Very specific datagrid column with's, Lazy Way

I have a datagrid where I want the width of certain columns
to automatically be set to the width of the header text + 6 pixels.
Is this possible

If you hide the header, then the space it occupies will still
be there, so
the rows will line up. Try using a headerRenderer wit one
state that shows
the header text and one state that shows nothing.

Datagrid Column with complex itemRenderer / itemEditor

I have a datagrid with a custom component used as an itemRenderer / editor. The component has two view states (default is simply the text of my data and the second state contains my editor fields). I have is set up so that when an individual double-clicks on the cell of my datagrid the renderer changes view states to the editor view. This view contains a dateSelector component and two numeric stepper components that reflect a date (dateSelector) and the hour and minute in the two steppers. The problem I have is that I'm trying to control the view state based on when the user clicks outside of the editor. When the user is done editing the applicable field(s), I want the viewstate to change back to simply the text-view state and remove the editors.
I had this working except that whenever a user changed focus from say the dateSelector to one of the numeric steppers the view state changed prematurely. The editor view should stay in view until the datagrid cell loses focus. Any ideas???

thanks for the response. I've looked at your example with the two text fields and can't seem to find a way to implement the same idea in my project. When the DG loads I don't want the editable fields to be displayed. I just want the user to see the text values. When the user double-clicks, I want the renderer to change to an editor and allow the user to make the necessary changes. I'm trying to switch view states within the renderer/editor to make this happen but can't seem to get the editor to switch back to a renderer when the cell in the DG loses focus. That's when I would like the switch to occur and not before. What happens now is that whenever one of the editable components loses focus the editor automatically switches back to a renderer and doesn't allow the user to navigate to any of the other editable components without double-clicking again. My editor uses a date selector and two numeric steppers. Any ideas? I'm still learing Flex and AS 3 so any help is greatly appreciated!! BTW... great blog.

If you mean change the content of other fields in the same row then yes.
If there is a viewmodel per row you could act in the setter of the property of that which the combo is bound to. Set those properties in the viewmodel and if it implements inotifypropertychanged then they would change in the view.

These are both bound to the same property though.
You combo is in the datacontext the row is in.
That Name property is the same as the Name property the other column would be in.
Select combo > Name
Enter in ParamName > Name
Both the same property.
Making it a property of something else would be very strange - which row is pointing at what.

Changing dataGrid column width with actionScript

Having a strange change when trying to change any dataGrid column width with this code:
dataGrid.columns[ 5 ].width = 200;
It do changes the width of column number 6 to 200, but strangely it's also changes the width of the preceding columns (0-4). Every preceding column automatically increases a little bit than its' existing width without having me any idea.
Any idea anyone have!

I tried the suggested procedures. Took out cartridges, replaced them in proper order. Shut off machine. Unplugged machine for more than 10 minutes.
After plugging in machine & turning on, the same error message appeared. It is constant and the machine will not perform in any way including for scanning.
The suggested procedure did not eliminate the error. Your message suggested I go through the "contact us" screen but I've done that twice already.
Not willing to play that dumb game again.

Compare column to another column with a specific value?

What i need to do is compare a column that holds the SiteNames of holidays to another column with the DifficultyDescription of holidays.
I want to show that sites that are not included in boldANY*bold* holiday with an “easy” or “moderate” rating.
Some of my SiteNames have holidays with different difficulty ratings....
e.g Yellowstone National Park(SiteName) - H2 - Moderate(DifficultyDescrip)
Yellowstone National Park(SiteName - H3 - Strenuous(DifficultyDescrip)
In this example i would want Yellowstone not to be in the results of my query as one of its results is 'moderate'.

Move Table Column with AppleScript in Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word has a flaw (in my opinion) with tables in that it aligns the left and right text with the margins rather than aligning the table columns with the margins. This results in sloppy tables, because the left and right borderlines lie outside the margins.
I would like to fix the word tables by
calculating the left cell padding and right cell padding in points and setting them to variables {left_pad,right_pad} respectively
move left column by left_pad to the right
move right column by right_pad to the left
The script I was working on does not work, but I will post it to show my thought process as I hone in on my solution.

How to order an entire Report by a column with in a group...

Okay, I have a Group Above report, and I want to order the groupings by a column within the group. I am using a lexical parameter in place of the entire ORDER BY statement in the query, giving the user the capability to sort the report by any specific column, at runtime.
So, basically, this parameter allows for the ORDER BY to be dynamic; however, in the Data Model, I am required to designate at least one hard-coded break column, which overrides whatever column is designated by the user at runtime.
Any ideas how I can get around this?

If you want just i single hard coded column in a group
then i think you can create summary column with counting
so you can say say a column that gives you just Serial no.
and rest of the thing as it is.
in this way you got your hard column and also Order by facility
that you want.

For some reason on an update the CreatedAt field is created and given a value of null. So of course on an insert/update it will error because CreatedAt is an Identity field.
I've tried to configure the modelBuilder in my context to tell it that CreatedAt is an identity field, but that still doesn't work.

So far the only way to fix this is by commenting out my Seed data, but it's not a fix. I've seen other solutions where you can force it to not serialize certain fields, but I don't know if those solutions apply.

So I think this occurs because you might have created the database (Code-first) with POCOs that didn't have the CreatedAt field in them. I think that's what I did and the easiest way to fix it for me was to delete my database and re-create it with my POCOs
inheriting from Entity Data from the very beginning. We were still in development so it worked out for us but I know some people might not be able to do that. Here's what my table looks like after it was created correctly:

Would really need to see the code to see the extent of the damage Photoshop html has caused. This is a typical problem when exporting html from Photoshop OR trying to assemble the slices into one gigantic table where the cells have been split and merged numerous times which causes distortion.
The idea, looking at your page, would be to insert a simple 3 column x 1 row table into Dreamweaver then insert the components that make up your page into their realtive columns. Using this simple construction method will ensure that all the page elements remain seperate and cannot interact with other element in different cells, which is what is NOT happening in your construction at the moment.

Cancel edition in a Datagrid Column

What i´m wishing to do is very simple, i just want to cancel an edition in a DataGrid column,
Loosing focus of the textbox confirms the edition, i wanted to place 2 buttons above the edition text box, cancel and confirm, but it seems to be impossible...
any idea?

Unsort a DataGrid Column

short version:
Is there a clever way to "un-sort" a datagrid column so the
Column and Grid will go back to the original pre-sorted state?--not
just remove the ability to sort.
long-winded background:
I'm using a ComboBox to toggle between report views (which
are displayed in a DataGrid). I have 2 views: the All View and the
Grouped View. The trouble I'm having is that once a column in my
DataGrid gets sorted by a User (which is desirable) in the All
View, then when the User toggles to the Grouped View the sort is
still in place for the column (not desirable). Upon toggle (via
ComboBox change event), I first clear out the DataProvider of all
data, then I'm setting the "sortable" property of the individual
columns and the DataGrid to be 'false' and then I'm repopulating
the DataProvider with fresh data. The result is that the ability to
sort the datagrid is indeed taken away from the User, but the new
data still appears sorted by the column.

ListCollectionView(dataGrid.dataProvider).refresh();
