had this right, and it's not working.....I'm trying to center the applet on my web page, and I guess I have the syntax wrong. Could someone tell me how to fix this??? Thanks.
HTML code:
<APPLET CODE="WyleeClock.class" WIDTH=58 HEIGHT=20 ALIGN=middle>
<param name=background value="black">
<param name=foreground value="magenta">
</APPLET>

That's deprecated HTML. You should rather use
<div align=center><applet ...>...</applet></div>,
or (even better) CSS:
<div style="text-align: center;"><applet ...>...</applet></div>

  • Dumb question: how to protect my info before taking my MB in for service??

Ok, so I know this is probably a really basic question but I just don't know how to do this. I need to take my MB in for repair because the microphone is wonky but before I do that I want to make sure that certain folders or files (ex. bank statements etc.) are protected from prying eyes. I've never had to take in any of my Macs for repair so I've never had to deal with this issue before. I tried looking under help but I couldn't really find what I was looking for.
I don't have any separate users set up as I'm the only one to use the MB. The only password I have set up is the admin password. I tried locking the folder(s)in question but as I am the only user on the MB, it's no problem to unlock the folder once you know the admin password and I assume when I take it in for service that I need to provide the admin password, right?
Can someone please walk me through the steps to best protect my personal information?
    Thanks!

Backup your sensitive data to an external drive then delete it from the computer's hard drive. After you get the computer repaired you can restore your data from the backup.
Or, create an encrypted disc image using a different password. Store your sensitive data in the disc image and delete the copies on the hard drive. Put the encrypted disc image on an external hard drive or if it isn't too large burn it to a DVD.
Or, get third-party encrypting software that will let you encrypt a file or folder on your hard drive or store the data in a protected datafile - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • New User Question - How to Sync Sent Messages from Bold 9700

I am running BlackBerry Desktop Manager 5.0.1.37 and the 'Reconcile Email Messages' option is disabled and 'Email' is not mentioned in 'Configure Sync'. I have a BlackBerry non-enterprise data plan with my carrier. My computer is running XP PRO sp3 and Office 2007 is installed My question is how do I sync the sent messages from my Bold 9700 back into Outlook 2007? Thank you in advance.

An alternative (for me) would be to *always and automatically* send a bcc to a specifc address of all my sent messages.
I cannot locate this option in the documentation.
    Does it exist?.
Yes, in your BIS account setup for that email address. Edit the setup and you will see at the bottom a checkbox to automatically BCC messages.
Then, on your Outlook, set a filter for your incoming messages from yourself to be re-directed to your sent folder.

  • Dumb question- how do I get to the command line without X running?

    Hi,
As per the title please... I need to rerun Xorg -configure, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to shut down X and get to a command line
    Thanks

    Bes wrote:
Ctl alt and backspace just takes me out to the login screen.. from there I can't get to the terminal without X running.
Ctrl Alt F5 gets me to the command line, but I can't kill the X server
    Thanks though
so with ctrl+alt+f5 you're at the console
log in if you need to, then
    ps ax | grep gdm
    4441 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/gdm-binary
    4442 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/gdm-binary
    4444 tty7 SLs+ 3:38 /usr/bin/Xorg :0 -audit 0 -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth
    6633 pts/0 S+ 0:00 grep gdm
    kill 4444
the above example assumes gdm is your login manager so substitute whatever you're using, and you can kill the other instances of gdm (in my example processes 4441 and 4442 but don't waste your time on the grep process 6633
    now redo your X config
(actually you could run this from a terminal from within X and it should have the same effect of dropping you back to console

No "what if."   No one here knows exactly what you really want to do legally or illegally.  Suggest that you re-read Apple's TOU which you agreed to.
You would do better by doing a Google search for exactly what you want to do & the instructions to do so.  "Google is your friend."

  • New User Question:  How do I find ALL of my setting for my layout once I'm working on it?

I'd like to get screen captures of my settings for each project I do so that I have them for refference.
    Thank you!!!

OK, I think you're basically on the right track, but I think converting your files to templates might be more useful than printouts. Templates contain the master pages (which is where margins and columns are typically changed from the defaults set during initial Document Setup (or they may not be changed from those defaults at all), all the styles defined for the project, and all the color swatches that have been defined, so you don't need to reinvent the wheel, only choose from among the available selections. They can also have page elements (headers and footers, page numbers, placeholder frames for standard layouts, etc.) predefined or in place.
You can make any file into a template just by saving as one (File > Save As... and choose Template from the file type dropdown), or by changing the file extension to .indt. The only functional difference between a document file and a template file is that when opened "normally" documents open as original, so you are editing the actual document, and templates open as an untitled copy, so you are editing the copy and won't accidentally change the template. You can delete essentially all the content (other than objects on a master page) from any file and save as a template and have everything you need to make a new file using the same parameters.
There are scripts available to tell you what styles are defined in a document (you can google for InDesign Style Reporter script, I think), and there may be others that will give you other parameters. There may be something like that in the Blatner Tools plugin, too. If you want one comprehensive script you may need to pay someone to custom write it for you, but it would be worth a trip to the scripting forum (InDesign Scripting) to see what is already written that might help you if you want reports.

  • Dumb question:  How do I assign a ringtone?

I've chosen one main ringtone, and before I updated and restored my phone I had another ringtone assigned to my boyfriend, but I don't remember how I did that. How's it done?

Got it. I was choosing his name from favorites, when I needed to choose it from "contacts." Nevermind.

  • New User Question:  How do I enable comments in Reader when this option is greyed out on my menu?

I cannot figure out what I am missing here.  I have a PDF Portfolio completed and now want to E-Mail for Review.  But this option is greyed out on my Comment Menu dropdown list.  What to do?  Thanks!

    Two Places to Check
In iChat in the Video menu (May say Audio) to the right of the Buddies one there is Camera Enabled. It should show a tick next to it.
Next in the View Menu the Show Video Status item also needs a tick.
If those two items are ticked then go to the Apple icon top left > About this Mac > More Info button to open the System Profiler.
Use the reveal Triangles and go to Hardware > USB and see if the camera is listed.

  • Dumb question- how to install program?

i've had this computer for awhile and never really had to do it. I think I've done it wrong a few time actually. It's a .dmg file, and when I click on it it opens a folder with a link to the program, some read me files, plug ins, accessories folder. I seem to recall when I first got the computer them telling me that I had to drag something into the applications folder and then delete the rest?

There are two standard procedures for installing software on the Mac:
    1. drag the application icon from wherever it is (say, in the virtual disk that appears when you clikc ona .dmg file) to /Applications
    or
    2. If the file is a package/installer (looks like a box with stuff in it), double-click on the file and follow the prompts.

Truly dumb question. How do I get PS to actually complete a command, eg straighten an horizon, and finalise the change. Even doing a "save as" with a new file name and reloading brings the image back, straightened, but with the skewed back ground frame still there. Is there a "apply change" or similiar command that I simply cannot see.

brings the image back, straightened, but with the skewed back ground frame
PSE did what you told it to do. Choose the Straighten and crop edges or fill edges options when you use the straighten tool if you want it to do more than just straighten the contents of the image. Many people prefer the plain straighten because they'd rather crop themselves than let PSE do it.

If both computers were configured identically, then they would both lose the same amount of battery life with respect to the same starting configuration - comparing apple to apples. I don't know how much the added RAM, etc. would reduce battery life, but it would be less for both models.
Battery life is a tricky subject because most mfgr.s like to suggest as long a life as possible, but often do so under a set of conditions that are not common to most users. Apple is no different. Their computers do have good battery life, however. But not likely as long as what is in the ads for the typical user.

  • I am very new to Macs and iPhoto so this may be an idiot's question, but I have just created my first photo book and want to buy it, but the "buy book" button is not highlighted and when I click it nothing happens. Is there some step I am missing? Thanks!

Is there some step I am missing or some connection I need? I am on the internet. Thanks!

I have now recently downloaded 10.0.2 which is confusing in itself, as, as far as I can ascertain that is actually version 11, but I'm not even sure about that.
Version 10.0.2 is the newest version and the successor to GarageBand '11 (version 6.0.5).
The '11 is referring to the iLife '11 suit of multimedia application - the older GarageBand was a part of this bundle.
Have a look at Edgar's graphical enhanced manuals, the explain very detailed how things work and why. You can buy them as iBooks from the iBook store or directly from the page:

  • Might be a dumb question, but I am moving from 1st gen to iPadair; on Safari, 1st gen to delete apps/sites just visited, you could double tap home key and apps would appear on bottom and one could delete from there. How does it work on ipadair?

This may be a dumb question, but nonetheless, here goes:
I just moved from 1st gen ipad to new ipad-air. Great and happy! But, one thing I can't figure out how to do is to delete the pages/sites/apps that I have just used? For example, on the 1st gen. you could double-tap home button and past actions would come up on bottom of screen. I could then delete them one by one, to keep things cleaned up. Am I missing something here? Does it keep a log irregardless? Not the same as deleting history - at least didnt' work for me.

Close apps and not delete apps.
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
    3. The app will fly off the screen

  • A Dumb Question From A New CS3 User

I am in the process of building a new site using CS3. This is
my first experience with this product and I have what I am sure is
a remarkably dumb question. I have an image (a banner ad) centered
on one of the pages and would like to insert a table to the left of
the image without the image moving (i.e. down) from it's current
location. How can this be done?
    Thanks!

    Thanks!
    That worked perfectly.

An easy way is to make your table with two cells, then put
    the banner in the
right cell - if you need more subdivison of the left cell,
    you can put a
    table in it.

I have forgotten my answers to my security questions, how do i setup new security questions and answers?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Start here (change country if necessary) and navigate to 'Password and Security', reset your security questions using the link provided, you will receive an email to your rescue address, use the link in the email and reset your security questions.
If that doesn't help, you don't receive a reset email or you don't have a rescue address, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.
